A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.
As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Sometimes, not only me but speakers giving a speech, they don’t know what kind of speech they have to give. They begin to write and scratch on paper and then throw the paper and then write again until it becomes perfect. They spend hours and hours in order for it to become very clear. Think in your mind that Allah revealed the Holy Qur’an Sayyid Rasoolullah (s) perfect, without any repetition, and every letter carries the reality of something, not like authors who write and write and throw it away, no! It comes perfect and it stays perfect, not for one time but for all time.
Allah (swt) said in Holy Qur'an:
أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ الرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِي الأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ
Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.
Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)
When He says, “Atee`oollah, obey Allah,” and you recite it, what is the real meaning? Every word of Holy Qur'an carries its secrets and with every word of Holy Qur'an, Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, said when you say, “atee`oollah” all the orders, meanings and secrets that are in it Allah will dress on that person because Allah's Words are alive! I don't like to say we are sinning, but we are not giving the rights of the Holy Qur'an, we recite quickly and pass through its pages, but with reciting this ayah Allah will dress you as if you have obeyed, worshipped and completed all that Allah asks of us!
Atee`oollah, obey Allah, means every `amal that Allah ordered us to do is hidden in that word. In the old times, sultans, kings issued a decree that citizens must follow certain procedures in order to obey him, and it was documented in hundreds of pages as every country has a constitution that might be 5000 pages long, and to explain those pages you need lawyers. What do you think about Allah's Words and orders? The Holy Qur'an is the constitution of the Muslims, so all the secrets of obeying Allah with their interpretations, Allah will reward you with that when you recite “atee`oollah” and “atee`oo 'r-Rasool.” Then anything that was narrated from the Prophet (s) in any kind of Hadith, whether strong or not not, and whatever scholars memorized of Ahadeeth[1], when you recite “atee`oo 'r-Rasool,” it is as if you read and accepted all Hadiths and you will be rewarded as Allah (swt) said:
وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا
Leave what Prophet (s) forbade and take what he ordered. (Surat al-Hashr, 59:7)
Whatever the Prophet (s) has brought, take it and whatever he has forbidden, stop it, and even if your nafs doesn’t like to do them, by reading that ayah it is as if you did them.
Wa ooli 'l-amri minkum, “and [obey] those in charge of your affairs,” the Awliyaullah, although a normal interpretation is “government officials.” Allah (swt) said:
Among the Believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah: of them some have fulfilled their vow, and some (still) wait, but they have never changed (their determination) in the least. (Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:23)
“Men who kept the covenant with their Lord, some of them are alive and some of them have passed away[2], and they did not change in the least and those who are in authority among you.”
The Prophet (s) said:
انما بعثت لاتمم مكارم الاخلاق
Innamaa bu`ithtu li utammimu makaarim al-akhlaaq.
I have been sent to perfect the best of conduct (your behavior and character). (Bazzaar)
That is something within you, what no one sees but you, you carry it with its realities, and the Awliyaullah have to give to their mureeds, so when you recite that it will be as if you reached `Ilm al-Yaqeen, `Ayn al-Yaqeen, Haqq al-Yaqeen, Knowledge of Certainty, Vision of Certainty, Reality of Certainty. You will be dressed with that and you will have knowledge that others don’t have and you will have the Eye of Certainty, seeing what no one else can see, and Haqq al-Yaqeen, they will open to you to go to Allah's Divine Presence.
Before that level, now if you want to reach Divine Presence there is a big struggle with the ego, like when Sayyidina Bayazid al-Bistami (q) was asking to reach Allah with a big struggle and Allah (swt) said:
فَفِرُّوا إِلَى اللَّهِ
Run to Allah (from all that is false and evil)! (Surat adh-Dhaariyaat, 51:50)
There is no one to run to but Him, by guidance of the Prophet (s) and Inheritors of the Prophet (s). Fa-firroo ila ‘Llah innee lakum minhu nadheerun mubeen, when you run to Allah faoo ila 'l-kahfi yanshur lakum rabbukum min rahmatihi, run to Allah by running to the cave of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) where you will find the Truth and the Reality! The Prophet (s) is the rahmat. When anyone recites that ayah, atee`oollah wa atee`oo ’r-rasoola wa uli 'l-amri minkum, it is as if he completed the 500 orders as we are obeying Allah through 500 maa’mooraat, and also it is as if you prevented yourself from falling into the 800 manhiyyaat, forbiddens. Then every day when you read it, Allah gives you more and more until you become clean, and you run to Allah and will see what Sayyidina Bayazid al-Bistami (q) saw when he said to Allah, “How do I come to you?” and Allah (swt) said, itruk nafsak wa ta`ala, “Leave your ego and come to me, mujarradan, completely stipped of bad characters.”
Fa-firroo ila ‘Llah: Allah will dress His servant when he runs to Him and that is why in Ramadan most Muslims observe the last ten days in `itikaaf or they go to Mecca and Madinah, which is like fa-firroo ila ‘Llah. In that case, the seclusion is reduced from 40 days to 10 days but will be considered 40 days. If you consider that to be al-hasanaatu bi `asharati amthaalihaa, that Allah rewards the good deeds with ten times the barakah, it becomes like 100 days of seclusion. In addition, 30 days of fasting multiplied by 10 is as if you fasted 300 days, and one who fasts the six days of Shawwal, multiplied by 10 is as if you fasted 60 days, for a total of 360 days, as if you fast the whole year!
That is within the verse “Atee`oollah,” so all that we just mentioned is as if you did it--fasting of a whole year and seclusion of `itikaaf--it contains all that. So if you recite that verse, Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum a hundred times before going to work, that is a reminder to you and will build you up to see what cannot be seen and hear what cannot be heard.
This is a small advice, not a lecture. People come and say, “I need a prayer,” and Allah...will not get upset when you keep asking with persistence, and even you don’t get it, keep asking because inshaa-Allah you will get it in Akhirah, which is better for you. Keep reciting that ayah and Allah will open His endless blessings for you.
May Allah bless the Ummah and take oppression, zhulma and darkness away from our hearts and keep us under the flag of mercy of Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! May Allah grant him the best that He wants from His Prophet and may Allah grant us and reward us to follow in His Prophet’s footsteps, and we are intending to follow him (s) as Allah (swt) said in Holy Qur'an:
قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Say (O Muhammad), "If you (really) love Allah, then follow me! Allah will love you and forgive your sins, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:31)
Bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

[1] For example, Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal memorized 300,000 Hadiths and no scholar today can do that. He also memorized the false Hadiths and when people when asked why, he said, “In order to know the good ones from the false ones.”
[2] According to tasfir of Tabari and Suyuti, the meaning of “some have fulfilled their vow” means those who have died, and “some still wait” means those who are alive. When you die you completed your vow to Allah (swt), and when you’re alive you’re waiting to do that.
