Grandshaykh `AbdAllah (q) Had Two 'Sons'

Shaykh Nour Mohamad Kabbani

7 December 2024 Fenton, Michigan USA

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem.

Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Madad. Dastoor, yaa Sayyidina. Yaa RijaalAlah.

...adab to Sahaaba Ikram (r). He said, you have to recognize the ones who came before you. You have to recognize their reaching there to that Qutb, to that Wali, to that Nabi before you. Asta`eedhubillah.

Wa saabiqoona ‘l-awaloon mina ‘l-muhajireena wa ‘l-ansar…

The vanguard (of Islam)- the first of those who forsook (their homes) and of those who gave them aid, and (also) those who follow them in (all) good deeds,- well- pleased is Allah with them, as are they with Him: for them hath He prepared gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell therein for ever: that is the supreme felicity. (Surat at-Tawba, 9:100)

The ones who have reached before you and in the beginning. They have come before you, O the latecomers. They have come before you from the beginning. Sabaqah means when you are racing and you reach first. I don’t know if there’s something in English like that. Sayyidina Siddiq (r), Sayyidina Farooq (r), Sayyidina Uthman (r) al-ashara wa ‘l-mubasharah, Sa’at (r), Sa’eed (r), Talha (r), Zubayr (s), Abdur Rahman (r), Abu Ubaydah (r), Abu Bakr (r), Umar (r), Uthman (r), Ali (r). Ten. They reached before you.

I came in 2017. Shaykh Abdul Haqq has been here since the 1800s. I’m sorry, since 1990 in Michigan. You have to always acknowledge the senior ones, the ones who reached your shaykh before you. You are the new kid on the block. Your name just appeared five or six years ago. Their name was way before that. They have plowed the earth when you were still bottle feeding, when you were still a thought. You have to especially recognize the elder ones who gave their lives in the way of Allah (swt), the way of Rasoolullah (s). That’s why I ask permission from Shaykh Abdal Haqq and Sayyidi Shaykh Ahsan and Imam Sahib. He was with my dad in London, England in 1992. I saw you there and you were cheating with the du`a. [Imam Sahib: And you were racing me too and cutting me off.] I was 17 or 18 and he was the same age. This was back then but he was with Mawlana more.

You have to recognize the senior mureeds and acknowledge them. You have to love and respect the friends of your father. That is the Sunnah of Rasoolullah (s) and his advice. Whoever your father has taken as beloved ones and friends, you have to take them the same. Never have them as enemies. If you do, you are on the wrong path. You are following your shaytan.

Tariqah teaches adab. The Qur’an teaches adab. Qur’anu ‘l-Kareem is your Jibreel. It is said that Allah (swt) supported Rasoolullah (s) with Jibreel (a) and he supported every Waliullah with the Qur’an. So, the Qur’an is your Jibreel and it is basically what Jibreel (a) brought down.

For Waliyullah, the Qur’an is the messenger from the Heavens to his heart. Rasoolullah (s) represents the heart. `Arsh represents the heart of the universes. Rasoolullah (s) represents the heart of all creation. Everything comes to him and from him it pumps out to all your limbs, organs, fingers and the brain. The heart is the source of all life as Rasoolullah (s) is the source of all life.

The Qur’an is your Jibreel. The Qur’an is the messenger that has come from the Heavens. Wa ‘s-sabiqoona ‘l-awaloon. Allah (swt) teaches adab. The ones who have reached first, the ones who preceded you, mina ‘l-muhajireena wa ‘l-ansar wa ‘l-ladhina taba’oohum, and the ones who have followed him. You have so many Sahaabah Ikram (r) who got their `ilm from the grand Sahaabah. It is said that Sayyidina AbdAllah ibn Abbas (r) used to come in the majlis of Sayyidina `Umar (r) with all the great Sahaabah and he used to sit next to him. He was still young compared to the others. Many Sahaabah Ikram took most of their knowledge from the grand Sahaabah and we are the same.

If you came ten years ago or five years ago, it doesn’t matter. They came 30 years ago. Mawlana Shaykh Hisham (q) came in the 1950s to Grandshaykh (q). He was either 10 or 12. Who reached Grandshaykh at that time? No one did before and no one did now. You have to keep the adab of the Qur’an. Unfortunately, we don’t know the adab of the Qur’an. That’s why Rasoolullah (s) said: adabani Rabbee. “Allah (swt) has taught me the best of adab.” What happens when you learn adab? You become very good mannered, right? That’s why Allah (swt) said, you have succeeded. You have passed with high grades. Innaka `alaa khulluqin `azheem.

وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ

And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character. (Surat al-Qalam, 68:4)

What I have taught you, you have taken it a hundred percent and you have attained such high moral excellence to Rasoolullah (s). The best student and the best teacher. Allama ‘l-Qur’an. He teaches the Qur’an. The Qur’an is your way. If you ask, “What is the way of Waliyullah?” It is the Qur’an. If you think the way of Waliyullah is other than the Qur’an, you are wrong. If you want to become Waliyullah, you have to learn Arabic first, then you have to understand the meanings of the Qur’an as Awliyaullah explain it, not as we explain it to ourselves. Be on that way, be on the way of knowing, learning and understanding the Holy Qur’an. If you do then you will become Waliyullah, otherwise find a Waliyullah that you love. That is the shortcut.

When I see Shaykh Abdul Haqq, I keep my adab. May Allah (swt) give him strength and Shaykh Ahsan as well and Shaykh AbdAllah over there, the senior mureeds. May Allah (swt) keep you all strong. Do what Mawlana ordered you to do. If you didn’t ask you to do anything, no problem. If he put you somewhere and told you to do something, try to fulfill your promise to him. Don’t give into your desires. Follow what he said and do your best for Awliyaullah.

Everybody knows this but your `amal will stop except if one of your four children continues for you. What are your four children? Awliyaullah have said the first child is born out of your wealth, your money or what your money gave birth to. That child will be thawab for you until Judgment Day. That child born out of money is the dergah. Mawlana established this. That child born out of your money is masajid, bridges, schools, hospitals, waterwells. That will stay for you. How many did Mawlana do? He did it and he showed the way how to do it and he made it so easy for you to do. His `amal is not cut off. As long as every center that he established continues like the one in Montreal, the one in England, the one here, the one in Dallas, the in LA, that thawab will be given to our Shaykh.

Why don’t you continue that? Why don’t you say, “I want to thank my Shaykh. I want to show my gratitude to my Shaykh? I will let the places that he established continue because the thawab will come to him.” What greater gift is there? I heard from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) that every gift you send to those who have passed away come on trays of gold to the deceased and it will be said, “This is the gift of such and such to you.”

There was a lady whose husband died. The neighbor saw the husband in a dream. Under his bed there was noor, light. She came to his wife and said, “I saw your husband in your room and under the bed there was light coming up.” She said, “I just finished khatmu ‘l-Qur’an last night and I put it back in the box.” That noor was coming to him because it was his house.

Anything that you do, the deceased (we say “deceased” in order to understand) will receive it in their graves and in the Hereafter. Continue your center. Try your best. That `amal will continue and the thawab will be given to you of course, to the ones who are helping and it will come to Mawlana too. That is the child born out of money.

The second child is the child born out of `aql, the mind. What is that? `Ilm written in books, `ilm that is beneficial, not the knowledge of ants, flies, elephants and alligators, no. The `ilm of Shari`ah, of Qur’an, of Sunnah and such. How many books did Mawlana write? Endless. I can’t put a number to it. Every time a book benefits us, that thawab will come to him. What do you need to do? Spread the knowledge he has given to you, whether into your heart, your mind or a book. You will benefit and he will receive that thawab through you. That is how you thank him.

His first child, no, don’t look at me. His first child was his `aql, his `ilm that was put into books to benefit others. He is receiving that thawab. The second was the money he used to establish centers and places of worship and water wells and so forth.

The third is what was born out of the nafs, the lower spirit and that is the children: me, Omar, Nazem. That is the Hadith. If you leave behind a child who prays for you, that will also come your way. Alhamdulillah, he made us love this Way and we are continuing to love this Way. With the little things we do we are showing our gratitude to him for raising us up. The thawab of our `ibaadah will go to him as well.

The fourth child is born out of ruh, the spirit. These are the true children. They are the ones he put into discipline, that he ran through the tarbiya to make them perfect ones. Excuse me but I don’t know of any perfect one, not even myself but they know. They might have given somebody that tarbiya, that full discipline of how to reach the Divine Presence that you don’t know of. He might be Uwaysi, far away. They might have made that one a perfect Wali. As long as that perfect Wali is alive, the thawab is coming to him.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) left behind a perfect Wali. Every perfect Wali who leaves behind a perfect Wali, the work of that Wali will go to the scroll of the teacher. All the work of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), whatever he has done, goes to the scroll of his master. The work of his master, Shaykh `AbdAllah ad-Daghestani (q) will be written onto the scroll of Shaykh Sharafuddin (q). It’s his `amal because it is his child. It will go all the way to Rasoolullah (s).

I heard from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) that on the Day of Judgement, Rasoolullah (s) will come in front of Allah (swt) and he will say, “Yaa Rabbee. Whatever You have given me from Azal to Abad I give it all to my Ummah.” All the work of Awliyaullah, all their worship for all their lives is basically a sacrifice for the Ummah. All the `ibaadah they do, all the hardships they go through is written on the scrolls of their masters all the way to Rasoolullah (s) and at the end, Rasoolullah (s) will say in front of Allah (swt), “Yaa Rabbee. This is for my Ummah. I am coming to You with nothing. I don’t depend on my `amal. I depend on Your Rahmah.”

Look at how Awliyaullah work. Do you think Waliyullah is somebody who is going to tower over you? Do you think Waliyullah is somebody who will order you around and make you a servant for his needs? No, you should not think like that. A true Waliyullah is somebody who is sacrificing his life with his worship, with his thawab, everything he is getting will be written for his spiritual father. That is the child given by the soul. The soul has given birth to a spiritual child who is another saint.

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham (q) completed all four. He has four children physically and four real children, the real ones. May Allah (swt) keep us on their way. Know that if you are trying to be Waliyullah, you are not trying to elevate above others. You are trying to give everything to others. Didn’t they give everything to others, shaykh? True Waliyullah give everything to others.

One smart one came to a Waliyullah and he said, “What happens if you don’t have food?”

He said, “When we don’t have food, we are patient. When we have food, we are thankful.”

“That’s what dogs do. When the dogs and cats don’t have food, they are patient. When they find food, they are thankful. How about you?”

“If we don’t find food, we are patient but if we find food, we give it to others. We don’t eat it ourselves.”

Awliyaullah are the ones who prefer others over themselves even if they are in so much in need of it. Wa man yuqa shuha nafsihi fa ula’ika hummul muflihoon.

But those who before them, had homes (in Medina) and had adopted the Faith,- show their affection to such as came to them for refuge, and entertain no desire in their hearts for things given to the (latter), but give them preference over themselves, even though poverty was their (own lot). And those saved from the covetousness of their own souls,- they are the ones that achieve prosperity. (Surat al-Hashr, 59:9)

The one who is protected from the stinginess of himself, they are the successful ones. If the stinginess of yourself keeps you from giving, you are not successful. You are not muflih. You are not from the ones that the Qur’an was sent as Huda. We read the five ayahs of Surah Al-Baqarah and at the end it says, ula’ika alaa hudan mir Rabbihim. They are on guidance from their Lord. wa ula’ika hummul muflihoon. They are the successful ones.

If you don’t give to others, if you don’t prefer others then you are not from the successful ones. Awliyaullah prefer others over themselves. Don’t be like the ones who want everything for themselves and deprive others of everything. That is called selfishness. This is all adabu ‘l-Qur’an and it is taught by Awliyaullah, not by their words but by their actions. They say, a picture is worth a thousand words. What you do is worth more than you talk. That is haal, the state. Not al-qeel wa ‘l-qaal, “I said. He said. She said. They said. We said.” What is your state? What do you do? What are you?

Awliyaullah teach by haal, by their state and that state passes over to the next spiritual child, the Waliyullah. He will take on the state of his Shaykh. Look around. Who has the state of Shaykh Hisham? Shaykh Abdal Haqq. Okay, Shaykh Ahsan. Okay, Shaykh Nour. Okay, Shaykh Meziane. We cannot reach that state. That state that they are in is very special but you can try. Try your best. Inshaa-Allah, we can stay on their footsteps and continue their way. inshaa-Allah (swt), we can continue what they have built and that will be our thankfulness to them. inshaa-Allah, we can propagate their knowledge and that will be our thankfulness and gratitude to them. Inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) will allow us to serve them to the best of our capacity, to serve Awliyaullah. Awliyaullah are the mirrors of Rasoolullah (s).

علماء أمتي كأنبياء بني إسرائيل

`Ulama Ummati ka anbiya Bani Israeel.

The `ulama of my Ummah are like the prophets of Bani Israel.

They are not prophets but their knowledge has reached that level because of the knowledge of Rasoolullah (s). Rasoolullah (s) opens and gives. Inshaa-Allah, we can grab from that knowledge. May Allah (swt) always allow our Shaykh to gaze upon us and he does not leave us to our selfish egos.

I was planning to say this Hadith tomorrow. He said, laa tahasadu wa laa tanajashu wa laa tabaghadu wa laa tadhabaru. Don’t be jealous of each other, wishing that the ni`mah that is on him goes away. Don’t be jealous of each other, wishing what goodness he has or she has goes away. Don’t get angry at each other and hate each other. Don’t turn your backs upon each other.

This is the adab that Rasoolullah (s) is teaching the Ummah. Look nowadays, people are hating each other, people are turning away from each other, people are jealous of each other. How is this a state of Waliyullah? May Allah (swt) forgive us. Always see yourself low and see the others as high and you will succeed. If you see yourself high and the others low, you have taken the character of Shaytan. You have become a Shaytan yourself. See yourself humble and everybody else, mashaa-Allah, has big maqams. You will be safe from Shaytan and the ego. Inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) make us safe from them.

May Allah (swt) give you all that you wish you for. We wish for mahabbatu ‘Llah, mahabbatu ‘r-Rasool (s), mahabbatu ‘l-Awliya. We wish for the mahabbah of Allah (swt), the mahabbah of Rasoolullah (s) and the mahabbah of Awliyaullah. Love them and you will be with them. Inshaa-Allah, we can all be with them. Inshaa-Allah, this is enough.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

Shaykh Abdul Haqq Sazonoff

Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. Thumma A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem.

Let me say a few words. Sayyidina Musa (a) was going every time to Mt. Sinai to speak with Allah (swt). When people knew he was going to Mt. Sinai to speak, it was like someone going for Hajj and they say, “Pray for us.” Or if they’re going to visit a Wali, “Pray for us. Ask something for us.”

People used to catch him and say, “When you go to Allah (swt), ask something for me.” One person caught Sayyidina Musa (a) and said, “O Musa. Are you going to Mt. Sinai to speak with Allah (swt)?”

“Yes.”

“When you go there, can you ask for something for me?”

“What’s that?”

“I want a cow. I need a cow.”

“Inshaa-Allah.”

Musa (a) went to Mt. Sinai. When he reached the Divine Presence, he forgot everything. He was lost in the Divine Presence until it was time to go. Musa (a) came back to himself and went to leave. Allah (swt) said, “O Musa. Didn’t anyone ask you to ask Me anything?”

“Oh yeah, I forgot. My neighbor is asking for a cow.”

“Very good. O Musa. I am very happy with your neighbor. I am so pleased that I am giving him what he asked for and I’m so happy with his request that I’m giving his neighbor a cow also.”

Musa (a) came back and said to the neighbor and said, “Yes, Allah (swt) accepted. He is sending you a cow and He is so happy that He is sending your neighbor a cow also.”

The neighbor said, “What? If he gets a cow, I don’t want one anymore.”

We ask blessings. May Allah (swt) grant. Mawlana Shaykh (q) was asking for all of us to take something.

Fatiha.
