A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`alaa fee haadha 'l-masjid.

?????????? ?????? ???????????? ?????????? ????????? ???????? ???????

Ati`oollaha wa ati`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

Dastoor, madad yaa Sultan al-Awliya, Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani.

Dastoor, madad yaa Sultan al-Awliya, Mawlana Shaykh `Abd Allah al-Fa’iz ad-Daghestani.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

The benefit of going to school is to open your mind and increase your intelligence. Everyone is trying to study in order to analyze different issues. When I attended high school, we studied about renowned Arabic, English and French poets and we were taught to criticize their work. The aim was not to support and analyze, but to present a critique, to criticize and find the worst in that poetry. In the common academic system, they always show the worst without giving you a chance to find the rahmah. We had to criticize many famous poets, including Shakespeare and Dante, although I do not find it objectionable to criticize Dante as he turned Israa’ wa 'l-Mi`raaj into his own story.

And I was surprised to learn that a famous person that is condiered to be an Islamic scholar, who I won’t name, but who opened a university in Berkeley, the Zaytuna Institute, was actually defending Dante!

So as you are being taught to criticize, Allah (swt), in the eloquent language of the Holy Qur'an, is showing rahmah:

????? ????????????? ?????? ???????? ???????????????

Wa maa arsalnaaka illa rahmatan li 'l-`alameen.

(O Muhammad!) We have sent you not except as a Mercy for all the Worlds. (Surat al-Anbiya, 21:107)

Allah is saying, “Give people the rahmah, mercy.” We as Muslims need to understand that to learn is to show mercy to others, just as Allah is giving His Mercy to His Creation!

Grandshaykh `AbdAllah (q) related a story from Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q):

Once Abu Yazid al-Bistami (q) went for Hajj. As he held Baab al-Multazam, the door of the Ka`bah and began to pray there as it is a place where du`as are accepted, he said, “Yaa Rabbee! With the power that You granted me, give me permission to stop Iblees from corrupting human beings! I will imprison him so as he will not run after Muslims or humanity! Yaa Rabbee! Give me the power to stop corrupted people, to stop everyone from falling into badness by chaining Iblees!”

After numerous requests, Allah (swt) opened something to him and he fainted. He was in that state for some time and no one could move him or even push him right or left as he was very heavy and strongly held to the ground. Then after a while he began to crawl on his chest towards the Ka`bah, saying, “Yaa Rabbee, forgive me! Yaa `Afoow, ighfir lee!” What happened? When awliyaullah ask from His Mercy, Allah (swt) answers His Saints.

He opened to Abu Yazid (q) the oceans of His Endless Mercy and said, “Yaa Abu Yazid! I am giving that mercy to My Sinners, as they repeatedly commit sins and then repeatedly repent. They sin because they fall into mistakes from Iblees, so for whom will I send that mercy if not for the sinners? O Abu Yazid, do not interfere in My Will!”

Abu Yazid (q) had crossed a limit, but as he did that out of love Allah didn’t punish him, but rather made him faint and crawl to ask for forgiveness. Look at Allah's Mercy! They don’t teach you this in fiqh or Shari`ah, they always give you the hard ways and never show the rahmatullah. Those who claim they know something have to take and understand what is written behind the verses of Qur’an. That is why when Mahdi (a) comes, he will bring with him the secret of the Holy Qur’an and many secrets will be opened.

I was in a conference, meeting with a big `alim responsible for a huge university. He is a respectable, honorable, and humble person. We were speaking and suddenly it came to me to ask him a question regarding Sayyidina Khidr (a): Musa (a) asked Allah (swt) for heavenly knowledges and Allah sent him to the place where the fish jumped into the water. Allah said to him, “There, you will find one of My Servants.” So Sayyidina Musa (a) began searching for Khidr (a).

????????? ??????? ????? ?????????? ?????????? ???????? ???? ???????? ?????????????? ??? ????????? ???????

Fawajadaa `abdan min `ibaadinaa aataynaahu rahmatan min `indina wa`allamnaahu min ladunna `ilma.

So they found one of Our Servants on whom We had bestowed mercy from Ourselves and whom We had taught knowledge from Our Presence. (Surat al-Kahf, 18:65)

They don’t translate it this way in the Holy Qur'an; rather, they say Musa found “one pious person from among many.” Actually it says, “They found one of Our Servants on whom We had bestowed Mercy from Ourselves and whom We had taught knowledge from Our Own Presence.”

I asked him, “Why did the word ‘mercy’ come first and then the word ‘knowledge?’”

He said, “I am not an expert in Sufism.”

The other `alim said, “I cannot answer this,” and when I explained the meaning, he was very happy.

It states in the Holy Qur’an, “They found a pious man on whom We have bestowed Our Mercy and to whom We have taught knowledge from Our Own Presence.” So this means in order to enter Divine Knowledge, you have to receive mercy from Allah's Presence. That manifestation of Allah's Mercy has to dress you in order for you to be purified, as you must be clean to enter Divine Knowledge. If you are unable to reach Heavenly Mercy, you will never attain Heavenly Knowledge.

And that Divine Mercy is Sayyidina Muhammad (s), the Rahmat al-Muhda! Wa maa arsalnaaka illa rahmatan li 'l-`alameen, “(O Muhammad!) We have sent you not except as a Mercy for all the Worlds.” So  you will never be able to receive Heavenly Knowledge without mentioning “the Mercy to all the Worlds,” and Sayyidina Adam (a) is one of humanity that must be completely dressed in mercy from the Prophet (s) in order to enter the City of Knowledge and benefit from it.

The Prophet (s) was the first to be created from Allah's Light and that mercy was bestowed on him. Therefore, with every `amal you must say, “Yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolullah!” In previous times when people used to get into an argument, one person would say, “salloo `alaa an-Nabi (s)!” The prayers on the Prophet (s) with a heart that is present will make you think about him and you will feel that heart-to-heart connection, that will secure all you have in dunya and akhirah. So when Shaytan causes a fight between two people, say, “salloo `ala an-Nabi (s),” and Shaytan will run away. Iblees dislikes Sayyidina Adam (a) because of the Light of Prophet (s) that is in him; therefore, anyone who hates the Prophet (s) is a servant of Shaytan, and salawaat on Prophet (s) rejects bad things and brings good things.

Sayyidina Khidr (a) was ordered to get the mercy that Allah (swt) bestowed on him from the Reality of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), because tasawwuf opens the mind.

Allah (swt) said in the Holy Qur'an:

?????? ????????? ???? ??????? ?????????  ?????????? ???? ??????? ??? ????????? ??? ??????? ????? ????????? ????????? ?????????? ???????? ???????????? ???????? ?????????????

Inna fatahna laka fathan mubina, liyaghfira lakallahu ma taqaddama min zanbika wa ma ta akhkhar.

We have opened to you a distinguished, distinct opening, so as to absolve you from all previous and future sins that you will intercede on behalf of your ummah. (al-Fath, 48:1-2)

That opening is necessary. Then Allah says, “So as to absolve you from all previous sins.” I asked that `alim why is this mentioned, does the Prophet (s) have sins? A scholarly explanation does not give us the full understanding of this ayah.

Also, Allah (swt) said:

?????? ???????? ???? ???????? ??????????? ????? ???????? ??????? ??????? ????????

Alam nashrah laka sadrak wa wada`na `anka wizrak. Alladhee anqada zhahrak.

Have We not expanded for you your breast? And We removed from you your burden that weighed so heavily on your back.  (Surat ash-Sharh, 94:1-3)

?????? ????????????? ??????????? ??????? ????????? ?????????????? ????????? ???? ???????????

Inna a`taynaaka al-kawthar fa salli li rabbika wanhar inna shaaniaka huwa ’l-abtar.

To you have We granted the Fount (of Abundance); therefore, to your Lord turn in prayer and sacrifice, as he who hates you will be cut off (from future hope).  (Surat al-Kawthar, 108:1-3)

“We have given you a lot,” and, “We expanded your breast, as you were concerned for your ummah and always saying ‘ummati, ummati,’ and that is a great opening to you, that I am forgiving your ummah!” The Prophet (s) has no sins, he is infallible, so this means, “Whatever is before and after the time of his Message and his ummah, I am forgiving them!”

So instead of always searching for aayaat al-`adhaab, verses of punishment, look for the verses of mercy in order to open the hearts of people and to encourage them to do more! When we were speaking about making salawaat on the Prophet (s) a few months ago and made everyone feel happy, we began receiving many emails asking for more salawaat. We have compiled a list of sixteen or so salawat which people are trying to recite daily. The benefit of these salawaat is to try to show the mercy that Allah gave to humanity.

Allah (swt) asked angels to make salawaat on the Prophet (s) to raise his maqaam. As he is ascending, his levels are continuously increasing. All angels, those who have been created and those who will be created, are ordered to make salawaat on the Prophet (s). Also, as we have mentioned many times, awliyaullah can see Prophet (s) in their dreams. Shaytan cannot take the form of the Prophet (s), and no one can lie about it by saying they saw him if it is not true. Prophet (s) dictated these salawaat to awliyaullah, which contain lots of benefits for the ummah, and we mentioned some of these benefits.

Benefits of Making Salawaat

Tasawwuf teaches you how to show love, respect, and mercy for humanity. Universities and dunya institutions teach you how to criticize or critique everyone, not how to show mercy. Criticism is a completely different approach. So in order to encourage you to make salawaat, some of its benefits are:

  1. Wa minha kitabatu bara`atan min an-nifaaq, “To be written as innocent of falling into hypocrisy.” So any time you make salawaat, you will not be a hypocrite!
  2. Also, by making just one salawaat, in Allah's Vision you will be given innocence from Hellfire as well. Although you have bad `amal, one salawaat will be heavier on the Scale and will make all your bad `amal disappear!
  3. Anyone who makes salawaat, Allah (swt) will make him a neighbor to the shuhadaa, martyrs. That means you will be a neighbor of the Prophet (s), made clear in this verse of Holy Qur’an:

????? ????????? ??? ?????????? ??????????? ???????? ???????????????? ?????? ????????????? ?????? ?????????? ??????????? ?????? ????????? ?????????

Wa law annahum idh zhalamoo anfusahum ja’ooka f ’astaghfaroollaaha w ’astaghfara lahumu ‘r-rasoolu la-wajadoo ’Llaaha tawwaaba ‘r-raheema.
“With those from whom You have graced from the Prophets, from the Trustworthy, from the Martyrs and the Righteous Ones. O, what a beautiful fellowship!”
 (Surat an-Nisa, 4:69)

  1. Allah (swt) will order the angels to write the rewards of those who make salawaat on the Prophet (s) with a heavenly golden pen, to show how much respect Allah bestows on you for making salawaat! The surah describes all the golden and silver cups in Heaven and one benefit of salawaat is that the blessings are written with a heavenly golden pen.
  2. They inspire your heart to do more salawaat! That is why you see people increase their salawaat by making one, then two, and so on. So increase your salawaat and Allah (swt) will increase your rewards.
  3. When you die, the salawaat you made on the Prophet (s) will be ready for you when you enter your grave. The angels making salawaat will enter your grave and will make salawaat in the grave with you, which is how your grave turns into a paradise!

May Allah bless us! This will continue forever! Although many scholars throughout history and even today learned tasawwuf as part of their curriculum, people today are dropping tasawwuf. In many countries, tasawwuf used to be the first curriculum in Islamic universities, but now it has become uncommon due to the worldwide spread of wrong ideas and theologies. Now, tasawwuf is going down in people's heart, but not in the hearts of awliyaullah. So don’t hesitate, make salawaat on the Prophet (s)! Ahlu ’s-Sunnah wa 'l-Jama`ah love to make salawaat and any story that encourages them to love the Prophet (s) as that is your savings for Akhirah.

May Allah (swt) bless us and save us.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
