Don’t Be Proud of Your Knowledge

Isha Suhbah

A`oodhu billah min ash-Shaytani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een.

SubhaanAllah, today's technology, this camera can see and record because of some lenses they have put together it can see and record, sami`na wa ata`ana, listen and obey. Allahumma arzuqna `Ilm al-Yaqeen, `Ayn al-Yaqeen, Haqq al-Yaqeen. `Ilm al-Yaqeen comes to you like audio, through your hearing; if you can’t hear you can’t get it. `Ayn al Yaqeen is Certainty of Knowledge through the eyes, mushahada, so audio + vision = Reality. With audio and vision you have a complete picture, but if you have audio alone you are only hearing and if you have only vision you can see but you cannot express. So the combination of both is `Ilm al-Yaqeen, `Ayn al-Yaqeen, Haqq al-Yaqeen. Like the atom, the mass and the electrons, if you take the mass the atom will stop as an atom. You have the atom, it is a combination of mass and energy: mass is the physical and energy is the electrons and protons. So everything depends on three and the number ‘3’ is very important.

Allahumma salli `ala Sayyidina Muhammad (s) wa `alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad (s). Allah (swt) wants His servant to learn, but He doesn’t want him to be a tyrant from studying and learning. What did Allah say?

(O Mankind!) Of knowledge, only a little is communicated to you. (Surat al-Israa’, 17:85)

They ask you about the soul: ‘ruh’ as we know is the soul, or an angel as expressed in the Holy Qur'an. Allah knows that everything other than ruh can be known, but ruh cannot be known. “They ask you about that,” means all knowledge that is not attached to ruh is nothing. The main knowledge is ar-ruh: without ruh everything becomes jamaad, inanimate; without ruh there is no movement, everything dies.

A person dies when the ruh leaves their body, so regarding, “They asked you about the ruh; say to them, yaa Muhammad, wa maa uteetum min al-`ilmi illa qaleela, ‘What you have been given of knowledge is but a little.’” Today people talk about technology, websites, satellites, stars, chemistry, physics, but all of this [knowledge] is in limits as Allah (swt) kept knowledge of ruh in His Hands and what [knowledge] He gave to the Prophet (s) is for the Prophet (s), we don’t know.

When you see someone dying in front of you and look at his mouth, what comes out? Can you hear or you see anything? There is no audio, no video, nothing, so no one knows the precise moment of death (until it happens) and since we don’t know we must be careful and prepare ourselves for that day when we will observe the soul coming out of our body through our mouth.

Today people are running and fighting. O Muslims around the world! What is the benefit? Everyone is running for dunya. All these conferences, still they are for dunya. It is okay, but it does not mean should you become arrogant and proud of yourselves for a lecture you give here and there, as Allah (swt) said what you have been given of knowledge is very little.

Don’t praise yourself. (Surat an-Najm, 53:32)

You have been given nothing of knowledge! Go to the Library of Congress, which has millions of books. What all of them touch on is one thing: to run after the Truth, Reality, `Ilm al-Yaqeen, `Ayn al-Yaqeen, Haqq al-Yaqeen, the Certainty of Reality. Every book that has been written is to guide you and the community to the Reality that has been veiled from everyone, all these books. Sayyidina `Ali (r) said all the books that have been written bring nothing but heartache, because you study and study and study and what do you achieve? Nothing, because the new knowledge comes and the old knowledge goes, wa maa uteetum min al-`ilmi illa qaleela, “You have been given of knowledge but a little.” Sayyidina `Ali (r) said to Sahaabah (r) that nothing comes from these books except heartache and Grandshaykh mentioned all of that in that story.

Sayyidina `Ali (r) said, “All books are on one point that all of us have to focus on: the khulaasa of all books, the summary of everything.” The Sahaabah (r) said, “Yaa `Ali, what is that? Tell us!” He said, “The head of wisdom is fear of Allah.”

Everyone wants to be and pretends and claims that he is a wise man. This camera can memorize everything and repeat it hundreds of times; whatever video you want it brings it out and does not claim to be a wise person or self-sufficient, it accepts everything: move it left, it moves left; move it right, it moves right; throw it on the floor, it submits completely. Be like that, then you can hear the truth, the Reality, you can feel it.

Run to Allah (from all that is false and evil)! (Surat adh-Dhaariyaat, 51:50)

Run to it, fa-firroo ila ‘Llah, that is Islam. Run to the Prophet (s)! Where is Allah telling us to run? [To Allah.] Where is Allah telling us to run?

If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come to you and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful. (Surat an-Nisaa, 4:64)

Allah (swt) told them, “When they are oppressors to themselves, come to the Prophet (s), not to anyone else.” When you are oppressor to yourself, and no one wants to oppress himself, but you might be by pretending you know everything when in reality you know only a little drop. So not Prophet, but Allah is telling us, “When they are oppressors to themselves, run to Muhammad, al-maghaar al-Muhammadiyya, the Hidden Muhammad Cave! Fa-firroo ila ‘Llah!”

Betake yourselves to the Cave: Your Lord will shower His Mercies on you and disposes of your affair towards comfort and ease." (Surat al-Kahf, 18:16)

Run to the Muhammadan Cave, then yanshur lakum rabbukum min rahmatihi, Allah (swt) will send His Mercy on you; that means you are running to the Cave of Muhammad (s), then the Mercy dressed on him will be dressed on you, but run to him! Adab is to:

Approach (enter) houses from their doors. (Surat al-Baqarah, 2:189)

Come to homes through their doors, don’t jump from the stairs, don’t dump from the roof. Allah is telling us, “Come to the House through the Door, come to Reality through Muhammad (s), he is the Door.” Also, Sayyidina Muhammad (s) mentioned, “Sayyidina `Ali (r) is my door.”

I am the City of Knowledge and `Ali is its Door (or Gate). (al-Haakim, Tirmidhi)

Allah (swt) said, “Come to the homes through their doors.” The Door of humanity is what? It is Sayyidina Muhammad (s), because Allah said fa-oow ila al-kahfi yanshur lakum rabbukum min rahmatihi wa-yuhayyi lakum min amrikum mirfaqa, “Your Lord will shower His Mercies on you and dispose of your affair towards comfort and ease,” so He will sprinkle His Mercy on you and prepare a way for you that when you run to the cave it has an opening and an exit, but an exit to where?

You are running in the Muhammadan Cave, which means you are asking Allah's forgiveness, you are repenting, asking for Him to dress you with that Mercy mentioned in Holy Qur'an, then you exit pure, to ihdina ’s-sirat al-mustaqeem, “Guide us to Siraat al-Mustaqeem.” Who is Siraat al-Mustaqeem? Prophet (s) is Siraat al-Mustaqeem: that is one of his names, he is the Siraat because no one can go to Paradise without his shafa`ah. He is the Siraat al-Mustaqeem!

O Muslims and mu’mins! He is the cave and when you enter you will be peaceful and Shaytan cannot bother you, then you exit on the Right Path and that is why Allah said, “They come to you when they have oppressed themselves. Go to homes through their doors.” You cannot come to homes through windows, that is not the adab, you will be thrown out as Allah is saying, “When you come through the door, I will forgive you.” That is why to be accepted, every `amal must be with ‘Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem,’ as Allah dressed the secret of Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem with the Prophet (s) because He made miftaah al-jannah, the Key of Paradise ‘Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem’.

How many letters are in ‘Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem’? Nineteen letters. How many letters are in the names of Ahlu 'l-Bayt? Nineteen. That means the Rahmah Allah has put in ‘Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem’ He dressed in Ahlu 'l-Bayt through the Prophet (s), which means shafa`ah of the Prophet (s) or shafa`ah of Ahlu 'l-Bayt, any of them, is your entry to Paradise! Keep Ahl al-`Abaa happy with you by mentioning their names, by remembering Sayyidina Rasoolullah (s), Sayyida Fatimat az-Zahra, Sayyidina `Ali, Sayyidina al-Hasan and Sayyidina al-Husayn (`alayhim us-salam). We are running after dunya, not knowing its beginning or end, but for Awliyaullah the beginning and end of this universe is zero because it is not going to exist, it is going to disappear!

The Day that We roll up the Heavens like a scroll rolled up for books (completed). Even as We produced the first Creation, so shall We produce a new one, a promise We have undertaken; truly shall We fulfil it. (Surat al-Anbiya, 21:104)

When you fold a book everything is between two covers. The whole universe will be folded like you fold a carpet or book; it means what is inside is finished and that is why Allah (swt) said, wa maa uteetum min al-`ilmi illa qaleela, “What you have been given from knowledge is but a little.” That means you are nothing!

Above every knower is a (higher) knower. (Surah Yusuf, 12:76)

Fear Allah and Allah will teach you (Surat al-Baqara, 2:282)

Allah wants taqwa from us and that’s why Sayyidina `Ali said, “The head of wisdom is fear of Allah.” Taqwa is to fear Allah (swt), to keep your heart always afraid to be thrown in punishment. Today everyone speaks of forgiveness, but to be forgiven we must have taqwa, to not do what is wrong or not accepted and then say, “This is taqwa.” No, rather try as much as you can to keep taqwa in your heart. Shaytan will attack, but Allah will forgive you when you resist Shaytan, just as He forgave Sayyidina Adam (a). Look what happened to the sons of Sayyidina Adam (a), Habeel (a) said:

And convey to them, setting forth the truth, the story of the two sons of Adam, how each offered a sacrifice and it was accepted from one of them, whereas it was not accepted from the other. [And Cain] said, “I will surely slay you!” [Abel] replied, “Behold, God accepts only from those who are conscious of Him. Even if you lay your hand on me to slay me, I shall not lay my hand on you to slay you. Behold, I fear God, the Sustainer of All the Worlds.” (Surat al-Maida, 5:27-28)

You see, makhaafat Allah! “If you are extending your hand to kill me, I am not extending my hand to kill you,” which means Habeel was able to kill Qabeel. He said, “I am surrendering. If you want to kill, kill. I am going back to Allah, I fear Him.” The head of wisdom is fear of Allah. Seven-thousand years ago, the son of Sayyidina Adam (a) said, “I am not going to extend my to kill you.” Today, if you speak with someone and he does not like what you say, he will kill you, he will shoot you. Why? Because of Shaytan. So Awliyaullah know they are not going to achieve anything of dunya because it is going to be folded up, what they will achieve is Akhirah, so people must not ... don’t humiliate or belittle people. That is why Allah mentioned in Holy Qur'an:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اجْتَنِبُوا كَثِيرًا مِّنَ الظَّن وَلَا تَجَسَّسُوا وَلَا يَغْتَب بَّعْضُكُم بَعْضًا أَيُحِبُّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَن يَأْكُلَ لَحْمَ أَخِيهِ مَيْتًا فَكَرِهْتُمُوهُ

O you who believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible) and spy not on each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? No, you would abhor it.

(Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:12)

Don’t belittle your brother, your friend, your spouse, your husband, your children, your uncles, your aunties: don’t backbite, because it is as if you are eating raw meat of a dead carcass! Ayuhibboo ahadakum an yaakulo lahma akheehi mayta, do you like to eat the raw flesh of your brother? See the eloquence of bringing the issue of backbiting in one verse. Ayuhibbu ahadukum, Allah is asking, “Do you love to eat the flesh of your brother?” Everyone eating the flesh of each other when they speak ill of each other. As soon as you go away, people begin to speak badly; this one says this and that one says that. Don’t belittle your brothers! If you see something wrong, try to mention to him privately and don’t listen to people what they say to you without listening to the other party. Many people throw lies at others with buhtaan, false accusations, even in the same Tariqah, on same Way and in the same communities, mu’min against mu’min, they throw false accusations, “You did this, you did that!” and for themselves, those who accuse the others think they are pure. When you are accusing someone you are not pure! When you don’t listen from both sides, don’t make your judgment.

O Muslims! We are in a very difficult time. I was wondering two days ago in New Jersey, how is it possible this dunya is going to continue with all the problems we are seeing as no one can solve these problems, as the Prophet (s) said:

وأخرج أحمد والبخاري ومسلم وابن ماجة عن ابن مسعود رضي الله عنه: سمعت رسول الله يقول: يكون بين يدي الساعة أيام فيرفع فيها العلم وينزل فيها الجهل ويكثر فيها الهرج

Among the Signs of the Last Days there will be days when too much ignorance will come to the hearts of people and knowledge will be lifted up and in these days there will be too much fear and too much killing. (`Abdullah ibn Mas`ood, Bukhari and Muslim)

There will be too much killing on Earth and too much ignorance, and that does not mean technology, which doesn’t mean anything, it means behavior.

I have been sent to perfect the best of conduct (your behavior and character). (Bazzaar)

Prophet (s) said, “Verily I have been sent to teach good manners.” That is what is important. It means whenever someone is speaking wrong and accusing you, if you are pure, if you achieved purity in your heart by being silent, Allah will put words in your mouth whenever you want to speak, and you will not backbite because Allah will give you a tongue that speaks in a heavenly way. The Hadith regarding this is very clear:

My servant does not cease to approach Me through voluntary worship until I will love him. When I love him, I will become the ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees, the hand with which he acts, and the legs with which he walks (and other versions include, “and the tongue with which he speaks.”). (Hadith Qudsi, Bukhari)

When someone continues to approach to Allah by doing voluntary worship, then Allah will love him and when Allah loves him, He will be ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees and the tongue with which he speaks! When someone sits with the one who has achieved that purity, to whom Allah gives speech on his tongue, they can carry all the bad smells from the people sitting with them and can change their dirty breath of bad manners to a pure mouth and take away all that dirtiness. There are such guides, as the Prophet (s) said:

أصحابي كالنجوم بأيهم اقتديتم اهتديتم

My Companions are like stars (on a dark night); whichever of them you follow, you will be guided.

(`Abd ibn Humayd, ad-Daraqutnee, ibn `Adiyy, ibn `Abd al-Barr,

with unsound chains but the meaning is sound.)

Guides are there, inheritors of Sahaabah, when you take a guide he will take responsibility to clean you. May Allah (swt) guide us to these sincere and beautiful guides, and alhamdulillah Allah (swt) guided us to Grandshaykh `AbduAllah al-Fa'iz ad-Daghestani and to Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil al-Haqqani (qs). May Allah keep us on Siraat al-Mustaqeem, the Straight Path, which is Allah (swt). When we knock on the door of the Prophet (s), don’t we think He will open the door? May Allah bless you for coming and may Allah bless our son, Shaykh Nurjan, as he is doing a good job and bringing many people.

Every moment we are watching a birthday. What does that mean? It means that every moment, a'oodhu billah min ash-Shaytani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. People today are so taken by birthdays that it is becoming like a ritual and the real birth is for the Prophet (s). The birth of the Prophet (s) is the birth of Islam, so the birthday is when Haqq comes up. We are observing birthdays every moment, as I said at the beginning, the Reality of birth is with the Prophet (s), as he is the birth of Islam and the birth of Reality! When the Prophet (s) appeared, it is the birthday of Reality. Every one of us has a birthday every night, because he goes to sleep and ruh al-mu’min, the soul goes to sleep under al-`Arsh and if Allah (swt) holds the soul that person passes away and if He releases it the soul returns, so every night and every morning everyone has a birthday.

On every breath there is lot of knowledge that is hidden and every moment it will be opened to that `abd for the `Ilm al-Laduniyy. Every morning when the servant wakes up for Fajr, he says, ash-hadu laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasoolullah asbahna wa asbaha al-mulku lillah. When the soul is taken up during sleep under `Arsh to make sajda, that knowledge is being planted in the heart as hidden knowledge, preserved for the day when there is the ‘birth of death’. So here, when we are expecting a birthday cake, instead look forward to expecting a heavenly cake!

May Allah make our days birthdays under the `Arsh as heavenly birthdays and for us to remember we are going to be asked and that we cannot run away, we are going to be caught’ therefore, the only safety is the waseelah of the Prophet (s) at that time. May Allah (swt) keep us together with the Prophet (s)!

Wa min Allahi ‘t-tawfeeq bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
