Jumu`ah Khutbah at As-Siddiq Institute & Mosque (ASIM)
(Opening du`a.)
O Muslims, brothers and sisters! Nothing is requeste from this dunya but obedience to Allah (swt), Who said in Holy Qur'an: Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.
Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.
Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)
Who has authority on you? Your parents, your scholars, your country, it depends, but most important is to obey Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s) and who obeys the Prophet obeys Allah, as He said in Holy Qur'an:
So take what the Messenger assigns to you, and deny yourselves that which he withholds from you. (Surat al-Hashr, 59:7)
It means, “Leave what Prophet (s) forbade and take what he ordered.” And best is to have faith, those who have imaan, as Allah said in Holy Qur'an:
You are the best of nations evolved for Mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong and believing in Allah. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:110)
Look how nice it is said for the people of this time, and when Allah says something that is it (Haqq). He is saying, “You are the best ummah that Allah has sent to humanity. You call for good and prohibit what is wrong.” There is a story which describes imaan. it is mentioned in the time of Sayyidina Musa (a), one of the people who believed in him, his neighbor, who was always thinking and reflecting on the Greatness of Allah and His Creation:
Alladheena yadhkuroonallaaha qiyaaman wa qu`oodan wa `ala junoobihim wa yatafakkaroona fee khalqi ’s-samaawaati wa ’l-ard.
Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting and lying down on their sides, and contemplating the creation of the Heavens and the Earth. (Surat Aali `Imraan, 3:191)
That neighbor was always thinking that Allah created us for `ibaadah; he was a worshipper. Then one day Sayyidina Musa (a) was preparing to go to Toor Sinaa, Mt. Sinai, to meet with Allah (swt) and to request some things for his Nation, as mentioned in Nuzhat al-Majalis.
That neighbor came to Sayyidina Musa (a) and said, “I feel I don’t have faith, although I pray and I read Tawraat and Zaboor, but I feel I don’t have faith, I need faith.” Today we say we need imaan, our imaan is not perfect, not complete. So he said, “When you go to Toor Sinaa, I have a request for Allah (swt) to send imaan, true belief to my heart, as now I consider my imaan incomplete. I need imaan that fills me up, not to think about anything but Allah (swt) and I request that when you go, as you are Kaleemullah, you speak with Allah directly, so ask that from Him for me.”
In summary, then Sayyidina Musa (a) went and he received what he received of orders from Allah and at the end he said, “Yaa Rabb, my neighbor is requesting from you imaan. can you give him some imaan.
Allah said to Sayyidina Musa (a), “Go tell your neighbor that I have sent him some imaan.”
Sayyidina Musa (a) went home, straight to his neighbor's house and knocked on the door but there was no answer, finally the door opened and he went inside and found his neighbor sitting facing their Qiblah, Masjid al-Aqsa, and not moving.
He said, “O my neighbor! Allah has sent you imaan, good tidings!”
That man did not move, he was staring and not responding, so he told him again, and again there was no response, and a third time there was no response. So finally Sayyidina Musa (a) nudged him and he fell down, but still did not move.
Then Allah said, “Yaa Musa, I just sent your neighbor imaan in the smallest measurable amount and even if you were to cut him into pieces he would not feel it, so leave him alone until I take his soul!”
That is the effect of a tiny amount of imaan.
Sayyidina `Umar (r) relates: I was sitting with the Prophet (s) and the Prophet (s) said, anbiyoonee bi afdali ahli ‘l-imaani imaanan? “Can you tell me who has the best imaan?” The Sahaabah thought and they said, “It is the angels.” The Prophet (s) said, “How are angels not going to have the best imaan when they are in Paradise and they see Allah and what He gives them? No, it is someone else.” And they said, “The anbiya.” Prophet (s) said, “What prevents them to have imaan when they see prophecy and Jibreel (a) is coming to them?” And they said, “Ash-shuhadaa, the martyrs who fought for Allah's sake and were with their prophets.” And the Prophet (s) said, “Of course they have that, hum ka-dhaalika wa yahiqqu lahum, they were given shahaada by Allah.” In another narration they then said, “Your Sahaabah, yaa Nabiyullah.” The Prophet (s) said, “How are my Companions not going to have faith when I am speaking with them and they speak with me?” Then the Prophet (s) said, “Aqwaamun fee aslaabi ’r-rijaal, men who are unborn, they are in the backs of their fathers in sperm form. I am seeing them.” The Prophet (s) saw them, because he said, aqwaamun fee aslaabi ’r-rijaal, “they are still in the sperm position, waiting to appear. They never saw me, but they see papers, yajidoona al-waraqa al-mu`alaq fa y`amaloona bimaa feehi, “They will find papers,” (in that time paper was made of animal hides, leather or leaves), “they will see it hanging and verses of Qur’an have been written in it, and they accept and they do what has been ordered for them to do on these hanging pages.” Fa ya`maloonaa bimaa feehi, “They do according to what is written there.” (al-Haakim, al-Bazaaz, as-Suyuti)
As related by Sayyidina `Umar (r), Sahaabat an-Nabi (s) were sitting with the Prophet (s) and he said, “Tell me about who has the best imaan,” and they said, “al-malaa’ika, the angels,” and the Prophet (s) said, “Of course they have to have best imaan because Allah created them in Heaven, so what stops them from having it? No, they are someone else.” And they said, “al-anbiya, the Messengers that Allah sent and generously gave them a message to deliver to their people and they are of two types: one has a message to deliver and others are Prophets but with no message,” like the brothers of Sayyidina Yusuf (s) were prophets, but Yusuf was a Messenger delivering a message. And the Prophet (s) said, “What would prohibit them from having best of imaan when Allah generously gave them the status of being Prophets and Messengers? bal ghayrahum, not them, others.” And they said, “Then the shuhaada, martyrs, those who died supporting the Messenger that Allah sent in their time and they died fee sabeelillah.” And the Prophet (s) said, “Not them.” And they said, “Yaa Rasoolullah, then who has best imaan?”
Look, Allah sent one atom of imaan sent to that neighbor of Sayyidina Musa (a) and he was drowned in that, swimming in it! And what was the answer of the Prophet (s), when he asked the Sahaabah (r), “Who are those with the best imaan?” Prophet (s) said, Aqwaamun fee aslaabi ’r-rijaal yaatoona min ba`dee yuminooona bee wa lam yarawnee, wa yusadiqoonee wa lam yarawnee, “They believe in me without seeing me and they confirm what I say without having seen me.”
Who are they? Are they not you? “You are the best of nations evolved for Mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong and believing in Allah”, and, “They confirm and believe in the Prophet (s) without seeing him.”
In every moment the Prophet (s) sends us imaan from his Mercy Oceans and keeps us strong to hold that without fainting or becoming unconscious! “And they will have a Book written and raised up,” meaning the Holy Qur'an, “and they will believe in it and follow it without seeing me. Those are the best of humanity in their imaan, no one can come to their levels, they are in a high level.” That is mentioned by al-Hakim, al-Bazaaz and by as-Suyuti. May Allah keep sending His Mercy on us.
Rahmatee wasi`at kulli shay fa-sa-aktubuha lilladheena yattaqoona wa yutoona ‘z-zakaat wa’Lladheena hum bi-aayaatinaa yoominoon.
My mercy embraces all things, therefore I shall ordain it for those who ward off (evil) and pay the poor due, and those who believe Our Revelations. (Surat al-A`raaf, 7:156)
“My mercy has encompassed everything and I will write it for those who have taqwa,” so we need taqwa every moment and we need to say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun rasoolullah” whenever we do something wrong, and remember that Hadith of Sayyidina `Umar (r), “They are people coming in the future who believe in Me and did not see Me.”
May Allah (swt) save us from what is coming, as major issues are coming.
