Even with All Our Sins We Are Still Honored

Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

Alam nashrah laka sadrak.

Have we not expanded for you your breast? (Surat ash-Sharh, 94:1)

Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

Wa maa yantiqu `ani 'l-hawaa in huwa illa wahyun yoohaa.

By the star when it goes down, your companion is neither astray nor being misled. Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) desire. It is no less than inspiration sent down to him. (Surat an-Najm, 53:1-4)

Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

Yaseen wal qur’ani ’l-hakeem.

YaSeen and the wise Qur'an. (Surat YaSeen, 36:1-2)

O Believers! This is our Prophet, Sayyidina Muhammad (s), who is the Best of Humanity and of Creation! He is better than all angels, because Allah (swt) invited him where He didn't invite any angel and no one knows that nearness except him! Allah gave him the Holy Qur'an and its secret, and the secret of the letters and abbreviations in every surah. He gave him the ability to interpret the Holy Qur'an and carry the revelation, as Allah (swt) said:

لَوْ أَنزَلْنَا هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى جَبَلٍ لَّرَأَيْتَهُ خَاشِعًا مُّتَصَدِّعًا مِّنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ وَتِلْكَ الْأَمْثَالُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

Law anzalnaa haadha ’l-quraana `alaa jabalin la-raaytahu khaashi`an mutasaddi`an min khashyatillaahi wa tilka ’l-amthaalu nadribuhaa li ’n-naasi la`allahum yatafakkaroon.

Had We sent down this Qur'an on a mountain, verily you would have seen it humble itself and cleave asunder for fear of Allah. Such are the similitudes that We propound to men that they may reflect.

(Surat al-Hashr, 59:21)

Allah (swt) said:

Inna anzalnaahu fee laylati ’l-qadr, wa maa adraaka maa laylatu ’l-qadr.

We have sent down Holy Qur'an on the Night of Power. What do you know about the Night of Power?

(Surat al-Qadr, 97:1-2)

Allah revealed the Holy Qur'an in one night and asked, “What do you think of that one night? It is better than one thousand nights!” And there are countless examples of such ayaat. We cannot count or express the Greatness of Prophet (s) and Kalaamullah as our tongues are frozen. With all that (honor and greatness), Prophet (s) tied a stone to his stomach (to alleviate) his hunger and all we are doing is eating! Allah is favoring Ummat an-Nabi (s) with everything to eat and drink and yet we complain. I am speaking about certain groups of people, not everyone in general. Allah gives us everything and still we complain. He gave us in dunya what He did not give to anyone before us, especially the Sahaabah (r), who slept on mattresses made of straw. Today we sleep on big mattresses and still we are not happy, we have to change them every two years.

Wa la’in shakartum la-azeedanakum.

If you thank Me, I will give you more. (Surah Ibrahim, 14:7)

Are we thankful or are we complaining to each other? Complaining is not accepted in tariqah and Shari`ah.

Wa law istiaqaamoo `ala at-tareeqati la-asqaynaahum maa’an ghadaqa.

If they had (only) remained on the (right) Way, We should certainly have bestowed on them rain in abundance. (Surat al-Jinn, 72:16)

Everyone has a tariqah, a way. Allah guided him to a way in order to reach Him. If you keep straight on that way, it will lead you to Siraat al-Mustaqeem and you will reach your goal. But Allah said, wala in shakartum, “If you thank Me.” Today we take everything for granted, thinking that we need everything; we need three or ten bathrooms! When we look for a house we say, “We need more bathrooms.” (...audio cut...) I remember back home in Damascus we used to get water from a well and during the cold months of December and January, the water was so cold that we got wounds on our hands. We had to make wudu with that water five or ten times a day and our hands froze! Today Allah (swt) gave everything for Ummat an-Nabi (s). Look at how much we have to say thank you for! “Yaa Rabbee wa la’in shakartum.”

Look at what is happening in some Arab countries. They don’t even have bread to eat, as they are surrounded by enemies and war. How will they survive? Does anyone think about it? When you see the news you want to change the channel to see something pleasant so as to make you a little happy. Alhamdulillah, we have water in our homes and if we don’t have electricity, we use generators to get water. Prophet (s) was asking for water and there was no water to be found anywhere, so then the question was how to get water, as no one from Sahaabah (r) had water. They said, “There is no water, Yaa Rasoolullah.” Prophet (s) asked for a small pot, the kind you cook Arab coffee in. They brought that pot and put it in front of Prophet (s) and he placed his hand in it and opened his fingers, and just like the staff of Sayyidina Musa (a), water began to gush out from between his holy fingers with maximum speed! Prophet (s) said, “Call people to make adhaan and to take wudu.” They heard Sayyidina Bilal (r) (call the adhaan) and they took wudu from the hands of Prophet (s)! Ibn Mas`ud (r) was clever as his only intention was to drink from the holy hands of Prophet (s). And then they prayed Fajr.

Is that happening with us? No way! You want everything ready-made. If you don't get it ready-made you curse, and too many unpleasant words come from your mouth. You go home and see that your wife did not cook, you begin to complain. Why? There is nothing but complaints between wife and husband, children and parents, sister and brother. This is the time of complaining! Prophet (s) came to teach us to surrender. With all that (ease) we still don't thank Allah (swt), we don’t make du`a and say, “Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem” everytime we begin to eat. Don't come and complain when something doesn’t work, as that happened because you didn't begin it with “Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.”

Kullu `amalim lam yabda’ Bismillahi fa huwa abtar

Whatever deed you do without reciting “Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem,” at the end you will find that deed difficult.

Say “Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem” before everything you do, and Allah (swt) will give you what you desire. Despite everything that Allah has given us, we are still careless and complaining and making sins. After Prophet (s) prayed Fajr, he sat with the Sahaabah (r) and asked:

Sayyidina ibn `Abbas (r) narrated:

The Prophet (s) was sitting with his Companions and said, “Who are the ones with the most imaan, that astonishes and stuns me?” He asked the Sahaabah (r), “Did you hear about them or can you figure out who these people are?” They looked at him and thought, “Who can be of the best imaan?” They said, “The angels, who are always under Allah's Order in everything; it must be the angels.” The Prophet (s) said, Wa kayfa laa tumin al-malaaikata wa ’l-amru fawqahum yarawnahu, “How can the angels not have strong imaan when they are in the Divine Presence and they see what they see? Of course they have the best imaan. No, they have imaan, but there are others with the best imaan.” The Sahaabah (r) thought some more and said, “If it is not the angels, then it must be the Prophets.” The Prophet (s) said, “How are the Prophets not going to have imaan when Allah (swt) reveals to them morning and evening and they hear Allah's revelation through Jibreel (a), who brings them the message, or Sayyidina Musa (a), who talks directly as Kaleemullah? How can they not believe when it is being revealed to them?” Then the Sahaabah (r) looked at each other and said, “If not the angels and not Prophets, then it is us. How is it not us and we are following you?” And the Prophet (s) said, “How do you dare to say ‘us,’ and how can you not have imaan when you are among the Prophet (s) and see what he is bringing to you? No, there are others who have the best imaan. The people with the most imaan are those coming after me, who believe in me although they did not see me, and that means coming after you, O Sahaabah! Those are in truth my brothers!”

Prophet (s) closed his eyes on all of our complaining and making sins day and night, and showed us that we have the best imaan! So the Muslim ummah today who say, “Laa ilaaha illallah Muhammadun Rasoolullah” have the strongest faith, even though they didn't see Prophet (s).

Sayyidina Anas (r) added to the hadith that he heard Prophet (s) say:

قَوْمٌ يَجِيئُونَ مِنْ بَعْدِكُمْ فَيَجِدُونَ كِتَابًا مِنَ الْوَحْيِ فَيُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ وَيَتَّبِعُونَهُ فَهُمْ أَعْجَبُ النَّاسِ ، أَوِ ، الْخَلْقِ إِيمَانًا

Qawmun yajeeoona min ba`dikum fayajidoona kitaaban mina ‘l-wahiyy fa yu’minoona bihi wa yat-tabi`oonahu, fahum a`ajabu ’n-naasi imaanan.

They will find a book, the Holy Qur'an, from revelation, they will believe in it and they will have the best imaan.

O Muslims! Don’t think that what Allah (swt) has given Ummat an-Nabi (s) in the Last Days will continue forever and ever! Allah (swt) said in the Holy Qur’an:

اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ

Iqtarabati 's-sa`at w ’anshaq al-qamar.

The Hour approached and the moon split. (al-Qamar, 54:1)

Idhaa zulzilati ’l-ardu zilzaalahaa,wa akhrajati’l-ardu athqaalahaa, wa qaala’l-insanu maa lahaa.

When the Earth is shaken to her (utmost) convulsion and the Earth throws up her burdens (from within),

and Man cries out (distressed), “What is the matter with her?” (Surat al-Zalzalah, 99:1-3)

When the Earth is going to shake and turn everything upside down; Allah (swt) has mentioned it. It can come today, tomorrow or even after ten years. We have to wait and believe in what Allah said as that is our faith.

Afdal al-`ibaadah intizhaar al-faraj.

The best of worship is awaiting an opening (relief) from difficulty. (Tirmidhi)

May Allah (swt) make us thank Him for the imaan He gave us and the love of our Prophet (s) He gave to us. May we love Allah and Prophet (s) more every day!
