(Brief Suhbah after Performance)
(Mawlana Shaykh Hisham’s remarks begin at 21:00 in video.)
As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh!
I will speak only for five minutes. I am very happy tonight, because all this angelic power was manifested on us this night. Your presence here is a presence of Heaven, because of the nice voices and nice music that has taken place just now. (Applause.)
This is a country that has been granted by Allah (swt) to the people of this land. This is a country of multi-culture, multi different people living in Spain and specially in Granada! (Applause.) Since I was a child, I was thinking one day I was going to visit this city. They say, ‘Alhambra,’ means in Arabic “al-hamra.” I thought everything is red, this is the meaning. I said that everyone has a heart pumping blood red for the safety of this country and the world!
This land is the land that carries Muslims, Christians, Jews and many other different beliefs. It describes the body of a human being. The body of a human being is consisting of cells and in our body at least between three billion or three trillion cells or more, and every six months they rejuvenate, and you people of Spain and Granada are rejuvenating every time to a better and better, better life! (Applause)
The three main religions are found here, like the mind, body and spirit. Without a mind the body doesn’t work, the body without a mind doesn’t work and the soul without the two doesn’t work. So life consists of three: the soul, the body and the mind, and you in Granada and in Spain, you represent Allah’s Divine Presence in the three religions: you represent the mind, the body and the soul!
This music is a baraah, an example of movement. These words are an example of movement. When you say, “Allah,” or say, “Muhammad,” or say, “Jesus” or “Moses,” it doesn’t stop, it continues to the end of the day or to the end of the life. If someone has a capacity of hearing he can hear, “Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah,” because energy doesn’t die and voice is energy.
This energy that is in us makes our bodies move in every moment like music. This One that is making that energy, angels move with that energy and it is said in our tradition, “Inna li-Llaahi mala`ikatun yatufoona fi't-turooqaat yaltamisoona ahla’dh-dhikr.” There are angels, Allah/God has a special group of angels that move or they circumambulate the streets, trying to find people sitting like this, remembering God, remembering the prophets, remembering their country, remembering their Granada, remembering their culture. They sit with them and they sing with them and they give them power.
These constellations, these stars that we see, in our galaxy 80 billion stars, every star is bigger than the solar system that we live in! They move; some move, some they stop, and the whole galaxy is moving toward nowhere, we don’t know to where it it is moving. Scientists say it is moving at 300 km per second, at the speed of light. This galaxy is moving in a vacuum. Where is that vacuum taking us? Since the great Big Bang, this galaxy is moving. To where is it moving? Where we are going? Think about it. We are going to somewhere that God will be pleased with us.
So there are saints, because our solar system is moving also, so saints spread themselves in different countries and the most saints came from this country, from Andalusia. In Islamic history most of our saints came from here, and one of them is Muhiyuddin Ibn `Arabi (q). He wrote books that we cannot understand; the pen froze when you want to write analysis of his books, the tongue cannot express, the eye cannot see light coming from his books, because of what? Because of this country, Granada, Murcia, Seville.
I want to say something. I visited today Alhambra and I saw these palaces and the churches and on these Arabic calligraphy that are written verses of Holy Qur’an and different things, it shows how much these kings from different beliefs that they were trying to show the culture that they left to us from them. And to take an example in our lives, to be good citizens in the countries that you are in and good servants for our Lord.
May God bless you all. May God bless everyone, and bless all these musicians, especially from Morocco, which I visited like ten times, and all the other musicians. Thank you very much, and especially `Ali. We hope to see you next time! Thank you. As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh!
