The True Thankful Servant

in the Time of Sayyidina Musa (a)

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

29 December 2014 Jakarta, Indonesia

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Alhamdulillahi ‘Lladhee jama`naa tahta hubb an-nabi (s) wa tahta hubb al-mawlid an-nabawi ash-shareef, a`aada ‘Llahu ta`alaa `alaynaa fee kulli sanatin marraat wa marraat.

We thank Allah (swt) that he kept us under the wings of Prophet (s) and he made us to remember his birthday, Mawlid al-Nabawi, that Allah honored that day because of the honor of Prophet (s), who said:

من حوسب عذب

man hoosib `udhdhib,

Whoever is taken to account will be punished (Bukhari)

Prophet (s) said whoever will be audited, judged by Allah (swt), for sure he will get punishment because all of us have done sins. So if Allah wants to judge us we are going to have punishment. Prophet (s) said to Sayyida `Ayesha. “Yaa `Ayesha, ask Allah (swt) not to judge us.” And this applies to us; if Prophet (s) said that to Sayyida `Ayesha what about us? Millions of times over, millions and millions of times we have to ask Allah not to judge us, because if He judges us He will punish us. Allah (swt) gave everyone so many chances to repent, as much as you want ask Allah to accept your repentance, Allah will forgive you!

Don’t despair of Allah’s mercy! Truly Allah forgives all sins and truly He is The All-Forgiving, The Most Merciful. (Surat al-Zumar, 39:53)

Allah (swt) will forgive all sins. He is al-Ghafoor al-Raheem, but ask Him!

ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ

Call on Me, I will answer you. (Surah Ghafir, 40:60)

“Ask Me, I will give what you want but don't forget Me, remember Me!” Grandshaykh `AbdAllah Fa'iz ad-Daghestani, may Allah bless his soul, related a story. “One time Prophet (s) was sitting with Sayida `Ayesha and they were talking about the Last Days.” How many Signs of the Last Days Sayyidina Muhammad(s) has predicted and mentioned? If you read Sahih Bukhari or any other Hadith you will see a lot of signs that Prophet (s) mentioned that appeared already. We are in a crucial time, in the Signs of the Last Days, so don't expect too many years more as soon that day is coming!

In Madina and Mecca at that time most of the food was not like in the Subcontinent or Asia where they eat mostly rice, in Middle East countries they eat mostly bread, So Prophet (s) said to Sayyida `Ayesha, “Yaa `Ayesha, we grind wheat between two stones and from what comes out we make bread whose grain is like sand from the small pebbles that are crushed. (That is why it is Sunnah to have water when you eat, because many Sahaabah (r) choked from the stones in ground wheat.) So we are eating wheat mixed with stones that sometimes make us choke, but there is coming a time when a big mistake from the Ummah will happen. In the Last Days it is going to be different; my Ummah is going to eat bread of wheat ground very fine like powder with no stones, no leaves, nothing except pure wheat. We eat bread that chokes us, but they eat bread that does not choke and there is a difference: we say, ‘Alhamdulillahi rabbi ‘l-`aalameen’ and in the Last Days they won't say shukr or hamd to Allah!” Fa waajib `alaa kulli Muslim wa muslima, an yashkur Allah (swt).

لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ

If you thank Me, I will give you more. (Surah Ibraaheem, 14:7)

Every Muslim and Muslimah must thank Allah (swt) for everything He gave to them. Allah said, "If you thank Me, I will give you more." Prophet (s) said, “We are saying shukr nut they will not say shukr in the Last Days when they eat pure wheat, fancy bread.” Look, today is is as Prophet (s) mentioned about the Last Days, we all eat very fine bread and in this Ummah, many of us don't make shukr.

Here is another story, so we will understand more. Sayyidina Musa (a), always the custom, the habit of anbiyaullah in their lives is they like to be shepherds (over livestock) because they are shepherds of the Ummah. They like to have sheep or goats and take them in the desert for siyaaha, touring. One time Sayyidina Musa was not happy with the situation going around at that time, he went into not a desert but like a valley near a big mountain and he walked until from far away he saw a cave, and there was a sound coming from the cave but he was not understanding. He approached and began to hear a voice reciting something. He was worried to approach more and that voice will say, “Why are you coming here?” But he wanted to know who is that, so he approached nearer and heard a man saying, Subhaan alladhee fadalanee `alaa katheeran minman khalaqa tafdeela, “Praise be to Allah (swt) Who favored me more than many of what He created, He gave me more than He gave all of them.”

Sayyidina Musa went forward and looked in the cave and he saw a man in sajda. He waited, he didn't bother him, and he waited until he was sitting on his back.

Sayyidina Musa looked at him and said, "O my brother, how do you say, ‘Praise be to Allah that He has favored me more than anyone else?’ I am seeing you don’t have legs or arms, only a head, a torso, and that is it. How He favored you? He didn’t favor you."

That man said, "No, He favored me! Yaa Musa, Allah has granted me something that He did not grant many and I am very happy that Allah made me Muslim. He favored me to be Muslim and if Allah didn't love me He would never have made me Muslim."

He was one of the people who believed in Sayyidina Ibraheem (a). At that time people lived long lives, so he was one of the believers of Sayyidina Ibraheem that lived until the time of Sayyidina Musa (a). He said, "Allah favored me to be Muslim and I am proud of that. " Allah granted all who are here to be Muslims and that is a favor from Allah (swt) for which we have to make shukr to Him day and night, not to forget Allah! If you thank Me, I will give you more. So we know now the importance of shukr. Prophet (s) was telling Sayyida `Ayesha that now we choke with the bread and we make shukr, and there is coming a time when they won't choke on their bread and they won't make shukr.

Sayyida `Ayesha looked at Prophet (s) and responded out of unhappiness that the Ummah won’t make shukr, saying, "May Allah give them sickness in their teeth that they will never come out from it!" and she wanted to continue and Prophet (s) stopped her, saying, "Don't continue!"

In the previous time before this incident, they never saw except very few people with diseased gums or teeth. There were no dentists at that time, but there was no decay that ate the teeth and made them black. In that time it was rare because they made shukr to Allah when they ate, but because of the du`a of Sayyida `Ayesha now all the Ummah has decayed teeth. Grandshaykh said had Prophet (s) let her continue with her du`a, every human being would have to take all his teeth from his mouth at a young age! For that reason we have to make shukr day and night to Allah (swt) that He made us from Ummat an-Nabi (s) and He made us to accept Holy Qur’an and Islam, that is the biggest ni`mat, favor!

We must not complain, “This food, this ni`mat I don’t like,” as everything Allah gave to us is a ni`mat. If Allah gave you the flu and you could not breath, what would happen? You would suffer all night. If Allah closes your nose on both sides, what will happen? You might suffocate and die. Allah (swt) is giving us everything and we have to thank Him, especially those who are looking for naseeha, the tawsiya that we have to go out and carry all our lives to be min ash-shaakireen, the people who thank Allah (swt)!

That is why we begin the naseeha, tawsiya, with man hoosib `udhdhib, “the one who will be judged will fall into punishment.” For that reason, ask Allah (swt) not to judge you and thank Him for what He gave you and inshaa-Allah you will be successful in dunya and Akhirah.
