Alhamdulillah, as usual, we see people from out of state. May Allah (swt) accept your visit. May Allah (swt) accept our visits out of state as well. We go on trips and tours when people invite us.
Alhamdulillah, we came back from Atlanta. I want to thank the hosts, Zia bhai and his wife, Dr. Aliya for hosting me and for arranging the wonderful events and all those who attended, and Shaykh Tagoo who is conducting Dhikr Naqshbandiyya in Atlanta. They do it once a month. Alhamdulillah. Inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) accepts what they are doing.
We go around to do what? Allah (swt) sent Rasoolullah (s). It is revealed in Surah Hijr. Allah (swt) said to Rasoolullah (s), asta`eedhubillah: Nabbi` `ibaadee.
نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
Nabbiʾ ʿibādī annī ana al-Ghafūru al-Raḥīm.
Tell My servants that I am indeed the Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surah Al-Hijr, 15:49)
Tell My servants, inform My servants. About what? Rasoolullah (s) was commissioned to travel. He went, from city to city, from village to village, from east to west--at that time it was Hijaz and beyond Hijaz, to do what? To tell the servants of Allah (swt) what Allah (swt) has revealed. I try to do the same thing. When I go around, what do I say? “Tell My servants.” Tell them what, yaa Rabbee? Nabbiʾ ʿibādī annī ana al-Ghafūru al-Raḥīm.
Tell My servants that certainly, beyond doubt, I conceal the faults of My servants, I am the One Who erases the sins of My servants, the One Who forgives the shortcomings of My servants, the One Who forgives the wrongdoings of My servants, the One Who will admit My servants to Jannah. What is Ghafūr? “I do it,” Allah (swt). Nobody else can do it. Nobody else can admit people to Jannah. Nobody else can say, “I am the one to take you to Jannah. I am the one to conceal your faults, forgive your sins, overlook your mistakes and admit you to Jannah.”
Allah (swt) says, “Tell My servants the good news. Tell My servants that certainly I am Al-Ghafoor, The Forgiving Who admits you to Jannah, Ar-Raḥīm.” He dresses you from the Mercy and admits you to Jannah.
O man! God has sent to many messengers with the same messages. The Lord of Heavens has sent the Seal of Prophets (s) with the same message: “Tell them I forgive, I overlook, I erase their mistakes, their shortcomings, whatever they have done. When they turn to Me, I forgive them. When they turn to Me, I give them from My Mercy and with that they go into Jannah.” Ana. “I admit them to Jannah, nobody else.” Don’t think someone else will admit you to Jannah. Allah (swt) admits whomever He mercies, whomever He forgives to Jannah.
وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ
wa anna ʿadhābī huwa al-ʿadhābu al-alīm.
And that My Penalty will be indeed the most grievous Penalty. (Surah Al-Hijr, 15:50)
Also, My Punishment is a very painful punishment. Allah (swt) said, “Tell My servants.” Who are the servants of Allah (swt)? Is there another god? There is no other god but people take things as gods, people take concepts as god, people take feelings as their god. Allah (swt) said in the Holy Qur’an:
أَرَءَيْتَ مَنِ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَـٰهَهُۥ هَوَىٰهُ أَفَأَنتَ تَكُونُ عَلَيْهِ وَكِيلًا
Ara’ayta mani ‘t-takhadha ilahahu hawa.
Seest thou such a one as taketh for his god his own passion (or impulse)? Couldst thou be a disposer of affairs for him? (Surah Al-Furqan, 25:43)
See the one who has taken his desires as his god. Human beings are either `abdu ‘l-hawa, the servants of desires, the servants of their likings, the servants of what they please to do, that is taking them here and there and they are obeying their desires, or they are `abdu ‘l-Llah.
When Allah (swt) says, “Tell My servants,” that means tell the ones who have freed themselves from their own desires. We all have desires but these ones are free. The mother of Maryam (a) is Hannah (a). She said, “Yaa Rabbee, I am giving You the one who is in my womb free.” That is mentioned. The ones who are free are the ones who are for Allah (swt). Free from what? Free from dunya and its service.
The servants of Allah (swt) are those who have freed themselves from the servanthood of their desires, from the servanthood of dunya. Look around. Who has freed themselves from the servanthood of their desires? When a desire pops up, what do they do? “Yes sir, let’s go.” Hundreds of thousands of them obey their desires. They are not free. They are the captives of their egos and they have been chained by their desires. Those who are free of desires have broken all of these chains.
Wa yadha`oo anhum israhum wa ‘l-aghlala ‘l-lati kanat `alayhim.
Wa yaḍaʿu ʿanhum iṣrahum wa’l-aghlāla allatee kānat ʿalayhim.
Those who follow the apostle, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (scriptures),- in the law and the Gospel; for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good (and pure) and prohibits them from what is bad (and impure); He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that are upon them. So it is those who believe in him, honour him, help him, and follow the light which is sent down with him,- it is they who will prosper." (Surat al-A’raf, 7:157)
Rasoolullah (s) has come to take away your burden and the chains that were on you. When Allah (swt) says, “Tell My servants,” that means, “My servants,” not the servants of dunya and desire, “That they will become the manifestation, the landing strip of My Mercy and My Forgiveness.” When we are not the servants of Allah (swt), rather we are the servants of something else, what happens? Wa anna ʿadhābī huwa al-ʿadhābu al-alīm.
Whoever takes other than Allah (swt) as their lord, as their god, as the one they obey, Allah (swt) says they will be in difficulty and hardship. Look around the world. Who is in difficulty and hardship? The whole world. Why? Because they have taken desires as their god. They have taken their agenda as their god. They have taken their whims as their god. They have taken whatever they fancy as their god. Isn’t that true? Look from east to west. They say, “I want to do this,” and they fall into difficulty. “I want to get this,” and they fall into hardship because they are `abdu ‘l-hawa. Allah (swt) is making them taste a little bit of that punishment in dunya because they have left the servanthood of God and they have followed the servanthood of dunya, nafs, hawa and Shaytan. You can see it everywhere.
He says, “Tell My servants, the ones who have taken Me as their God, that they will receive My Manifestations of Ghufraan, Forgiveness, Ghafooru ‘r-Raḥīm, from My Forgiveness and My Mercy. Those who have taken other than Me, they will be in severe difficulty and punishment.”
The message to the world is, follow the Messenger of Heavens. God will manifest His Holy Names upon everyone. He will manifest His Mercy, His Forgiveness, His Rida, Contentment and you will be in happiness. If you don’t, that is what you are seeing nowadays. Adhaab is everywhere because they have become `abdu ‘l-hawwa. Don’t be `abdu ‘l-hawwa.
What do you go around telling people? Nabbi’ `ibaadee, “Inform My people that I am surely The Forgiving, The Most Merciful.” That is what you need to do. He started with that. Allah (swt)’s Mercy has surpassed His Punishment. He says, “I am Forgiving, Merciful. My Rahmah is running to you.” And then He said, adhaabi, “My Ghadab, Anger, Wrath comes after.”
O insaan, O human being, run to be a servant of Allah (swt). Nabbiʾ ʿibādī annī ana al-Ghafūru ’r-Raḥīm. Wa anna ʿadhābī huwa al-ʿadhābu al-alīm. “Tell them I am The Forgiving, The Merciful, and tell them that My punishment is severe.” What do you see here? You see khawf and raja`, fear and hope. These are your two wings, O Muslim. You fly by the two wings. You fly by the wing of hope for Allah (swt)’s Mercy and you fly with the wing of fear from Allah (swt)’s Might.
Now people are looking at either this one or this one. Some Muslims only look at the fear side, “Fear Allah (swt). Fear Allah (swt),” and they neglect the other side. The other side, “Hope for the Mercy of Allah (swt) and do whatever you want,” and they neglect the fear of Allah (swt). No, the good Muslim, the perfect Muslim is the walking of the ones who are walking and the flying of those who are flying as Awliyaullah have said. They are flying with two wings: khawf and raja`, hoping for Allah (swt)’s Mercy and Forgiveness and afraid of the punishment of Allah (swt). These are the ones who are walking. They are walking with one foot of hope forward and one foot of fear forward.
Those who are flying are flying with the wings of uns and hayba, love and reverence. They are flying with that love to Allah (swt) and familiarity with Him and being close to Him with that hope. Uns, one wing and the other wing they are at awe, they revere Allah (swt). I’ve seen my teacher so many times go like that (crouch down). Where are we from that? Never. “Allah (swt) is Merciful.” Yes, Allah (swt) is Merciful but why are you not watching His Jalal. Al-Jalal wa ‘l-Jamal. Allah (swt) has the Attribute of Beauty and whatever is under it and the Attribute of Might and whatever is under it, Majestic Majesty. That is the Perfect One.
Sayyidina Yahya (a) met Sayyidina Isa (a). Yahya (a) asked him, “How come I see you cheerful and happy as if you are heedless? Do you feel safe?”
Isa (a) said, “How come I see you frowning as if you have lost hope in Allah (swt)’s Mercy?”
Two wings. You have the hope if you are afraid and you have the fear so you are not distracted and heedless and playful. Look at these two prophets teaching Ummatu ‘l-Habeeb (s). Be from them. Walk with the feet of khawf and raja`. Yaa Rabbee, I am hoping for Your Love. Yaa Rabbee, I am hoping for Your Mercy. I am trying to gain access to Your Divine Presence. Also, yaa Rabbee, what I am not doing because I am afraid of Your Might, I am afraid of Your Punishment, I am afraid of Your Promise that You have promised those who are crooked.
Where are we from that? Be a perfect Muslim. Have the feet of khawf wa raja`, fear and hope. Inshaa-Allah, we can be from them. As Awliyaullah have said, as long as you are healthy, khawf is better for you. Fear is better for you. When you are sick, hope is better for you. Because if you are healthy, it is better for you to fear Allah (swt) and be busy with His worship and leave what He has forbidden. Mashaa-Allah, when you are healthy, you think you can do anything and nobody can touch you. I felt like that. He felt like that. Others felt like that. “I can,” when you are healthy. You have no worries. Kidneys are working, liver is working, heart is working, brain is working, “Oh, I can do anything. Who can stop me?” For that man fear of Allah (swt) works best so that man or woman starts to humble themselves in front of Allah (swt) and do the good that He ordered and leave the bad that He has forbidden.
When you are sick like myself, and you are not able to perform what the healthy man is performing, what do you do? Hope is better then, to desire from Allah (swt) is better for you. “Yaa Rabbee. I am coming to You through the door of hope. I can’t.”
Use the foot of hope of Allah (swt)’s Mercy and forgiveness and the other foot is the foot of fear of Allah (swt)’s punishment. With the two feet you walk and the two wings you fly. That makes you perfect, taking from Jamal what you need and taking from Jalal what you need until you reach the Divine Presence. You will be like a clock. You will just go wherever Allah (swt) has destined you to go. That is something different. May Allah (swt) forgive us.
Nabbi` `ibaadee, “O my Habeeb, tell My servants, O the haba’ib that had followed the Habeeb, tell the servants that God is Most Forgiving, God is Most Merciful. Don’t despair of God’s Mercy. Don’t lose hope of God’s Mercy. He can reach you at any moment, at any time. Don’t be hopeless. Also, mind His Punishment. Be aware of His Anger.”
May Allah (swt) always keep us with ahlu ‘l-Jamaal, ahlu ‘l-lutf. Jalaal will come on everybody. You will receive some difficulty. It has to happen. Allah (swt) said, “I created with My Two Hands,” Awliyaullah have said the Hand of difficulty and hardship which is Might, Jalaal and the Hand of beauty and kindness and easiness, which is Jamal. He has to knead you with difficulty and with mercy, with beauty. You are both jamal and jalal. Difficulty first to conquer your arrogant ego, “I am.” No, you’re not. One difficulty and you’re crushed. Where are you? Can you say, “I am” anymore? No, you can’t say, “I am” anymore. “I was this.” I cannot say it anymore.
I am not the speaker. Mawlana (q) and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) and the rest have endured difficulties that you cannot even imagine. They were crushed to the max until there was nothing in their being that could say, “I.” They say, “Yaa Rabbee.” They were crushed to a point that there’s nothing in them, not even an atom left in them that can say, “I am.” Rather they say, “Rabbee.” It’s going to happen to you. If you haven’t had difficulty yet then you are playing. They are letting you play. They have to crush you until you can say, “I am not. I was what I was. I wasn’t. I’m not.” That is Jalaal. That has to happen first.
What was the Mecca period about? Subduing, crushing the egos of all Sahaabah (r). That’s why when you go to Mecca, you feel difficulty because that is the place of Jalaalullah. Baytullah is there. The House of Allah (swt). We say Allah (swt) Jalla jalaaluh, the Great Majestic One. Everybody who comes there has to be under that feeling of subdoing.
When you go to Madinah, you say, “Ohh.” That is Jamal. Habeebullah is the Jamal. That is why in the Mecca period there was crushing and after the difficulties and hardships were over then that Beauty of Jamal manifested. When Muslims became victorious and they started spreading that Allah (swt) is Ghafooru ‘r-Raḥīm. Come to Him. Leave your desires and be the servant of desires. Leave your ego and don’t be a servant of the ego. Leave dunya and whatever pleasures it offers to you. It’s all a shadow. It's going to leave you and go. It’s going to deceive you. Don’t be the servant of dunya and don’t run after dunya. Don’t be the servant of Shaytan, obeying him in what he says.”
That is what Sahaabah Ikram (r) spread all around the world to tell people. Jalal, Jamal. Beware of Allah (swt)’s Might and Power and be hopeful of Allah (swt)’s Beauty and Love. Inshaa-Allah, we can be from as-haabu ‘l-Jamaal wa ‘l-Jalaal, then you become from as-haabu ‘l-Kamaal. If you can get both of them then you can reach that perfection of Rasoolullah (s), perfection of Anbiya and Awliya. Of course we cannot reach their level but you can reach that road, that way of perfection. Inshaa-Allah (swt), we can be from the kummal. Al-Awliya ‘l-kummal, not from al-Awliya an-naaqis. There is no Wali that is naaqis. Wali cannot be naaqis. Wali cannot be jaahil. Allah (swt) will teach His Wali `ilm. Allah (swt) will complete His Wali to be from the kummal, the perfect ones.
May Allah (swt) forgive us. We go around and tell people the glad tidings. Allah (swt) is Ghafooru ‘r-Raḥīm. Inshaa-Allah, we can be from the ones who have reached that level of love and mercy of Allah (swt) manifesting upon them. Ameen, yaa Rabbee. Ameen.
Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
