Grandshaykh AbdAllah ad-Daghestani (q) was told by his shaykh, Sayyidina Shaykh Sharafuddin ad-Daghestani (q): "I advise you and all the mureeds, ikhwan, three things: you should memorize it, you should know it, you should keep it and tell it to others."
"First, whoever has joined our Way, or the one that loves us and we are taking care of them, if you meet any of them, respect them and keep their honor."
All of us sit and talk, talk, talk about this one and that one. But Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, "If you want to keep the advice of Naqshbandi Shuyookh, if someone mentions someone else in front of you, you must keep the honor of that person. Don't say something that will hurt him, his family, his friends or his community.
Second: "I advise the mureed not sit with those who do not believe in Awliyaullah, in Mashaykh, and in Tariqah."
They think that Ahl as-Sufiyyah are not from Ahlul-`Ilm, the People of Knowledge. They say that Awliyaullah are on the wrong way, meaning they don't know anything from Qur'an and Hadith. Grandshaykh AbdAllah is telling us that Shaykh Sharafuddin ad-Daghestani (q) said don't sit with them. Why? If that person with whom you are sitting does not believe in Awliyaullah, his belief or his state will transfer to you like an infection. It will go from one to the next and they will make you like them. Be very cautious!
A man related, "I used to dislike the Sufis. One day I saw Bishr al-Hafiz (one of the great saints) leaving Baghdad. He had a chicken, kabab, cooked meat, and desserts. I said to myself, 'Oh zaahidul-balad, one of the renowned ascetics of the city that has left dunya and his desires behind, where is he going? Let me follow him. Maybe he is going outside the city to enjoy his feast where nobody sees him.'"
He thought this because he had a bad opinion of Sufis. Bishr al-Hafi left on foot after Jumu`ah and the man followed him. At `Asr time they reach a village. He saw Bishr al-Hafi Waliyullah go into a masjid and feed a sick person who sits in the masjid after `Asr. Bishr al-Hafi took the food from his city, Baghdad, reached this village and masjid, and was feeding a sick person the food he brought.
The man left Bishr al-Hafi in the masjid, and went out to check out the village, and when he came back he didn't find Bishr al-Hafi.
So he asked the sick man, "Where is Bishr?"
The sick man said, "He went back to Baghdad."
The man did not know what village he was in. He said, "How far away am I from Baghdad?"
The sick man said, "Forty farsakh (120 miles) away."
He thought, "I don't have enough money to pay for a ride and I can't walk anymore."
So he stayed there until the next Friday, when Bishr al-Hafi came again at `Asr time to that sick man, who told Bishr al-Hafi, "Please take this man back to Baghdad with you. He's been sitting here one week."
Angry, Bishr al-Hafi asked the man, "Why did you follow me?"
He said, "I was mistaken."
When he took him back back to Baghdad, they reached very quickly. The man said, "After that I left whatever unnecessary business I was involved in and accompanied Bishr al-Hafi."
He made friends with Awliyaullah. The narrator is saying that there are three wisdoms to take from this story of a Waliullah.
One is that karamaat al-Awliya haqq, the miracles of Awliyaullah are real and true. They can perform miracles. They can move across distances in a very short time. And they can move things with them in a very short time. Bishr al-Hafi was able to move with the man 120 miles from Jumu`ah to Asr, and they reached their destination.
This man who followed Bishr al-Hafi said, “I was mistaken about you and Awliyaullah.” That means he has turned to Allah (swt) and asked forgiveness for his bad thinking of Awliyaullah, and afterwards he followed them.
Some say the knowledge of Awliyaullah is built upon kashf, unveiling. Awliyaullah are a group of human beings for whom the folds, covers, veils have been lifted. They see things as they are, their reality.
And what is the reality of things? All things are simply manifestations of Allah's (swt) Divine Lights. Do you think they are something else? Everything in this world is from the manifestation of Allah's Beautiful Names Attributes. If you think you are something different, then why do you disappear? Then you are not. We are all manifestations of Divine Lights.
So for Awliyaullah, the veils have lifted and everything is laid open for them. They only see anwaaru 'dh-Dhaat wa's-Sifaat wa 'l-Asma wa 'l-af`al, the Lights of the actions of Allah (swt), His Creation, His Will, His Decree, His Destiny, which are the manifestation of Allah's Beautiful Names and Attributes.
Awliyaullah say that others' knowledge is built upon khawaatir fikriyya, thoughts, what Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) called "mind production", ideas that roam in their heads.
The beginning of AwliyaAllah knowledge is based on taqwa and good `amal, knowing that Allah (swt) is watching them: they are aware of Allah (swt) and only do what He likes. The beginning of others' knowledge or way is to read books and take knowledge from other creatures like them. They go to seminars, conferences, and take online courses. Why? Because they want to benefit at the end.
Do you see the difference? The end of Awliyaullah knowledge and their way is to see Allah's (swt) Divine Presence. For the rest, the end of their way is to find a job in the university, a position somewhere to argue. Don't be with people that have taken a way other than Awliyaullah.
[Whoever] follows other than the way of the Believers, We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and it is an evil destination. (Surat an-Nisaa’, 4:115)
The one who follows other than the path of true Mu`mins who follow Rasulullah (s) will be left to go on the path they are on. May Allah (swt) forgive us. That’s why we are on the threshold of Awliyaullah, to learn from them and they will reach us. They will always rescue us if we do something wrong.
If you are connected with Awliyaullah, they will always reach you and correct you. You don’t have to read about it; you will feel in your heart whenever you have gone far from Allah (swt), and when you do something good, you feel closer to Him.
