Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

Anyone who does siwak before prayer or before any `ibaadah, that will be equal to 27 times more [baraka], but we are leaving this Sunnah which is not just double, it multplies your `amal by 27! So anyone who does not have a miswak try to find a place where they sell them. You can use the miswak, even a small piece is okay.

Grandshaykh (q) used to tell a story, in time of the Prophet (s) they used siwak to clean their teeth and there is some kind of element in the miswak that kills all kinds of germs. Now they are making toothpaste, but this (miswak) is easier. He said there was a war and the enemy was coming to fight the Sahaabah (r). As you know, their fight was not like today's fight, it was face-to-face; they didn't deceive each other, this is the rule, they stood in line on this side of the group, the other side the kuffaar, and they began mubarazza, dueling and then when the order came they come against each other.

The way to carry the siwak is like this, the pinky is on the end and holding it like that. Allahu Akbar, the Prophet (s) knelt on one knee and with adab he hid his mouth with one hand and said, Allahumma tahhir qalbi mina ‘sh-shirki wa ‘n-nifaaq, “O Allah! Purify my heart from unbelief and hypocrisy,” and then he brushed his teeth.

So immediately the Prophet (s) ordered the Sahaabah (r) to use the siwak and seeing this the enemy said, “O, they are going to eat us!” and they ran away. So let us use the siwak against our enemy, Shaytan, and our nafs.
