Be Clean Ones, not a Fox or a Snake

(Translated from Turkish)

Shukr! Shukr to Allah Almighty that He (swt) accepted us to stand in His Divine Presence! The greatest honor for Mankind is for Allah Almighty to accept him in His Divine Presence! This is the greatest honor and there is no any honor other than this. We may say, “Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Yaa Rabbee! Qawwi da`fanaa fi ridaak! May You strengthen our weakness. Yaa Rabbee! We are Your weak servants; do not leave us in this weakness. May You grant us strength, may You grant us joy and may You make us have himmah (zeal), so that with this himmah of ours we may keep Your honorable servanthood!”

The greatest honor for Mankind is service to Allah Almighty. What is the meaning of doing any service other than this? Let’s say a man has a donkey and he keeps feeding his donkey (or his horse) all the time and takes care of it very well. Every morning he wakes up to take care of it, wiping and washing it. What is it? An animal. He takes great care of it. Okay, so what about yourself? Are you cleaning yourself? You take great care in cleaning your horse, but how do you arrange yourself? Where is your cleanliness, your purification for He Who is your Master, Who is your Creator, Who is your Lord?

The people of this time in their society, or “High Society life” as they call it now in their invented language, do not use water either for their bottoms or for their upper parts. We would call the people who have no tahaarah, purification, “the ones with dingleberries.” What is the meaning of “dingleberry”? Now in this season there is grass everywhere and after some time passes, barley and wheat will grow and sheep and goats will eat these with great joy as they like the greenery very much. They eat from this side and from the other side and they can't hold their (waste). We would call them “sheep with dingleberries,” which means they eat and at the same time deficate from the other side. Animals do not know about tahaarah, how can they know? They would call them “sheep with dingleberries.” And now people are the same: they eat and they don’t clean their bottom parts, they don't do tahaarah, cleaning. What does this mean? They become “people with dingleberries”!

Cleanliness is the base of our religion, tahaarah is the pillar of religion and a person who has no tahaarah has no value! If one dies without tahaarah, he dies being far away from his religion and faith! May Allah (swt) not make us from those with dingleberries, we should be clean! Ad-deenu nadhaafa, “Religion is cleanliness.” You should be clean and your life should be clean. You yourself should be

honest, your work should be honest, you should not have fights and disputes, you should be organized, you should have tahaarah, you should be skillful and you should not be evil!

A person who has no tahaarah is like sheep with dingleberries. A person who has no "religion factor" in his life, in his or her expression, has no value, which means “maziyyat,” merit, right? It is something that gives honor to Mankind. What is it that gives Mankind the most honor in dunya? Is it the abundance of his wealth? Is it the abundance of his money? Is it his occupation? Is it that he has a great job? None of these can give Man the real honor, because all of these are temporary and do not belong to him! A person who cannot arrange himself, who has no merit, is considered in the four-legged class or he leaves with the dingleberry ones.

Astonishing! Today’s lesson is: ad-deenu nadhaafa, religion means cleanliness. You should be clean in your work, in your doings, in your eating and drinking, in your talking and dealings, and you should be true and clean. What is the order of religion for us? It says, “Be clean! Be true ones!” But there is no one who pays attention to cleanliness. The whole world has become people with dingleberries. If you say, “Be true,” there is no true one left.

Let us tell a story so that our suhbah becomes cheerful. A fox was friends with a snake. They hung out and went to places together. Finally, they reached a river. The fox was going inside the water to cross to the other side and the snake said, “O my friend! We came all the way here together, but now I cannot enter into this water as I am scared.”

The fox said, “What can we do then? The water will carry me away. You are a fox, you can move fast and cross it, but the water will carry me away! Then what can we do? How can we go together?”

The snake said, “I may hold on to you like this, wrapping myself around you, and we cross together. Then we can separate and each one of us go on his way.”

The fox being a fox said, “Okay, no harm, we can do like that.” So they crossed the water like that and after they got out of the water the fox said, “Okay, you may get off me now and we walk together again.”

The snake said, “No, I can't come loose, it is not my habit. I can't let go of my victim, laa budda, not possible! I will overcome you, you are my provision.”

The fox said, "Okay, what can we do? Inna lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji`oon!” The fox faked a cry and said, "I accompanied you all this way," and it started crying. "Let us say goodbye for one last time, let me see your beautiful face. Come and show me your face!” And the snake is stupid, but the other one is a fox! So the snake came out and stood like this right across its face. The fox said, “Let me look,” and immediately cut its head off! Then the snake started to come off like this; it started to come loose. When it came loose, the fox didn't leave it, of course; he straightened the snake like this and said, “O my friend! Being a true one is like this. You have to be all straight like this to be a decent one. This is how you can be a true one. Now you are all straight. You wanted to cheat and eat me, but it didn't turn out that way. Now you have become all straight, so come loose now!” and the fox made the snake loose and laid it like this. “Now you became decent! How good you have become now.” And kicking it with its back feet, it left.

Being a true, decent one is like this. These people also fell into this situation. There is no true Man left; everybody wants to be foxy, tricky, and for this they run away from religion because religion does not accept foxiness; religion accepts lion-ness, it doesn't accept to be foxy ones. You should be a lion if you want to have religion! On the other path all the unbelievers have some kind of foxiness, but being foxy brings no result. The fox is describing to be all straight. It says, "The Right Path is like this, all straight.” People now have no other job than planning foxiness to each other; everyone is a fox in some way.

“Hey! Walk straight, walk right!”

“We can't walk right, Shaykh Effendi! What is the time we are living in now? This century is the High Society life and we want to live as we like, to do all kinds of foxiness.”

Then they will make you as a snake and the fox will eat you and lay you down all straight! This is your end, snakes and foxes! Everywhere is filled with men with fox attributes and snake attributes; therefore, they don't want the truth, they don’t want religion, because does a man of foxiness want religion? No. Or a man who bites, does he want religion? No. Therefore, the people of the 21th Century have become miserable as some are foxes, some are snakes. Islam will come and Mankind, our humanity will rise; otherwise, this world is finished: they will fight, crush and finish each other. May Allah make us far apart from them!

Keep your religion, be honorable and you will find honor in dunya as well as in Akhirah. Aman yaa Rabbee! Tawbah, astaghfirullah. Tawbah, astaghfirullah! Fatihah.

Is this good? This is good, is it not so? Today’s suhbah gave the exact photocopy of today's people; is that what they call it? It showed their exact identityQ The situation of people who live in this time is exactly like this: either they are foxes or they are snakes.

May our day be in khayr. May khayr, goodness come upon us. May Allah Almighty not expel us from His servanthood. Yaa Rabbee! You know. May You make our end turn to be good. May Allah protect us from wars, battles, earthquakes. Yaa Rabbee! May our day be good, may our homes be joyous, may our hearts be happy with faith. May He (swt) grant all of us His Way and may You send those who will gather Your servants to Your Way, O Allah!
