Allah (swt) offered us and Heavens and Earth a trust and asked us and Heavens and Earth to carry it.
نَّا عَرَضْنَا الْأَمَانَةَ عَلَى السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالْجِبَالِ فَأَبَيْنَ أَن يَحْمِلْنَهَا وَأَشْفَقْنَ مِنْهَا وَحَمَلَهَا الْإِنسَانُ
إِنَّهُ كَانَ ظَلُومًا جَهُولًا
Indeed, We offered the Trust to the Heavens and the Earth and the Mountains, but they refused to undertake it, being afraid, but Man undertook it! He proved to be a tyrant and a fool. (Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:72)
Instead of saying like Heavens and Earth, when Allah offered us the Trust we did not say like them, we said, “Yes, we can carry it,” hubb ad-dunya. Heavens said “no,” and they were crying from the bloodshed coming on it. Earth said “no,” but human beings were oppressors to themselves and ignorant, when Allah (swt) said, “They were oppressors to themselves and ignorant,” it means they can never exit from ignorance: all ignorance is in human beings! So hamalaha ’l-insaan, human beings carried it, and so we are still ignorant and we are still carrying that ignorance on our shoulders! Therefore, how can you do something good when you are...everyone is running to get as much dunya as possible and doesn't want to break this box to go to where there are no limitations, which is Akhirah.
Prophet (s) said:
أصحابي كالنجوم بأيهم اقتديتم اهتديتم
My Companions are like stars (on a dark night); whichever of them you follow, you will be guided.
As-haab an-Nabi (r), the Companions of the Prophet (s) are like stars in dark nights, but we have to follow them. People today don't know where to go because they are not following the Companions: bi ayyihim aqtadaytum ahtadaytum, whichever one you follow you will be guided like stars! But who are we listening to? Ourselves. If you give your opinion they don't listen and if you have no opinion no one is going to listen, so you fall into the mistake of following your desires.
Signs of Dajjal’s Appearance
(حديث موقوف) حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الطُّوسِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْفَرَّاءُ اطلرَّازِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ الأَشْعَثِ ، عَنْ جُوَيْبِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّزَّالِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ ، قَامَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ : فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ : " يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ , سَلُونِي قَبْلَ أَنْ تَفْقِدُونِي " , قَالَهَا ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ , فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ صَعْصَعَةُ بْنُ صُوحَانَ الْعَبْدِيُّ , فَقَالَ : يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ! نَبِّئْنَا مَتَى خُرُوجُ الدَّجَّالِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " يَا ابْنَ صُوحَانَ ، اقْعُدْ , عَلِمَ اللَّهُ مَقَالَتَكَ , مَا الْمَسْئُولُ عَنْهَا بِأَعْلَمَ مِنَ السَّائِلِ , وَلَكِنْ لَهَا عَلامَاتٌ وَهَنَاتٌ وَأَشْيَاءُ يَتْلُو بَعْضُهَا بَعْضًا كَحَذْوِ النَّعْلِ بِالنَّعْلِ , وَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْبَأْتُكَ بِعَلامَتِهَا " , قَالَ : عَنْ ذَلِكَ سَأَلْتُكَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ! قَالَ : " اعْقِدْ بِيَدِكَ يَا صَعْصَعَةُ , إِذَا أَمَاتَ النَّاسُ الصَّلاةَ , وَأَضَاعُوا الأَهِلَّةَ , وَاسْتَحَلُّوا الْكَذِبَ , وَأَكَلُوا الرِّبَاءَ , وَأَخَذُوا الرِّشَا , وَشَيَّدُوا الْبِنَاءَ , وَاتَّبَعُوا الأَهْوَاءَ , وَبَاعُوا الدِّينَ بِالدُّنْيَا , وَاسْتَخَفُّوا بِالدِّمَاءِ , وَتَقَطَّعَتِ الأَرْحَامُ , وَصَارَ الْحِلْمُ ضَعْفًا , وَالظُّلْمُ فَرَحًا ، وَالأُمَرَاءُ فَجَرَةً , وَالْوُزَرَاءُ خَوَنَةً , وَعُرَفَاؤُهُمْ ظَلَمَةً , وَقُرَّاؤُهُمْ فَسَقَةً , وَظَهَرَ الْجَوْرُ , وَكَثُرَ الطَّلاقُ , وَمَوْتُ الْفَجْأَةِ , وَقَوْلُ الْبُهْتَانِ , وَحُلِّيَتِ الْمَصَاحِفُ , وَزُخْرِفَتِ الْمَسَاجِدُ , وَطُوِّلَ الْمَنَارُ , وَازْدَحَمَتِ الصُّفُوفُ , وَنُقِضَتِ الْعُهُودُ , وَخُرِّبَتِ الْقُلُوبُ , وَشَارَكَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ زَوْجَهَا فِي التِّجَارَةِ حِرْصًا عَلَى الدُّنْيَا , وَتَرَكَ النِّسَاءُ الْمَيَازِرَ , وَتَشَبَّهْنَ بِالرِّجَالِ , وَتَشَبَّهَ الرِّجَالُ بِالنِّسَاءِ , وَالسَّلامُ لِلْمَعْرِفَةِ , وَالشَّهَادَةُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْتَشْهَدَ , وَلَبِسُوا جُلُودَ الضَّأْنِ عَلَى قُلُوبِ الذِّئَابِ , قُلُوبُهُمْ أَمَرُّ مِنَ الصَّبِرِ , وَأَنْتَنُ مِنَ الْجِيفَةِ , وَالْتَمَسُوا الدُّنْيَا بِعَمَلِ الآخِرَةِ , وَالتَّفَقُّهَ بِغَيْرِ الْمَعْرِفَةِ , فَالنَّجَاءَ فَالنَّجَاءَ , الْوَحَا الْوَحَا , الْحَذَرَ الْحَذَرَ , الْجِدَّ الْجِدَّ يَا صَعْصَعَةُ بْنَ صُوحَانَ , نِعْمَ الْمَسْكَنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بَيْتُ الْمَقْدِسِ , وَلَيَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ يَقُولُ أَحَدُهُمْ : يَا لَيْتَنِي تِبْنَةٌ فِي لَبِنَةٍ فِي سُورِ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ " .
While on the minbar, `Ali ibn Abi Talib (r) praised and glorified Allah, then he said, “O People! Ask me before you lose me, ask me before you lose me, ask me before you lose me!” Upon this, Sa`sa` bin Sawhaan al-`Abdee stood up and said, “O Leader of the Faithful! Inform us of when the Dajjal will come.” He said, “O Ibn Sawhaan, this is Allah’s knowledge; the one asked knows no more than the one asking, but there are signs that will come one after another, like one foot after the other foot. If you like I can inform of the signs.” He said, “That was what I asked of you, O Leader of the Faithful.” He said, “O Sa`sa`, tie your hands together. [The signs are] if people make the prayer to die and lose the Trust that Allah gave them and allow lying and consume usury and take bribes and build high buildings and follow their desires and sell their religion for the dunya and have no value for human life and families ties are broken and there is no forbearance and oppression makes people happy and princes become shameless and government ministers become deceitful and those who work with them become oppressive and their reciters of Qur’an become corrupted and tyranny is everywhere and divorce is common and sudden death becomes common, as does slander, and Qur’ans are ornamented and mosques are decorated and minarets are tall and the rows of prayer are crowded and promises are not kept and hearts are ruined and the woman is a partner with her husband in business for the sake of dunya and women no longer wear skirts and they imitate men and men imitate women, and peace is in true knowledge and the Shahaadah is said before being martyred and they are like sheepskin dressed on the hearts of wolves, their hearts are more bitter than aloes and more putrid than corpses, and people confuse `amal of the Akhirah with the dunya and there is studying of Fiqh without true knowledge, deliverance, deliverance! Safety, safety! Careful, careful! Do more, do more! O Ibn Sawhaan, at that time how happy will the resident of Bayt al-Maqdis be! There will come a time upon people when the individual says,“If only I were a piece of straw in the bricks of Bayt al-Maqdis!” (Ibn al-Munadi and Kanz al-`Ummaal 39709)
Sayyidina `Ali (r) went on the minbar and thanked Allah and praised Him, and said, “Yaa ayyuha ‘n-naas, O Mankind!” which means every human being past, present and future has heard him, because as the Prophet (s) said:
أنا مدينة العلم و علي بابه
I am the City of Knowledge and `Ali is its Door (or Gate). (al-Haakim, Tirmidhi)
When you are in the city, everyone in that city is to take what is inside it, which is through Sayyidina `Ali (r) who is the door for that city, as the Prophet (s) mentioned. Therefore, when he says, “Yaa ayyuha ‘n-naas,” he is addressing every human being! Allah gave that power to the Prophet (s) and the Prophet (s) bequeathed some of this knowledge to his Companions, and one of them was Sayyidina `Ali (r), the doorkeeper of City of Knowledge, so when he addresses, he addresses everyone! The Companions’ Light is everywhere, like the stars. If we have a good heart we would have seen the Light of Sayyidina `Ali (r).
So on the minbar he said, “Ask me before you lose me,” which means, “Ask me about your concerns; don't be concerned about dunya, ask me about Akhirah, how we can go there and what is going to delay you from going there, what you are doing wrong, what is making Ummat an-Nabi not move forward.” Although this is the best Ummah that Allah created of humanity, still they are fighting and struggling with themselves and with each other.
A Sahaabi (r) came and said, yaa ameer al-mu'mineen, yaa Sayyidana `Ali karam-Allahu wajhahu, mataa khurooj ad-Dajjal, “When is Dajjal’s khurooj, coming out?” which means Dajjal is somewhere chained or handcuffed, so he cannot come out. He is asking when he will be released, and they asked about Dajjal from time of the Prophet (s)! Sayyidina `Ali (r) said, fa-qaala ya ibn soohaan iq`ud, “Allah knows what you are asking. You are asking me something that I don't know, but I know the signs. I don't know when the Dajjal, the massih, Anti-Christ, will appear or come, but I know about the Signs and if you ask me about them I will tell you.”
How does Sayyidina `Ali (r) know? For sure, because as we stated above, the Prophet (s) is Madinat al-`Ilm wa `Aliyyun baabuhaa, the Prophet (s) is the City of Knowledge and Sayyidina `Ali (r) is its door.
Sayyidina `Ali (r) said: “I will tell you about its Signs: count on your fingers, on your hand.”
1. First, idha amaat an-naas as-salaat, when people lose their prayers, not only losing their prayer, because losing you can recover. But amaat, as if they made the prayers dead, not existing. Today we are seeing this. That is a sign of when Dajjal will appear: when people don't pray on time or completely don't pray (abandon prayer altogether). Today there are people who pray, but they are not the majority.
2. Second, they left al-ahilla, the Trust, al-Amaanah. You trust someone with something and he betrays you, or you lost the Trust that Allah offered you; when Allah offered it, instead of saying like Heavens and Earth, you accepted it. The Trust is when Allah asked us, “Am I not your Lord?” and we said, “yes,” not in dunya, but before when souls were gathered together. We accepted it instead of saying, “We are weak and cannot,” they accepted the Trust, the Amaanah in dunya and lost it by listening to Shaytan or listening to themselves, which means their bad desires override them now. That is why bad desires override everyone: you try to do good and it takes you to something bad. Now father is against mother, mother against child, brother against sister, there are no familial relationships anymore. It is said from Signs of Last Days that a family will sit at the same table eating and all of them will be enemies to each other. So when people lost prayers and lost the Amaanah, and:
3. They made it halaal to lie and Allah (swt) does not like people to lie.
قال أبو الدرداء وذكر بعضهم قال عبدالله بن جراد يارسول الله هل يزني المؤمن قال قد يكون ذلك قال هل يسرق المؤمن قال قد يكون ذلك قال هل يكذب المؤمن قال لا ثم أتبعها نبي الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : { إنما يفتري الكذب الذين لا يؤمنون بآيات الله } النحل : 105
One time the Sahaabah (r) asked the Prophet (s), “Yaa Rasoolullah! Does the mu’min steal or rob?" The Prophet (s) replied, "Perhaps." They asked, "Does the mu’min make zinaa (adultery)?" The Prophet (s) replied, "Perhaps." Then they asked him, "Does the mu’min lie?" To this the Prophet (s) replied, "This, no!" Then the Prophet (s) followed it by (reciting), “Only they invent falsehood who believe not Allah's Revelations, and (only) they are the liars.” [Surat al-Nahl, 16:105] (Kanzu ’l-`Ummal, 8994)
When the Prophet (s) when was asked, “Does a mu'min steal, rob?” he said, “If he is hungry he might steal to eat something.” And they asked, “Does a mu’min commit adultery (although he prays and fasts but he was tricked for certain reason)? Prophet (s) said, “Might be.” And they asked, “Does a mu’min lie?” and to this Prophet (s) said, “No, a mu’min does not lie.” Prophet (s) considered lying a very heavy sin, he did not accept that a mu’min will lie! Show me today who does not lie, all of us are lying: we lost our prayers, we made them dead, as if they don't exist and we lost the Trust and we began to lie: wastahall al-kadhib, “they made lying like halaal.” Allahu Akbar. Allahu Akbar. When you make everything, lies halaal it means you can cheat everyone and guide them to Jahannam with your lies!
Politics is based on lies. I know one famous politician whose father was a prime minister, ans he came to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) asking for his du`a to be elected a Member of Parliament and Mawlana said, “Are you a liar?” He said, “No.” Mawlana said, “”Tthen you cannot be a Member of Parliament!” We all became politicians: we were lying when we accepted the Amaanah, when Allah (swt) asked us, alastu bi rabbikum, “Am I not your Lord?” and qaaloo bala, we said, “Yes! We accept Shahadah and prayer and fasting and Zakaat and Hajj.” Who is doing that? Allah does not like that (lying).
4. They ate ribaa’, which is usury in big amounts (over-inflation): ribaa is not like interest; interest is usury but at a very low level. We don't want to go deep in this subject, but for example, they take a half-percent (to service your account), then it is better to give them their money. However, in that time usury was when someone loans you 100 Dinars but on the condition that you repay them 200 or 300 Dinars the following year, or if you have no money you give them your child or your wife, which is extreme.
5. Bribery (rishwaa) becomes common: When everything is completed through bribery, giving ‘under the table,’ not in this country but in many countries around the world nothing moves except through bribery, when you pay something under table and in five minutes your papers are signed.
6. They build high-rises, wa shayyidu ‘l-binaa.
7. They follow their desires, ittaba`u l-ahwaa.
Is this not what we are seeing today? These are the Signs of the Last Days that Sayyidina `Ali (r) mentioned will all pass before the Anti-Messiah comes out.
Inshaa-Allah I will continue that Hadith later, now it is Maghrib time. We will see what topics they guide us to speak about in Ramadan. Inshaa-Allah we will be able to manage although the tajalli in this era is heavy on all of us and people are not happy, dunya is falling apart, and Signs of Last Days are appearing. I will continue this in another session as it is long.
