The Construction of Jerusalem and the Destruction of Yathrib

Signs of the Last Days, Part 1

Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

Zhuhr Suhbah (1)

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Salaam `alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh. Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een

I think everyone is noticing what is going on in the world today and events happening continuously behind each other. What we have to lean on and depend on is someone who says the truth, we cannot depend on someone that forms an opinion from his own analysis, like articles they publish in newspapers today, then everyone thinks in a different way and most of them differ in opinion. We have politicians that usually don't say the truth, they want their articles to be read that is why they try to mix everything together in order to make it more attractive. However, Allah (swt) wants the truth to be said, so who is the one eligible to say the truth? The one about whom Allah (swt) said:

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ

(O Muhammad!) We have sent you not except as a Mercy for all the Worlds. (Surat al-Anbiyaa, 21:107)

Truth always comes with mercy and Allah (swt) said about the Prophet (s), “We have sent you as a mercy,” so the one who has mercy is caring for the Ummah. Mercy, rahmat, is not only the Manifestation of mercy but it is carrying [burdens, sins]! The Prophet (s) cares for the Ummah, so Allah gave him that responsibility to care for his Ummah, which generally in the scholarly explanation includes all those from his birth to the end of dunya in the time of the Prophet (s), but actually even more are included, the Ummah is everyone whom Allah created!

Adam (and who is below Adam) will be under my flag, under my shafa`ah on the Day of Judgment, and I say it without pride. (Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

“Sayyidina Adam (a) and whoever is under Sayyidina Adam (a), the children of Sayyidina Adam (a) are under my Flag on Judgment Day,”and he is As-Saadiq al-Masdooq, the Most Trustworthy One, so Allah gave him that Message for us to hear it not from newspapers, but to hear it from the Prophet (s) directly and the Prophet (s) mentioned it because he is concerned about his Ummah and he cares about them so he predicted what is going to happen to them in the future. Allah (swt) mentioned it in Holy Qur'an:

سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا فِي الْآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنفُسِهِمْ

Soon will We show them our Signs in the (furthest) regions (of the Earth). (Surat al-Fussilat, 41:53)

“We want to show them Our Signs in the Horizons,” meaning, “Our miracles that appear long after the Prophet (s) that they must follow,” and “in the horizons” means:

اطلب العلم ولو في الصين

Seek knowledge even (if you must go) to China. (Bayhaqi in Shu`b al-Iman)

How far away was China in the time of the Prophet (s)? It was so far, and so even that is a horizon, where, “We will show them Our Signs of the Last Days and in themselves We are showing the Signs of Creation.” To create human beings is not an easy process. What makes up the human being? Allah created Sayyidina Adam (a) from mud and at that time everyone in Paradise was coming and looking, angels and even Iblees, saying, “Who is that?” They saw Sayyidina Adam (a) has no soul, that he is from fakhaar, hollow mud like pottery. His chest was hollow, empty from inside. “What is that?” they asked. What happened after that?

And I breathed into him of My Spirit. (Surat al-Hijr, 15:29)

“I have blown in him from My Word, Kun!” What element changed it? He was in Paradise, Allah put him in a situation that only He knows best, and everyone could see he is going to be khalifah on Earth, but he was not moving until that heavenly element, Qudra, Power, Taaqah, appeared and everything changed and he moved, without a charged battery! Allah (swt) gave him a spiritual, heavenly battery that has a start time and an end time, a beginning and an end, like all created things. When Allah (swt) sent that Ruh, Power, His Word:

إِنَّمَا الْمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ وَكَلِمَتُهُ أَلْقَاهَا إِلَى مَرْيَمَ وَرُوحٌ مِّنْهُ

Jesus Christ, son of Mary, was only Allah’s Messenger, [the fulfilment of] His Promise that He had conveyed to Mary and a soul created by Him. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:171)

Allah (swt) described that soul as, “Like a Word that came from Him, entered Sayyidina Adam (a) and then Sayyidina Adam (a) moved.” Who was watching besides the angels?

I was a prophet when Adam was between water and clay.

So who was watching the appearance of Sayyidina Adam (a)? I am not saying it, the Prophet (s) is saying it and the whole Islamic faith is based on him being As-Saadiq al-Masdooq, the Infinitely Most Trustworthy One, which is supported by continuous evidences from Allah! So he (s) said, “I was a prophet and Sayyidina Adam (a) was between mud and water,” which means he was seeing what was going on, as narrated in the Hadith of Jaabir:

رواه عبد الرزاق بسنده عن جابر بن عبد الله بلفظ قال قلت: يا رسول الله، بأبي أنت وأمي، أخبرني عن أول شيء خلقه الله قبل الأشياء. قال: يا جابر، إن الله تعالى خلق قبل الأشياء نور نبيك من نوره،...

When Jaabir (r) asked, “Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you, oh Prophet of Allah! What is the first thing that Allah (swt) created?” the Prophet (s) said, “The first thing that Allah (swt) created is the Light of your Prophet from His Light, O Jaabir.” (Musannaf `Abdu ’r-Razzaq)

And what is that Light?

Allah is the Light of the Heavens and Earth. (Surat an-Noor, 24:35)

Some scholars say from that Hadith:Qabadtu qabdatan min nooree fa qultu lahu koonee Muhammad. “I took one handful from My Light and I said to it, ‘Be Muhammad!’” For sure Allah (swt) dressed that handful of Light, Siffat an-Noor. That is how we can see in dunya, “Allah is the Light of the Heavens and Earth.”

Anything we can see is by the power of that Light. When the child comes from womb of the mother, he comes with eyes that can see.

Beware the vision of the Believer, for he sees with the Light of Allah. (Tirmidhi)

It means Allah gave permission to the mu'min to see what others cannot see through the Light of Allah (swt). Beware the vision of a mu'min, protect yourself and do good work, because he can see what is in your heart, you cannot hide from a Wali, a mu'min. The Prophet (s) said that one has the power of looking through the Light that Allah (swt) gave him, and he is As-Saadiq al-Masdooq, the Most Truthful of the Truthful! When the Prophet (s) went to Heavens in Israa’ and Mi`raaj, Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) did not have any doubt. What came from his mouth immediately and automatically was, Sadaqata yaa Rasoolullah, “You said the truth.” As soon as the Prophet (s) said, “I was taken by Jibreel,” without waiting to hear what he said, Sayyidina Abu Bakr (r) accepted without knowing what the Prophet (s) was going to say!

Going to Mi`raaj is not easy and what Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) said was without hesitation. He did not ask how a space shuttle can go up not more than 100,000 miles where there is no gravity, where everything is swimming in its orbit, with no gravity to keep everything in its orbit. Here in dunya gravity has to keep pulling to keep everything from floating away. Allah put these mountains like anchors, stakes, and wherever He put them the Earth was still shaking until He put Jabal al-Uhud (Mt. Uhud) and Earth surrendered.

Prophet (s) say said, “I went for Israa’ and Mi`raaj,”and Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) immediately said, sadaqta yaa Rasoolullah, “I accept whatever you say with no doubt,” and it also means, “I know, I was with you.”

If you do not aid the Messenger, then [know that Allah will do so, just as] Allah assisted him at the time when those who were bent on denying the truth drove him away, [and he was but] one of two. When these two were [hiding] in the cave, [and] the Messenger said to his Companion, "Grieve not; verily, Allah is with us." And thereupon Allah bestowed upon him from on high His [gift of] inner peace and diminished the cause of those who were bent on denying the truth, whereas the cause of Allah remained supreme, for Allah is Almighty, Wise. (Surat at-Tawbah, 9:40)

Like when they were hiding in the cave Ghari Thawr, and the Prophet (s) was lying in the lap of Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r), who was crying, and a tear fell on the Prophet’s face and he woke up and said, “Yaa Abu Bakr, why are you crying? Allah is with us. Don't worry, yaa Aba Bakr.” That is Maqaam al-Fanaa, he is with the one he loves at every moment! When the Prophet (s) narrated details of Mi`raaj, Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) said, “Sadaqta yaa Rasoolullah, You speak the Truth!” So the Trustworthy One is from whom we have to take our news, not from newspapers but from what Prophet (s) said to us, as Allah (swt) said in Holy Qur'an:

كُنتُمْ خَيْرَ أُمَّةٍ أُخْرِجَتْ لِلنَّاسِ تَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَتَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ وَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّهِ

You are the best of nations evolved for Mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong and believing in Allah. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:110)

Allah wants his Prophet (s) to be happy, so He said, “You were the best Ummah sent to humanity: you were and you still are and in the future you will be the best Ummah that Allah has sent, so don't worry! But due to some things that are going to happen, I am predicting you will be safe in Akhirah: I am not looking for your dunya, I am looking for your safety in Akhirah,” although Allah (swt) also said:

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

O our Lord! Give us goodness in this life and goodness in the Next Life, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. (Surat al-Baqara, 2:201)

“O our Lord! Give us good of this life and good of the Next Life and keep us in a good situation!” So the Prophet (s) looked at the Ummah and, as in the Hadith, he mentioned to his Sahaabah (r), and unfortunately today there are some who limit the Hadith, they zoomed in so deep until it makes them question everything, because they did not say like Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r), “Sadaqta yaa Rasoolullah!” They are investigating the sahat, authenticity of Hadith through the computer.

I was watching a documentary in Egypt, a discussion between two, and through the computer he claimed all Hadith of Sahih Bukhari are wrong, making people doubt! That is fitna. They don't want you to consult the Hadith, saying you should only consult Holy Qur'an. Do you actually believe the Prophet (s) has only 4,000 authentic Hadiths? Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (r) and all other imams, said, “I have memorized 300,000 sahih Hadiths and 300,000 false Hadiths. I memorized all of them to make sure that everything is in place.” That is why in many ahadith books other than Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, the sahih zoomed in so deep to make sure these ahadith have no doubt, but these are not the only ahadith. Do you imagine, on YouTube you can see some scholars have 45 minutes or one hour, 5,000, 10,000 or 20,000 hours of advice! What about the Prophet (s) sitting day and night with his Sahaabah (r) giving them advice, the Constitution of Islam and so on, is it based on only 4,000 Hadiths? That is why there are too many sihah: Tirmidhi, mustadrak (Bukhari and Muslim agreed), Ibn Hibbaan, and all of them have thousands and thousands of authentic, sahih Hadith, not only 4000!

So I am making the introduction of this series based on these Hadiths of what the Prophet (s) mentioned will happen, and he is the one who authorized that you must lean on what he says. He is our Prophet (s) whom Allah (swt) sent to humanity as Messenger and the Perfect One!

You are of the most exalted character. (Surat al-Qalam, 68:4)

Prophet (s) used to look in the mirror and say:

اللَّهُمَّ كَمَا أَحْسَنْتَ خَلْقِي ، فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِي

Allahumma kamaa ahsanta khalqee fahasin khulqee.

“O Allah! Perfect my khuluq, behavior as you perfected my appearance.” Every day Prophet (s) looked in the mirror and thanked Allah, saying, “As you have perfected me in my face, my hands and my legs, perfect me in my behavior.” He (s) is of exalted behavior and still he is asking Allah (swt) to perfect his behavior! How many times do we look in the mirror every day and we don't say that, we forget?

‘Be Lenient with Them’

He (s) said something very small as a title for what we are going to go through in the future inshaa-Allah, “Be lenient with them.” The Prophet (s) said to Mu`adh ibn Jabal (r), whom he sent to Yemen to bring the people to Islam, “Be lenient with the people of Yemen as they have soft hearts. They are the people of Bilqees, her grandchildren, who believed in Allah (swt) and His prophets, Sayyidina Sulayman (a) and Sayyidina Dawud (a), and they came surrendering to Sayyidina Sulayman (a).”

Prophet (s) said, “Be lenient with them,” so Mu`adh (r) did not enter the city, instead he put his tent outside the city, not like they declare today, “We want to go in,” entering the country by force, conquering the palace and putting themselves in control there. If you want to make a coup sit in a shack, then people will respect you, you are making yourself humble, lower your arrogance, don't look at, “Where am I sitting? I have to sit on a chair or bench (to be higher than others).” No, sit on the floor if you have no pain and if you have pain in your knees or legs it is okay to avoid sitting on the floor, but lower your ego, don't come with a very high ego. Why do they make a coup? Allah (swt) said in the Holy Qur’an kullamaa dakhalat ummatun laa`nat ukhtaha, “Every nation that comes curses the one that came before.”

He will say: "Enter the company of the people who passed away before you, men and jinn, into the Fire." Every time a new people enters it curses its sister-people (that went before) until they follow each other all into the Fire. Says the last about the first: “Our Lord! It is these that misled us, so give them a double penalty in the Fire. He will say: “Doubled for all!” but this you do not understand.

(Surat al-A`raf, 7:38)

The curse the previous because they are arrogant and think, “We are better.” Allah (swt) said, “No, no, that is not true, that is not the principle of it!” They think they are better than the one before them when the opposite is true and no one is out of that.

Once a lady and a man came to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), which I witnessed, and the man said, “Shaykh, pray for me.”

Shaykh Nazim (q) said, “Pray for what?”

The man said, “I am running for parliament. Pray for me to go.” He is a good person, I know him well.

Mawlana (q) said, “That is not your level, to be in parliament.”

The man said, “No, I want to.”

Mawlana said, “MPs are liars. If you want to be a liar, become a politican. They bought the people with their wealth, might be coming from somewhere unknown, to give the people some money, put some lies in his lecture, then he becomes on top. Do you want to be a politican? Then know you will become a liar.”

The Prophet (s) said to Mu’adh (r) when he went to Yemen, “Be lenient with them, be soft, don't attack and don't speak badly, speak good, nice things because they have soft, lenient hearts.” So he camped outside the city, not like they do today, confiscating the palace and occupying it! Whenever prayer time came they stood up, made wudu, washed themselves, and prayed. The people of Yemen observed them and from outside the city Prophet’s emissaries helped them and did good things for them from their tents, so the people liked them and they asked, “Can we pray with you?” In this way the treatment on their hearts began: from their leniency and softness they attracted the people’s hearts, so when they said, “Can we come and pray with you?” it developed further and after six months they took Shahaadah and became Muslim.

So the Prophet (s) gave advice to Mu`adh (r) be soft and lenient as then everyone will love us. Islam is softness, not hardship. That Bedouin came to the Prophet (s) and said, “There are too many principles in Shari`ah, I cannot carry it.”

A man came to the Prophet (s) and said, "O Rasoolullah! The rules of Islam became heavy on me, so give me news of something which I can maintain." Prophet (s) said, "Make your tongue wet with dhikrullah." (Tirmidhi)

The Prophet (s) did not say, “This is it, if you don't do it you will be dis-rewarded.” He (s) did not force him, he said to him something very simple and with that he (s) attracted him, connected him and pulled him like a spotlight attracting hearts. He said you obey and later you will begin to pray, so be lenient at first.

The Prophet (s) gave the Message over 23 years, not one to two years! Today they (extremists) want to give Islam by force and say, “If you don't Believe (become Muslim) we cut your neck!” when Islam did not insist on that! So of what we are seeing today, the Prophet (s) gave one injection with that Hadith, to open our minds about the Signs of the Last Days:

Mu`adh Ibn Jabal (r) related that the Prophet (s) said that among the signs of the Last Days were:

The restoration of Bayt al-Maqdis; the destruction of Yathrib and the destruction of Yathrib; the appearance of slaughter and the appearance of slaughter (bloody fight , fierce battle) the conquest of Constantinople and the conquest of Constantinople; (and) the appearance of the Dajjal (Anti-Christ).

Then the Prophet (s) struck his hand on (Mu`adh Ibn Jabal’s) thigh and said, “Verily this is the truth just as you are sitting here.”(Musnad Ahmad, Sahih Al-Jami` as-Saghir, #4096)

So it means the destruction of Yathrib and all its history and relics will disappear, and now they are all gone! When we were young we went to see the relics in Mecca and Madinah, now the expansion of the Haram has eliminated the relics, and `umraan Bayt al-Maqdis, now the city of Quds, has been built back up and they are even restoring the Temple of Sulayman. `Umraan means to renovate and make livable, to modernize to contemporary standards and to do that you must destroy all Yathrib that, like Bayt al-Maqdis, has 5,000 years of history! They used to bring cedars, the most expensive trees of Lebanon, to build Bayt al-Maqdis. Now that history has been destroyed through restoration of Bayt al-Maqdis and on other side they have destroyed Yathrib, the city of the Prophet (s)!

You will see the barefoot, naked, destitute Bedouin shepherds competing in constructing tall buildings. (Bukhari)

Now in Bayt al-Maqdis you don't see high rises, but in Mecca al-Mukarrama and Madinat al-Munawwarah you do, and [after reading this Hadith] when you see that, you open your eyes! When that destruction of Yathrib, the old city of the Prophet (s), happens, when they are andrasoo, not only demolished but they get rid of it so not even a pebble from old times remains, what will happen then?

Laa taqoomu ’s-sa`ata hatta taqtatila fi’ataan `azheemataan yakoonu baynahuma maqtalatun `azheema da`wahuma waahida.

Abu Hurayra (r) related that the Prophet (s) said, “The Hour will not appear until there will be two enormous groups fighting each other in a colossal battle, (and) their issue is one.”

The Signs of the Last Days will not come until two big parties fight a huge battle for one certain reason that you are going to see, and expect that destruction of Madinah, expect war after it, and you see the war is continuous! And after that war comes fathu Qunstantiniyya, the opening of Istanbul, which previously we thought meant “to take it from hands of the Romans,” so that is why the Prophet (s) said:

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : لتفتحن القسطنطينية فلنعم الأمير أميرها ولنعم الجيش ذلك الجيش (روه الإمام أحمد في مسنده).

La tuftahanna al-Qunstantiniyya wa la ni`ma ’l-ameeru ameeruhaa wa la ni`m al-jayshu dhalika al-jaysh.

Verily you shall conquer Constantinople. What a wonderful leader her leader will be and what a wonderful army that army will be! ( Musnad, Imam Ahmad)

That happened in the time of Sultan Mehmet al-Fatih and that is on a big marble banner put over his Mosque and means Istanbul will be opened by different kinds of groups fighting there, which is now happening; suicide bombings occurred, yesterday there were two people killed from suicide bombing and today from a car. So that is going to open many problems. When that happens, the Anti-Christ will come, khurooj ad-Dajjal, which we will discuss later.

The Prophet (s) was sitting besides Mu`adh ibn Jabal (r) and he knows people of the last time of the Ummah are going to question that, and he tapped on Mu`adh ibn Jabal’s leg and said:

Inna dhalika la haqq ya Mu`adh kamaa annaka qaa`id - This is truth, yaa Mu`adh! The Ummah is going to see that just as you are sitting with me, how you are present and seeing me and I am seeing you, this is going to happen.

That is not going to change: the beginning of the fight is the restoration of the Bayt al-Maqdis, which has happened, and demolition of the old city of the Prophet (s) which has happened, and the opening of Constantinople (Istanbul) to many immigrants. It will open its door for millions of refugees coming from different areas and there will be a fight there, which is what we are seeing now between Kurdish and Turkish, and we don't know what will happen in the future. Anyone will go into that country, America, Europe, Turkey and Saudi Arabia and a total of 44 countries are there, Constantinople is open for anyone from East to West who wants to come to fight! The Prophet (s) said it 1400 years ago, as it is haqq, reality, “as if you are sitting with me now and listening to me,” that is going to be haqq in the future. Allahumma salli 'alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin wa 'alaa aali Muhammadin wa sallim.

Hudhayfa (r) related that the Prophet Muhammad (s) said:

Prophecy will be in your midst as long as God wills it to remain there. Then it will be removed when God wills it to be removed. Then there will be Khilaafa (divinely-ordained rule) on the pattern of prophecy and so it will remain as long as God wills. Then there will come kingship (mulkun `ad) and so it will remain as long as God wills. Then it will be removed when God wills. Then there will come tyranny (mulkun jabariyya) and so it will remain as long as God wills it to do so. Then it will be removed when God wills. Then there will come Khilaafa on the pattern of prophecy. Then he kept silent. (Musnad of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, 4.273.)

When Prophet (s) was asked about what would happen, Anas (r) said, “The beginning of the Signs of the Last Days is Nubuwwah, prophecy, the coming of the Prophet (s), and the Prophet (s) came, and after that is Nubuwwah wa rahmat, that the Prophet (s) came with prophecy and mercy, then kings and princes, dynasties, the Umawi and `Abbasi and the Uthmaniyyoon, and then will come Mulkun Jabari, those who believe everything that happens is forced on us; they will only follow what they want in their mind and they will enforce what they say so people will not be able to have their own opinion, which is hegemony, tyranny.

So the beginning of the Signs of the Last Days is prophecy, then prophecy and mercy, then mulkun `adood, kingship, and then jabariyya. In another Hadith, first would come khulafaa, then umaraa, princes, after them mulook, kings, and then mulkun-jabariyya, the tyrants. Most of them now are jabaabira, only a few kings are left. May Allah accept from us to say, Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llaah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasoolullah `alayhaa namoot wa `alayhaa nalqa 'Llah inshaa-Allah!

Today what we explained was an introduction to the Signs of the Last Days. So what is one of the Signs of the Last Days? The restoration of Masjid al-Aqsa and the destruction of the old city of Prophet (s). May Allah forgive us.

That is the book of hadith al-Sunan al-Warida fi’l-Fitan wa ghawaa’iluhaa wa ’s-sa`atu wa ashraatuhaa, page 824, Hadith # 418. We will go through these Hadith in Rajab, Sha`ban and Ramadan as much as possible, to know what the Prophet (s) mentioned 1400 years ago.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
