A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.
O mu’mins, O believers, congratulations on Eid! May Allah (swt) make this Eid a blessed time for us, for our families, for our communities, and for the Ummah at large. May Allah (swt) help everybody who is in need. May Allah (swt)’s Mercy reach to all humanity, to rule with justice. May Allah (swt) allow justice to prevail on earth and allow us to be actors of justice, witnesses of justice, performers of justice, inshaa-Allah.
Today is Yawmu ‘l-Eid. Today the Hajjis will go from Mina to Masjidu ‘l-Haram. Others will go to the musallah, so, you’re matching them. We are matching the Hajjis after they move from Mina to Masjidu ‘l-Haram. We are also coming to the musallah, matching their going to the masjid. Also, they will do the tawaf. Rasoolullah (s) has said
at-tawaaf bi ‘l-baitu ‘s-salah, “Tawaf around the House is prayer; with the difference that Allah permitted speaking during it.” (Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud)
Those who are not performing Hajj, we have performed Salatu ‘l-Eid. Whatever the Hajjis are doing today from going to Masjidu ‘l-Haram to doing tawaaf, we are also matching the same kind of rituals by coming to the masjid of Allah (swt), to the musallah, to the prayer halls, to the mosques, to the masajid around the world. We are also doing Salatu ‘l-Eid, matching their tawaaf around the Ka`bah. May Allah (swt) accept their Hajj and may Allah (swt) accept our humble service.
“We were weak, we were ill, we were poor.” People come up with so many excuses that they could not perform Hajj. May Allah (swt) give power, may Allah (swt) give wealth, so the ones who have not gone can go and perform Hajj. It is very important for every young one. Don’t wait until you’re 60 or 70, saying, “I have time,” no. Whenever you have the chance, run to perform that final rukn, that fifth pillar of Islam, which is Hajj. May Allah (swt) give us the Tawfeeq.
Tawfeeq. What is Tawfeeq? Successfulness. Who gives the Tawfeeq? Allah (swt). Who has given the power to the Hajjis that went? Allah (swt). Who has given the wealth to the Hajjis that went? Allah (swt). I heard now it costs over $20,000 to go to Hajj. It’s unheard of. Who gave them that? Allah (swt).
If Allah (swt) gives you successfulness, gives you the power, gives you the wealth to go to Hajj, it is from His Favor. It is from Ni`mtu ‘Lllah. Don’t say, “I went to Hajj. How about you? I went to Umrah. How about you?” Who gave you that success? Allah (swt). Who gave you the power, the money, and the time? Some people are in hospitals, in jail or in courts. Some people are here and there. It is Allah (swt) that has given you free time. Allah (swt) has given you the means to go to Hajj or Umrah.
Idhkur Ni`matu ‘Llah. Mention, remember the Favor of Allah (swt) upon you. It is not because you are a smart one, you made money and you made time, so you're going to Hajj. If you think like that, you have committed shirk al-khafiyy. You have made a partnership with Allah (swt). You have put yourself as rabb. You have put yourself as Razzaq. “I brought my rizq. I, I, I.” Don’t be like that. Our way is to go back, to pull ourselves from seeing ourselves in control and seeing Allah (swt)’s Favor.
Our master said in one of his speeches that Allah (swt) addressed Moses, peace be upon him. He said, Yaa Musa. Habbibu ‘l-`ibaadah ilayya, “O Moses! Make the servants love Me.”
“Yaa Rabbee! How can I make the servants love You and the hearts are in Your Hand?
You cannot make somebody love you. They say, “Shaykh, du`a, du`a. Make du`a that he loves me. Make du`a that she loves me.” It is not in your hands. Love is in the Hand of Allah (swt). Al-quloob bi Yadi ‘Llah. The hearts of human beings are in the Hand of Allah (swt). The hearts of presidents are in the Hands of Allah (swt). The hearts of kings are in the Hand of Allah (swt). The heart of officials are in the Hand of Allah (swt). The heart of the rich are in the Hand of Allah (swt). The hearts of everybody is in the Hand of Allah (swt).
If you have a problem with somebody, don’t yell at them and curse them. Say, “Yaa Rabbee, change their heart. Change the heart of kings to goodness. Change the heart of prime ministers to goodness. Change the heart of my boss to goodness. Change the heart of my parents to goodness. Change the heart of my siblings to goodness. Yaa Rabbee, You can change the hearts.” Muqalibu ‘l-Quloob.
Musa (a) said, “Yaa Rabbee, the hearts are in Your Hand. How can I make people love You? How can I make servants love You?” The mission of messengers, the mission of all saints, of all Anbiya, of all Awliya is to make the servants love Allah (swt). Is there anything else?
Rasoolullah (s) told his nation and Allah (swt) mentioned it in the Holy Quran, “Follow me and Allah will love you.” That means, “I am taking you to the love of Allah.” There is no other greater mission of any holy man or any preacher or any `alim or any professor or any engineer or whatever it is than to take the servants to the love of Allah (swt). Call them to the love. Rasoolullah (s) said, as mentioned in Surat al-Imran, fa ittabi’ooni, “Follow me.”
Say: "If ye do love Allah, Follow me: Allah will love you and forgive you your sins: For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:31)
Why do we follow you? Why do you follow Anbiya? Why do you follow Awliya? To gain the love of Allah (swt). To reach that Love Ocean of Allah (swt). That’s the mission. If an `alim, a malik, a king, or whatever, is not able to make peoples’ hearts love Allah (swt)--on the contrary, they fill their hearts with hatred--they are not on the right way. You have to bring people to the love of Allah (swt).
He asked, “How can I do that?”
“Remind them of My Favors upon them.”
Allah (swt) told Musa (a), “Take your people from the darkness to the light. Wa dhakkirhum bi ayami ‘l-Llah, and remind them of the days of Allah.
We sent Moses with Our signs (and the command). "Bring out thy people from the depths of darkness into light, and teach them to remember the Days of Allah." Verily in this there are Signs for such as are firmly patient and constant, grateful and appreciative. (Surah Ibrahim, 14:5)
The days of Allah means what Allah (swt) has granted you of favors in the days that have passed, today, and in the days to come. It’s all ni`mah of Allah (swt). When you remember Allah (swt)’s Favors, you start loving Him.
So when He gives you success, Tawfeeq, you say, “Yaa Rabbee, thank you. You have allowed me to go to Hajj.” Sayyidina Musa (s), is telling his nation that if you remember Allah's (swt) Favor on you:
وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِى لَشَدِيدٌ
wa idh ta’adhdhana Rabbukum la’in shakartum la’azeedanakum.
And remember! your Lord caused to be declared (publicly): "If you are grateful, I will give more (favors) to you; But if you show ingratitude, truly My punishment is terrible indeed. (Surah Ibrahim, 14:7)
Allah (swt) has declared to you, as Moses (a) told his nation, “O my nation! If you thank Allah (swt) for the Tawfeeq, the success that He has granted you, He will increase it.
Say, “Yaa Rabbee! You allowed me to go to Hajj.” Don't brag, “I am Hajji.” You are not. Don’t do that. Say, “Yaa Rabbee, you allowed me to go to Hajj. Allow others to have that favor. Yaa Rabbee, thank you.” Allah (swt) says, “I will increase.” How? “I will make you come closer to Me.”
If you thank Allah (swt) for the success, He will grant you actions that will make you closer to Him. If you thank Allah (swt) for getting closer to Him, Allah (swt) will increase by Him getting closer to you. This is the Hadith: “If you come to Me with one handspan, I will come to you with an arm span.” If you say, “Yaa Rabbee, thank you. You have made me do good ‘amal. I am approaching you,” Allah (swt) says, “I will increase because you thanked Me. If you are thankful that Allah (swt) has increased His closeness to you, Allah (swt) will increase you in muhabbah.
How can you love somebody if you’re not close to them?
First you have to be thankful for the Tawfeeq that Allah (swt) has granted you that allowed you to perform the good act, and then Allah (swt) will make you approach Him. When you are thankful for approaching Allah (swt), He will increase you by approaching you. If you are thankful for Allah (swt)'s approaching you, He will increase you in love. If you say, “Yaa Rabbee, thank You for allowing me to love You,” He will increase by His Love coming to you, by Him loving you! You say, “Yaa Rabbee, thank You for loving me.” Do you know if Allah (swt) loves you or not? Inshaa-Allah, He does. If you are in Ta`ah, He loves you. If you are in ihsan, He loves you. If you are in zhulm, He doesn’t love you. If you are in disobedience, He doesn’t love you.
Wa ‘Allahu laa yuḥibbu ‘l-mufsideen. If you are a mufsid, a corrupter, somebody who makes problems among people, somebody who makes problems among communities, Allah doesn’t love that one. If Allah (swt) loves you and you say, “Yaa Rabbee. Thank You for loving me,” Allah (swt) will draw you nearer to Him. When you say, “Yaa Rabbee, thank you for drawing me near to You,” Allah (swt) will allow you to enter into the Divine Court, inshaa-Allah, into His Divine Presence. Inshaa-Allah we can be from the lucky ones. We always mention the last verse from Surat al-Qamar:
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ
Fee Maq`adi ‘s-Sidqin `inda Maleekin Muqtadir.
In an Assembly of Truth, in the Presence of a Sovereign Omnipotent. (Surat al-Qamar, 54:55)
You enter that Presence of the Almighty King. So, what you need to do is remember the Favors of Allah (swt) upon you O, insaan. Say, “Yaa Rabbee. Thank you for everything You have given me. Thank you for my wife.” You have to say that, it is a ni`ma. “Thank you for my husband. Thank you for my children. Thank you for my clothes. Thank you for my health. Thank you for my eyes. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for allowing me to worship You. Thank you for allowing me to come close to You. Thank you for allowing me to love You.” Allah (swt) will increase that which He loves. He wants His servants to acknowledge the Favors that He has granted them and to say “thank you.” When you say “thank you,” Allah (swt) will give you whatever you want at any time you want. May Allah (swt) make us from them. Be shakir. Be from the ones that have shukr.
When Allah (swt) draws you close to him, it is said there’s a sign. You become shaakiran fi ‘s-sabr wa saabiran fi ‘s-shukr. You become a patient one in thankfulness. That means you continue on thankfulness. You continue to be a patient one on worship. You become a patient one in thankfulness and you become a thankful one in patience. When something is easy and nice, you are patient and continue worshipping Allah (swt) and you’re thanking Him. You are patient in thankfulness. When something is difficult, you are continuously thanking Him in that difficulty. That is when goodness and badness become the same for you. Everything is from Allah. You have reached that wahda. You have reached that unity, oneness. Ocean of Oneness. Whatever comes from that Ocean is from Allah (swt). You don’t see it as good, you don't see it as bad. You see it all as khayr coming from Allah (swt)’s Divine Presence. That is the mu’min. The mu’min has to accept everything that comes from Allah (swt). Watawasaw bi ‘l-Haqq, watawaasaw bi ‘s-sabr.
Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy. (Surat al-`Asr, 103:3)
They advise each other in Haqq. That means on `ibaadah. They advise each other with worship. And they advise each other on patience. That means they advise each other with `uboodiyah, servanthood. The servant accepts everything that comes. You are patient in servanthood and you are thankful in `ibaadah. Inshaa-Allah, we can be from them. Ameen. Ameen. Ameen.
