The Immense Mercy Allah (swt) Granted in Surat al-Fatihah

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

13 April 2012 Lefke, Cyprus

Jumu`ah Khutbah

The Prophet (s) didn't ask for anything from his ummah but for us to love his family and treat them well.

It is said that Surat al-Fatihah was revealed on Jumu`ah day in Mecca as an honor to Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and it came with 70,000 angels as it was revealed by Jibreel (a) to Sayyidina Muhammad (s).

O Believers! O Muslims! Our safety is through the intercession of the Prophet (s) to his ummah and through the intercession of his Ahl al-Bayt; love for them will intercede for you on Judgement Day and in the grave, and that is through the intercession of our Sultan, Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani, may Allah give him long life and pray for him!

It was related that if instead of the Tawrat that has been sent to the Jewish community, they had received the Surat al-Fatihah of the Holy Qur'an, they would never have been Jewish, and if Surat al-Fatihah had been revealed instead of the Injeel, never would the nation of Sayyidina `Isa (a) have lost their way, and if Surat al-Fatihah had been revealed in the Zaboor (Psalms), never would they have been misled and turned into khanzir wa qiradata.

And this is the day of Jumu`ah, a day to make people happy. Any Muslim who recites Surat al-Fatihah will be given as if he has recited the Holy Qur'an from beginning to end. Read Surat al-Fatihah excessively, wherever you are traveling to, coming or going. Just as we said yesterday that we should recite salawaat as much as we can wherever we are going, today we are speaking on the benefits of Surat al-Fatihah. Read it as much as you can for it will be as if you gave a sadaqa for every mu’min and mu’mina, for reading it just one time. What about if you read it ten times or a hundred times? That is Allah (swt)'s Mercy on the ummah of Sayyidina Muhammad (s).

And it is related that when Allah (swt) revealed the Tawraat to Sayyidina Musa (a) it consisted of 1,000 suras, and every sura had 1,000 ayaat. In the Holy Qur'an the longest surah is Surat al-Baqara, which contains about 300 ayaat. There are many tafseers of Surat al-Baqara, which is said to describe the entire heavenly constitution of Muslims.

And Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “O my Lord! How can anyone read that book You revealed to me? Who can read it and who can memorize it? If you spend your whole life trying to finish it, you could not finish, and what about memorizing it?”

Allah (swt) said, “I am sending a book much greater than the Tawraat (in a later nation).

Sayyidina Musa (a) asked, “To whom are you sending that book? If one can finish the book You are sending on me, who are You sending that great book to?”

Allah (swt) answered, “I am going to send that book to the Seal of Messengers, who will come at the End of Time.

Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “How is the ummah of Muhammad going to read it when their lives are going to be so short (as the lifetime of the people in his time were longer)?

Allah (swt) said, “I am going to make it so easy for them that even their children can memorize it.”

Look today at the miracle of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) who said in this hadith that the children of the End of Time are going to memorize it, and today you find children seven, eight or nine years of age are memorizing the Holy Qur'an everywhere around the world!

Sayyidina Musa asked, “How are You going to make it so easy?” The children memorize it much easier, although most adults might not be able to, because they don't have the intelligence and purity of children.

Allah (swt) said, “How many books are there, O Musa? I have revealed 103 holy books: fifty were revealed on Sayyidina Shith (Seth), thirty on Idris (Enoch), twenty on Sayyidina Ibraheem (a), and the Tawrat which I am sending on you, and az-Zaboor (Psalms) I am revealing to Sayyidina Dawud (a) and the Bible (Injeel) to Sayyidina `Isa (a), and I have mentioned every creation that I ever created in these books.” Of all 103 books, one of them is Sayyidina Musa’s, The Old Testament, a book with 1,000 suras and in each sura 1,000 ayaat. And similarly Shith's book with many ayaat, and those of Sayyidina Ibraheem (a) and Sayyidina `Isa (a) also have many ayaat. “And I am going to include all these books in one book, the book of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), the Holy Qur'an, and I am going to put all of them into 114 suras of the Holy Qur'an.”

O Muslims! Look how much Allah (swt) loves us, Ummat an-Nabi (s)! He loves you by directing you to this place and to this Sultan and to this Shaykh al-Mashaykh, Sultan al-Awliya, who taught us in the End Times the love of Sayyidina Muhammad (s)!

Ibn `Arabi (r) describing what the Prophet (s) said:

Allah gave me the power of a brick of gold. I am the brick of gold, I am the structure, and everything from (me is) gold and everyone else is from other elements except one, the Sultan al-Awliya; he is a brick from silver that is facing me.

May Allah give long life to Sultan al-Awliya!

Allah (swt) said, “I am going to put all these holy books into 114 suras and I will divide all these into thirty juza and each juz is divided into seven parts of quarter, half, three-quarters, hizb, then another quarter, another half, and another three-quarters, and then the new juzub. And the meaning of these seven is in Surat al-Fatihah, the “Opening of the Book,” and I will put these secret of Holy Qur'an in these seven ayaat and I am going to put the whole meaning of these ayaat in seven letters.”

Sayyidina Musa (a) asked, “What are these seven letters?”

Allah (swt) said, “These seven letters are the Secret of Creation that I am giving it Sayyidina Muhammad (s) in Surat al-Fatihah.” Of the word “Bismillah,” “bismi” has three letters and “Allah” has four, which makes seven. “Then I gather everything I have put in these seven letters and place them in the ‘alif’ of Surat al-Baqara,” (‘alif’ indicates Allah), and when I say to My servant, ‘Iqraa bismi rabbika alladhee khalaq,’ yaa Musa! That book is without any doubts, whether your community accepts it or not! What I gave to Muhammad (s) I gave; it’s finished and no one can change that.”

That is why we say Allah (swt) gave us everything from His Rahmah. So read it and sit in such associations and learn to see the Greatness Allah (swt) has given us through Prophet (s)!

And we will mention here the last word or hadith the ummah got from Sayyidina Muhammad (s) from the words of prophecy, since we are all falling into this problem, and don’t say we are not:

إن مما أدرك الناس من كلام النبوة إذا لم تستحي فافعل ما شئت

Inna mimmaa adrak an-naas min kalaam an-nuboowata idhaa lam tastahiyy faf`al maa shi't.

From what reached the people from the words of (earlier) prophecy are “If you don't feel shy/ashamed, do whatever you like.” (Narrated by Abu Mas`ood, Bukhari)

It means the one who is not shy is always falling into problems, so leave them alone. It might be me, you or anyone. If you are not going to feel shy or ashamed of yourself, then do whatever you like. And here “whatever you like” means to backbite and spread false rumors, accusing, “He did this and that!” We must repent for that and say, “Yaa Rabbee! We made a mistake,” and then Allah (swt) might forgive us.

And I will recite what Sayyidina `Ali (r) said in Arabic; I will not translate it because it is so eloquent. One time the Sahaabah (r) came to Sayyidina `Ali (r) and challenged him, “Can you recite poetry without preparation?” Who can do that? You have to write it and re-write many times, adding things or taking away. And they said, “Recite a spontaneous poem with no ‘alif’ in it.” Sayyidina `Ali (r) recited a poem from his heart non-stop for one hour! He is the one about whom the Prophet (s) said:

أنا مدينة العلم و علي بابه

Anaa madinatu 'l-`ilmi wa `Aliyyun baabuha.

I am the City of Knowledge and `Ali is it's door. (al-Haakim, Tirmidhi)

I have that poem with no alif , which is too long to read here, but I will recite a different poem:

رأيت ربي بعين قلبي فقلت لا شك أنت أنت

Ra’aaitu rabbee bi `ayni qalbee Fa-qultu la shakka Anta Anta

I saw my Lord with the eye of my heart.

أنت الذي حزت كل أين بحيث لا أين ثَمّ أنت

Anta-ladhee hizta kulla aynin Bi haythu laa ayna thamma Anta

I said, “No doubt it’s You! It’s You!”

فليس للأين منك أين فيعلم الأين أين أنت

Fa laysa li ’l-ayni minka aynun Fa y`alamu al-aynu ayna Anta.

You are the One who encompassed every ‘where’ so that there is no ‘where,’ except You are there!

وليس للوهم فيك وهم فيعلم الوهم أين أنت‎

Wa laysa li ’l-wahmi feeka wahmun Fa y`alamu ’l-wahmu ayna anta

‘Where’ has no ‘where’ in regards to You, for ‘where’ to know where You are?

أحطت علما بكل شيء فكل شيء اراه أنت

Ahatta `ilman bi kulli shayin Fa kullu shayin arāhu Anta.

Nor can imagination imagine You, for imagination to know where You are.

وفي فنائي فنا فنائي وفي فنائي وجدت أنت

Wa fee fana-ee fanaa fanaa’ee Wa fee fanaa’ee wajadtu Anta

Your knowledge encompasses everything so that everything I see is You!

And in my annihilation is the annihilation of my annihilation, and in my annihilation, I found You.

(And in your fana, annihilation, I found you, yaa Sultan al-Awliya!)
