Kaf Ha Ya `Ayn Sad

Shaykh Nour Mohamad Kabbani

2 March 2024 Vienna, Virginia, USA

From Mawlana Shaykh Nazim's Personal Notes

A`oodhu billahi ‘s Sami` al-`Aleem min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

May Allah (swt) make us always at the feet of Awliyaullah and allow us to have from their qurbiyya, closeness to Rasoolullah (s). I just saw that [calligraphy], Kaf Ha Ya `Ayn Sad. Awliyaullah have said from all of the meanings of Kaf Ha Ya `Ayn Sad is that kaafin li khalqihi. Kaf is a noun “He (swt) is enough for His khalq.” Haadin li `ibaadi, “He is guiding His servants.”

It is said that the letters that are written at the beginning of the chapters of the Qur’an, and Allah (swt) knows best, but to Awliyaullah they have explained that it is the beginning of some of His Names. Kaafin li khalqihi, “He is enough for His Creation.” Do you think Allah (swt) is enough for His Creation or not? Everything in Creation that is breathing and has a heart that’s beating is by the Order of Allah (swt). Everything in Creation that is walking, moving or flying is by Allah’s (swt) Grace. It is not from their own power or their own action.

You should know that, O Muslim, O mu`min, that without Allah's (swt) Order, not even a leaf can move. Do you think a leaf can move on its own without Allah's (swt) Order or Permission? He is Kaafin, enough for His Creation. Haadin li `ibaadihi, guiding His servants. He is leading His servants. Kaf Ha Ya. Ya. That’s why you need Awliyaullah. Ya, as Awliyaullah have said, yadullah, Allah’s Hand. Yadullahi fawqa aydihim.

Have you ever heard of that ayah in Surah al-Fath? The ayah of bay`a.

Lo! Those who swear allegiance to you (O Muhammad) swear allegiance only to Allah. The Hand of Allah is above their hands, so whosoever breaks his oath breaks it only to his own soul's harm, while whoever keeps his covenant with Allah, on him will He bestow immense reward. (Suratu’ l-Fath, 48:10)

The ones giving bay`a to you are giving bay`a to Allah (swt). Yadullah, “the Hand of Allah (swt).” It means the Qudra, the Power and Might. Allah (swt) doesn’t have a physical hand with five fingers like us. Don’t go that way. His Power, His Might, His Strength is above their hands.

He is enough for you. He guides you and His Hand is above their hands, above the hand of Rasoolullah (s), above the hands of Awliyaullah, above the hands of Sahaaba al-kiraam, above the hands of Ahlu ’l-Bayt, Tabi`een, Tabi` tabi`een and yours, if you have agreed to give bay`a to Rasoolullah (s). We did not reach his physical time but that bay`a continues to Rasoolullah’s (s) way.

Ya is for yad, hand, Yadullah, the Hand of Allah (swt). When He guides you to a Waliyullah and you give your hand, you have completed half.

`Ayn is `aleemun bi bariyatihi. He knows His bariyaa, what He has spread on Earth, planets, in the skies and the universes. Bara`a. Dara`a. It is all part of the same kind of meaning that He has spread His Creation all over His created lands.

He knows you. He knows what you are about. He knows where you started. He knows where you will end, doesn’t He? He has to. Otherwise how is He `Aleem? He knows where you are going to end and He knows what you have promised Him. He knows what you are doing. He knows what you are up to. He knows everything. `Aleemun bi bariyatihi. He knows His bariya that He has spread.

Saad. Saadiqu ‘l-w`ad, “He keeps His Word.” Sadaqah, Saadiq. wa man asdaqu min Allahi hadeetha, “Who keeps his word more than Allah (swt)?” In the Holy Qur’an, Allah (swt) talks about Himself that He is Saadiq, yasduq, wa man asdaqu min Allahi hadeetha.

He keeps His Promise. If you want Him, He will guide you to His Way. He will be with you by His Power, pushing you through. He knows where your station is that He has assigned to you and He will keep His Word. He will get you there. That is His Rahmah. That is by dhikru Rahmati Rabbika. That is the Mercy of Rahmanu ‘r-Raheem. That is the Mercy of, “Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.” When He created you, He gave you Rahmah. With that Rahmah, you’re going to reach. He is enough for you from the beginning all the way to the end because He keeps His Word and He is going to put you in the Highest Stations that you can reach.

That’s why Anbiyaullah have come. Why did prophets come to khalq, to people? To tell them that Allah (swt) has promised you something great. He keeps His promise. He doesn’t promise and lie. Mashaa-Allah, this is the center of promises and broken promises, DC. No, the master shouldn’t lie. If he has the power, why should he lie? Allah (swt) says, “I am enough for you. I will guide you. My Power is with you. I know you and I keep My Word.”

Anbiyaullah have come to tell you, “Follow Him. Follow His Way. Follow Qur’anu ‘l-Kareem. Follow what He has said. Follow His Rules, His Orders, what He forbids.” It’s all for you. There is a holy verse. Asta`eedhu billah.

For We assuredly sent amongst every People an apostle, (with the Command), "Serve Allah, and eschew Evil": of the People were some whom Allah guided, and some on whom error became inevitably (established). So travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who denied (the Truth). (Suratu ’n-Nahl, 16:36)

“We have sent to every nation, to every creation, to every human being, a rasool.” The first rasool was Sayyidina Adam (a) until the last one, Sayyidina Muhammad (s). All of them have come with the same message, na`badullah, “Follow the way of Allah (swt).” W’ajtani’bu ‘t-taghoot, “Don’t follow the way of desires.”

Anbiyaullah have come to teach us how to obey Allah (swt) or worship Allah (swt) without anything attached to that worship. They have come to show us how to leave other than Allah (swt). What’s in your heart that you like to do? Just look at the garage. What do you have in your garage? What are your toys? Is the life of this world is toys and games and fun? No. If you’re busy with that then you are following your desires. Anbiyaullah have come to say, w’ajtani’boo ‘t-taghoot. Taghoot is everything that takes you away from Allah (swt). It can be anything. Tughyaan is to go over the limit--to follow the request of other than the Lord of Heavens.

You have to direct yourself totally to `ibaadatullah. Even if you eat, it is `ibaadah because Allah (swt) says in Holy Qur’an, kulloo w ’ashraboo, “Eat and drink.” If you say, “Yaa Rabbee! I’m eating. I’m following Your Order,” that is written as worship. If you say, “Yaa Rabbee! I’m drinking. I’m following Your Order,” that is worship for you.

وَٱبْتَغُوا۟ مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ

W’abtaghoo maa katab Allahu lakum.

So approach them now, and seek what God has ordained for you. (Surat al-Baqara, 2:187)

If you approach your spouse, that is also written as worship for you. If you say, “Yaa Rabbee, this is as You have ordered.” Anything that you do physically if your intention is, “Yaa Rabbee, this is for You,” it is not considered pleasure or from dunya. It is considered following the Order of Allah (swt), so it is `ibaadah.

Your way, O mu`min, is 24 hours `ibaadah. Even if you say, “Yaa Rabbee, I’m sleeping so I can get strength to wake up for Tahajjud, to rest my body to get power so I can wake up for Your worship,” that sleep is also considered worship. Everything that you can make or intend to do for Allah (swt) is considered worship.

Leave your desires and follow the way of Allah (swt) completely. “Yaa Rabbee, I’m going out of my house to secure rizq for my children.” That is `ibaadah because Allah (swt) told you,

وَعَلَى ٱلْمَوْلُودِ لَهُۥ رِزْقُهُنَّ وَكِسْوَتُهُنَّ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ

wa `ala ’l-mawloodi lahu rizquhunna wa kiswatuhunna bi ’l-ma’roof.

Upon the father is the mothers' provision and their clothing according to what is acceptable. (Suratu ’l-Baqara, 2:233)

He has to feed, shelter, cloth the baby and the mother. It is an order in the Qur’an. Ma’roof though, through halaal, not that you go rob a bank. You can’t rob a bank anymore. It’s all numbers. There’s no money anymore. It’s going to all be virtual. Where is my money? In iCloud. iBank. They’re going to come up with that, don’t worry.

Allah (swt) says, wa `ala ’l-mawloodi lahu. The father cannot leave the baby and run away, if he says, “I’m a mu`min. I’m a Muslim,” or the mother. That is `ibaadah. If you say, “Yaa Rabbee, I’m going out because You told me that I have to gather the rizq, their shelter, their clothes,” it is all written for you.

So, you totally give yourself in the Way of Allah (swt). It doesn’t mean you kill yourself in the Way of Allah (swt). There are other ways you give yourself for the Way of Allah (swt). You take yourself away from desires. If your ego says, “Do this. This is fun,” say, “No, I’m not doing it. Allah (swt) did not order that.” Don’t go the way of the ego.

When you do that, you have taken your ‘two steps’ as Awliyaullah have said, “Two steps and I arrive.” Sayyidina Musa (a)—our beautiful prophet, we love Sayyidina Musa (a), he is one of the Five Great Ones—said, “How can I reach You?”

How can you reach Allah (swt), where? He is not in a place or a time. There’s no place I can say, “I’m going to see Him.”

He said, “How can I reach you, O my Lord?”

As Awliyaullah narrated in their books, Allah said, “Yaa Musa! If you direct yourself to Me, you have reached Me.”

The minute you direct your heart to Allah (swt), you’re in His Presence. He is never absent from you, but you’re absent from Him. He never leaves you. That’s His Name, Al-Qayyum, Who makes everyone up and living. If He does not give you the manifestation of those two Beautiful Names, al-Hayyu al-Qayyum, you are neither alive nor in existence, you disappear.

He is with you but you are absent from Him. He said, “The minute you turn your heart to Me, I’m with you. You reached Me.”

When you turn your heart to Allah (swt) with two steps—one step is to turn to Him and the second step is to leave other than Him—those are the desires we talked about, that’s obeying and following His Way. What happens?

Awliyaullah have said when you direct your heart to Him and take your heart away from everything else, you will reach the station of the one who said, “Yaa Rabbee! Innee kullee bi kullika mashghoolun. All of me, with all of You is busy.” Can you say that to Allah (swt)?

When you reach that station, you’re saying, “All of me, with all of You is busy,” you will hear back, “Wa kullee li kullika mamdoodun, and all of Me to all of you is extended.” You become Divine, Rabbani. When you give all of you, when you make all of you with all of Him busy, a call, a sound will come to you that, “All of Me is extended to all of you.”

If Allah (swt) extends His Power to you, nobody can defeat you. If Allah (swt) extends His `Ilm to you, you are the most knowledgeable person in Creation. If Allah (swt) extends His Life to you, you’re eternally alive. If Allah (swt) extends His Rahmah to you, you will take that Rahmah and give it to others.

When Allah (swt) extends from Him to you, then you have become Rabbani, you belong to Him. Through you, He channels what He wants. That is the honor of a human being. It all starts with Kaf, Kaafin li Khalqihi, “He is enough for His servants.” Haadin li `ibaadi, “He is guiding His servants.”

Ya Yadullah, “His Hand is above their hands,” when they take bay`a with Rasoolullah (s) and the one that represents him, Awliyaullah. Aleemun bi Bariyaatihi, “He knows what He created.” Wa saadiqu ’l-wa`da, “He keeps His Word.”

Turn to Allah (swt) wholly. How do you do that? This is the hardest part, when you leave your iraada, your will. Rasoolullah (s) has said, qul laa amliku l-nafsee naf`an wa laa darran, “I do not own to myself benefit, I do not own to myself harm.” You have to know that you cannot benefit anybody and you cannot harm anybody unless Allah (swt) uses you in the way of goodness or in the way of evil. He can make you from Ahlu ‘l-khayr, so khayr will run on your hands. And He can make you from ahlu ‘l-shahr, evil, so evil runs on your hand.

You have no benefit or no harm to yourself or to others as Rasoolullah (s) was told to say in the Holy Qur’an. That’s why you leave your will and say, “Yaa Rabbee! Whatever You want.” That happens when you follow Waliyullah. Waliyullah will guide you to your destination.

It is said that Sayyidina Ibrahim ibn Adham (q) once bought a slave. He asked the slave, “What do you eat?”

He said, “Whatever you feed me, O master.”

“What do you do?”

“Whatever you use me in, O master.”

“What do you want?”

“My will in front of your will has no value. Whatever you will, master.”

Ibrahim ibn Adham (q) looked into himself and said, “O miskeen, O poor one, you were never to your Lord for one hour as this poor man is to you.” He is teaching Sayyidina Ibrahim ibn Adham through that example. If you want to eat, you say to Allah (swt), “Yaa Rabbee! Whatever You feed me.”

Now they go shopping and say, “We don’t like that one. We don’t like this one. We cannot afford that one. We cannot afford this.” Eat what you can afford. “This is what You wanted, O my Lord. You have put these people on top. You have put these people at the bottom. I don’t know. That’s what happened, so I eat whatever You feed me.” “What do you work?” “Whatever you employ me in, whatever comes through.”

Is there that ridaa anymore? Is there that contentment anymore among people? “What a lousy beep, beep, beep job.” I will just beep there. If Allah (swt) gave you that job, say, “Yaa Rabbee, alhamdulillah.” If you say, “Alhamdulillah wa shukrulillah,” Allah (swt) will give you more. You might get a bonus or a raise. You might win the Lotto, I don’t know. You might get an inheritance that you never knew from a cousin of yours in Africa or America or Asia, somewhere.

Allah (swt) opens doors. If you follow what Ibrahim ibn Adham (q) is teaching that, “You were not for your Lord one hour as this servant is for you,” then you should say, “Yaa Rabbee, whatever You feed me, I’m content. Whatever You employ or use me in, I’m content. Whatever You will, I’m content.” He wants you to follow what He has descended on Rasoolullah (s).

Follow (O men!) the revelation given unto you from your Lord, and follow not, as friends or protectors, other than Him. Little it is you remember of admonition. (Surah al-A’raf, 7:3)

Follow what has come down to you from your Lord to all prophets, to the Seal of Prophets. Follow the heavenly messages. That’s what He wants from you. That’s where you say, “Yaa Rabbee! There’s no will for me. It is Your Will.” I’m not talking about dunya stuff. I’m talking about deen. Because people are rejecting deen. They are rejecting what Allah (swt) wants from them. They are rejecting heavenly messages. They are rejecting the Ten Commandments, because some people understand that. They are rejecting what Rasoolullah (s) has brought. That is when your will is coming in the middle. That has to go. “Yaa Rabbee, whatever You want, I want,” and Allah (swt) will keep His Word.

I don’t know if you heard of Malik bin Dinar (r). He was from the tabi`een. He was a great `alim, from the great Awliyaullah. He was walking when he saw a kid crying. This kid was playing with the sand. He wanted to give salaam. He said, “No, this is a kid. Should I? Should I not?” Then he said, “Rasoolullah (s) used to give salam to little kids, so I will give salaam.” He said, “As-salaamu `alayka.” The kid said, “Wa `alayka‘s-salaam, yaa Malik.” Sayyidina Malik asked, “How do you know me?” He said, “When my ruh met your ruh, Allah (swt) made us know each other.”

That is the Hadith of Rasoolullah (s).

Al-arwaahu junoodan mujannada maa ta`arafa minha ’t-talaf wa maa tanaakira minha’khtalaf.

"Spirits are like soldiers. Those that are known to one another come together, and those that are not known to one another differ." (Sahih Bukhari)

In the `Alamu ‘l-Arwah, the World of Souls, the two souls that met with each other and became friends, here on Earth they become friends too. We all met in `Alamu ‘l-Arwah. It-talaf, they found intimacy, they found friendship and comfort. And the ones from repelled from each other, they differed down here. The ones that did not like each other up there, down here they differed. This is the Hadith of Rasoolullah (s). “My ruh met your ruh up there and Allah (swt) made us know each other.”

Malik bin Dinar (q) is a smart one. He knew that this was not a regular kid. As our teachers have said, Rijaalu ‘l-ghayb can be in any body. Sayyidina Khidr (a) can come in the image of anything, even in the image of a child. So he asked and now he is getting the treasures, “What is the difference between the ego and the mind?” He said, “Your ego is the one that prevented you from giving salaam to me. Your mind is the one that made you give salaam to me.” The egos are the rulers of those who don’t give salaam to others. The ones who do not give peace, comfort, and extend the hand of friendship to others, their evilish egos are ruling them. Look who is not giving peace and comfort to others. It is the arrogant, Hellfire ego.

He said, “Your ego is the one that prevented you from giving salaam to me, from offering peace to me.” We have to take a lesson from that. The ones that are preventing salaam to others are ruled by their bad egos, by their bad desires. The one who said, “Extend salaam and offer greetings and peace to him,” is your mind. When you choose your mind, you choose peace and friendship. You extend the hand of goodness. He took that advice.

The little boy was crying and laughing while playing with the sand so he asked him, “Why are you playing with the sand?” He said, “I am playing with the sand because we were created from it and to it we go back.” He asked, “Why are you crying one time and laughing one time?” He said, “When I think of my Lord’s punishment and that hardship, I cry. But when I think of my Lord’s Mercy and Forgiveness, I laugh.”

He is crying when he is remembering the hardship that you can go through when Allah (swt) is not happy with you. That’s why they cry for their sins, because they don’t want that part. They are happy with the Rahmah. Allah (swt) will keep His Word. This boy or this Waliyullah in the image of a boy is teaching that you will go back to your Lord. You will either go back to punishment or to mercy. What is the punishment exactly? It’s different. There is a punishment that we know which is Hellfire and there is reward which is Paradise, but what is the true punishment for Awliyaullah?

The true punishment for Awliyaullah as Sayyidina Abu Yazid al-Bistami (q) has said is, “On the Day of Judgement if Allah (swt) tells me, ‘Be busy with Paradise and its pleasures,’ that is my punishment.”

إِنَّ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلْيَوْمَ فِى شُغُلٍ فَـٰكِهُونَ

Verily the Companions of the Garden shall that Day have joy in all that they do. (Surah Yaseen, 36:55)

The people of Jannah, on this day they are busy. Busy with what? Fakiha, lahum feeha faakihatun, their pleasures. That’s why we are in tariqah. We are not in tariqah to get the pleasures of the other life. You have to follow true shuyookh. He said, “If Allah (swt) tells me, ‘Be busy with Paradise and whatever is in it,’ that is my punishment. That is my fire. That is my hardship. There is no Jannah higher than the Jannah of meeting and being and connecting to the Divine Presence. And there is no more harm and more burning than the fire of separation from the Divine Presence and being cut off from the Divine Presence.” Even in Jannah you will be busy.

The people of Jannah nowadays are busy in Jannah with their pleasures. For Awliyaullah even Jannah is `adhaab. People think that it is only Fire. No, Jannah can also be a punishment for you as Imam Ahmad has said. He said, “If Allah (swt) wants to keep you away, He will put you in His Jannah.” There is fee maq`adi ‘s-sidqin `inda maleekin-muqtadir, “a seat in the Presence of the Almighty King” and that is other than Jannah.

Awliyaullah have said, “If Allah (swt) puts me in Jannah then I am in punishment.” It’s not only the Fire that you are afraid of. The Fire is a spa, as I heard from my master. This is a secret that I heard from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), our master, and people might object to it or not, whatever they want. When Rasoolullah (s) went on Mi`raj, he entered Jannah to see what was in it and he entered Jahannam to see what was in it. When he entered Jahannam with his holy qadam, when his qadamu ‘s-shareef touched Jahannam, it turned into a hot spa. Do you go to spas? When you go to a spa, remember Jahannam. Say, “Jahannam is hotter than this. This is too hot for me.”

This is what Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) has learned from his master with kashf. If people object or don’t object, it’s up to them. They can take it or leave it. This is a flea market, as Mawlana Shaykh Nazim has said. You look and take what you like. You leave what you don’t like. You negotiate. It’s the same. It doesn’t matter if you take it or leave it. Are you going to negotiate for one dollar? “I want to buy it for half a dollar.”

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim has said that when Rasoolullah’s (s) qadam stepped into Jahannam to see what was in there, Allah (swt) was honoring Rasoolullah (s), showing him the first tabaqah, level. That is for the mu`mins who have disobeyed. The first level is for them and Jahannam has seven levels. The first level turned into a spa for the ones who had believed in Allah (swt) and followed Rasoolullah (s). The true punishment is to be away from the Divine Presence. That’s what Awliyaullah are afraid of.

I think this is more than enough information for all of us. May Allah (swt) forgive us. May Allah (swt) make us on the way of Awliyaullah. The door is to leave what you like to what He likes. Leave the stuff in your garage for what He likes. What does He like? He likes you to come to Him and ask. You have to show neediness to Him, your poverty to Him. “Yaa Rabbee, I need You for everything.” When you make du`a and say, “Yaa Rabbee, I am in need of You. You are Ghani. I am the poor one who has nothing. I need from You,” Allah (swt) will give you whatever you wish. If He doesn’t give it to you here, He will give it to you in Akhirah.

I’m sorry to say this, bit don’t wish for stupid things. People wish for things that have no value. What do you wish for? Two things. Ha Mim. This is another secret of the Qur’an. Wish for hubbullah wa ma`rifatullah. Awliyaullah have said Ha can mean hubb, love. Mim can mean ma`rifa. You have to ask, “Yaa Rabbee, admit me to the Ocean of Your Love.” Hubb means love. Mim, ma`rifa. “Yaa Rabbee, admit to the Ocean of getting to know You.” You want to know the one you love, don’t you? That’s what everybody wishes, so ask for that. Don’t ask for pebbles. Ask for jewels. What we ask for in dunya is all pebbles. It has no value.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. Ask for hubbullah and ma`rifatullah.

[Du`a.]

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, wa bi sirri Surat al-Fatihah.
