Pre-Zhuhr Suhbah at Private Residence
Allah (swt) gave specialities to the Sahaabah of Prophet (s) and not everyone can be a Sahaabah. All of them are like stars who guide you to the right way. I was looking at (this mureed) and an ishaara, signal, came from Mawlana Shaykh saying that Allah said in the Holy Qur'an:
قُل لَّا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَى
Qul laa as'alukum `alayhi ajran illa al-mawaddata fi 'l-qurbah.
Say (O Muhammad), "I do not ask you for a reward except the love of my family."
(Surat ash-Shura, 42:23)
That means, “Make sure they are happy on the Day of Judgment with no limitations,” because we know some scholars say it only refers to Ahlu ‘l-Abaa, the closest ones to the Prophet (s), who are Sayyidina `Ali (r) , Sayyida Fatima az-Zahra (r), Sayyidina al-Hassan (r) and Sayyidina al-Husayn (r), and of course Sayyida Khadijatu ‘l-Kubra (r). However, it refers in fact, to all of his Family, those who are related to him. The four khalifahs are all related to him: Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) due to the Prophet's marriage to Sayyida `Ayesha (r), Sayyidina `Umar (r) due to his marriage to his daughter Sayyida Hafsa (r), Sayyidina `Uthman (r) who married two of Prophet's daughters Sayyida Umm-Kulthum (r) and Sayyida Ruqayya (r), and Sayyidina `Ali (r) who married Sayyida Fatima (a).
SubhaanAllah, the hint that came from Mawlana was the hadith:
أصحابي كالنجوم بأيهم اقتديتم اهتديتم
As-haabee ka 'n-nujoom bi ayyihim aqtadaytum ahtadaytum.
My Companions are like stars (on a dark night); whichever of them you follow, you will be guided.
(`Abd ibn Humayd, ad-Daraqutnee, ibn `Adiyy, ibn `Abd al-Barr,
with unsound chains but the meaning is sound.)
Further, that means Mawlana is saying, “If you take only one hadith and you follow it, you will be guided,” and he added to the meaning, “The Prophet (s) made it so wide for people to come inside that the Prophet (s) said, ‘If you follow any one of my Companions you will be guided.’ And it might be that you read only one hadith and followed it, and you will be guided, but more than that, ‘If anyone carries the name of any Sahaabi, that Sahaabi will be responsible for the person who carries that name until the Day of Judgment.’”
For example, if your name is `Umar, which out of love for Sayyidina `Umar (r) you were named that, so you will carry the characteristics of Sayyidina `Umar (r). If you are called “Abu Bakr,” you will carry the characteristics of Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r). If you are called “`Uthman,” you will carry the characteristics of Sayyidina `Uthman (r), and if you have the name “`Ali” then you will carry the characteristics not only of Sayyidina `Ali (r), but also of all Ahlu ‘l-Bayt, because he is part of the five who are under the abaa of Prophet (s)!
That Sahaabi will then carry you to the presence of the Prophet (s) on Judgment Day. So (this one) carries the characteristics of Sayyidina `Ali (r) and he looks like him and represents him. Someone might similarly have the name `Umar and carry those characteristic and the same goes for `Uthmaan and Abu Bakr.
That is advice for people to name their children (with names of Sahaabah). However, people are saying, “Oh, we live in western countries, we need a western name,” but then you are losing the physical appearance of that Sahaabi or Sahaabiya, although in the long run the relationship with that Sahaabi or Saahabiya is still there because it doesn't depend on the name you give, it depends on the name in the Presence of Allah Almighty. So the real names, especially for Ummat an-Nabi (s), are all under the names of Sahaabah. Every child that is born will be called with the name of a Sahaabi and although his parents might give him a different name, his connection is there, it is not changed.
May Allah (swt) give us the barakah of Sahaabata ‘n-Nabi (s) and dress us with it! You don't know when benefits may come in such associations and that is why such meetings elevate you, make you feel happier, and reveal to you such secrets through your heart. Allah (swt) gave a way out to every servant of His. Look at what he said in a hadith:
اضنوا شياطينكم بقول لا اله الا الله محمد رسول الله فان الشيطان يضني بها كما يضني أحدكم بعيره بكثرة ركوبة وشيل أحماله عليه
adnoo shayaateenakum bi qawli la ilaha ill ‘Llah Muhammad rasoolullah fa inna ’sh-shayaateen yadna bihaa kamaa yadnaa ahadakum ba`eerihi bi-kathrati rakoobati wa shayla ahmaalahu `alayh.
Make your Shaytan tired by saying, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah.”
Exhaust your shaytans by saying la ilaha illa allah Muhammadu rasulullah. For verily the devils get exhausted by it just as one of your camels gets exhausted by excessive riding and putting a crippling load on it.
How do you make him tired? When you say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah,” he has to carry all the sins you made. So keep saying, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah,” and make your Shaytan tired! In old times they used to change the animal you are riding or loading because the animal would get tired; similarly Shaytan gets tired by loading up all your sins on himself when you say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah.” That is the Prophet (s) giving us a hint, "I know you are going to do sins in every moment, but take your sins and load them on Shaytan by saying, ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah,’ and then after some time he will give up hope, saying, ‘We give up hope in that person.’”
That is enough.
Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
