The Wali Is Happy When Dunya Turns Away From Him

Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een, wa'tabi'een lahu bi ihsaani ila yawmi 'd-deen wa `alaa saa'iri 'l-anbiyaa wa 'l-mursaleen, wa awliya wa `ibaadillahi 's-saliheen wa `alayna ma`um ajma`en, yaa arhama 'r-rahimeen, wa laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billahi 'l-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem.

Dastoor, yaa Sayyidee wa mawlay, yaa Sayyidee al-Qutb al-Mutasarrif. Madad, yaa Sultan al-Awliya. Nazharak, himmatak yaa Sayyidee al-Kareem. Dastoor yaa Sayyidee wa mawlay, yaa Sayyideei Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani. Madad yaa Rijaal Allah…

Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Ramadan Mubarak!

First of all, we start with that. Insha'Allah, we give our congratulations to everybody who is observing the fast of Ramadan. We give our congratulations and greetings, and we ask Allah’s (swt) blessings and prayers to be upon the ones who follow the way of Rasoolullah (s). And may Allah (swt) guide the ones that have skipped His way, or are heedless of His way to the right way, to the way of Heavens, to the way of pleasure of the Lord of Creation. May Allah (swt) make us always steadfast on the footsteps of Rasoolullah (s).

They asked me to give some suhbahs. I did not intend to. I thought that we're asking for extra words of wisdom. Insha'Allah, if this is the will of the people, I will follow. That’s why we have a suhbah today. Insha'Allah we will give suhbahs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and the Friday Jumu`ah will be given in Burton.

May Allah (swt) help all of us. The best thing a human being can do or achieve is to humble oneself. The more we humble ourselves, the more Allah (swt) raises our levels. It is not by claiming to be an `alim, a shaykh, a leader, or thinking “I am a king, a big one, a sultan.” It is not by claim, but by Allah’s (swt) Fadl, His Grace and Favor, that He elevates the humble ones. We are trying in this Way, in this Tariqah, Tariqah Naqshbandiyya. Our aim is to be humble ones. By being humble, Allah (swt) raises you, by being humble you will be taken up to Mi`raaj by humbleness, O human being! By humbling oneself, one is actually ascending in Mi`raaj, but by claiming lordship, or bigness, one is descending from Mi`raaj. So be careful!

Allah (swt) sent us to this body, and that’s what my grandfather, our Master and beloved, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) is saying, "Allah (swt) has created these universes, but without the human being they would have no meaning, no ma`naa.” Allah (swt) created these universes for whom? For the one that will inhabit them. You are the inhabitant of these universes, O human being!

Why did Allah (swt) create the Moon? It gives you sightings every month: that’s the function of the Moon (and much more). It’s for you, O human being, to tell you which month is entering and exiting. The Sun, Allah (swt) created it for what? He created it for your day and your night. The trees, fruits, cattle and wild animals, Allah (swt) has created them for you, O human being.

So without human beings, Mawlana Shaykh is saying, there would be no meaning for these universes. Your body, where is it without your soul. O human being? It’s in the cemetery, lying still. Like Sayyidina Adam’s (a) body was lying still, the angels were passing by and saw just a mound, a form. But when He created al-Insaan, the human being’s soul, that body had a meaning.

What is your essence? It’s not your body, your body is something that you are dwelling in, but it's not the real you. That’s why we don’t get concerned too much about what happens in the world. We are just inhabiting this world, these universes through this body, but it’s not us, we are something different.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) is saying that without insaan, human beings, there’s no meaning for these universes, but when He created human beings the wisdom and meaning of these universes appeared. Mawlana (q) says it’s the same as if you build a huge palace, mashayyidd: someone has built it, but it’s empty, there’s nobody inside it, so what value does it have? You can build the highest, greatest palaces, but they’re empty. The value of a place is by its inhabitants.

Mawlana said, sharaf al-makaan bi ’l -makeen, “The honor of a place is by its inhabitants.” So you are in this body. When Allah created human beings He made them perfect. You are a perfect one, in the best of forms, soorah. Your jism, body, has a perfect soorah, image, but the meaning is only completed when your soul, the rooh, is blown into it. Then the body acts, it commits deeds, then the honor of this wujood, existence, is because of the soul. That is the honor of Allah to the Children of Adam, wa laqad karamnaa bani Adam,

وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِي آدَمَ

We have honored the Children of Adam. (Surat al-Israa’, 17:70)

That is because He has blown into us from His Rooh, His Soul.

That’s why we became spiritually perfect, because we have His Breath inside us, and He created us in the best form. So we are perfect from both sides: from the heavenly spiritual side, and from the earthly dark side.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) is saying Allah put the ego in the earthly side of the Creation, in this body, to make sure that the existence of the human form exists through eating, drinking and generations to come. That's why the ego is focused on desires: it likes to eat, drink, to mate, and to be with people. That’s the hikmah, wisdom of continuing human life.

So your body is a human life that exists through the ego, and the secret of it is the soul that has been blown into it. One is nooraani, enlightened, and the other is zhulmaani, darkened. The soul is spiritual, noorani, light, and the ego is earthly and dark, so there’s a struggle between them.

This is the couple that Allah mentioned in the Qur'an, “We have made you a couple, a pair,” the soul that is spiritual and the ego that is earthly. Bringing together these two things creates you, your essence, which is half angelic and half earthly, egoistic. That is the qalb, the essence of a human being. When we follow Shari`ah outwardly and Tariqah inwardly, what happens? We prepare our hearts. When our zhaahir (spirit) and baatin (ego) are compliant with Allah’s Orders, that heart starts accepting Fa'iz, the outpouring of `ilm from Allah’s Divine Presence.

This is the same `ilm that Awliya and anbiyaa have taken, so you become one of them, with them. So with that `ilm Allah will elevate you in higher ranks. May Allah make us from them, that Allah elevates us in His Divine Presence.

Wa waratha Sulaymanu Dawood, Allah said that Sulayman has inherited Dawood.

وَوَرِثَ سُلَيْمَانُ دَاوُودَ

And Solomon was David's heir. (Surat an-Naml, 27:16)

The Awliya have said that Sulayman here represents the heart, the Sun. After the toppling of the ego and the soul they give birth to the heart, which is the essence of the human being. Sulayman is your essence, “sulaym” is the beautification of the name “saleem”, pure, healthy has no problems. “Sulayman” means “sulaym aan”, (aan=now), meaning now it is your turn to be healthy, that is the name Sulayman, So Sulayman has inherited Dawood, he has inherited his father in his prophethood. And the same thing with you O human being, your heart, your essence will inherit rooh, rooh is Dawood (as), qalb is Sulayman (as). Your heart is Sulayman (as) and Dawood is the soul (as). Allah (swt) will send over the soul, the Rooh from His Divine Presence, all the Fa'iz. Rooh is very transparent, a very clear entity, it does not withhold anything, it sends it right to the heart.

Awliyaullah have given the example of the Sun, the Atmosphere and the Earth. The Atmosphere lets the sunlight go through it, it does not hold it, but it exists. The Earth is the one that takes all the benefit from the Sun. So from Allah’s Divine Presence the rooh, the Atmosphere, comes through the Fa'iz, the rooh does not hold it. The Earth gets it, the qalb gets it. When the qalb gets it then he saves it and with that he becomes puree and purer and Awliyaullah have said when the qalb saves this `ilm, knowledge, he becomes more humble, because he is knowing and understanding the grace and the favour of Allah upon him.

So a true Wali, a true shaykh, is the one that when he gets the `ilm he becomes more and more humble, because he is thanking His Lord, “Yaa Rabbee, shukran lillah it is all from Your Grace and Favor.” A true `alim is humble, walking around in humbleness, not claiming to be anything. May Allah make us from them. Words of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) don’t end, these are all wisdoms of Tariqah. You are the essence, you are the by-product of the soul and the ego. The ego is not you, the soul is not you, the universe, the body that you are in is not you. The essence of a human, your essence is the combination of the soul and the ego, your essence is the combination of all spiritual and physical worlds. You are a very honorable creation, O human being! Don’t waste it in following desires, don’t waste it in following dunya, you have something else to achieve. You have to achieve `Ilm al-Haqaaiq, Knowledge of Realities, that will open to you once the heart becomes clearer and purer.

It is said that one Qutb of his time, maybe Qutb al-Aqtaab or Qutb az-Zamaan, he asked that his son become his inheritor. He said, “Yaa Rabbee make my son the qutb of the time.” Awliya said that Allah said to him secretly, Maqaam al-khilaafah laa yakoonoo bi ‘l-wiraatha, “The position of representation is not by inheritance,” that is for health and money and things like that. The wiraatha only happens, the true inheritance is the one of a true and pure mureed, a mureed that has no aim of gaining prominence and access to rich ones and access to politicians and prominence in this dunya and prominence with people, the true mureed only has Allah in his heart. He will inherit from his qutb what? Al-mureedu 's-saadiq, the truthful mureed inherits `Ilm al-Haqaaiq, the Knowledge of Realities from his shaykh. Because he was prepared for it. Your heart has to be prepared to accept that Fa'iz, Divine Outpourings. When he is prepared to accept the Knowledge of Realities, realities become his stations and his positions. Whichever reality he is in, his position is that, and these realities don’t end. That’s why Awliyaullah are roaming in spiritual maqams, in spiritual heavens and spiritual stations, they are not interested in physical stations.

When does the heart or the chest of a true Waliyullah, become expanded?

أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ

Did We not expand for you, [O Muhammad], your breast? (Surat al-Inshirah, 94:1)

The sign of Waliyullah, if you want to know truly their sign is yansharihu sadrahu bi tahawaalu 'd-dunya wa talabaatihaa wa shahawaatihaa `anhu, “When dunya turns away from him, when the desires of dunya turn away from him, when the requests of dunya turn away from him, when the positions of dunya turn away from, when the money and wealth of dunya turn away from he is happy.” Waliyullah is happy when Allah turns away dunya from him, not the one that is happy when dunya comes to him. The one that is being freed from dunya is the Wali, the one that wants his Lord, the ilm and hikmah and the noor and love of his Lord, that is your essence, O human being, to become Waliyullah, the representative of Allah in the spiritual world as Adam (a) was and sajdah of respect was made to him [by the angels] as he is the Representative of Allah in the spiritual world of Allah and to also be the Representative of Allah in this world.

Don’t be too busy with nonsense, don’t be too busy with what happens in this world. Allah (swt) is in full control, He is in full control of everything, He knows everything that happens in this world and He is in full control of everything that is happening, you have to believe in that and always dedicate and direct your heart to that so Allah will make you a Waliyullah, an honorable one. Inshaa-Allah.

I’ve read so many things, inshaa-Allah some of it sticks in your heart. The real mu’min keeps the safaatihi, the characteristics of the real mu’min's heart is that he accepts what is coming from the the Divine Presence and with his strength he is able to keep it. If you are able to accept what’s coming through this suhbah from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim’s (q) word and you are able to keep it strongly in your heart you have a pure heart.

If you are someone who hears it and it goes out the other ear and it never stays in your heart, then you have work to do. It means you have given yourself too much for dunya and you have to give yourself to Mawla. Ramadan is for that, to turn yourself away from dunya, why do we cut ourselves from pleasures? Because we want Allah, so that’s why the ones that don’t fast don’t want Allah. They say, “We are after the Lord, we seek the Lord!” So why don’t you cut yourselves out from the pleasure of dunya? Allah is giving you and forcing you to enter Jannah! He is forcing you into Jannah, your Friend, He pushes you to good places, He wants to push you to Jannah. They say “Why are we forced to fast?” You are obligated because He is pushing you from your behind, from your back to enter Jannah and you’re still refusing, still struggling and forcing yourself back!

Did Allah make the fast for Himself, the fard for Himself? He is forcing you, squeezing you into Jannah and you are still refusing! When are you going to cut yourself from the pleasure of this world? Allah is sending Ramadan for what? He is saying to you, “Leave dunya come to Me, leave it at least half the time.” Masha'Allah, I heard they are doing suhoor up to Fajr time in Dearborn, you can eat all you want from Maghrib to Fajr!

Allah is asking you, “Okay I allow you that, I give you that, enjoy yourself, give Me half the day, cut yourself off from the pleasures of this world. Come to Me. I have things for you, I have love stored for you, I have things that you never heard of for you, I have given to you from My Breath from My Own Soul, min roohee, I have honored you in the best of images,” and we are still refusing. No, Ramadan is for that. Ramadan is for Allah, forcing people to come to Him and enter Jannah., to cut themselves off from the pleasures of dunya. They are still saying they can’t go without food and drink. You can. The sick person is eating? They are giving him food through IV, they’re not eating, they can go without food for months.

Allah is telling you to go without food and cut off the pleasure of that desire for your ego, “Come back to the soul that I have blown inside of you. It is transparent and clear, it will convey and transmit from My Divine Essence to your essence, to your heart, O human being, so you become My representative.” Become the representative of your Lord, the representative of God, not representative of Big Pharma, not representative of Big Media, not representative of Big Oil. That’s all nonsense, they come and go, no! O Representative of The Creator. Know your value, O human being!

May Allah make us from the ones that follow the footsteps of Awliya, the footsteps of Anbiyaa, the footsteps of Habeebullah (s), and in this month of Ramadan may Allah make us cleanse ourselves, physically and spiritually and clear our hearts to accept His Fa'iz, Fa'iz ilahi. Yaa Rabbee, give us from Your Fa'iz from Your Love, love of Rasoolullah (s).

Again, Ramadan mubarak to all of you. Inshaa-Allah we will see you tomorrow for dhikr at 7pm.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, wa bi sirri Surati 'l-Fatihah.
