Awliyaullah Are Absent From People, Present With Their Lord

Shaykh Nour Mohamad Kabbani

23 January 2025 Fenton, Michigan USA

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Alhamdulillahi Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen wa ‘s-salaatu wa ‘s-salaam `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin wa `alaa alihi wa ashabihi ajma`een wa man tabi`ahu bi ihsanin illa Yawmi ‘d-deen wa `alaa sa’iri ‘l-Anbiya wa ‘l-mursaleen wa ‘l-Awliya wa ibaadillahi ‘s-saliheen wa alayna ma`ahum ajma`een, yaa Arhamu ‘r-Rahimeen. Laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billahi 'l-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem.

Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi, yaa Sultan al-Awliya. Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi wa Mawlay. Madad, yaa RijaalAllah.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

Alhamdulillah, away from everybody with hardly anybody, comfortable. It is said that Waliyullah likes to be inactive. They like to be away from people and in an active state according to people, so when people look at them, they don’t even miss them. Where are they? Awliyaullah are active with Allah (swt), of course. They are in continuous worship. They are always in remembrance of Allah (swt) but they’re not active with others. They are not active with people. Khumool means to lay low.

Awliyaullah have said the others like the drum. When I read that example, I asked, “Why a drum? What’s special about the drum?” You can hear the sound of the drum from far away. I checked AI. I don’t go to Google anymore. A drum has a resonance chamber. Have you ever heard of that? Who is smart here? Nobody? Alhamdulillah, even better. Basically, it’s an enclosed structure. When it’s empty, the sound resonates so it can produce a loud sound that people can hear from very far away. I checked how far the human voice can reach and how far a drum can reach. It’s almost double. Why? Because it’s empty on the inside.

Those who claim they are saints, those who claim they have a secret inside, a noor or a maqam, or whatever it is, or a big station, their name reaches far away because they’re empty. They are empty from reality. They are empty from the truth. They are empty from sincerity. They are empty from what really matters in the way of Allah (swt). That’s why they like activity. They want to be known, “Where am I today? Where am I tomorrow? Where am I next week?” They like their name to resonate very far away because they’re empty inside like a drum.

Awliyaullah have said the sadiq, sincere one, who really has something inside of him, is inactive among people but very active with Allah (swt). Alhamdulillah. I never asked for this but it’s a custom, it’s done, but there’s no need. Those who want will come. If you are full, do you ask for food? No, you throw the food away. If you are not thirsty, do you ask for water? Only those who are thirsty ask for water as Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said. If they are not thirsty for this knowledge, why are you showing yourself to them? They are not interested. If you click on other people’s views, in one hour there are 50,000 views. Our suhbahs hardly go beyond one thousand in one month. That means the one not seeking water does not go to the fountain, so why are you upset? Why are you sad? The one who is empty on the inside reaches everybody because when you hit it, that sound resonates. May Allah (swt) forgive us.

We are happy laying low. We are happy being dormant. We are happy being idle. That’s a perfect mureed. You’re on the right way, Saleem. Don’t brag. Don’t claim. What’s the point? If you’re empty on the inside then you want dunya but if you are full on the inside with Allah (swt)’s Love, you don’t seek anything else anymore. That’s a small introduction because we have a few people here. Alhamdulillah, it’s quiet and calm but still people came from DC, from Jersey, from Burton. May Allah (swt) always keep us together.

This is the weekend of Isra wa ‘l-Mi`raj. May Allah (swt) bless Rasoolullah (s) with the best of blessings, with the highest of blessings, with the most beautiful of blessings. May Allah (swt) keep him ever higher and higher. Your honor is raised when he gets higher and higher because you’re his Ummah. The higher the honor of your Prophet, the higher your honor. May Allah (swt) raise him higher and higher.

He went on Isra. What did he see on the road? He went at night. How can you see anything at night? That is another miracle. It is said he went with Sayyidina Jibreel (a) on the road. When he was on the road, the example of dunya was unveiled to him. He first went over land because land signifies your ego. Your ego is what is inside the body. Land signifies your physical being. Heavens signify your spiritual being.

There are so many meanings in the event of Isra wa ‘l-Mi`raj but we take what is beneficial for us. As Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, you don’t give to the little child a red ruby because the child prefers a red lollipop, so we take as much as we need. What did Rasoolullah (s) see on that journey? The state of dunya was revealed to Rasoolullah (s). He saw a woman with bare shoulders and that represented the dunya. Have you seen the Galas recently? Most of them have off the shoulder dresses. That is the character of one who is trying to hunt, trying to grab, trying to get you. She had on all the decorations that Allah (swt) created. Even one of the decorations of dunya makes you look.

She said, “Yaa Muhammad. Look at me so I can ask you.” Rasoolullah (s) did not respond.

He asked, “Who is this, yaa Jibreel?”

“This is dunya. If you responded to her, your Ummah would have chosen dunya over Akhirah.”

The way of Rasoolullah (s) is not to choose dunya over Akhirah. It is not to look and respond to dunya and what it wants from you. After that, he saw an old person and that person said, “Yaa Muhammad. Look at me.” He did not look or respond. He asked Jibreel (a), “Who is that?”

“There is not much left from the age of dunya as there is not much left from the age of this old person.” That was fifteen hundred years ago.

The way of Rasoolullah (s) is that when dunya calls you, when dunya seduces you, when dunya offers you beauty and whatever you desire, you should not respond, you should not look, otherwise you will prefer dunya over Akhirah. Be careful. Why don’t we follow the path of Rasoolullah (s)? Why do you run after dunya too much, O insaan, as if it’s never going to end? They run after positions and levels and ranks and professions and occupations and work and trade or whatever it is.

Awliyaullah have said that when Allah (swt) created all the occupations and He presented them in Pre-Eternity, everybody chose an occupation. Some people are farmers, some are carpenters, some are blacksmiths, some are goldsmiths, some are governors, or whatever it is. They chose their occupations. There was a group that said, “We don’t like anything.” Awliyaullah said, Allah (swt) showed them worship and the levels of Awliyaullah. They said, “Yaa Rabbee. We chose to be at Your Service.” They dumped all occupations, they shunned all posts and positions and professions and work and whatever it is.

Allah (swt) said, “Because you chose to be at My Service, all of them will be at your service.” I’ve heard this so many times, Allah (swt) said, “O dunya, serve the one who serves Me.” Dunya and whatever is in dunya has an order by the Creator to serve the ones who are in the service of the Divine. Allah (swt) also said, “Because of their service, I will make you an intercessor for them. I will make you intercede on behalf of everybody who knew you, helped you, supported you and loved you.” It’s both ways. Allah (swt) created occupations in this dunya so people can be busy but certain people only chose the service of Allah (swt). It’s a win-win for both.

What do you choose, O insaan? Rasoolullah (s) showed you the example on the Night Journey over land. Allah (swt) showed you the example of dunya. It’s a glamorous being, always calling you. The moment you wake up it says, “Come to me. Come to my beauty. Come to my glamor. Let me dazzle you.” Don’t they say, “Let me dazzle you tonight”? Alhamdulillah, I don’t watch any galas. It’s all shut off. There is no cable in my house. There is no Instagram or Facebook. They tell me to log in but I don’t have a login.

Rasoolullah (s) did not respond. He did not look at dunya. He did not turn around to look at her. Otherwise, his Ummah would have preferred dunya over Akhirah. When the occupations of this dunya were created, there was a group of men and women that said, “Yaa Rabbee. We would rather be at Your Service.” Be from them. Be at the service of Allah (swt). Why do we run after something that will go away? That is wrongdoing. Allah (swt) does not like the wrongdoers.

Do you remember Yusuf Bey? May Allah (swt) have mercy on him. Also send Fatiha to him. Don’t forget these people. They loved Mawlana. Every time we asked him to make du`a, he would say, “O our Lord. We have wronged ourselves.” The one who wrongs himself lets his life pass in asking for something other than Allah (swt). If your life passes and all you were after is other than Allah (swt), how wrong are you?

They never went to church, the temple, the mosque or in their room to pray for the Creator. They let their life pass like that, dealing with occupations, promotion after promotion. Until when? Until you fall from the top six feet under. There were senators who died in office. So you get promotions from the office until the graveyard.

Those who let their lives pass asking for other than Allah (swt) have wronged themselves. What do the people of tariqah do? They erase the imprint of other than Allah (swt) from their hearts. Why do you say, “Allah (swt), Allah (swt), Allah (swt)”? So you remember Allah (swt). Why do you do dhikr khafi, by the heart? So that the power of that word and that energy enters your heart. When it enters your heart, it displaces everything else and erases everything else. Ahlu ‘t-tariqh, the people on the way of Rasoolullah (s) are busy with Dhikrullah in order to erase the engravement of other than Allah (swt) and to purify their egos from all the bad characteristics and desires because that is what prevents you from ascension, mi`raj.

First you know your ego and what it desires, that is over land. He saw so many people there. He saw a man carrying firewood on his back and he keeps adding more until he can’t move but he is still putting more. He asks Jibreel (a), “Who is this one?”

“This one has taken the trust of others. Others put their trusts with him and in him and he’s asking for more but he’s not able to return their trusts. He’s not able to keep his promise to them.”

There are five professions that begin with “waw.” Don’t take that because that will be your example. You take the trust of others and you’re not able to keep your promise, you’re not able to deliver the trust back to them. That is wilaya, wizara, wisaya, wiqala, and waadiya. The first one is wilaya, governorship. People trust you. The second is wizara, ministership. The third is wisaya, the one who is performing the will of others and to implement it. How many people are playing with that? The fourth is wiqaala, taking care of the affairs of others. The fifth is waadiya, when somebody gives you something to keep for them. Stay away from these five professions because their example is like the one who takes the trust of people and he is not able to return their trust.

Over land, Rasoolullah (s) saw a lot of characteristics of the ego. When you get rid of these characteristics then you ascend. You have mi`raj. Allah (swt) said about Sayyidina Isa (a):

Innee muttawafeeka. I am extracting you. Wa rafi`uka ilaya. I am lifting you up.

Behold! Allah said: "O Jesus! I will take you and raise you to Myself and clear you (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection: Then shall you all return unto Me, and I will judge between you of the matters wherein you dispute. (Surat Ali-`Imran, 3:55)

Awliyaullah have said that means, I am extracting you from your ego’s desires and characteristics. You have to be like `Isa (a). You have to reach the maqam of `Isa (a). He was extracted from the wrongdoers. Allah (swt) will extract you from your own ego and its desires, wants and characteristics. He will, not you. Where did Isa (a) go? Up. Ascension. Innee muttawafeeqa, I’m extracting you from among the wrongdoers. That is your ego and its characteristics. Wa rafi’uka ilaya, I am elevating you to Me. That is Fana.

When you reach that level, Allah (swt) will open. People ask for the end and they don’t know the beginning. They want to become a high one, a strong one, a pure one, an enlightened one and they are not starting with the beginning. What is the beginning? Don’t look to dunya. Do you look to dunya? The question is, “When do I not look to dunya?” That is the million dollar question. Start from the beginning. When dunya called Rasoolullah (s), he did not look at her.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. This is the weekend of `Isra wa ‘l-Mi`raj. May Allah (swt) allow us to know the characteristics of our egos and ask Allah (swt) to save us from that. That’s why you need Jibreel. You need your own Jibreel, not the Archangel Jibreel. That is not for us. He only comes to Anbiyaullah and to certain Awliyaullah. He came to Sayyida Maryam (a) but we are not at the level. You need somebody who is connected to the spiritual world to tell you what is what.

May Allah (swt) always allow us to be with them. I think it’s enough. Are you looking at dunya, Adam? May Allah (swt) forgive us. May Allah (swt) always keep us together with Awliyaullah on our night journey. Why night? Because it’s in the darkness. You have to go into the darkness of yourself first and then you ascend into the Heavens, to the World of Light, to the light of your heart and soul. First, from the darkness to the light and then if Allah (swt) has destined for you to be from the ones in His Presence, you disappear from darkness and light, both are gone. You have dark veils and light veils. Both of them have to go. That is Fana. Then you have Baqabillah, you are only existing by Allah (swt), not by the darkness of yourself and not by the light of yourself. Everything becomes perfect, even.

Allah (swt) knows best. May Allah (swt) forgive us. Ameen.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
