Nawaytu'l-arba`een, nawaytu'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu'l-khalwah, nawaytu'l-riyaadah, nawaytu's-salook, nawaytu'l-`uzlah lillahi ta`ala fee hadha'l-masjid
Ati` Allah wa ati` ar-Rasula wa uli'l-amri minkum
Obey Allah, obey the Prophet (saws) and obey those in authority. [4:59]
We explained in the previous session that some of the awliyaullah are the engines, and they are like the turbine of a plane, turning quickly in order to fly.
You have to reach a level of speed on the ground that enables you to fly, don’t you? Then these engines, these turbines, have to move very fast. When that speed is reached, then you can make the plane fly. So awliyaullah, according to the level of every person, are trying their best to bring us to that speed at which they can fly us high.
If we cannot reach that speed, then we are still on earth. We think that we are flying but we are still not flying; the plane is still running on the runway but it cannot go up.
What is the speed that our plane, signifying our selves, has to reach in order to fly? And this is what we said yesterday about Sayyidina Bayazid al-Bistami when he asked the three main questions that he was posing and he said, "Ya Rabbee, what I need is the real guidance from You. That is why I left my will to Your Will.” Is that not what we said, you were here? “I left my will to Your Will.”
That is the basic reality or basic speed, the turning speed that makes you fly; but if you look deeply into what he said, you will find there is still one major issue that is not resolved. He said "My ego asked for the pleasure of dunya, my soul asked the pleasure of jannah (paradise), and Abu Yazid is asking for You, Ya Rabbee.”
Then he explained what we explained yesterday: "If I follow my ego I will be an oppressor and if I follow my soul then I will be from sincere people and if I follow what Bayazid wants I will be struggling in the way of Allah (swt). That is real but what I want is hayaatun haqiqi, and to reach real guidance I have to leave my will to Your Will."
What did awliyaullah say when they came after Bayazid al-Bistami? They said, “Bayazid al-Bistami fell into a mistake by saying I am leaving my will to Your Will - he showed his will.” The awliyaullah that came after him said, “Who are you to leave your will?” The wali were coming after him, because their understanding is expanding and increasing. That wali said, “Ya Abayazid, that is `ayn al-iraada” - that is iraada also. What you need to do is to close your books [Mawlana shuts his eyes]…Nothing. No talk. That is why in seclusion there is nothing except awraad that you are ordered to do by Shaykh and to try to make you to get rid of your iraada. Awliyaullah, although he said that, but still that is not, that is still Bayazid al-Bistami in a very high level, but awliyaullah like to comment on each other; they like to stick pins in each other; they like to joke also - not serious, serious, serious. Prophet (saws) said, “I saw Allah coming to me laughing.” It means you have to show a smile, and you have to show seriousness. There are people who are serious all the time - they don’t even smile; they are always angry.
Grandshaykh said that the turning point for that plane to take off is “that speed” and “that speed” is trying as much as you can to leave your will to Allah’s will. Although some wali said to Bayazid al-Bistami “That is `ayn al-iraada,” – yet for us it is the speed at which the plane can take off.
And he said that “they say,” and you are here and you can confirm or not, “that men reached the moon and walked on the moon.” He asked, "Why do we have to believe what they say?" In any case, if we say that we believe what they say, why don’t they believe what we say? Why do only we have to accept what they say to the people and people will not accept what we say? If they want us to believe what they say then they have to accept what we say, and what we say is that in Laylat al-Isra wal-Mi’raj, as man was able to reach the moon, Sayyidina Muhammad (saws) was invited to reach the Divine Presence and reached qaaba qawsayni aw adna.”
People wonder “How did the Prophet (saws) reach qaaba qawsayni aw adna and we know the Prophet (saws) went with body and soul, not just his soul, and that he reached that level.” Huh?
When he returned from that presence, the divine presence, his mattress was still warm. This means that he went that distance at a great speed. We cannot speak of even 300km/second, is it not doctor, professor, can we say that anymore? We cannot speak of the speed of light anymore, it is beyond that. Is there any speed beyond the speed of light? Teach me…I am asking a question, you answer. [Not that we know of.] There is no speed faster than the speed of light. Although we know that Allah said:
قَدْ جَاءكُم مِّنَ اللّهِ نُورٌ وَكِتَابٌ مُّبِينٌ
Qad ja`akum min Allahi Nurun wa kitaabun mubeen.
Now there has come unto you from God a light, and a clear divine writ, (Surat al-Maa'dah, 5:15)
And the light here is into the Holy Qur’an because he put wa `atif; wa means the nur is different than kitaabun mubeen and the scholars say the nur is the Prophet (saws). If that is nur then it is traveling at 300 km/ second. The only constant in life is the Prophet (saws).
Then it might be that someone will ask, “What kind of speed?” You cannot ask the One who created speed, "What kind of speed?" You cannot limit the Creator with the creation. Allah (swt) can create a speed millions of times faster than the speed of light because He is the Creator. Have scientists found everything? If scientists found everything then you can say that they reached the level of the Divine Presence. You cannot say scientists came to know everything then they became Allah - istaghfirullah, that is impossible. What they have found is not even a drop in the ocean,
Grandshaykh (may Allah bless his soul), said that, “One time the Prophet (saws) came at the time of salat adh-Dhuhr, and Sayyidina Bilal stood up and said, “The time of Dhuhr has come; do I call adhaan?” The Prophet (saws) answered, "la, na`am" La tu`adhdhin, tu`adhin.” He said, “Don’t call the adhaan.” He didn’t even finish that and he said, “Call the adhaan.” SubhanAllah! What kind of telescope, was it like Hubble, that gave the Prophet (saws) the ability to see the smallest fraction of a second when to call and when not to call. Then the Sahaaba said, “Ya Rasulullah, we saw something we cannot understand…first you said, ‘Don’t call’ and then ‘call.’” He (saws) said, “In that fraction of a second the sun moved from its place.” What we know today in reality is that the Prophet (saws) said in that moment that the whole universe moved.
So if we want to make a comparison between the quantum reality of Isra reality, we can now make a discussion of that reality. Allah (swt) made this universe is expanding, it is always expanding. These stars and galaxies are always expanding in infinite directions yet there is no direction there. It moves, and it is completely out of direction though it is moving in the way that Allah (swt) planned. It has to be up to the point. Also in Isra and Mi’raj, that movement of the Prophet (saws) in one second has expanded to qaaba qawsayni aw adna (it didn’t need time), Kun fayakoon. Allah cannot say, “Kun fayakoon” and create the whole universe? Yet He is creating and expanding universes within this universe; those universes are growing and expanding. In that one second the solar system moved, as the Prophet (saws) said to Sayyidina Bilal, “The whole universe moved 5000 heavenly years.” Similarly in Isra and Mi’raj time expanded for the Prophet (saws) to reach the Divine Presence and that Divine Presence expanded also. Allah (swt) is not in the Divine Presence. Allah (swt) is beyond that, beyond distance, beyond space, beyond time. That is the manifestation of Divine Names.
The divine manifestation is the expansion of knowledge that the Prophet (saws) was acquiring in order to perfect the Prophet (saws) in order to enable him to reach qaaba qawsayni aw adna. That is not yet the Divine Presence-that is only the point when Jibreel said “I cannot continue. You go.” Where was that qaaba qawsayni aw adna? No one knows. That knowledge will be opened in the time of Mahdi…that secret that awliyaullah feel shy to ask.
There are secrets in the hearts of awliyaullah that would make us melt if they wanted to bring them out. Sayyidina Bayazid al-Bistami has seven servants. He was ordered to recite the names, because the name of every wali carries a secret. To reach Abayazid al-Bistami there were only a very few before him. After Prophet (saws), Sayyidina Abu Bakr, Salman, Qaasim, Jafar, it means four - four before him. Sayyidina Abu Bakr, Salman, Qaasim grandson of Sayyidina Abu Bakr and then Jafar. He said, “I was ordered to recite the names of these four awliya seven times - seven times during the day and night. He said, “Every time I recite their names, as soon as I finish the seven times, (he has to recite seven times a day and he recites them seven times) each and every time I finish reciting, some of my clothes become burned and some of them become red from the blood that comes from my body from the `ishq (the love) that is created in the names. When I pronounce the names, that `ishq burns me from inside and so my body secretes blood and my clothes get burned. I have assigned one servant to change my clothes and get me new clothes for every time I finish the names. Seven times during the day and night Bayazid al-Bistami has to change his clothes because of the manifestation of awliya on him.
What do you think happens if you mention Sayyidina Muhammad (saws)? That is why awliyaullah, when they make darood on the Prophet (saws), they melt…but there is another word; they evaporate, or dissolve. When they mention these awliyaullah of the Golden Chain, they are completely annihilated; they dissolve, dissolve, dissolve, until they are no longer present. Who is present is Sayyidina Muhammad (saws)! What do you think when they begin to do dhikrullah? Anytime they mention any Beautiful Name and Attribute to the Name encompassing all Names, which is Allah, they are annihilated in that beauty. Today there are some people, (may Allah give them guidance, we say and bring them to understand Islam), who perform cremation. What happens to the body? It is burned completely - nothing left. What is left? A little bit of ashes. That is an example.
When Bayazid Bistami asked for complete submission to Allah (swt), the real guidance that is taslimiyya, he cremated his body. There is not really another word for it, but he was annihilated: his body dissolved from the heat of love generated by mentioning the Name of Allah (swt).
When awliya reach that level they completely turn to ashes. That is why they are reaching the level to pull out the secrets of the Prophet (saws). Like what happened to Prophet (s) when he went in Laylat al-Isra wal-Mi’raj.
Grandshaykh said, may Allah (swt) bless his soul, that “scientists try …they are very, very meticulous and precise in every scientific laboratory, in every experiment they do… they try to find every possible understanding in order to prove what they are speaking about. They are so willing to know the secrets of the earth and the skies that are around them. And they have theorized about this and about that…” Grandshaykh said, may Allah (swt) bless his soul, that “awliyaullah are the real scientists. From them that reflection … because they are the real scientists, the reflection of the real scientists affects the scientists on earth because of the traces on earth coming from the real scientists.” And he said “for us there is a whole universe that no one knows beyond this universe and the speed and the greatness of that universe is millions of times bigger than this whole universe that is around us and this universe is only designated for awliyaullah. From there they get their knowledge. This universe we are in is a reflection of that universe.”
That is the imitation of the real universe that we are in and there is another universe that not even one wali is allowed to go into. That one is for Sayyidina Muhammad (saws). And even in Day of Judgment no one will understand what Allah (swt) has given to the Prophet (saws) in his universe. That is for Habibullah (saws). He said, “What I am speaking of is something that la`n-Allah al-kaadhibeen. Allah (swt) cursed the liars and I am not a liar. You can see that reality one day. If not in dunya, then in akhira you are going to see that what I am saying is real. We cannot show miracles because we have left off miracles; we cannot show a miracle. It is out of question for awliyaullah of the Golden Chain as they have already thrown from their hearts all kinds of miracles and they will not show anyone any kind of miracle. That is not from their policies, if we can use that word. And that is why, when I ask you a question that is very important, answer, because I am not going to use a miraculous power to get an answer when I can get it from you directly. To say you know more. Of course I know more but don’t let me to go to check it. It is something related to dunya and you are more expert than I in that so give the answer. Don’t let me use my power to go to see what is there or what is not.”
He said that, “What you are expecting from that imitational universe that we are living in is a reflection of the universe that is beyond it. That universe is greater than this by millions of times and in it Allah (swt) created creations that no one knows except what the Prophet (saws) wants awliyaullah to know and Prophet (saws) is their Prophet and he is to them Prophet (saws) and if they appear in dunya the whole dunya will dissolve.”
