Highway to Greatness

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

6 March 2014 Feltham, London, England

Suhbah at Manor House

Subtitle: Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) brought the most people to Islam.

We have to thank Allah (swt), Who gave us this place and from nothing to everything, and like you in Orgiva, Spain (Spain mureeds are present), Allah gave you a place inshaa-Allah to work very well. We have to say appreciation to Allah (swt) because if was not for Him it would be impossible to get anything, even you don’t guarantee your soul. Allah (swt) is The One Who knows how you can guarantee your soul or not, so in order to guarantee our soul in good hands inshaa-Allah, to always be with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), is to thank Allah (swt).

لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ

If you thank Me, I will give you more. (Surah Ibraaheem, 14:7)

So as you said very nice words, Allah (swt) wants us to be grateful to Him, not to anyone else, and in order to be on that highway of gratefulness, we need a vehicle. That vehicle is our guide and that guide is Sultan al-Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), who can take you to the presence of the Prophet (s) and from there, Allah knows best. Prophet (s) will not keep you, he will take you also, and there, that will be the big success!

So I was saying that every `amal that we do, at the end is going to stop as you cannot do it forever. Every `amal you try to put your finger in, you might find a lot of obstacles but you are doing it and you come to an end and you do it, but it might not be accepted except one thing or two or many, but the most important now is the one that cannot be rejected by angels on you, as Allah said in the Holy Quran:

وَقَدِمْنَا إِلَى مَا عَمِلُوا مِنْ عَمَلٍ فَجَعَلْنَاهُ هَبَاء مَّنثُورًا

And We shall turn to whatever deeds they did (in this life), and We shall make such deeds as floating dust scattered about. (Surat al-Furqaan, 25:23)

“We come to what they have done and we throw it in their faces, it is not accepted,” but one `amal that is accepted: whatever else you do, I’m not speaking about obligations, because obligations have to be done--the five Prayers, fasting, Hajj, Zakaat, Shahaadah--that is something else. But as Prophet (s) said, that thing will never be lost by sins, impossible; you might do a sin, but that does not affect that `amal that you have done, it’s always there clean, because Prophet (s) has said in authentic hadith, “There are some people that might come to you and tell you that you are going high and that you are in the majlis of Rasoolullah (s) and you are in Deewaan al-Awliya, but that is not going to change anything.” It might be he’s lying, might be he’s not lying, might be he’s saying things only to make you feel good, so don’t believe it and don't build a structure that is not supported by hadith of the Prophet (s). If it is supported by hadith of Prophet (s), finished, no one can argue it, but if it is built on philosophy, everyone can argue it! So it might be you use philosophy to make you think well, but the end of it is what is important, and that is is what the Prophet (s) said, that `amal cannot be taken away! Even if you eat the tail or you don't eat the tail of the ox, the Spanish like the tail of the ox, you eat the tail, when we were young we used to eat the tails, but then after half a day the taste is gone, is it not? You eat something else. But this `amal, the taste does not go. It is always there and never changes, as Prophet (s) said, and what he says is wahi, never changes!

وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَى. إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَى

Nor does he say anything of (his own) desire. It is no less than Revelation sent down to him.

(Surat an-Najm, 53:3-4)

Allah said in Holy Qur’an, the Prophet (s) doesn’t say anything or speak except wahi. That is coming from Allah (swt) in His Hadith (Qudsi), He speaks. So are we interested in that `amal or not? That is the main concern. If we are interested, the Spanish people or English people, or Far East people or Far West people, American people, are they interested or not? To guarantee that this `amal will not be thrown in their faces, what do they do? If they do that one thing, it is enough for them and enough for everyone, even enough for a non-Muslim who becomes Muslim, or we can say every Muslim and mu`min. Especially in Spain, and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) loves that country, and everywhere, and that is why it makes Mawlana Shaykh’s name on every tongue, because Allah (swt) likes that and Prophet (s) likes that specific `amal that you can do, the action, which is not only by saying it by tongue, but by action.

You know when they make movies, they (rehearse) what you have to say through the tongue, the script, and they have to memorize it. You say it by tongue, but you have to act on it later. That is difficult. I can memorize hundreds of texts, but then I have to act and I don't know how to act on it. I cannot act on it because either Shaytan is coming and playing with me so I don't act on it, but I can say it. And this is the worst of `amal, to say something and don't apply it on yourself. You say to people “do this” and you don't do it. That is worse than not doing anything, because if you don't do anything, at least you didn’t do anything (bad). If you say to someone "don't steal" and you steal, huh? So that `amal is clean and is easy for you, for them (mureeds), as Prophet (s) said:

‏فوالله لأن يهدي الله بك رجلا واحدا خير من حمر النعم‏

By Allah, for Allah to guide one man by you is better for you than (possessing a whole lot of) red camels. (Narrated by `Ali ibn Abi Talib in Bukhari & Muslim)

If Allah (swt) will guide someone to Islam through you, that is better than this whole dunya, the whole wealth that you have, to bring one person to Islam! How much you must be happy now, you must be jumping, and on your behalf (this one) jumped already! That one whom you bring to Islam and they say Shahaadah and begin to pray, that `amal is written for you as if you did the whole worshipness of this whole dunya, because you brought someone to Allah from no imaan to imaan!

So how many people Mawlana brought like that? That is why Allah is raising him higher and higher! What he is been as Sultan al-Awliya? Because he did what not one wali did; they did something else, but he was focusing on bringing non-Muslims to be Muslims, and it is well-established among scholars and non-scholars around the world that it is Shaykh Nazim who brought the most, it is a fact and every scholar knows that. Many scholars that I know and the biggest scholars around the world know that as soon as you mention his name, that he is the one who brought the majority to Islam!

Allah says, “Bring one, for Me is enough.” We cannot be like Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), but bring one. How many of you brought not just yourself to Islam, but you brought many with you to Islam? Those who did not bring any must put soil on their faces and throw dirt on top of them, because they don't have a safety. The safe deposit box has two keys: the bank key, always the bank manager has one copy, and you have one. If you don't use the two together, the safe box doesn’t open. So those who did not bring anyone to Islam are stuck. The most who brought people to Islam are Naqshbandis and not just that, but brought them with full Sunnah! It is not necessary that they observe this Sunnah when they travel in public [wearing turban, jubba, etc.] because many go to work, but those who don't work, like Abdul Hadi, can wear [Sunnah], like Shaykh Umar can wear normal clothes and then afterwards they can wear their Sunnah clothes for prayer. But those who did not bring anyone [to Islam], that is big question mark.

So Prophet (s) said, “If Allah guides one person to Islam through you, it is better for you than all the wealth of the whole dunya.” Here ‘wealth’ means in `amal, good deeds. Too many people are praising Allah, fasting, and so many good deeds are being done, but you will be better than all of them by bringing one person to Islam, so (you Spanish mureeds), be happy and smile! (...) So those who did not bring anyone to Islam, how do they want to guarantee their Paradise? There are three issues through which that you can guarantee it, as the Prophet (s) said:

ينقطع عمل ابن ادم الا من ثلاث: صدقه جاريه; علم ينتفع به; ولد صالح يدعوا له

Yanqati` `amal ibn ’Adam illa min thalath: sadaqatun jaariya wa `ilmun yantafi`u bih wa waladun saalihun yada`u lah.

The deeds of the Children of Sayyidina Adam are cut except three: a flowing donation in Allah’s Way, and some knowledge that you leave behind (that benefits people) and a child who prays for you.

Your `amal will stop, at a certain time it is going to stop, which means death, so then there are no more `amal except three will still be running as Sadaqah Jaariya. First is if you put one brick in a masjid by donating to it or increasing its value [through improvements/repairs], that will be written for you non-stop as if every moment you are putting that brick in a masjid, as a sadaqah until the Day of Judgement! That cannot be rejected, because as Prophet (s) said, Sadaqah Jaariya, the a flowing donation keeps running non-stop and every moment it is rewarded! Second in this category is wa `ilmun yantafi`u, you leave behind knowledge that people can benefit from, which means you have written a manuscript; for example, if these big scholars of madhaahib didn’t write and leave books for us, how we would be following these madhaaibs Hanafi or Maliki or Shafi`ee or Hanbali? How will we be able if they didn’t leave these manuscripts? You Pakistanis are Hanafi, you Maghribi are Maliki, Arabs are mostly Shafi`ee or Hanbali. If they didn't leave books for us, how we would have known? Because they were the best of imams of best of minds from near the time of Prophet (s). Who would have known? They left knowledge behind, not like they say today, “Oh, don't read books!” Why don't read books? What should you read? What do you read? You read books to learn, because if you don't learn why are these books on shelves? And they tell you, “Go learn Fiqh,” and there are thousands of books on Fiqh.

You need to learn, like we went to Sirhind, to the maqaam of Sayyidina Faruq al-Sirhindi (q) and there were a lot of manuscripts from his time, from a thousand years ago or maybe from 800 or 900 years ago, and how much we benefitted from his books. That’s why the Prophet (s) said, wa `ilmun yantafi`u, knowledge that they will benefit from.

The third form of Sadaqah Jaariya is wa waladun saalihun yada`u lah, you leave behind a child who prays for you, which means you raise your family on real imaan and Islam, as Prophet (s) said. It means you leave behind a son or a daughter that will pray for Allah to save you from Hellfire and always that boy or girl is praying for their father or mother. You leave someone like that so their du`a will not be rejected, as how will Allah reject someone whose son is saying, “Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem.” We have to always say, “Bismillah, shukran lillah, astaghfirullah.” You have to say shukran that at least we found this small building, at least you found a place to sit and stay and learn and be part of a teaching! You cannot conquer the world and you are not after that, but disseminating this knowledge and enlightening people about a knowledge that can save you from this dunya all the way to Akhirah!

May Allah forgive us and bless us, and we say thank you, yaa Rabbee, yaa Allah, for this building! We didn't open yet, but maybe we can open in one or two months.

Bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
