Don’t Complain but Say Like Sayyidina Ya`qub (a) ‘Goodly Patience’

Shaykh Nour Mohamad Kabbani

28 September 2024 Montreal, Quebec, Canada

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem.

Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

May Allah (swt) decorate our hearts with iman. Don’t complain. Follow Sayyidina Ya`qub (a). What did he say? Fa sabrun jameel. What is the way of Anbiya? “Yaa Rabbee. I lost my son. I don’t know where he is. My other sons are all crazy. They beat him up. I don’t know what they did to him, but I will wait with good patience, with beautiful patience.” Sabrun jameel. How many years did he wait? Allah (swt) knows but some scholars said 40 years, others said 70 years, but it was a long time. He waited all of those years because he knew Allah's (swt) promise: wal-`aqeeba li ‘l-muttaqeen. The good ending is for the mu’min. There is no bad ending.

That Home of the Hereafter We shall give to those who intend not high- handedness or mischief on earth: and the end is (best) for the righteous. (Surat al-Qasas, 28:83)

May Allah (swt) grant you all of your wishes as he granted me all of my wishes, which was only one. Your wish should not be more than one. If you know what I mean, you have reached. If you don’t know, you will say, “What one? Was it the suit that he wanted or was it the Ferrari that he wanted or was it the red jubba for the wedding?” Your want is only one. If you have two, you are making shirk. I will tell you from now. If you want something else, you are mushrik, making equals with Allah (swt). Your want has to be only Allah (swt), nothing else. That is one. Your want is one. If you want a second then then your heart is not good. It is still corrupt.

That is the secret of one dot under the baa. Baa is the first letter of the Holy Qur’an. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. Alhamdulillahi Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen. He opened His Holy Book with harfu ‘l-baa, the letter baa. Awliyaullah have said one dot means one love. My heart contains one love. The heart cannot contain two loves. It will be split. Be a baa. Be the letter “B.” Inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) will allow us to have one love in our hearts.

Don’t worry about the others. Allow that love in your heart to take care of your problems. If you don’t trust your Lord, how are you loving Him, how are you approaching Him? “If I am a powerhouse for you and you go somewhere else for help, I would be upset. O Jarrah, O surgeon, why do you go to that one? I’m here. You don’t see Me anymore? You don't remember Me anymore? I have all the power. I can do whatever you want to do. Why do you go to someone like you who has no power?” Allah (swt) doesn’t like people to go to other than Him. A mu’min only says, “HasbiAllah” or “HasbunAllah wa ni`mal wakeel.” That’s it.

Sallim amrak il-Llah. Give your affairs to Allah (swt). That’s why we say, “Wa ufawidu amri.” What does that mean? Every week you come here. Every week you do Dhikr. Every week you do khatm and you say, “Wa ufawidu amree il-Llah. I give my affairs to Allah (swt),” and you don’t know what you are saying and what the affairs are. In the end you say, “This is wrong. This is wrong.” You already delegated your affairs to Allah (swt).

Wa ufawidu amree il-Llah inna ’Llah baseerun bi ‘l-`ibaad.

And you will remember what I [now] say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allah . Indeed, Allah is Seeing of [His] servants. (Surat Ghafir, 40:44)

Certainly my Lord, Allah (swt), is Watchful. He is watching everything.

Iman. I never asked Mawlana anything. I waited for things to get better on its own and it did. It was the same thing with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), my grandfather. I never asked him for anything. I did make du`a but I didn’t persist. Don’t insist. Alhamdulillah, it was heard, it was sent and the Divine Presence has looked at it. They are waiting. Immigration makes you wait six months sometimes. You don’t keep calling them, “What’s going on with my application?” You have to wait.

Your application for Jannah is accepted, don’t worry. If you are from Dhaakireen, from Ahlu ‘d-Dhikr, Allah (swt) loves you, He mentions you and He wants you. May Allah (swt) forgive us.

Mashaa-Allah, suhbah on the go. What can I do? I find pleasure being around you, so I want to make it longer. Ameen.

[Du`a]

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

[“Shaykh Nour, we love you with our full hearts!”]

Thank you, shaykh.

[Everyone singing] “We love you, we love you, we love you so much. We love you, what else can we say? Shaykh Hisham!”

That is proper.

“We love you, we love you, we love you so much. We love you, what else can we say? Hajjah Naziha!”

Our father and mother, that’s it. We are all his children. Me, you, him--they’re all his family. Whether it’s from the same physical lineage or spiritual lineage, you’re all connected. We are all his children.

May Allah (swt) keep us with him correctly, not zig-zag. How does the snake move? There is eternal zig-zag with the snake. It never goes straight. Don’t be a snake.

Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah.

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billahi 'l-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem.

Alhamdulilllahi Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen wa ‘s-salaatu wa ‘s-salaamu `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin Ashrafi ‘l-Mursaleen wa Akmali ‘l-Mursaleen wa Afdala ‘l-Mursaleen wa `ala alihi wa ashabihi ajam`een wa man tabi`ahum bi ihsanin ila yaumi ‘d-deen.

Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi wa Mawlay. Dastoor, yaa Sultan al-Awliya, madad.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

I want to thank the Naqshbandi community of Montreal for hosting us. Thank you, especially Omar Kone, Shaykh Husayn Friedman, Sidi Anwar Barrada and everybody who had a hand in helping to organize this three-day trip. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. May Allah (swt) allow you to continue your service for Him. May Allah (swt) allow this center to remain existing and intact in the heart of Montreal. May Allah (swt) guide through these doors to His Divine Presence all of the people of Montreal. Why not? Allah (swt) is able to guide Whomever He likes. You cannot put a limit. He can guide anyone at any point or any time. May Allah (swt) allow this center to always be a beacon of light, inshaa-Allah.

Thank you Shaykh Omar. Thank you Shaykh Husayn. Thank you Sidi Anwar. Thank you Shaykh Mehdi and all others. Mehdi one, Mehdi two and Mehdi three. Mashaa-Allah, we have so many Mehdis. Thank you. Alhamdulillah. Inshaa-Allah, we will head back home tomorrow. You are welcome to come and visit Mawlana Shaykh, visit the center that was opened in the beginning.

In 1991 or 1992, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) came. Mawlana Shaykh Hisham was there. Mawlana Shaykh Adnan was there, rahimahu ‘Llah and so many other senior mureeds. We were little back then and we’re still little. The senior mureeds were all there with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) and they opened that center. That center continues. Inshaa-Allah, you are all welcome to come there and forgive any shortcomings that you saw from me. I am just a human being like the rest of you. I can make mistakes. I try my best not to hurt anybody but if I have hurt you physically, spiritually, forgive me.

May Allah (swt) give you a hundred thousand times more than what you have given to Mawlana and his family. May Allah (swt) keep us all on the right path. Ameen, yaa Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen. Laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billahi 'l-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem.

I forgot about Shaykh Ibrahim. Also a very old mureed and somebody who has always been of help to us.

Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. Iman. Imam. JazanAllaha Rasoolullah khayra ‘l-jazaa. May Allah (swt) reward him endlessly. May Allah (swt) also reward the companions of Rasoolullah (s) with the best and endlessly. Wa jazAllahu `an as-haabi Rasoolulillahi (s) khayra ‘l-jazaa. May Allah (swt) also reward the companions of Rasoolullah (s) with the best and endlessly. JazAllahu `an Ahlu ‘l-Bayt khayra ‘l-jazaa. Sayyidina Hassan wa ‘l-Husayn, Sayyidina Fatima az-Zahra, Sayyidina Zain al-`Abideen and whoever came from their Holy Lineage who were also a support and beacon of Rasoolullah’s (s) light. May Allah (swt) also grant them endlessly.

Wa jazAllahu `an Awliyaullah. May Allah (swt) also reward Awliyaullah, also reward mashaaykh and peeraan the best and endlessly. May Allah (swt) allow us to follow them.

I would like to tell a small story that will bring perspective to what’s happening. As you know, so many believers have problems. We all have problems. We all have difficulties in this life. There were two fishermen. I have said this story before but this is a good spot to say it. Shaykh Husayn is watchful. He likes stories so I will tell you stories. Fish. Faqsusi ‘l-qasas. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said that Allah (swt) said in the Holy Qur’an, asta`eedhu billah, Faqsusi ‘l-qasasa la`allahum yattafakaroon.

If it had been Our will, We should have elevated him with Our signs; but he inclined to the earth, and followed his own vain desires. His similitude is that of a dog: if you attack him, he lolls out his tongue, or if you leave him alone, he (still) lolls out his tongue. That is the similitude of those who reject Our signs; So relate the story; perchance they may reflect. (Surat al-`Araf, 7:176)

Tell them stories. Maybe they will start to think. The Qur’anu ‘l-Kareem has so many stories to make you think, contemplate, meditate or whatever. Exercise your mind, not only with Sudoku. Also exercise your mind with the stories of Qur’anu ‘l-Kareem. Why did Allah (swt) tell these stories? The Qur’anu ‘l-Kareem has so many stories with endless wisdom.

This story about the fishermen is not from the Qur’anu ‘l-Kareem. It’s from Awliyaullah who have narrated it. One fisherman believed in something else. They went to fish. They went to Beaver Lake. I saw some fish yesterday, by the way. Little ones. Sport fishing. You release it back.

The one who believed in something else started mentioning his gods. You know, in India, in China, in Africa, in Asia, so many. He started saying the names of his gods and, subhaanAllah, the fish were just jumping into his net. Katheeran, many, many fish are coming.

The mu’min was making Dhikr of Allah (swt) and no fish were coming. The other guy’s net was full at the end of the day. The mu’min had nothing. At the end of the day, before leaving, mashaa-Allah, one fish got stuck by the hook. When he was releasing the hook, the fish slipped from his hand and went back.

Both of them went back to their houses. The angel that is with the mu’min--you know when they are changing shifts? The angels change shifts. At Maghrib time and Fajr time, angels change shifts. New angels come down and the old angels go up. At Maghrib, this mu’min was going back and the angel was ascending to the Heavens, sad for the mu’min.

Awliyaullah narrated that Allah (swt) showed that angel the mu’mins maqam in Jannah. The mu’min has a place in Jannah. The angel was happy. He said, “No matter what happens to this mu’min, when he sees this he’s not going to care. If he ends up here, no matter how little or too many he gathers, no matter how many difficulties or how much ease comes his way, nothing will harm him or here if they end up in this Paradise.” The angel was happy. He said, “Don’t worry. Allah (swt) has prepared something for you.” The mu’min did not catch any fish and went back home with nothing. Most of us go back home with nothing. There is something but you don’t see it.

The one who believed in something else, Allah (swt) showed him his place in Jahannam because he calls on a statue, he calls on a rock, he calls on an animal or whatever it is they worship. He showed the angel his place in Jahannam. The angel said, “It does not matter how much he collects on earth. It’s not going to help him if he is going to end up in that.

You see the ones who do not believe in Allah (swt) but believe in something else, control the world. They have amassed the wealth of the world. They have gathered the mansions of the world and the mu’min has a little apartment here or a little car there or a little shop there. The mu’min says, “What wrong did I do? Should I have been like them?” Shaytan is playing with you, “Be like them. You can get more.” It’s not going to help you if you are going to end up there in Jahannam at the end. Inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) guides everybody. We are not wishing Jahannam on anyone but Allah (swt) said there are two places you can go to: either you go to Jannah or you go to Naar. Choose your way.

The mu’min should not be saddened and say, “I have nothing. I don’t have a rock in my nose.” They put diamonds in their noses, in their ears and everywhere, bling, bling, glamor. Teeth? This is old fashion. They don’t put gold in their teeth anymore. This is in our countries. In America they have veneers, lumineers, whatever. Thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars. That’s what they do.

As a mu’min, you should have faith in Allah (swt) that He has prepared something great for you. Allah (swt) promises you in the Holy Qur’an and it’s a long ayah:

Ina ‘l-Muslimeena wa ‘l-muslimaat wa ‘l-mu’mineena wa ‘l-mu’minaat wa ‘l-qaniteena wa ‘l-qanitaat wa ‘sadiqeena wa ‘s-sadiqaat wa ‘s-sabireena wa ‘s-sabiraat wa ‘l-khashi`eena wa ‘l-kashitaat wa ‘l-muttasadiqeena wa ‘l-muttasadiqaat wa ‘s-sa’imeena wa ‘s-sa’imaat wa ‘l-hafizheena furujahum wa ‘l-hafizhati wa ‘d-dhakireenAllaha katheeran wa ‘dhakiraati a’adAllahu lahum maghfiratan wa ajran adheema.

For Muslim men and women,- for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in Charity, for men and women who fast (and deny themselves), for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in Allah's praise,- for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward. (Surat al-Ahzab, 33:35)

Allah (swt) is counting to you all the groups of obedient ones. Try to be from them. Do you know the groups? Did you ever come across that ayah? No, all we read is Instagram. What ayah? What groups? “You make du`a for me and I go with my friends to whatever.” It ends with: wa dhakireenAllaha katheeran wa ‘d-dhakiraati a`adAllahu lahum. “A`ada” means, “He set up. He has prepared.” What did he prepare for these groups? A`addallahu lahum maghfiratan. He will forgive everything you have done. Maghfiratan that has no limit. Forgiveness that has no limit. Not only forgiveness, wa ajran `azheema, and grandeur. Not only great, huge thawab, reward, for you. For whom? For these groups. What are these groups? I don’t know but I know Muslimeen, Muslimaat. Maybe it’s enough for me. It might be enough for you.

Allah (swt) likes you to have all the other characteristics. You can read it in Surah Ahzab. Wa dhakireenAllaha katheeran wa dhaakiraat. That is why Dhikrullah is very important. Not everybody can fast, not everybody can give charity, not everybody can keep his pants up--excuse my language. Not everybody can keep prayers. But people can make Dhikrullah. It’s easy. Dhikrullah is easy. You sit for ten minutes and make Dhikrullah. The others might have to worship for 12 or 15 hours if you’re fasting, to go to Hajj for days and weeks and whatever but Dhikrullah is quick.

Have you ever heard of Luqman al-Hakim? He is from Bani Isra’eel. He was with Sayyidina Dawud (a). He said to his son, “O my son. When you see people making Dhikrullah, sit with them because if you are `alim, your `ilm will benefit you. But if you are ignorant, they will teach you. If Allah (swt) looks at them with love and mercy, it will touch you. It will brush upon you.

When you sit with dhakireen, when you sit with ahlu ‘d-Dhikr, when you sit in Dhikrullah, when Allah (swt) looks at His beloveds, the ones who are mentioning Him with Rahmah, that might touch you. Some of that Rahmah might brush over you. It might be enough for you.

He told his son, “If you see people making Dhikrullah, sit with them, because if Allah (swt) looks at them, He will look at you. Whatever He sends their way, some of it will come to you. If you see people sitting but not in Dhikrullah, don’t sit with them. If you are an `alim, your `ilm did not benefit you. If you are a jahil, they will make you more jahil. If Allah (swt) looks at them with disappointment and He is upset with them, that disappointment and upset and anger will also brush onto you. It will come to you.”

Look at that wisdom. This majlis is held every week, twice a week. At home you can do it everyday if you want. With Dhikrullah, Allah (swt) will look at you with Rahmah. That Rahmah might be enough for you here and Hereafter. Not only for you, but Allah (swt) will give Rahmah to your generations because if your inside is full of mercy, your children will come according to what you have inside of you.

Al-waladu sirru abhi. “The child is the secret of his father.” That means, whatever the inner state of his father was during that time, the child comes out that way. Look, Sayyidina Nuh (a) was angry. He made du`a, “Kill all of them. Destroy all of them.” He got his son during that period, Kanan. The son is the one that Allah (swt) said, “He is not from your family. He is no good.” Awliyaullah have explained that is because the inner state was full of anger and rage. The son that came was a reflection of the inner state.

Dhikrullah purifies your inside. That Rahmah comes to your inside. Your children will follow. Allah (swt) will bless them with that Rahmah. But if you were angry during that period, if you were upset during that period, your son might come on the wrong way. Be careful.

Sit with dhaakireen, the people who make Dhikrullah. That Rahmah will brush upon you. They will teach you from their `ilm. Not mine, but our teachers, our masters, the ones who have narrated the story about the fishermen. Even if you don’t collect anything in this world, even if you don’t gather anything in this world at the end of the day like the rest of them, Allah (swt) has prepared that place for you in Jannah. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said that the minimum size of Jannah that will be granted to the Muslim and the mu’min is ten times the size of this dunya. How about the other ones? How many, ten, twenty, one hundred, one thousand dunyas? It changes everyday.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, as the sun is fresh everyday, your day in Jannah is fresh. Everything changes. You’re not going to say, “Oh this is the same as yesterday. What is this? I’m bored.” There’s no boredom. Everyday Jannah changes. Not only that, the pleasure you acquire in Jannah does not disappear like in dunya. In dunya you eat, “Oh, delicious.” What happens after five seconds? Gone. You have to eat more. If you eat more, what happens to you? You become like a Pakistani `alim. Excuse me. I’m sorry about that. Or a Lebanese `alim, okay, big one. If you want that pleasure continuously, you will become a big one, then you can tell people, “I’m a big one.” It’s true, you are a big one.

In Jannah, the pleasure does not disappear. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said that the pleasure you have tasted stays and every pleasure you take on just increases. Your taste, your delight, your pleasure, your feelings never disappear like dunya, rather they continue to accumulate over each other. That taste continues to accumulate in Paradise. There’s no disappearance of taste. Every day in Jannah is different.

On Yawmu ‘l-Jumu`ah when Allah (swt) shows His Beauty to the people of Jannah, when they go back they see their Jannah has multiplied multiple times better because of the Noor of Allah (swt), His Holy Face. When that Noor comes upon Jannah, all the inhabitants of Jannah stop basking in the delights of Jannah. They don’t care about Jannah anymore, all they care about is the Beautiful Face of Allah (swt) as He shows. We don’t know how it is but we believe and it came in the Hadith that on Yawmu ‘l-Jumu`ah, Allah (swt) will show His Holy Face, His Jamal, His Beauty to the people of Jannah. When they return to their paradises, they will see that their paradises have become so much more beautiful. Their family will see them when they return and say, “What happened to you? You’re a thousand times more beautiful than when you left this morning.”

The time of Jumu`ah is where Allah (swt) has put that sun at its zenith. The strongest sun rays are at noon. On Jumu`ah in Paradise, Allah's (swt) Noor will be shown to the people just like the sun is right on top of you in the strongest way. It will all be reflected onto them that this way is a good way.

If you don’t have too many things, it’s okay. Allah (swt) has prepared for you, ma laa `aynun ra’at wa laa udhunun sami`at wa laa khatar `alaa qalbi bashr. Allah (swt) has prepared things that you have never seen, things that have never been heard of and things that did not even cross your heart or that you experienced. People say, “I’m going to go back and see my husband over there.” What is this? “I will go back and see my neighbor.” I’m tired of all of these people. Have a house again and eat some food. I don’t want any of that anymore.

No, you’re going to have some things that you’ve never seen or experienced. That is the Hadith of Rasoolullah (s). A`ad li `ibadihi saaliheen. He has prepared for His highest servants. Be a pious servant of Allah (swt). Don’t be a pious servant to other than Allah (swt). Don’t be a servant of dunya. You work 15 hours, 18 hours. If you had the energy, you would for 24 hours. For what? For half of it to go in taxes. You’re crazy.

The rich ones, no. The poor one doesn’t know what that means yet. In the 80’s or 90’s, in the USA they used to say, if you’re under 35, you’re a Democrat. If you're over 35, you're a Republican. Because they say Republicans cut taxes and Democrats increase taxes. That is the saying.

When you are young, you’re poor. You don’t pay taxes. But when you become successful, CEO like yourself, a banker. You’re 40-years-old and now you’re raking in the money. What happens to your money? Half of it goes to taxes. It’s gone. The other 20% goes to the mortgage. The other 10%? House insurance, car insurance, car payments or whatever. The other 10%? Tolls, fees and whatever. What do you have left? Ten percent. Alhamdulillah, it’s enough for you they say, “90% for us, 10% for you. Be happy. We give you dunya.”

Allah (swt) is going to give you ten times dunya if you follow the path of Rasoolullah (s). Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammad wa `alaa ali Muhammadin wa sallim. That’s why he is the biggest ni`mah. He is telling you how to be happy and content in this world, and how to be happy and content in the Hereafter? What else do you need, O insaan, O human being?

May Allah (swt) guide them as He guided us to Dhikrullah, guide them to iman, guide them to Rasoolullah’s (s) door. Inshaa-Allah, He keeps us at this door, the door of Rasoolullah (s). Every masjid is for Rasoolullah (s). It is for Allah (swt), of course, but it was built by Rasoolullah (s), on his way. He has shown you how to worship your Lord.

Wa anna ‘l-masaajida lillahi falaa tad`oo m`a Allahi ahada.

And the places of worship are for Allah (alone): So invoke not any one along with Allah. (Surat al-Jinn, 72:18)

We know that, masajid is for Allah (swt), but He says,

wa-annahu lammaa qaama `abdu l-lahi yadʿoohu kaadoo yakoonoona `alayhi libadan

"Yet when the Devotee of Allah stands forth to invoke Him, they just make round him a dense crowd." (Surat al-Jinn, 72:19)

. He mentioned `AbdAllah, the perfect servant of Allah (swt), when he stood up to worship and pray for Him in the masjid. Rasoolullah (s) is continuously up worshiping Allah (swt), asking for his Ummah. Be on that path. Come to the door of Rasoolullah (s). The door of the masjid is the door of Rasoolullah (s). The masjid is the Divine Presence. He will allow you in if you follow him to the door. If you follow somebody else to another door, you will be lost.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. I don’t want to take too much of your time. May Allah (swt) always keep us together. The hearts of mu’mins are always together. Shaytan comes but don’t allow Shaytan to separate you and your brother. Always kick him out by saying, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Tell him, “I don’t want your nonsense. Please leave me alone. I’m tired of you.” I’m 53 and until now, he still comes. Fifty years, shaykh. What a guy, never left me alone for 50 years. “What are you doing, praying? How many times are you going to pray? Your knees are not good nowadays. You’re weak. You’re this and you’re that.”

That is to me, to you and you and you. He works on everyone. Always say, “Leave me alone. I’m tired of you. I want to continue my path to the door of Jannah.” That is Dhikrullah. Inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) will make us from dhaakireen. Ameen, yaa Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
