Don’t Teach Irrelevant Things

Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

3 June 2018 Feltham, London, UK

Zhuhr Suhbah at Centre for Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (CSCA)(1)

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

There are two words that are very easy to say, yet very heavy on the Scale, most beloved to The Merciful, “SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

If you are in a meeting speaking to a non-Muslim, you will give them everything they can understand, but after the meeting, after you have explained everything to them, they might not say Shahaadah, it means they are not Muslim. Anyone who takes from a non-Muslim an understanding of Islam in his way, it is his problem to find the reality before he considers himself a shaykh or shaykha.

Now there is a trend that there are shaykhas (lady shaykh). A shaykha cannot be a shaykha for men, only for women, and this is clear to Ahlu’s-Sunnah wa’l-Jama`ah. If you go to India or Pakistan, or many other countries, you will not find a lady shaykha. That title Allah gave to men, Allah gave titles to men and women in different places. So we have to keep respect for what Allah has asked us to do. Although, Allah gave the ladies a higher position in many issues, but in that regard, to be a shaykha, she has to reach a level of understanding Shari`ah. If from the beginning she complains about why Allah gave men more than women, which is not true, but if she believes Allah gave men more than He gave women... they have to abide by the law Allah (swt) gave with respect and love for what He gave them, and make them happy. Allah made them carry children in their wombs, which is not easy, and He made them happy when the child arrives, so we have to follow that to perfection.

In which womb did Prophet (s) grow? Allah gave him one womb to be in. This is a privilege, a respect, a noor that shines everywhere, so don’t be tough on your wife, don’t be tough on your daughters, or on anyone. What we need is to understand our limit: man `arafa haddahu waqafa `indah, “Who knows his limit stands by his limit.” You cannot jump and say, “I want to be this or that.” We ask Allah’s forgiveness by saying, “Astaghfirullah.”

Those who claim to do meditation have to understand that as long as they are unable to rise from the floor and up, their meditation is baatil. I don’t claim that I rise up, but there are people who do and they don’t even know how to make wudu, is it not? They need someone to teach them how to make wudu. They don’t abide by that because it is too heavy for them to make wudu five times a day, or more to take wudu in every moment of your life. So how do you take knowledge from people who don’t have it, they only accumulate some words from different books, make a story, deliver them and claim to be a Wali?

We will be asked on the Day of Judgement, “On whom were you appointed Wali?” Can we lie on that Day and say that we were a Wali for such and such group of people? No! So think about it. Teach the constitution that Allah (swt) gave to you: Holy Qur’an and Holy Hadith. Do not teach things that are irrelevant. Everything that is being taught today is irrelevant to Islam. I do not mean to frighten anyone, but this is how things are moving towards the deep valley from where no one can pull you out. The Muslim Ummah today is losing, because they are claiming things that they cannot. Everyone is an `alim or a Wali, and as Mawlana used to say, you don’t even know how to make wudu.

So don't take knowledge from those who are not following the deen, they only hold seminars and give lectures, but do not even care to say the Shahaadah, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-rasoolu Llaah,” you have to make sure they say it before you begin to speak with them because if they don’t, it will be a fruitless discussion and you will not get any benefit. So make sure that they renew their Shahaadah, then you can sit with them and teach them what they need to be taught. It is not enough to just say the Shahaadah by tongue, but you must also believe that Allah (swt) is The Creator and Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is His Messenger, there is no other way.

They bring a story from here and another from there, make a show and then at the end say Shahaadah, which is only for show and not for the love Allah and Prophet (s). Those who come to see them go along with the show and make Shahaadah, but do not even know what it means. They are told it is a blessing. Remember, Prophet (s) came for quality, not quantity. If the entire Ummah comes to listen to what they say, they will find many mistakes. So make sure to keep the Way of Allah (swt). Today people say “Allah” the same way they ask for bread or biryani, with no respect! We didn’t open the subject of Ta`zeem illa-Llah yet, ta`zeemullah ʿazza wa-jall laa yarqaa `alayhi shay. Nothing can go above it. We have to be respectful when we say “Allah, ” it must come from within our hearts.

May Allah guide those who claim to be something they are not. I know many people who are like that, but it is not necessary to expose anyone, but make sure you are listening to Awliyaullah in a real way and don’t claim something that is not yours. Awliyaullah know, and they can expose anyone and put them down or raise anyone up. Let all of us say, “Yaa Rabbee, keep us with Prophet (s), with the one whom You love,” that is the real love. Love is when you say, “Yaa Rasoolullah (s)! Yaa Muhammad (s)!” Say, “Yaa Muhammad (s)! Yaa Allah!” That is what we need, to reach Prophet (s) and Awliyaullah!

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah. Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammad.

Are there any questions? [a mureed asks for du’a.]

Fatihah for all those who are asking for du’a for their problems to be erased and may they be happy. It is very difficult to make du’a for each person one by one. Awliyaullah ask their shuyookh to ask Prophet (s) the best way to make du’a for everyone. So with the permission of Mawlana, when we make one du’a it will cover everyone’s problems, as if everyone got a share from it. We don’t need to go one by one; instead, one du’a is enough for everyone or else, how will we believe in the power of the shaykh? Because of his love to Prophet (s), the shaykh can make mountains tremble with just one du’a! The du’a is in “Allah.”

Call on Me, I will answer you. (Surah Ghafir, 40:60)

So do you think He will not accept your du’a? When you call upon Him, He is with you, not physically, but He can send His angels. Do you think that this meeting has no angels? Yes, it is full of angels! Shaytan cannot approach these meetings. Unfortunately, we are blind. People often mix things up and change it from the original form as they are nearsighted and cannot see like those who are farsighted. Just as there are those who can see near, there are others who can see far, and these are Awliyaullah. They are of two types: those with the power to see near and those with the power to see far.

Awliya from the Naqshbandi Golden Chain have both powers. As Ibn `Ajeeba (q) said, “Knowledge is of two kinds: `Ilm azh-Zhaahir which you read and study, and `Ilm al-Baatin which comes from Heavens to the heart.” He mentioned knowledge as a plural, meaning with just one du’a, Awliya have access to all kinds of knowledges. [Mawlana asks a mureed to make du’a.]

This du’a that he just made was carried by angels all the way up to the Heavens. When an `abd makes du’a with purity and sincerity, his du’a will be carried by angels all the way to different levels of Paradises, so don’t think that your du’a is not reaching. Then there are those who make du’a, but it hangs between Heaven and Earth as it was not made with sincerity, it is artificial. Inshaa-Allah their du’a will go up at the time of their death. May Allah make our du’a to go up while we are still alive, because that is what’s important.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. Yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolullah, yaa Rahmatan li ’l-`Alameen! Anta shafi`a, Anta ‘l-habeeb, Anta ‘l-muqaddas, Anta ‘l-Abu Qaasim, Anta kullu shay, yaa Sayyidi, yaa Rasoolullah, yaa Rahmatan li ’l-`Alameen! Qadimna li hudoorillah Azza wa Jall taahireen mutahhareen laa khawfun `alayhim wa lahum yahazanoon. Fatihah.

Awliyaullah have the power to move mountains, but out of adab and respect for Prophet (s), they don’t show miracles. He (s) gave them that power which they only use in a hidden way, so you don’t realize they did it because they don’t like to show off. They remain humble, and don’t do something that stands out, in order for people not to be suhiroo, asmahum mina sahar, deceived, like those who claim to be Awliya adopt the ways of magicians, making people see things, but in reality nothing is there. Yes, they’ve reached that level, but nothing more. This is where fitna comes: people become sahar, like saharatun Musa, magicians; they tell you things that make you crazy, and at the end they make you see what they want.

This is a kind of fake `ilm, like what happened between Sayyidina Musa and Pharoah’s magicians. They threw down their staffs, which became snakes that dazzled the audience. But when Sayyidina Musa threw down his staff, reality was shown: by the power Allah gave it, his staff became a snake that swallowed the others, then again became a staff and returned to his hand. The magicians’ snakes were only an illusion that could not attack you, but they frighten you because you believe them to be real. The teachings of self-proclaimed ‘Awliya’ are false and they have no real power. They show artificial things they cannot do themselves and leave people in fitna, and for what? For certain reasons. All of us have this problem: we fascinate people with what we say and take them into problems.

Awliyaullah can move mountains, but out of respect they don’t. When Prophet (s) was in the Battle of Uhud, Mt. Uhud came to him and said, “If you need help, yaa Rasoolullah, I will turn myself into gold, all for you.” Prophet (s) said, “No, we don't need that.” It means any miracle you try to show people is false, because it doesn't correspond with what Prophet (s) said to Mt. Uhud. We don't treat people with sihr, black magic. We work with people based on Shari`ah, Fiqh, Ahadeeth, and Holy Qur'an.

May Allah keep us with them and give us the best of this day and the best of everything. [Ameen.]

Bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

Be careful! We are on limits, there is no more time, the time is coming. To them time is nothing. When Sayyidina Musa (a) asked Allah, "When are you going to destroy Pharoah for me?" Allah said, “Tomorrow.” He said, “How tomorrow?” Then Allah said, alaysa ‘s-subhu bi qareeb, “I am going to (destroy him), don't be pushy.” He (swt) spoke to him directly.

“Don't push, I am going to destroy him.”

“I didn't see anything.”

“No, you will see everything,” and Allah showed Sayyidina Musa (a) how to destroy Pharoah.

We must not be Pharoah, that’s the issue. He thought, ana rabbukum al-`alaa, “I am the Lord Most High.”

Allah said to Musa (a), “You are the highest. You don’t need to destroy them with a cane, I will destroy them by drowning them in the ocean so they don’t appear again.”

Why did Allah (swt) wait forty years to destroy Pharoah? As Mawlana Shaykh used to say and I think many people heard it, Allah didn’t destroy him immediately, but it was because of one thing. Sayyidina Musa (a) was not happy that Allah was delaying and finally he said, “Yaa Rabbee, you promised me but did not fulfill it.” There Allah wanted to show him that He can, and He destroyed Fir`aun for him by the ocean and the cane. But why did he delay it and let him live forty years?

Allah said to Sayyidina Musa (a), “Because Fir`aun knew the ni`mah of food and he respected it. Whenever that ni`mah fell on the floor while he was eating, he picked it up, cleaned it and then ate it, making sure not to throw it on the floor.” Today we are not only throwing crumbs, we throw away the whole pot with food because Mr. and Mrs. So-and-So want new food. They have no respect, they cannot eat the same food twice, then divorces follow because of that (baraka is removed). So everyone wants to be arrogant in his field, is it not? How can we claim we want to make du`a to Allah (swt) when on the other side we are destroying His ni`mah?

Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah (s) said, "Satan appears at everything done by you; he even appears at one's dinner. When a morsel of any of you falls, he should pick it up and remove any dirt on it, and then eat it. He should not leave it for Satan, nor should he wipe his hand with the towel until he has licked his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of the food the blessing lies."(Muslim)

Why don’t they follow this Hadith, if they claim they are the defenders of the Salafi madhab, why don’t they pick up the crumbs up and eat them? You might step on them!

So Allah delayed Fir`aun and still Sayyidina Musa (a) was not happy. In order to accept what Sayyidina Musa (a) was asking, Allah created a cause, because this dunya is based on cause and effect: you do something, you get something. In order to destroy him, Allah made in Fir`aun’s heart a thought/whisper, “Are you crazy? You are the king of kings, you are Fir`aun! Why are you running after crumbs? What will the neighbors say about you? Step on the ni`mah! You are rabbukum al-`alaa, ‘I am the Lord Most High’!” He hesitated and Iblees immediately whispered in his ear, “Step on it, step on it!” So Fir`aun stepped on the crumbs and Allah destroyed him. Our lesson is, don’t ever disrespect ni`mah! That is why in the old times they used to let the chickens eat the crumbs. Be careful.

There is a new trend to call ‘Awliya, who in reality are nothing, “Hadrat,” “Mawlana,” “Sahib.” It is not applicable to us, we have to say more against our egos. The ego will be happy when you say, “I am The Lord Most High” as inherited from Fir`aun, but we must be really careful. Don't fall under this category or you will have a problem. It is a warning to myself, to you, and to everyone.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

Inshaa-Allah we will continue next time. I am leaving on Tuesday, maybe tomorrow we can give one suhbah. What to do? Every meeting has a beginning and an end, even life has a beginning and an end. When they told Sayyidina `Umar (r) Prophet (s) had left dunya, he said, "If anyone says Prophet (s) left dunya, I will cut his leg!" Is it not?

Awliyaullah for sure understand what the ayah said, but for them Prophet (s) didn't die, for them he disappeared among the Ummah for their benefit, not for anyone to worship him, we are not talking about worship. Prophet (s) passed from Akhirah to dunya and then to Eternal Life. Awliyaullah see the Reality of that new secret. What happened between Prophet (s) coming to dunya and then what he was doing in reality, they found the secret in what all Awliyaullah do, what prophets used to look for: `Ismullah al-`Azham, The Greatest Name of Allah (swt), because anyone who knows the secret of that Name can change everything in dunya by His permission. And this was given to Prophet (s), Allah (swt) did not give it to Sayyidina Musa (a). When he asked, “Let me see You,” Allah caused him to faint and told him, “Lan taranee, you cannot see Me.” So Awliyaullah reached that reality because of Prophet (s) and were able to see what cannot be seen, to hear what cannot be heard, as it is said in the Holy Hadith of Prophet (s):

My servant does not cease to approach Me through voluntary worship until I will love him. When I love him, I will become the ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees, the hand with which he acts, and the legs with which he walks (and other versions include, “and the tongue with which he speaks.”). (Hadith Qudsi, Bukhari)

“If they follow what I say, I will love them and I will be their ears they can hear with, their eyes they can see with.” So if Allah (swt) put that power into his ears and his eyes, what will that person become, normal? He will become higher than anyone on Earth. That is Awliyaullah’s main secret from Prophet, that He gave to Awliya and every Wali took a little bit. As we know there are 124,000 Wali and their secret will be given to you if you follow them correctly. First that speech is for those who follow correctly, and those who did not, let them look into Shari`ah and make sure they follow the way of Prophet (s), not the way of Hindus or Buddhists. If I make Hindus and Buddhists happy with me, what is the benefit? If I make Prophet (s) happy with me, I gain every benefit. So we don’t play here, this is Tariqah: you cannot play around and claim to be something you are not: if you did, make tawbah (repent) and move on. May Allah (swt) accept our tawbah, and we say “astaghfirullah.”

SubhaanAllah, as we said yesterday, one letter of the Holy Qur’an is enough to drown all humanity on Earth in the Power of Perfection, and that letter is ‘Alif’, which the Holy Qur’an and most ayaat begin with. There are so many secrets in that one letter! Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

Now those who need to travel are free to go, and to those who are staying, Shaykh `Ali is here, he can give suhbah and make qasidah, and dance! [Laughter.] There is dancing in our way: it is to dance in Allah’s Love, to show your love to Him, not regular dancing that most people do. Dancing is sitting and bending a little bit, not the current trendy style, which now includes dancing on their heads! Is that showing Allah love? All he has in his pockets will fall down and he is upside down! [Laughter.] But Holy Qur’an mentions on the Day of Judgement, there will be people who will walk on their heads and other body parts.

The Prophet (s) said, “People will be gathered together on the Day of Resurrection barefoot, naked and uncircumcised.” ʿAyesha (r) said, “O Messenger of God, will women and men be together, looking at each other?” He (s) said, “O ʿAyesha, the matter will be much more intense than them looking at each other.” (Muslim)

Allah (swt) said:

We will gather them together on their faces on the Day of Resurrection blind, dumb and deaf. (Surat al-Isra, 17-97)

Sayyida `Ayesha (r) asked Prophet (s), “Yaa Rasoolullah, is it possible?” He said, “Yes, they will be moving on their heads.”Alhamdulillah no one here is dancing on his head.

[Du`a.]

Mawlana: Are you recording?

Imam Shair: “Na`am Sayyidi.”

Mawlana: It is one hour. Do you edit it or not?

Imam Shair: One video was thirty minutes and the other was sixteen minutes.

Mawlana: That is forty-six, 4+6=10. Every hasanaat with ten, and every hasanaat takes away ten sayyi`at and gives you ten hasanaat. We are under the rahmah of ten, because when Allah gives you mercy, blessings, you are under it, finished. He will not say, “Give it back to me.” If He gave it, He gave it (forever). 6+4=10, ten hasanaat. One hasanaat takes away ten sayyi`at and gives you ten sayyi`at for one letter of the Holy Qur’an.

This is for beginners and for those who are blind, like us, but if Allah opens our eyes, from every letter we can see oceans of letters. He will open knowledge to your heart that was never opened before, and we come and say, “Give us more.” First finish what you have: do your homework, then proceed to the next, because you cannot jump to the next without finishing the first, like in school. Not only pass the test, it is like mathematical calculations: you cannot continue to the second formula without solving the first one to apply that answer on the new one, and then the experiment opens itself. We need such principles: first finish what you have, then look for the other.

No, here they don’t do that, “We want to jump.” How to jump with superficial...sprinkles? You have a base, chocolate cake, and we are waiting to eat it when a child pours sprinkles on. it. You don’t say, “Wait, let me eat the sprinkles.” Awliyaullah don’t wait, they cut the cake and eat, but those who are artificial, falsely claiming they are Awliya, begin to eat the sprinkles like crazy, but there is nothing in them.
