“O Mankind! Verily We created you from male and female and the best among you are the most pious!”
Yaa ayyuhan-naasu inna khalaqnaakum min dhakarin wa untha wa ja`alnakum shu`ooban wa qabaaila li-ta`arafoo inna akramakum `inda-Llahi 'atqaakum, inna-Llaha `aleemun khabeer.
O Mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has taqwa. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware. (Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:13)
Taqwa is what the Holy Qur'an is all about until we will be brought before Allah (swt) on Judgment Day and be asked. The Prophet (s) mentioned that on the Day of Judgment a man will be brought forth, and the Prophet (s) asked, “Who is the bankrupt one?”
And the Sahaabah (r) said, “The one who lost his money.”
The Prophet (s) said, “The one who lost his deen is bankrupt.”
Look at this hadith, which should make us fearful of Allah (swt)! The Prophet (s) said, “The bankrupt is the one with no deeds; he did nothing according to Shari`ah of Allah and did not do anything according to the religion of Allah.” The Companions (r) were astonished, “How can there be no `amal for him if he fasts and prays?” The Prophet (s) said, “Yes, even if he prays and fasts.” So that will be for someone who opposes the way of the Prophet (s). For example, as the Prophet (s) said, “Fitna is sleeping and the one who raised it is cursed,” similar for the one who spies or backbites!
So the one who does ghiyba and nameema makes his `amal empty and ruins his good deeds by crossing the boundary of fitna. We must protect our salaat and sawm and sadaqah by avoiding ghiyba and nameema. May Allah protect us from these very evil deeds which destroy the belief. You see a masjid united and after a short time it splits up and you find each group with a different leader. Allah (swt) said, “Hold fast to the Rope of Allah and don’t be split into groups!”
وَاعْتَصِمُواْ بِحَبْلِ اللّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلاَ تَفَرَّقُواْ
W `atasimoo bi hablillaahi jamiyy`an wa laa tafaraqoo.
Hold fast to Allah's rope and don't separate. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:103)
Allah likes oneness and to be together. We observe today that Muslims are split into groups in every place. Every group is happy with what it has. The constitution of Allah is Holy Qur'an. We must be happy with Holy Qur'an as our constitution and not with the constitutions of Mankind. And Allah said, “Have taqwa!” and if it is difficult for you then, as Allah said, “Have taqwa and be with saadiqeen.” If you are with them, then you are protected; if you are by yourself or fighting one another, you will never succeed.
May Allah (swt) make us with them and among them and seeking forgiveness of Allah (swt)!
