Do Not Allow Dunya to Cheat You Out of Your Akhirah!

Shaykh Nour Mohamad Kabbani

7 June 2025 Fenton Zawiya, Michigan

Suhbah After Fajr

The best of people are those who benefit others. You have to know that. Allah's Holy Name is ‘An-Nafi`’, The Benefactor. He created you as His deputy. Isn’t that true? [Yes.] So where is your nafa`, your benefit? Do you hide it? Why is a human being harmful? Allah (swt) put you on the other side and told you, “Come over.” Come over to where, yaa Rabbee? “Come over to the Prophet (s). Come over to Awliyaullah. Come over to the angelic realms. Leave the Satanic, demonic realms.”

Alhamdulillah, for two weeks I haven’t watched any news. I’m fasting from the news. News means dunya and what’s happening in it. Yesterday I decided to get a taste of dunya again. What is this, we are always in Akhirah, Akhirah, Akhirah? We have to find out what’s happening in dunya. I said, “Tawbah, yaa Rabbee. I will never do that again.” I just read two names who are feuding with each other and it was enough. I don’t need anymore. Why are you harmful, O human being?

First we say, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

What did Sayyidina Ayub (a) say? Inni masani ‘l-dhurru wa Anta Arhamu ‘r-Rahimeen. “What touched me was harm and You are the Most Merciful.”

And (remember) Ayub, when He cried to his Lord, "Truly distress has seized me, but Thou art the Most Merciful of those that are merciful." (Surat al-Anbiya, 21:83)

Shaytan is the harmful one. Allah (swt) is Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem. He is telling you to leave the harmful one. That’s why we say, a`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Leave harm. By the Name of Allah (swt), the Most Gracious, Most Merciful. Ar-Rahman is full of Mercy.

Human beings have to leave harmful acts, words and states. Leave the demonic words, states and actions and move over to, Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. Move over to the Rahmah of this dunya and the Rahmah of Akhirah that Allah (swt) is bestowing upon all of us. Allah (swt)’s Holy Name is An-Nafi`.

Sayyidina Ayyub (a) said, innee masanee ‘l-dhurru, “Harm has touched me.” Dhurr is Shaytan because in another ayah he says: innee masanee ‘s-Shaytan bi nusbin wa `adhaab. Shaytan has touched me with `adhaab, difficulty.

Commemorate Our Servant Job. Behold he cried to his Lord: "The Evil One has afflicted me with distress and suffering!" (Surah Saad, 38:41)

Look at the adab of Sayyidina Ayyub (a). He said, “Shaytan touched me with hardship.” He didn’t say, “You touched me with hardship.” Shaytan represents harm, hurt, and every bad action or word that can come out of any creature. Sayyidina Ayyub is saying, “Move over to Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.”

Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi, madad. We need help. We need support. Allah (swt) will send the support. He sends it through the angels! Asta’eedhubillah.

Yumdidkum rabbukum bi-khamsati aalaafin mina 'l-malaaikati musawwimeen.

Yes, if you remain firm and act right, even if the enemy rushed here on you in hot haste, your Lord would help you with five-thousand angels wearing turbans with tails. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:125)

Allah (swt) will send you madad with 5,000 angels. That means he can send madad through spiritual beings, through angels or whatever He wants! Once you open that door, that madad can come through another entity which is the angels. Allah (swt) can send madad through spiritual beings as He likes!

He said in the Holy Qur’an: Sanashuddu `addudaka bi akheek. “We will strengthen you, O Musa. We will make you powerful by your brother, Harun.”

He said: "We will certainly strengthen thy arm through thy brother, and invest you both with authority, so they shall not be able to touch you: with Our Sign shall ye triumph, you two as well as those who follow you." (Surat al-Qasas, 28:35)

Allah (swt) can send power through your brother, which is physical, through angels, which is spiritual. Allah (swt) can do whatever He wants! Allah (swt) is asking us to move over to, Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

What does Sayyidina Sulayman (a) say? Innahu min Sulayman. It is from Me. I have sent you something and I take my support from, Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

"It is from Solomon, and is (as follows): 'In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.’” (Surat an-Naml, 27:30)

That is the way and we have to find it. May Allah (swt) keep us together with Awliyaullah. Move over, O human being. Leave harm. Leave Shaytan and what he is telling others to do, “Hurt him, beat him, curse him, cuss him, insult him, demean him, belittle him.” Look at the world. Everybody is belittling, demeaning, and insulting others, and in other parts of the world they are killing, maiming and burning others. Is that civilization? Is that the civility they talk about?

There are no human rights anymore. They respect animal rights more than human rights. Any creature deserves mercy. That is the Name of the Lord of Heavens, Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem. Try your best to move away from harm!

Dastoor, yaa Sayyidee, Qutbu ‘l-Mutasarrif. Madad, yaa Sultanu ‘l-Awliya.

Awliyaulllah have said there are three types of people. There is a group of people who are busy with their wages or salary away from Akhirah. You are busying yourself in this world and collecting the wealth of this world and you are not busy with Akhirah. When I opened the news yesterday, I found exactly these people.

The others are busy with this world. What about the Hereafter? It doesn’t even cross their minds. Death, yes, because they see it everyday but what happens after death is not there. “All of us are forgiven no matter what you do because he died for our sins.” How is that? That doesn’t give you a carte blanche as they say. It doesn’t give you free access to do whatever you want on earth from corruption, fasad. No, there is a responsibility.

Of course, Allah (swt) has Rahmah. We don’t say anything about that and Rasoolullah (s) has shafa`ah but Allah (swt) wants you to be your best and do your best in this world. The group of people who are busy with dunya over Akhirah are haalikeen as that Waliyullah has said. He is Sayyidina Yahya ibn Mu’adh ar-Razi (q). He said those who are busy with dunya and have neglected Akhirah will perish. The other group are busy with their return over their wages and this is you. Why are you here? For Akhirah! Why aren’t you working? Some people have night shifts. Don’t you like your money? Yes. Some people are working at this moment.

You have chosen your return. You have chosen to make your return better and you are busy with that instead of the pay they offer you. This group of people are the winners. Congratulations, we have all won! We are winners of the love of Allah (swt) and His Pleasure, the love of Rasoolullah (s) and his pleasure and the love Awliyaullah and their pleasure. Do you want anything else? If you want anything else, you have missed the point.

Allah (swt) did not create you for pleasure. In Jannah, there are pleasures. Allah (swt) granted that but the real pleasure is to reach His Pleasure and His Love. Sahabah kiraam (r) all reached that. That’s why we say, radiAllahu `anhum. In the Holy Qur’an, Allah (swt) said, radiAllahu `anhum. Allah (swt) was pleased with them. You want to be like that.

I heard from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) that Grandshaykh AbdAllah (q) had a vision in which he heard, “O My servant! What do you want?” If it happens to you, what do you want? If it happened to me, I would say I want to rule the world, I want to be number one.

After I heard that from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), I started reciting that du`a all the time. Allah (swt) is looking at your heart, what do you want? Be careful. He knows what’s in your heart. Don’t say, “I will hide.” You have to purify your heart so there is nothing left in there that He can see other than Him. He said, “Yaa Rabbee. I want to be Your `abd from Azal to Abad. I want to be Your servant from the beginning.” Allah (swt) has no beginning. He is before the beginning.

He didn’t ask for anything else. He didn’t ask to be the king of kings. He didn’t ask to be a leader or a ruler or to be powerful. He didn’t say, “I want to be on top of Your angels. I want to be the number one Waliyullah. I want to be more than Anbiya. I want to be more than Rasoolullah.” That’s what Shaytan wanted. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said he wasn’t after Adam (a), he was after Rasoolullah (s). He wanted to be what Rasoolullah (s) is! That’s Shaytan. He wanted to be on top of everybody else because of his arrogance and pride.

Grandshaykh `AbdAllah ad-Daghestani said, “I want to be Your servant from Azal to Abad.” That is our way and that is fa’iz, the winner. That is why his name is `AbdAllah al-Fa’iz, the one who won Allah (swt)’s Love and Rida and Rasoolullah’s (s) love and ridaa and the love and ridaa of Mashaykhu ‘l-`izhaam.

One time I heard Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) was in the majlis of Mawlana Shaykh `AbdAllah and they asked him a question. He said, “It’s not my work. It’s the work of Mashaykhu ‘l-`izhaam.” Izhaam means “magnificent shuyookh.” He won the ridaa of Allah (swt) and Rasoolullah (s) and the ridaa of mashaaykhu ‘l-`izhaam.

That is what we are doing. We’re not trying to hover over others, we’re trying to be from the winners of Allah (swt)’s Love and Rasoolullah’s (s) love. That’s why we are busy with our return over our pay.

The third group is in between. They like their pay and they like their return, but they are the risky ones, because you don’t know where your heart will lead you in the end. Shaytan will work so hard to get you away from Akhirah. If you are in between, that is the doubt. “What do I choose? Do I choose dunya, my pay, my properties and my position, or do I choose Allah’s contentment and satisfaction and Rasoolullah’s (s) love?” That’s where it is dangerous.

Try to be busy with your return rather than your pay. Allah (swt) will send you what you need and your children. He does not leave anybody hungry. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said Allah (swt) does not leave anybody hungry, even the homeless eat.

When you leave a restaurant with your takeaway, if you see the homeless you give it to them and go. Food came to them. Don’t you do that? I have done that. Mashaa-Allah, you spend $200 to eat at a restaurant. You have some potatoes leftover so you put them in a to-go container. Some people don’t take it to go, they throw it away!

One time we left a restaurant in San Francisco. We saw a homeless person sleeping, so we put the bags down and left. The guy woke up and said, “Oh, food.” Allah (swt) gives. He will not leave you hungry. He has written your destiny, so be busy with Him because you are for Him. We often repeat that Holy Verse.

I have only created Jinns and men, that they may serve Me. (Surat adh-Dhaariyaat, 51:56)

That means, “I have created you, O insaan, for Me. I did not create you for dunya.” Try to be from the winners who have chosen Allah (swt) and His contentment over Shaytan, dunya, nafs and hawa.

Know your enemies. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) always reminded us of our four enemies: this low world and its pleasures, which means don’t get too involved in the pleasures of this world. Yes, you work and take what you need but not too much. Then your nafs, ego, hawa, your desires and Shaytan. There is no fifth enemy. A human being should not be your enemy. Look at the teachings of Muslim saints. They say don’t take a human being as an enemy. Your enemy is Shaytan. Your enemy is this dunya. Your enemy is your ego and any other ego.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) used to say, “I am the enemy of all the crooked egos.” That's why he used to yell at people. He would not get mad at them for being people, no. You cannot be mad at the essence of a human being, but rather the ego that is riding them. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) tried to return them to the correct way.

Awliyaullah have advised us to be from the winners. Be fa’iz like Grandshaykh and Awliyaullah. Always work for your Akhirah. In dunya, take what you need.

Hurrimat `alaykumu ‘l-maytata, for you was made haram the dead, the blood and the flesh of the swine.

Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been invoked in the name of other than Allah; that which was killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which was (partly) eaten by a wild animal, unless you are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety.

This day those who reject faith have given up all hope of your religion: don't fear them, fear Me! This day I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and chose Islam as your religion. But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surat al-Ma’idah, 5:3)

It is a very important verse. Of course, there is a physical meaning, but Awliyaullah said that al-mayta, the dead, is this dunya. This dunya will be a dead creature in the end, it will finish. Dunya is haram for the mu’min. ‘Damm’ is blood. Shaytan moves through the blood, so it means any shaytanic or egoistic desire is forbidden.

O Muslim, O mu’min, be careful of the bad desires. Wa lahmu ’l-khinzeer, the flesh of the swine. What is the characteristic of the pig? The other day my daughter asked, “Dad, why don’t we eat pig?”

I said, “Because they eat garbage and dirt.”

“What garbage? Nobody eats garbage and dirt!”

I found a clip of a fat pig. You could not see its eyes anymore, the cheeks had taken over. It was eating the dirt and the garbage. The characteristic of the pig is al-hirs wa sharrah. ‘Hirs’ is greed. ‘Sharrah’ (شَرَه) is immense appetite to eat everything. The characteristic of the pig is to eat dunya, to take everything in front of it. When you have immense greed, you become hurtful to others, unjust and cruel, because you want to take that and you don’t want anybody to touch it.

Physically you cannot eat the flesh of the pig, but you should also not approach the characteristic of the pig. Don’t be a pig who is greedy and angry. Some pigs kill. Boars attack human beings for no reason. They have big blades and they attack. They can cut you with deep cuts that will kill you. Don’t take on the bad characteristics of pigs, don’t follow the desires of the ego and Shaytan, and don’t want whatever is dead, which is this dunya.

Read to the end of the verse. Fa man idturra. ‘Idturra’ is if it’s necessary or he is forced. ‘Fee makhmasatin’, if he was hungry or in a famine, ghayra mutajaanifin li ithmin fa inna ’Llah Ghafooru ‘r-Raheem. There are a few verses in the Holy Qur’an where Allah (swt) says dunya is haram for you except when you need it, when it’s necessary, but you don’t take too much or go overboard, take what is needed. Allah (swt) is Ghafooru ‘r-Raheem. He will forgive you. He is Merciful.

"...Not inclining towards sin, for indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." (Surat al-Baqara, 2:173)

Awliyaullah have said the dead, the blood, and the flesh of the pig is permissible to a Muslim if there is nothing else to eat and if you will die from starvation. Only at that time can you eat them. It is the same thing with dunya. You cannot just be in a corner for 24 hours. You will die. You have to go out in dunya to get your sustenance, to get strong again and worship. Allah (swt) has opened that door that, yes, you can go into dunya, but don’t go overboard: don’t be unjust and unfair to others.

We are here for the return, but you are allowed to take what you need from the dunya, but not too much. Be from the winners. Inshaa-Allah, we can be from the winners. Don’t be from the risky ones that have taken both. They don’t know which side to take, dunya or Akhirah. That is harder for the young ones. The old ones have no power for dunya anymore. They’re all gone. All the power they had when they were 20, 30, 40 maybe, 50, no, it’s finished.

The young ones are thinking, “What am I doing here? I am 17 years old. I should be out there plowing the fields of this dunya and getting up there.” Where is, “Up there?” In the business world, as they say. What do you do ‘up there’? Have you ever seen the penthouse parties? Musicians and others reached up there in the corporate world, ploughing the fields of dunya. Many fell into the well of filth. That is asfala ’s-saafileen. Allah (swt) talks about that in Surah Tin. Wa ’t-tinee wa ’z-zaytoon.

They fell to the bottom of the dirt and filth of this world. Don’t aspire to go up in the corporate world. Don’t say, “I’m a musician. I’ll try my luck in New York City to them.” Take a lesson from what’s happening. Again, it’s not the human being per se but rather the characteristics he has taken on.

If they had taken the right way, the way of Heavens, it would have been a great success. They might have done something great for this world, but the characteristics of the bad ego and Shaytan took over his mind, his body, his heart and in the end it’s embarrassing to be in that situation. More embarrassing is the ones who went to his parties. He is in jail now. You don’t know what happens in jail.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. Allah (swt) knows best. We don’t know. We just hear, see and take lessons. Be a good one. Sahib is from Jersey. Don’t cross over to Manhattan. I know you think about it. Only for Dhikr it’s allowed. We also have Madani. What happened to your turban? Go for Dhikr in New York City, nothing else! After Dhikr there is no going around. Allahu Akbar, they took me to Dhikr in the summer. Was it Dhikr? I didn’t know what we were doing. On the way in you see all of these people who are half-naked or half-dressed. I have no idea. I feel bad for the driver because he has to watch everything. I’m like, “Are we there yet?” On the way out it’s even worse because it’s midnight.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. Young ones, watch yourselves. I was in Toronto one time. I met a holy man. I forgot his name. He said, “Shaykh, the love of dunya is inversely proportional to the length of the beard.” So, the longer your beard, the less your love for dunya. The shorter your beard, the more love for dunya. Mashaa-Allah, in the UK all of them have nice fashionable beards!

What you need to write is, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. That sums it up. Leave Shaytan and come to Rahman. It’s finished. There is nothing else to be said. May Allah (swt) forgive us.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
