In This Time, Fulfilling Ten Percent of

Your Religious Obligations Will Take You to Heaven

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

4 August 2012 Nelson, UK

Fajr Suhbah at Jamia Ghausia Masjid

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`alaa fee haadha 'l-masjid.

Ati`oollaha wa ati`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

Obedience comes from love. If you really love Allah (swt), His Prophet and `ulama ‘l-ummah, those who follow in his footsteps, you obey them. If you love Allah, you obey; that is your balance. If you are approaching a sin you balance it and if you love Allah you leave it. If the love in your heart is not so perfect, you fall into disobedience. Everything is built on love of Allah (swt) and love of Sayyidina Muhammad (s).

Man yuti`i ’r-rasoola faqad ataa` Allah.

Who obeys Prophet obeys Allah. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:80)

This means whoever loves Muhammad (s) loves Allah (swt). Loving is not imitation. Everyone here has children and how much do you love them? If you love Allah (swt) like you love your children, already the veils will be taken away from your eyes and your heart! Prophet (s) spoke a hadith that is very important to mention here:

Related from Sayyidina Hasan (r), the Prophet (s) said:

إنكم في زمان من ترك منكم عشر ما أمر به ؛ هلك ، ثم يأتي زمان من عمل منكم بعشر ما أمر به ؛ نجاإ

Innakum fee zamaan man taraka minkum `ashra maa umira bihi halak thumma yaatiyy zamaanun man `amala minkum bi-`ashara maa umira bihi najaa.

You happen to be in such a time that if anyone of you leaves even one-tenth of what you have been ordered to do, he will be ruined. Then will come such a time that if anyone accomplishes even one-tenth of what the people have been ordered to do, he will be absolved.

(Sunan at-Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Fitan)

He was speaking to the Sahaabah (r), telling the people of his time, “Allah has sent obligations on you, and besides these obligations He has sent nawafil. He sent the Five Pillars of Islam, the Six Pillars of Imaan and the last, highest level, Ihsaan, Moral Excellence of the character. If you leave one-tenth of what Allah has ordered us to do, you will lose and you will perish.” It means you will have to fulfill ninety percent and if you didn’t you will fall down and perish. But Prophet (s) was dressed from Rahmatullah ‘l-Wasi’ah, Allah (swt)’s Greatest Mercy. Allah gave him that rahmah, so Prophet (s) said in this hadith:

Prophet (s) said, “You will have a time come on you” and in that Time, Allah says:

سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا فِي الْآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ

Sanureehim ayaatinaa fi’l-aafaaqi wa fee anfusihim hatta yatabayyina lahum annahu’l-haqq.

We will show them Our Signs on the horizon and in their own selves until it becomes evident to them that it is the Truth. (Surah Fussilat, 41:53)

This means in the future there is going to come a time when if you do only ten percent you will be saved! Today we are in the Signs of the Last Days, so if we do ten percent of what Allah (swt) has asked us to do we will be saved! This is not because of ourselves, but because of Allah’s Greatest Mercy that He is sending on the ummah, because Prophet (s) showed such great love toward his nation!

In a famous hadith from Imam al-Bukhari, Prophet (s) asked his Sahaabah (r), “Who is the strongest in faith?” First, they said, “Al-malaa’ika, the angels.” He said, “How could they not believe and have strong faith when they can see what is in Paradise? They believe because they can see, so it is not them.” They said, “Al-anbiya, the Prophets.” And he said, “How can the anbiya not believe when they have revelation coming on them; how could their faith not be strong?” Then they said, “Sahaabah, your Companions, yaa Rasoolullah!” He said, “You must have faith! How can you not have faith when I am among you? But there is a group of people coming at the end of days who will believe in me although they didn’t see me. Those are ashaddu imaana, the strongest in faith.”

`An ibn `Abbas annahu qaala li-julasaa’ihi yawman: Ayyu’n-naasi a`ajabu imaanan, qaaloo al-malaa’ikah. Qaaloo: al-anbiyaa. Qaala wa kayfa laa yu’min al-anbiyaa wa ’l-amr yanzil `alayhim ghadwatan wa `ashiyya? Qaaloo: fa-nahnu? Qaala: wa kayfa laa tu’minoona wa antum tarawna maa tarawna min rasoolillah maa tarawn? Thumma qaala: Qaala Rasoolullahi: a`ajaba ’n-naasi imaanan qawmun yaatoona min ba`dee yuminoon bee wa lam yarawnee. Oolaa’ika ikhwaanee haqqan.

The Prophet (s) asked the Sahaabah (r), “Who has the strongest faith in their heart?” They answered, “The Prophets!” Prophet (s) said, “How will they not have strong faith when revelation comes to them?” They said, “Then it is the angels!” Prophet (s) said, “How will they not have strong faith when they are in the Divine Presence?” They answered, “Us, your Sahaabah!” Prophet (s) said, “How will they not have strong faith when you also see me?” He (s) said, “The best of people will come at the End of Time, and they will not see me but they still believe in me. They are my brothers, truly.” (Sahih Bukhari)

These people are leaving their beds when it is time to sleep, coming to the masajid and praying at Fajr time. The most difficult times are Fajr and `Isha, but they leave their beds, their wives and their children and come to the masjid. “They did not see me, yet they believed in me; those are ashaddu imaanan and they have the strongest faith.” That is why it is a good tiding, because Prophet (s) has so much love. He said, ha’ulani ikhwaani, “They are my brothers.” He described us, although we don’t deserve it, as his brothers! What could you want that is better? Will a brother leave his brother to fall into Hellfire, or will he take his brother with him to Paradise?

Yawma yafiru ’l-mar’oo wa min akheehi wa ummihi wa abeehi wa saahibatihi wa baneehi.

On the Day when people will run away from their brothers and sisters, from his mother and his father and then from wife and children. (Surat `Abasa, 80:34-36)

On that Day, first people will run from their brothers. Allah (swt) didn’t say first, ummihi wa abeehi (your mother and your father) and then akhee (brother), He said that first he will run away from his brother, the one closest to him with the same mother and father, to look for safety. Prophet (s) said, “They are my brothers; they don’t need to run away as I will take them with me to Paradise and I will not leave them!”

Today, who is doing what Sahaabah (r) did? No one! Prophet (s) said that if the people of his time left ten percent of their obligations they would have perished, and for us he said if we do ten percent and leave ninety percent we will be saved. However, that doesn’t mean you leave your prayers and fasting, because these are obligations, so you have to do them.

Abu Hurayrah (r) narrated that Prophet (s) was preparing us and teaching us that the days are ending and you have to prepare yourself for what is coming in front of all of us.

Prophet (s) said:

If your leaders are the best of you and the rich ones are the most generous ones, then your matter is consultation. (Abu Hurayrah)

This means accepting each other, not fighting with each other and making fitna for no reason. Rather, your matter is a consultation, ashoora, where you ask for opinions and get the best one to work things out. In that case, continuing the hadith, Prophet (s) said:

Idhaa kaana amarawkum khiyaarukum wa aghniyaaookum sumahaa’ukum wa amrukum shooraa baynakum fa-zhahra’l-ard khayrun lakum min batnihaa, wa idhaa kaana amarawkum shiraarukum wa aghniyaaookum bukhalaa’kum wa amrukum ilaa nisaa’ikum akum fa-batnu ’l-ard khayrun lakum min zhahrihaa.

If your leaders are good and if your matter is consultation, then you are the best to be living on earth (i.e. it is better for you to be above ground than in the grave). But if your leaders are the worst and the rich ones are the most stingy …

Think about this and look at the world today!

“We want to extend the masjid, so please, rich ones come!”

“O, we don’t have it; there is an economic crisis.”

The next day wealthy ones have a Lamborghini, an expensive car. They are generous for dunya, but when it comes to giving for the masjid they run away. Prophet (s) said the rich ones are stingy and the matters are in the hands of your ladies, this means don’t bother them with your matters, don’t bring what you are struggling with in the dunya into the house in the evening, then maybe you might get wrong the advice. Although Sahaabah (r) learned a lot from Sayyida A`yesha (r) and Musalyma (r), and we are not demeaning the status of ladies, but the Prophet (s) is referring to political issues. Like today there are lady prime ministers, but why; are there no more men?

To be in the grave: this is an intro for what we are going to speak in the coming days.

laa taqoom as-saa`tu hattaa yaqbida ’l-`ilmu wa takthura ’z-zalaazilu wa yataqaariba ’z-zamaanu wa tazh-har al-fitanu wa yakthura ’l-harju wa huwa ’l-qatlu hattaa yakthuru feekumu ’l-maalu fa-yafeed.

The Hour (Last Day) will not be established until (religious) knowledge will be taken away (by the death of religious learned men), earthquakes will be very frequent, time will pass quickly, afflictions will appear, murders will increase and money will overflow amongst you. (Bukhari)

Another Sign of the Last Days is that knowledge will be lifted up. The Sahaabah (r) asked Prophet (s) whether this meant the Qur’an will be lifted, and he said it was not so; it meant that `ulama, real scholars who do not allow any bid`a and who are lions for Shari`atullah will die, leaving no substitutes. Those are not like famous contemporary `ulama who accuse Ahlu ’s-Sunnah wa ’l-Jama`ah of bid`a while in reality, they are committing bid`a! They do not show a good image of Islam due to their mishandlings and extremist views. Even sultans fear real `ulama because for them, Haqq is above everything! (...)

The Prophet (s) said knowledge will be lifted up (taken away) and he further explained it means knowledge will be there, but no one will have the capability to understand it. Today, very few of such `ulama exist and they are scattered in places like Pakistan and in parts of Africa and Asia. Most of them are dead or hidden.

Our concern here is with knowledge, so I will read the hadith, but we will not go into its details. The Prophet (s) said:

The Hour will not be established until (religious) knowledge will be taken away (by the death of religious learned men), earthquakes will be very frequent, time will pass quickly, afflictions will appear, murders will increase, and money will overflow amongst you.

(Narrated by Abu Hurayrah. Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 2.146)

From England to Indonesia is a time difference of about eight hours; it is night there and here it is day. Also, there is too much fitna today. In every house and pocket there is fitna: your iPhone, Blackberry and other smart phones. You start texting and then press keys and watch something on your phones, and Allah does not like that! You carry your mobile phone on your hip or in your back pocket, and now your hip has become a fitna to you! On the Day of Judgement, our body parts will be witnesses against us: our tongue for whatever bad we said, our hands for whatever bad we did and our legs for wherever bad we went!

That is very dangerous, but there is an exception for Muslims in general, as Allah (swt) has one lawyer who will defend them, who will not enter Paradise without them: Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! This is the secret of Rahmah.

In Adab al Mufrad, Imam Bukhari states that on the Day of Judgment, Prophet (s) will make sajda between the Hands of Allah (swt) because according to hadith, the Arsh will descend in Sham ash-Shareef among the Ahlu ‘l-Bayt (r), the blessed Family of Prophet (s), where many of his wives (r) and Sahaabah (r) are buried. Let us think now, which is bigger: the Arsh or somewhere on earth? Allah (swt) cannot be contained. The earth might be like the head of a pin if you observe it from other galaxies; it might disappear in comparison. Allah (swt) said:

Yawm tubaddalu ’l-ardu ghayra ’l-ardi wa ‘s-samaawaatu wa barazoo lillaahi ’l-waahidi ‘l-qahhaar.

On the Day when the earth will be changed to another earth and so will be the heavens, and they (all creatures) will appear before Allah, the One, the Irresistible. (Surah Ibraheem 14:48)

This earth will not be there; in its place there will be a new earth pure from fitna and sin, because Allah (swt) is pure does not accept sin. If your prayer mat has even a speck of dirt you cannot pray on it, so how could Arsh ar-Rahman descend upon this dirty earth? Qabeel showed how to bury Habeel (a) because to be in the earth is a cleansing process. When it eats your body it is cleansing it and through shafa`at an-Nabi (s) another pure body will stand on the Day of Resurrection.

The Prophet (s) will be in sajda between the Hands of Allah (swt), Who will open unprecedented du`as to Prophet that He has never opened to him before. What kind of du`as and how many? If you imagine the number of du`as people make, maybe a billion or more! Prophet (s) is saying that what Allah (swt) will open to him is so great that in comparison no other du`as will even exist! Those du`as will be in Arabic, the language of Paradise, and Prophet (s) will have never heard or known them before, and he will begin to read them. They may be like the sacred letters“Kaaf,” “Haa,” “Yaa,” “Ayn,” “Saad.” which some `ulama say are Secret Names of Allah (swt).

Others say they are du`as, based on the hadith about when Jibreel (a) came to the Prophet (s) and said, “Kaaf,” the Prophet (s) said, “`Alimtu.” The same happened when he said “Haa” and “`Ayn.” Whatever lettered Jibreel mentioned, the Prophet (s) said that he already knew it, which means he knew the secrets of all things that begin with the letter Kaaf. How many things did he know? These are secrets being given to the Prophet (s). The word beginning with Haa, which most frequently occurs in the Qur’an is “Huwa.” Qul Huwa,“Say, ‘He is’ (The Unknown)!”

Allah (swt) will open these du`as exclusively for Prophet (s), and only Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s) know them, we don't know. Then Allah (swt) will ask the Prophet (s) to raise his head so He may grant to him the Power of Intercession.

Yaa Muhammad! Irfa` raasak wa sal tu`tah wa qul yasma` w’ashfa` tushafa`.

O Muhammad! Raise your head, ask and you will be given! Say and you will be heard! Intercede and it will be accepted! (Bukhari)

The Prophet (s) will ask to take each member of his ummah to Paradise and not one less! That is why Allah (swt) said, Alam nashrah laka sadrak, Have We not expanded Thy breast?.(Surat al-Inshirah, 94:1) “O Muhammad (s)! Why are you sad when you know I am going to give them all Paradise? We expanded your chest to take them all!” First, Allah (swt) will grant one-third of the ummah to enter Paradise. Inshaa-Allah we will be with them! But the Prophet (s) will still not be satisfied. Allah (swt) is al- Kareem. A generous person will give, so what about al-Kareem? No one can compare to Allah’s Generosity! This is just one Beautiful Name that no one can describe. What about other Names?

Then Prophet (s) will bow down in another sajda and more du`as will be opened to him, all different from before. Allah (swt) will tell him to “raise his head and ask.” Then Prophet (s) will ask for more of his ummah to enter Paradise, and another one-third will be granted entry. Then he will make the third sajda, and Allah (swt) will grant him the remainder of the ummah, except one, the worst one! Who is that? Allah (swt) knows! The Prophet (s) will take them all, but still his heart will be worried for that one. Allah (swt) will say, “Yaa Muhammad (s)! Do you think your rahmah is greater? I kept him to show that My Rahmah is greatest! Take him to Paradise as he is forgiven!”

Ummat an-Nabi (s) will be the first nation to enter Paradise on the Day of Resurrection. Don't underestimate, he can even close Jahannam. Jibreel (a) took the Prophet (s) to Jahannam and its temperature dropped! What do you think will happen on the Day of Judgment?

Wa man yuti`i Allaha wa ‘r-rasoola fa’oolaaika ma` ’Lladheena an`am Allahu `alayhim min an-nabiyyina wa ‘s-siddiqeena wa ‘sh-shuhadaa’ wa ‘s-saaliheena wa hasuna oolaa’ika rafeeqa.

All who obey Allah and the Prophet are in the company of those on whom is the grace of Allah, of the prophets (who teach), the sincere (lovers of Truth), the witnesses (who testify), and the righteous (who do good). Ah, what a beautiful fellowship! (Surat an-Nisaa, 4:69)

Prophet (s) will take them and go back, because all the other ummahs will be waiting for his shafa`a, all of them!

Adam faman siwaahu illah tahta liwaa'ee Yawma 'l-Qiyaamah wa laa fakhr.

Therefore,Prophet (s) said, “Adam and whoever is other than him will be under my flag on the Day of Judgment, without vanity.” (Ahmad, Musnad)

Every nabi will ask for his help! Alhmadulillah that Allah (swt) created us from Ummat an-Nabi (s), which is the only way we will be saved, not through our `amal, because they are blended with sins. With the Rahmah that Allah (swt) gave Prophet (s), He will forgive our sins. May Allah (swt) forgive us and bless the imam and those who pray in this masjid.

This is just an introduction, because many people ask about dhikrullah. We will expalin that during our time here and we will also explain why sadiqeen, those who seek Realities, always do dhikrullah.

Inna fee khalqi ’s-samawaati wa ’l-ard wa’khtiflaafi ’l-layli wa ’n-nahaar la-ayaatin li-ooli ’l-albaab. Alladheena yadhkuroonallaha qiyaaman wa qu`oodan wa `alaa junoobihim wa yatafakkaroona fee khalqi ’s-samawaati wa ’l-ard rabbana maa khalaqta hadha baatilan subhaanaka faqina `adhaab an-naar.

Behold! In the creation of Heaven and Earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding, those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting and lying down on their sides, and contemplating the creation of the Heavens and the Earth, (saying), "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose! Glory to You! Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.” (Surat Aali `Imraan, 3:191-192)

Inshaa-Allah we will introduce the series about dhikrullah and if there is time, we will speak about the importance of tasawwuf, salawaat or durood, and how the `ulama got it and from where. Today, some Muslims say not to make too much salawaat as it it shirk, but they don't know salawaat is the dhikr of every angel, so are they committing shirk?

Inna-Llaaha wa malaa'ikatahu yusalloona `ala 'n-nabiyy, yaa ayyuha ’Lladheena aamanoo salloo `alayhi wa sallimoo tasleema.

Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him.

(Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:56)

Are angels making salawaat or not? They are! So why doesn’t Allah (swt) tell them it is shirk? Rather, He ordered them to make salawaat and we are following them!

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

Was-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.
