Mawlid an-Nabi Celebration in London

Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

10 November 2018 Feltham, London, UK

Centre for Spirituality and Cultural Advancement (CSCA)

[With guests Shaykh `Ali ibn as-Sayyid Ibn al-Rahman al-Hashemi, and Shaykh Zymer Salihi of St. Ann's Priory/Dergah, London.]

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Bi munasabat Mawlid an-Nabi (s) nahtafil bi Mawlid inshaa-Allah wa ‘l-jumu`ati 'l-qaadima. On the occasion of the birth of the Prophet (s) we will celebrate inshaa-Allah and on the upcoming Jumu`ah. Inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) will open for those who recite Surat Al-Fatihah. [Recites from Opening of Mawlid al-Diba'i.] “Muhammad Khayr al-bariyyaat” means no one other than Prophet (s) can claim to be someone, nor can anyone claim to make salawaat on himself.

Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him with a worthy salutation! (Surat al-'Ahzaab, 33:56)

Look at Allah’s (swt) greatness. What He (swt) said is out of respect to His Beloved.

“Allah, The Most Generous, causes this gathering to be showered with goodness, happiness, light and blessing, and He takes care of us for the sake of the Best of Creation!” (Mawlid al-Diba'i)

He is showing humbleness to the Prophet (s) as much as He can for the Prophet (s) to reach Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa: He gave him permission, there was no obstacle for the Prophet (s) to see His Lord.

According to Imam as-Sha`rawi, the Prophet (s) directed himself to see His Lord, and he said, “He saw His Lord with the eyes of his head.” It means the Prophet (s) saw Allah with eyes that we don't have in dunya, only in Akhirah. But the Prophet (s) has been loved and given the permission to see Allah (swt) more than anything else and that is why according to people who understand Haqiqah say as I said: it is a ni`mah that the Prophet (s) can look and see His Lord in whatever means He wants.

We are following the Beloved of the Merciful and asking that, for his sake, Allah opens to us whatever Allah opened to him, and that He gives us all kinds of things that he asked, you asked, I asked for in dunya. Other than that, he is responsible to bring his Ummah to the Maqaam of ‘Kun fayakoon’ or Maqaam Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa.

He seeks for His servants to praise and exalt His Prophet (s) all through his love and love of Awliya, and that Allah will give support and victory to the mu’mineen. That is the condition the Prophet (s) gave: to see whatever condition the Muslims are in, and that Allah gives them a long life in service of The Merciful.

Allahumma salli `ala Sayyidina Muhammad wa `ala aali Sayyidina Muhammad (s). Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

[Ali Elsayed reads English Mawlid. Shaykh Sahib recites Du`a al-Khatm.]

Guest, Shaykh `Ali ibn as-Sayyid ibn `Abd al-Rahman al-Hashemi of Abu Dhabi:

Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. As-salaam `alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh Alhamdulillah.

We ask Allah to give Mawlana health and a long life and may Allah let us rejoice always by seeing him. All praise is to Allah who perfects the good deeds and Allah's praise and blessings on the Sayyidina Muhammad (s) the Master of all created things and on his Family and Companions and his followers in goodness up the Judgment Day. I am very pleased with this blessed gathering and this wonderful sitting as this is the Ummah of Islam where we celebrate the Mawlid of the Prophet (s), and in our countries we also celebrate this holy day.

The Prophet (s) was mercy gifted to the world, as he himself said, "Verily, I am the Gifted Mercy" to rocks, to trees, to Mankind. He has taught us mercy and, therefore, we are an Ummah of mercy, and an Ummah of forgiveness, and an Ummah of softness, and an Ummah of love. Addressing His Holy Prophet (s), Allah (swt) said:

فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جِئْنَا مِن كُلِّ أمَّةٍ بِشَهِيدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَى هَـؤُلاء شَهِيدًا

How will it be when We bring each nation with its witnesses and we bring you, yaa Muhammad, as the witness on all of them? (Surat an-Nisa, 4:41)

So we are the Witnessing Ummah, which corrects the errors of prior nations and builds and does not destroy. Therefore, we find you in this good nation and in this blessed gathering.

You are all working in this masjid put by Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (may Allah grant him mercy) to make this a blessed event in this month. Some people are cut off from the blessing of such kind of gatherings; they are those as mentioned in the Hadith atadroona man al-mahroom, "Do you know who the deprived one is?" They said, "Allah and His Prophet know best." He said, “Those who, when my name is mentioned in their presence and they don't praise me.” The praise of the Prophet (s) is with the Presence of Allah and His Action. Because all other worship is by yourself, such as prayer and fasting and hajj, with the exception of the prayers on the Prophet (s) which is done "with Allah" for Allah is the One who is praying on His Prophet (s):

إنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ياأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him with a worthy salutation! (Surat al-'Ahzaab, 33:56)

All of this celebration, with blessed recitation and with playing the daff are all signs of your love to Rasoolullah (s). So good tidings to the one who loves the Prophet (s), for a man came to the Prophet (s) and said, "I don't have much of prayers and fasting but I do love you," and the Prophet (s) said, "You will be with the one you love." We will in-sha-Allah be with the Prophet (s), we will be under the great intercession of the Prophet (s). On the Day of Judgment all people, even the great prophets other than Rasoolullah (s), will be saying, “Myself, myself,” but the Prophet (s) will be saying, “My Ummah, my Ummah.” [Du`a.]

I will not go long in my words and I thank the esteemed shaykh for giving us this chance to speak. May Allah bring us together always on goodness and in celebrating the birth of the Prophet (s). We ask Allah to grant us health and …may Allah grant us perfect health. O Allah correct our religion which is what our afterlife is built on and correct our worldly life in which we are living. And recite Fatihah for our Prophet (s)

Shaykh Hisham Kabbani: We thank you for your visit to us and inshaa-Allah those who are here.

Shaykh `Ali ibn as-Sayyid ibn `Abd al-Rahman al-Hashemi: Inshaa-Allah your du`a is accepted.

Shaykh Hisham Kabbani: We are very grateful that His Eminence is here among us. Many times I said I will go to the Emirates to do dhikr there. They told me, “Don't go,” but I went and tried to establish a zawiya for Naqshbandis there, and it is working. From there we went to India; you were with us, do you recall?

Shaykh `Ali ibn as-Sayyid ibn `Abd al-Rahman al-Hashemi:

The ultimate path is Islam, as Allah (swt) said:

وَمَن يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الإِسْلاَمِ دِينًا فَلَن يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ

For, if one goes in search of a religion other than self-surrender unto God, it will never be accepted from him, (Surat Aali-`Imran, 3:85)

Seeing you and visiting you has been the most immense opportunity for me since I came to London, and even to the UK, to meet with such an esteemed person as Sayyidina ash-Shaykh. On Judgment Day a person will be asked, "Are you a scholar; did you meet with a scholar; did you at least look at the face of a scholar?" The face before us is such a great blessing. Alhamdulillah we were able to meet such a great scholar and to see this brilliant light in front of us, may Allah grant us to be on this pure path (tareeq as-saniyya) as we ask always ihdina 's-siraat al-mustaqeem, guide us to the Straight Path.
