Why There Is No Unity

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

24 June 2010 Lefke, Cyprus

As salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`ala fee haadha 'l-masjid.

Not every masjid has the importance of other masajid in the world. In Masjid al-Haram al-Makki, anyone who prays there, one raka`at is equal to 100,000 raka`at, and for anyone who prays in Masjid an-Nabi, every prayer there is equal to 10,000 raka`at. And awliyaullah have been dressed with the manifestation of the reward granted to these masaajid due to the presence of the Prophet (s) in them! Allah (swt) granted inheritors of the Prophet (s) what makes them a holy masjid. And this masjid, although small, is a piece of Paradise that Allah (swt) granted due to their love for Sayyidina Muhammad (s).

I’ve known Mawlana Shaykh Nazim now, might be 50 years and always I never saw but his love to Allah, to Prophet, to Grandshaykh and love to people. Day and night his house is occupied by guests and never his house has privacy. And because they sacrificed to the benefit of the ummah, for sure, as Allah said in Holy Qur'an:

أَلا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاء اللّهِ لاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

`ala awliyaullahi la khawfan `alayhim wa lahum yahzanoon.

Behold! Verily on the friends of God there is no fear, nor shall they grieve. (10:62)

Saints have nothing to fear of being provided. It is not fear of provision of dunya, but they are worried. not for themselves but Because they want their followers to be with them in Paradise. They are worried that one of them will be left behind and they don’t like that; they want everyone to be with them in Paradise. And that is why you can see that is manifesting its reality on His Holiness, His Eminence, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani, because in the hadith of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) narrated by al-Bukhari, it is said that on the Day of Judgment, Adam and all that are under Adam up to the Prophet’s time, with all their nations, together with Ummat an-Nabi (s), they come to Prophet (s), asking for his shafa`a. And there Prophet, in the Divine Presence, in Allah's Presence, he goes into sajdah. And he said, “Allah will open in my heart du`as that Allah never opened before.”

Did Prophet leave anything without explaining? He explained everything he mentioned everything "al-halaalu bayyin wa'l-halaalu bayyin" the halaal and he mentioned the haraam. But, he mentioned a du`a and he said that, “On the Day of Judgment, Allah will open to me a du`a I never heard before, that was never revealed to me before.”

And people can wonder and think if they have a little bit of intelligence or if they use a little bit of their mind, that the language must be Arabic, as the language of Paradise is Arabic, and the Holy Qur’an is in Arabic, so the language for everyone has to be Arabic. So when the Prophet goes into that sajda, it mean it has to be in Arabic language. But he said, “Never opened before.” So what kind of du`a, “never heard before.” You can read du`as in Arabic from beginning to end and see very little you cannot understand from all these are letters being put together in du`a. Like alif lam meem; like kah hah yaa `ayn saad, haa meem, haa meem `ayn seen kaaf. Yes it means these letters are du`as. So it means from that time, Allah (swt)will reveal to the Prophet infinite numbers of these words that have been put together that we cannot understand their meaning. Only Prophet (s) can understand their meanings. So he said, "When I begin doing these du`as that are are revealed to me when saying, Allah will reveal to me, Allah will say, Yaa Muhammad, irfa` raasak wa’ sa’l tu`ta “O Muhammad! Raise your head, ask and you shall be given.” What did Prophet want? Does he want Paradise. Of course not he wants the whole creation.

“If you want Paradise and all Creation, I am giving.”

“O Allah! I want my ummah.”

Allah (swt) said, “Take one-third of them.”

Do you want to be in this one-third or not? Everyone wants to be in this one-third, with no account! On third of the Ummah will be sent to Paradise. Then Allah says, “Go into sajdah.” Prophet goes into sajdah, and Allah will reveal to me du`as that were not revealed in the first sajdah and I will ask, I will ask, I will ask and Allah (swt) says, 'Then raise your head, I will give what you want.'

'I want my ummah.'

'Take another one-third.' Now two-thirds are going to Paradise. Then Prophet goes into sajdah, and Allah will reveal to him du`as that were not revealed in the first two times and he will ask and Allah (swt) says, “Then raise your head, I will give what you want.”Allah (swt) says to Prophet (s), “Go into sajdah, then raise your head; I will give you what you want.” Then He gives the last one-third except for one person, saying, “Ya Muhammad I gave all to you but I will not give to you.”

Allah (swt) wants to show His Greatness. Then He looks at that poor guy. He is the worst one, and He looks at him and says, “Who has put mercy into heart of my Prophet? It is Me!” And then He sends that one to Paradise. and He sends all Ummat to Paradise. So all are going to Paradise! Regardless of what they have done, they will go to Paradise because:

من قال لا اله الا الله دخل الجنة

man qaala laa ilaha ill-Allah dakhal al-jannah,

Who says, "There is no diety except Allah" enters Paradise; that secret.

Do you think awliyaullah are sitting on their chairs, playing? They are sitting with revelation coming to their hearts! Awliyaullah will take their mureeds, even if coming one time. When one comes to dhikr, even if not with them, angels will say, “There is one not with them, sitting in dhikr,” and then he will be rewarded with them and sent to Paradise. Awliyaullah will take all their followers with them; they will not let one to be out!

I was thinking, and this is something important, why there is no unity? And Allah says:

وَاعْتَصِمُواْ بِحَبْلِ اللّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلاَ تَفَرَّقُواْ

wa a`tasimoo bi-hablillahi jamee`aan wa laa tafarraqoo.

And hold fast, all of you together, to the rope of Allah, and be not divided among yourselves (3:103)

“Hold tight to the rope of Allah and don't let go.” But still there is no unity, even among the mureeds, still there is pulling to one side. I was thinking, because if you want to look into history, you will see Sayyidina Yusuf, how many brothers he has? Twelve brothers, all prophets, and what they did? They wanted to kill Sayyidina Yusuf and they are all prophets! Later they want to put him in a well and get rid of him. But they are prophets, so they are ma`soom (innocent). You have to understand, can Paradise accept sin? It cannot. Why did Allah leave Iblees there with a sin in Paradise? To go after Adam, to test His servant. So Sayyidina Yusuf (a) was thrown in the well by his brothers, who were all prophets! Also, Sayyidina Haabeel was killed by his brother Qaabeel. So this is a confusing situation.

I was giving a lecture in Kuala Lumpur, saying there is always a struggle between evil and good, between negative and positive. Even Sahaabah (r) struggled and fought, and we don’t want to go too deep into that subject. Even in the four madhabs, even in the time of Sayyidina Khalid al-Baghdadi (q) there was struggling. I was thinking about this. Some say that when making muraaqabah, “Don’t use your hands like that (with forefinger and thumb together).” Some are accusing that we are like Hindus, when I never did like that, and I don't know Hindus who do like that. But I was thinking, what is the meaning of that? Who did it in Islam? Do you know? In Islam, I am saying. I found out later by Mawlana’s barakah, Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) was the first to do that; he used to put his fingers like that when hearing the name of Prophet (s), and he kissed like that (fingers) and saying "qurratu `aynee bika yaa rasoolullah" and put on his eyes so no disease and sickness would come on them. When the name of Prophet (s) was mentioned, he did like that. Why did he do that?

وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِي عِلْمٍ عَلِيمٌ

Wa fawqa kullu dhi `ilmin `aleem.

Above every knower is a (higher) knower. (12:76)

Those who dig a little and learning:

وَقُلِ اعْمَلُواْ فَسَيَرَى اللّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ

qul `aamiloo fa sayara `amalakum wa rasoolahu wa 'l-mumineen

“Yaa Muhammad, tell them to do it.” It means to work, to learn knowledge, as Mawlana mentioned in his weekly article last week. You have to learn. Why we do two fingers like that? It is our shahadah finger. When you say shahadah, you need a witness, and this finger is your witness. Because this thumb has a code here (thumb print), it has been coded, it has your identity. When Awliyaullah want to know about you, they look for your code (unique fingerprint), like when you go into a country and they look for your identity card. So Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) wanted to say, “My identity is here.” Even he had an ID then! So instead of raising his ID card, this finger, to say, “O my Lord! I am saying You are worthy to be worshipped.” So who did it first in Islam? Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r). So when people see that they are going to say, “This is this or that.”

So when ... supported against... Sayyidina Khalid al-Baghdadi, who spread the tariqah 200 years ago, he brought and spread to tariqah from east to west, there was so much fighting then. (Mawlana turns to Qutb Shaykh Abdus Salam Shamee.) You are older than me, so you know more. Grandshaykh (q) indicated Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) as his successor. Did the others accept it? No And those are witnesses here. Mawlana's son is a witness. So that is always how it is.

I was thinking, “Yaa Rabbee! Send me an answer,” because so much fitnah is going around on the Internet. So one day I opened a notebook from Grandshaykh AbdAllah, when I used to take notes in his associations. To write teaches more than the Internet, but now everyone is lazy, but what you can do? I was in Singapore, (when this answer came to me). I had many notebooks of Grandshaykh, hundreds. I took one, when fitnah was growing on the Internet, I opened one written in 1391 AH, a suhbah by Grandshaykh; today is 1431 AH, so it was 40 years ago. It was a description of the wali. Allahu akbar, very good, and the answer came about struggling for the unity. And Grandshaykh (q) was saying and Mawlana Shaykh was translating, may Allah give him long life. And it says: “Awliyaullah are like mountains.” What does that mean? When you look at the explanation of Grandshaykh, and Mawlana Shaykh translating, you will understand.

They said on mountain lives all kinds of creatures, domestic and wild, all kinds: venomous snakes and snakes with no poison; lions, tigers, cats, sheep, camels, all kinds of wild and domestic animals. But the mountain never refuses anyone, it accepts everyone. It takes everyone in to live on that mountain and the mountain doesn’t complain. That is what is important, the mountain does not complain, the mountain does not complain! For the wild, he pets him. For the domestic, he pets him, to make both sides happy. Although inside, he is burning for his mureeds to be together and he wants to save them because he is carrying the secret of Prophet (s)! Like the Prophet wants the whole Ummah to go to Paradise, but Allah has kept one to Himself, as if to say, "I am not giving you all. I am Allah that can decide at the end." They lived on the mountain together and did not complain.

Alhamdulillah, that struck me and I saw the answer. Then I saw another answer, a very beautiful answer. He said, “Awliyaullah are not like a pond, they are like an ocean.” In a pond you can't make wudu because water has to be moving. An ocean has wild and domestic in it and also sewage they are emptying into it, but you can make wudu in it. And awliya are like that, not complaining, even if throwing garbage in it, still it’s water is clean.

It means: O Muslims! O Followers! Alhamdulillah that Allah (swt) has guided us to a soft shaykh, with a pure heart, not that Allah sent us to a shaykh that teaches his students with a stick. There are many like that, very serious, very army-style. But I never knew Mawlana Shaykh except he is very open, very soft. It is a blessing that Allah (swt) sent all of us here to this masjid, to Paradise, and He gave us that fountain that we are drinking the pure milk of Paradise, although we are not doing correctly what we need to do, but they are!

May Allah bless us and grant us to be together like one hand, to destroy the work of Shaytan. May Allah forgive us.

wa min Allah at-tawfeeq bi hurmati 'l-Fatiha.

Taqabal Allah, Mashaa-Allah.
