O Muslims! Everyone of us try to achieve something in his life. Some people Allah give them to be doctors or engineers or lawyers or whatever specialty they are getting and some others Allah gave them to be businessmen to work to do their best to make their living.

So everyone is trying to do something. You cannot sit and say “I am waiting, that comes to you by a basket from the roof.”

A basketful of provisions. You are not that one. We are not that one. That is only for those whom Allah swt wants them to be like that, He will give and he will provide them without doing anything. As we saw in Holy Qur'an where Allah is sending Virgin Mary without her doing any work and not doing anything and forgetting about that  - Allah is sending to her directly.

If Sayyida Maryam is like that then for sure Allah will send Sayyidina Muhammad (s) him whatever he likes. But the Prophet (s) never wants anything like that because the Prophet (s) wants to show the greatness and importance of doing work. The Prophet (s) used to work; sahaba used to work; the Khulapha raashidoon used to work. No one was lazy as today people are lazy and try to get from here and there and not to work.

So everyone of us is trying to achieve something. What about akhira. Is anyone of us trying to achieve for akhira. We say, “Ya Rabbee we are praying for You and we are fasting for You and we are giving charity for You.”

No, you have to do that, for you, because you don’t want to be in scary position on Day of Judgment; you don’t want to be punished; you want to be forgiven.

So when you think like that you will find that Allah swt has mentioned many things through His Prophet to be able to do something for your akhira.

Today when people finish a Master’s Degree or PhD or BS they go and celebrate, they are happy. Did we celebrate getting a PhD for heavens? Did we try to get PhD for heavens? Is there PhD for heavens? Yes there is - it is bara`at, it is innocence from hellfire. No we didn’t get that.

Look at that hadith of the Prophet (s). Rawahu ad-daylami…`an jabir `an ibn rawah, that the Prophet (s) said,” lama kana laylat usra bihi - when the night of Mi’raj and I was in Mi’raj - ra’aitu Jibreel - I saw Jibreel, although Jibreel was with him but when they arrived… mulk min khashiyyatillah. He saw Jibreel at that level where Jibreel said, “stop, you go forward from here.”

He saw him on something made of haseer, like  a straw mat thrown on the floor, why? It means Sayyidina Jibreel was in a position very clear to the Prophet (s) that he is afraid, min khashiyyatillah - if Allah swt will throw him in hellfire - and he is Jibreel. From that Divine Presence he is fearing - that Allah might throw him away. That is Jibreel. Are we Jibreel? If Jibreel is like that what about us?

That is sometimes when you read these ahadith and think about them, this the book of al-buqa wa’r-riqa, the books of softness and crying, tears. When you see these hadith you will say where I am going if Jibreel is like that and if Mikaeel is like that , and the Prophet (s) is like that where he said, “If you know what I know you will laugh little and cry a lot.”

And … why I don’t see angel Mikaeel yadhak smiling, not only serious but the opposite of smiling, like someone always worried from something, as if he is afraid. And about Jibreel he said, ma dahak Jibreel … nar. He never smiled since hellfire was created. That means that these four angels, Jibreel and Mikaeel and .. and Azraeel and Ridwan and Malik were created before this dunya life, before sins. So when hellfire was created, and when Sayyidina Adam ate from the tree.

So when Jibreel was asked by the Prophet (s)about Mikaeel, he said, “I never saw him smiling since hellfire was created.”

We know we are going to leave this dunya one day. Are we preparing a PhD for our Lord to say “we prepared something.” If we cannot say that then we must worry about ourselves when Allah asks us “what have you done for Me O My servant?”

Hadhathna ibn Ibrahim … an an-nabi qala li Jibreel… rawahu al-bayhaqi fee shu`b al-iman. That the Prophet (s) said to Jibreel, “la tateenee illa wa anta saamun bayna aynay. I see you coming to me Jibreel never smiling but like someone who has serious problem, his front here, [forehead] becomes so near each other and his forehead becomes so stressed.” He said, “all the time you are coming to me like that. You never came to me smiling.” That means the Prophet (s) never saw Jibreel coming except shaking. Might be Allah changes and says, “Ya Jibreel you did something wrong!”

And one day Jibreel came to the Prophet (s) and he was crying . “ma yubkeek?” “Ma jafat lee aynun minma khalaq-alahu jahannam - My eyes are always in tears the moment Allah created hellfire. “

So if that is Mikaeel and Jibreel and they have been discussed by the Prophet (s) and telling us what we have to do, what is our situation towards our worshipness and making sure we are safe on Judgment Day. I am not saying these things to make ourselves not happy, no but dhakkir fa inna adh-dhikra tanfa al-mumineen. Remind them, that will benefit all of us by reminding.

And he said, “ma jaffat lee aynun … makhaftan an `asee wa yulqeenee fee - I am fearful I will do something wrong and then Allah will throw me in hellfire.”

O Muslims, Sayyidina Adam when he ate from the tree that was the first sin to be committed. What is the meaning in Arabic of `asee mentioned in another even, the meaning of insan. The root of it comes from “to forget.” It is coming from someone who forgets. Insan is the one who is forgetting always. That is why Allah with His mercy put in us, that kind of forgetfulness. Because if we keep remembering we will regret all our lives as all did something wrong that we will regret. So Allah blessed us to forget. That is because we don’t remember what kind of sin we did yesterday or the day before or one month ago or one year. That is to keep this dunya running else all will stop and we will spend time remembering.

But there are people who don’t forget, those sincere people they are sincere and having nothing to fear. Ala inna awliyaullah laa khawfan `alayhim wa laa hum yahzanoon. They are in continuous repentance remembering what hey have done. Like Rabi`a al-`Adawiyya. She was in repentance after every prayer. They asked her why she was repenting and she said, “My repentance need repentance.”

They say when Adam ate from the tree, the ornaments and beauty of paradise he was dressing was stripped away. Like when you have a beautiful nice painting and you put some water on it, what happened? All the colors go down and it becomes naked.

So when Adam ate from the tree, all these heavenly decorations like a painting, they began to melt and nothing was left from the zeenat except the crown and the iqleel, the crown of flowers.

And wa ja`ala an yaskat alayhi min waraq al-jannah… as much as he was covering himself with leaves of Paradise it was falling apart.

So we cannot cover ourselves from Allah swt. Allah will see us. You are in bed - He sees us, you are in mosque - He sees us. Wherever you are you cannot hide. Remembering these things will keep us awake and aware that one day we will see and our eyes will be opened and we will see good and see bad and if we didn’t do good in this dunya we will see bad in akhira.
