Fajr Suhbah

[On video, suhbah starts at 1:01:50]

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa ashabihi ajma`een.

Wa man tabia`ahum bi ihsaanin ila yawmi ‘d-deen.... Laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billahi 'l-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem. Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi, yaa Sultan al-Anbiyaa. Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi, yaa Sultan al-Awliya. Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi, yaa Qutb al-Mutasarrif. Madad yaa Rijaalullah. Tariqatan as-suhbah wa khayru fi ‘l jami`ah.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. May Allah make us happy and good ones, and make our iman strong. He is the Best of Support. Hal min khaaliqin ghayrullahi yarzuqukum. “Is there a creator other than Allah that provides for you?” We say that is true, but in our hearts are so many doubts.

Begin to See with Allah's Light

Allah is ar-Razzaq, The Provider, and people are a means on which He bestows stations, grants, and favors, but in the end Allah is The Provider of All. May Allah make us strong Believers in Him (swt) and His Beautiful Names and Attributes, through which He has described Himself in Holy Qur’an. That is what we are trying to do, by being with a grandshaykh, shaykh, or a teacher, a wali or `alim. When we read from the teachings of as-Salaf as-Saalih, we are trying to learn iman to become stronger; it is not that we know something, it is to strengthen our iman. Why?

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) is saying, “So that you can begin to see with Allah's Noor.” He says the real teachers, not like us, but the real ones--a real shaykh, real awliya, real saints, a real prophet, not fake ones like us--the rank of the real shuyookh is that when they look at any human being they know if they are from Ahl as-Sa`adah, the People of Happiness, or from Ahl as-Shaqaawah, the People of Wretchedness. That is why it is scary to go in front of a real shakh. You must be cautious, afraid even, because when he looks at you he knows who you are, you can’t pretend to be something else. Nowadays they come to the shaykh with big turbans, big books, big beards, in humility, but the shaykh knows you inside and out. So when you come before a real wali, you have to come with adab and hope that Allah, as-Sattar, will cover your faults in front of him.

Rasoolullah (s) said Allah (swt) will veil His servants on Judgment Day for those whom He loves. That is His Siffat as-Sattar, His Quality “Covering the Faults”. So the real shaykh will look at you and know if you are from the people of a`adat, happiness, or from the people of ash-shaqaawah, punishment, because according to Holy Ahadeeth, and shuyookh don't go outside of Qur’an or Hadith, they see with the Light of Allah (swt).

Rasoolullah (s) said: ittaqu fi rasat il-mu’min fa innahu bi yandhuroo bi noorillah, “Be wary from the power of the mu’min to see beyond,” meaning beyond what you portray. He sees inside you, with Light of Allah (swt). When a grandshaykh looks at a human being, they know their level of iman, if they have weak or strong iman. They also know your Covenant with Allah (swt), what you promised Him on the Day of Promises, and they know who are the general population of the Ummah and who are the elite carrying sainthood from Allah (swt). When someone comes in his presence or her presence, as there are lady saints, that grandshaykh knows your agreement with Allah (swt), what kind of sainthood Allah (swt) gave you, who is Sayyidina Khidr (a), and the Rijaal al-Ghayb, Hidden Ones: angels, spiritual beings who come to the shaykh sometimes in the form of human beings, as Jibreel (a) came to the Prophet (s) in the form of a human being and asked him (s) the three questions: what is Islam, what is Imaan, what is Ihsaan?

Honor Among Awliya and Being With Your True Shaykh

Many people come to the shaykh and say, “O Master! We want antasib, to take baya` and join your jama`ah.” The Saahib al-Kashf, the one who has no veils in front of him, will know if you are from his followers or not, as he took responsibility for you on the Day of Promises when Allah brought our souls in front of Him before we came to this world. Grandshaykh is saying Allah (swt) has assigned you a guardian who are Awliyaullah. They will know if you have taken istilaam--when you receive the merchandise, you accept delivery and sign for it--that Wali will know if you are from his followers or not, if Allah (swt) and Rasoolullah (s) gave you to him on that Day, not only in this world. So when some people come to take baya`, Grandshaykh knows if you are his or not. If you are his, he will take you, and if you truly become a mureed he will take you to your Agreement (Trust, Amaanat) with Allah (swt). If you are not hi mureed, he will take you and when the times comes he will send you to your shaykh, as he must. If the saint gazes upon the mureed of another saint to attract him or her, and tries to take them as his own, it is as if he looked at a strange (forbidden) woman or man. It is not allowed: Awliya can only care for the one he took responsibility for on the Day of Promises.

Today the shaykhs keep everyone as they are not True Ones who will send you to your rightful shaykh, so you will never know who your shaykh is until your shaykh tells you, because you have to be at the level of your shaykh to see your Agreement. Sayyidina Bayazid al-Bistami (q) went to ninety-nine shaykhs, each of whom brought him up to a certain level and then said, “O my son, you you must go.” Each one told him to go to the next one, until he found Sayyidina Jafar as-Sadiq (q), who was able to deliver that. Why? Because a mureed can be higher than his shaykh, but not higher than his true shaykh. So when you pass your shaykh with your drive, your worship, that shaykh cannot supervise you any more, then you need a supervisor to keep you in control. When Sayyidina Jafar surpassed his shaykhs, they said, “I cannot take care of you any more, go to the next one,” because above every knower is a higher one:

وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِي عِلْمٍ عَلِيمٌ

Above every knower is a (higher) knower. (Surah Yusuf, 12:76)

Sayyidina Bayazid al-Bistami (q) said, “Whatever I sought, my shaykh gave me.” Imagine the power that Sayyidina Jafar (s) was giving, because he is a mirror reflecting the Light of Rasoolullah (s)! Your true shaykh is able to reflect to you from Rasoolullah (s), which the shaykh must do, and the mureed has to be in such clarity that he becomes a reflection of the Light of Rasool (s), as the Prophet (s) said, Beware the mu’min's power to see, do, and give, because he looks with the Light of Allah reflected to him from Rasool (s) from the Divine Presence!

اتقوا فراسة المؤمن فإنه ينظر بنور الله

Beware the vision of the Believer, for he sees with the Light of Allah. (Tirmidhi)

So now we are with Mawlana Shaykh Hisham (q), and we will stay until he says, “O my son, come with me,” or, “O my son, go to that one.” It is the same with my uncle, Shaykh Mehmet. Each shaykh looks after a particular group of the Ummah, and he cannot say, “All of them are mine.” The Wali who looks after the mureeds of other shaykhs are like men looking at strange (forbidden) women. So that is why we are with Shaykh Hisham: we were assigned to be with him at this time. It’s not that we don’t love and respect other Awliyaullah, we do, we kiss their hands and feet, we follow their orders, but at this time we are assigned to be with Shaykh Hisham. When he says, “Go!” we go, and if he says “Stay!” we stay. It’s the same thing with Shaykh Mehmet. Every Wali knows what they do, there is no fawda. For those who often object to Shaykh Hisham, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim said, la yatadaakhal waliyyun bi sha`ni waliyin aakhar, a Wali will not involve himself in the matters, affairs, and work of another Wali. Al-`aalam laysa fawdaa, this world is not lawless, la yatadaakhal, a Wali will not interfere, he will not poke his nose into the affairs of another Wali. So to the ones that don’t know this, learn from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q).

You stay with the one they assigned you to, to do good service. When that shaykh tells you, “My son, it’s time for you to go somewhere else to do more service, to seek more knowledge, to attain your Agreement with Allah,” then you go; otherwise, you stay and serve the master you are with. It’s not chaos; when Allah (swt) wants us to go somewhere, the time will come.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) is saying that Rasoolullah (s) has said...because he asked two things from him, about which he said, “The first one we agreed on, the other one akh-kharnahu li-waqtih, we have delayed until its time.” So there is a time and Rasoolullah (s) knows it. When it is time to enter the service of another shaykh, like Sayyidina Abu Yazid Al-Bistami (q) did, that time will come and you will go, but for now we serve the one we are with. There is no chaos in Islam, everything is perfect, Allah (swt) made everything in its time.

هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن طِينٍ ثُمَّ قَضَىٰ أَجَلًا ۖ وَأَجَلٌ مُّسَمًّى عِندَهُ ۖ

It is He Who created you from clay and then decreed a term and a specific time known to Him.

(Surat al-An`am: 6:2)

Allah (swt) decreed a time, qada ajalan, He created human beings from clay, mud, and decreed for him ajal, a time to come. Wa ajalun, musamman `inda, a time has been prescribed, written, it is known in His Presence. So when that time comes, you will know what to do.

So the shaykh/Wali will not look at another’s mureeds. The minute he looks at any mureed, he knows if that one is from his followers or not, because they accepted delivery of their mureeds on the Day of Promises. May Allah make us serve the shaykh, then fulfill our Agreement, and to look with the Light of Allah’s Divine Presence that reflects from Rasoolullah (s) to grandshaykhs, to our shaykh. With that light you can move and without light we cannot move. May Allah (swt) forgive us.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) is saying each human being must present their service to this world, according to their Agreement with Allah (swt). Each of us has a service to present; inshaa-Allah Allah accept our service to Ummati Muhammad (s).

Who is Included in the Ummah?

Every human being is included in the Ummah of our Master, Sayyidina Muhammad (s), because there is Ummat al-Ijaba and Ummat ad-Daa`wah.

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ

(O Muhammad!) We have sent you not except as a Mercy for all the Worlds. (Surat al-Anbiyaa, 21:107)

Wa maa arsalnaaka illa Rahmatan li 'l-`Alameen. “We have sent you exclusively as Rahmah to all Creation.”

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا كَافَّةً لِّلنَّاسِ

We have not sent you but as a universal (Messenger) to human beings. (Surat Sabaa, 34:28)

So Rasool (s) is Ar-Risaala al-Mutlaqa, The Ultimate, Unrestricted Messenger, as his Message is for everyone, whether they have already accepted it or have yet to accept it. The Message has been given: some of us accepted, some of us are still waiting to accept. May Allah make us serve Rasool (s) as He pleases. Yaa Rabbee, grant us to make good service with our shaykh and help us become better mureeds and better Muslims, inshaa-Allah.

Wa min Allah at-tawfeeq bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
