Don’t Be Quick to Judge

Salaam `alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh. A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi ‘l-mursaleen wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een.

We are in a time when too much people are confused: we are confused, they are confused, `ulama are confused, presidents are confused; there is a big confusion and everyone thinks that he is right and that is the problem. We ask Allah (swt) for the sake of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and awliyaullah to keep us with the ones about whom Allah has:

رِجَالٌ صَدَقُوا مَا عَاهَدُوا اللَّهَ عَلَيْهِ فَمِنْهُم مَّن قَضَى نَحْبَهُ وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَنتَظِرُ وَمَا بَدَّلُوا تَبْدِيلًا

Men that kept their covenant with Allah (swt) and some passed and some are waiting and they did not change in the least. (Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:23)

“Men who have confirmed an oath, what Allah has taken from them and from them are those who are alive and those who are in grave,” is the literal meaning, but it also it means, “Men who kept their Covenant with Allah,” they are straightforward on Siraat al-Mustaqeem and some reached Maqaam at-Taslimiyya, which means they died before they died like Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r), to die physically is different than to die spiritually. As long as your soul is in your body you must make the soul accept submission to Allah in everything. So we are asking, Yaa Rabbee, don't deprive us of the benefit to be with awliyaullah, those whom You described in Holy Qur'an as rijaalun sadaqoo ma `ahad'Allahu `alayhi, men that kept their covenant!

We are weak ones, that is why confusion is all around. There are some people who are trying to adjust themselves on Siraat al-Mustaqeem and we have to tell ourselves:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِن جَاءكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَأٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا أَن تُصِيبُوا قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا عَلَى مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ

O you who believe! If a corrupt person comes to you with something wrong, ascertain the truth unless you harm people unwittingly and afterwards become full of repentance for what you have done. (Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:6)

If someone comes to you with news of something that happened, check it, and this is clear order: an tuseeboo qawman bi jahaalatin wa tusbihoo `alaa maa fa`altum naadimeen. Be careful not to hit innocent people and then you become regretful. The confusion is because we are not asking what to do. The nafs always orders you to do something wrong. You cannot look at issues from your own perspective, you must look from Allah’s (swt) point of view and from the Prophet 's (s) point of view and from awliyaullah’s point of view, and from sincere people’s point of view, which means you have to be careful of what you are hearing and what you are seeing because you don’t know!

Today no one is paying attention, and everyone:

ﻗﻞ ﻟﻤﻦ ﻳﺪﻋﻲ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻢ ﻓﻠﺴﻔﺔ **ﻋﻠﻤﺖ ﺷﻴﺌﺎ ﻭﻏﺎﺑﺖ ﻋﻨﻚ ﺃﺷﻴﺎﺀ

qul liman ada`ee fi ’l-phalsaphata shayun a`raftu shayun wa ghaabt `anka ashyaaun katheera.

“Those who claim to know something of philosophy, they knew one thing but missed a lot.” (Arabic proverb)

If we want to describe this room, you say there is room with lights, camera, carpets, benches, tables, minbar, mihrab-- you cannot only say ‘it is not just a room’ but you have to describe it in detail. So when someone is saying something, don’t look left or right, you have to not give your assumptions from only one point of view, but take everything around him. You cannot give your opinion on something you don't know well unless you have experience with him. Look all around that person [at whole issues], don't give a quick judgment on people.

They say in Arabic, “Do you know this person?”

You say, “Yes, I know this person.”

Then they ask, “Did you accompany him?”

“No, I did not accompany him.”

“Then you don't know him.”

Why, do you know yourself more? You are accompanying yourself and your self (nafs) is accompanying you. both sides.

He inspired the self of its good and its bad. (Surat ash-Shams, 91:8)

Allah will inspire the self of what is good and what is bad. Allah knows and throws it to you, saying, “Look at yourself: there is good in it and bad in it, fix it.” He did not say ‘fa alhamaa fujoorahaa wa taqwaahaa’ and stop, but He said, “The one who purified it will be successful.” Successful in what? Not successful in praying as Allah does not need your prayer, you are praying for your own benefit as it is an order. But you have to improve what Allah gave you as a Trust.

We did indeed offer the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the Mountains, but they refused to undertake it, being afraid, but Man undertook it. Lo! He has proved a tyrant and a fool.

(Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:72)

Allah gave Trust to presidents, to `ulama, to normal people and Allah gave everyone a Trust: what are we going to do with it? We are fighting who will sit on chair! Why? Sit on the floor; sitting on the chair gives you arrogance and pride, but you only knew one thing, shay’an, and you don't know all the rest.

That is why there are 500 obligations, what a person has to do, and 800 forbiddens, bad manners you must avoid. Did we count the bad manners we have? You might wear the best dress, but you are going to leave dunya and go back to Allah, but if He dresses you with His Allah's Beautiful Names and Attributes, then you are dressed with best dress!

To Allah we belong and unto Him do we return. (Surat al-Baqara, 2:156)

We are from Him and we are going back to that ocean of knowledge, `Uloom al-Awwaleen wa ’l-Akhireen, that ocean Allah gave to the Prophet (s) when, as he said:

كنت نبي و ادم بين الماء و الطين

I was a prophet when Adam was between water and clay.

And there is more: Allah created the Prophet from His Light!

When Jaabir (r) asked, “Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you, oh Prophet of Allah! What is the first thing that Allah (swt) created?” the Prophet (s) said, “The first thing that Allah (swt) created is the Light of your Prophet from His Light, O Jaabir.” (Musannaf `Abdu ’r-Razzaq)

Allah offered the Trust and they refused. What is that Trust? The mountains and Earth said, “We cannot carry that Trust,” but human beings said, “Yes! We can take it, anything!” They were greedy, they didn't know there is problem there.

We did indeed offer the Trust to the Heavens and the Earth and the Mountains, but they refused to undertake it, being afraid, but Man undertook it. Lo! He hath proved a tyrant and a fool.

(Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:72)

Innahu kaana zhalooman jahoola, Allah is describing us as ‘oppressors and ignorant.’ If Allah says we are ignorant, then we say to people we are not ignorant! Every `alim wants to put by his name the title "Dr." If we don't we are not happy and that is arrogance. An `alim or rich man or even poor man wants to be something. So what is that Trust that Allah gave to us, knowledge? Allah can give knowledge easily!

So they found one of Our Servants on whom We had bestowed Mercy from Ourselves and whom We had taught knowledge from Our Own Presence. (Surat al-Kahf, 18:65)

Allah made Sayyidina Musa’s knowledge look like nothing in front of Sayyidina Khidr because Sayyidina Musa (a) objected! That is a lesson for us, not Sayyidina Musa (a). People point and say, “We invited that `alim to a conference.” What is he going to give to you? If he gives you love of Akhirah, then go ahead, congratulations! But if he is going to give you love of dunya, be worried. What did ibn `Ajeeba say? He said, “Don't take your knowledge from papers, from books (`Ilm al-Awraaq), take your knowledge from a complete wali, one whom even if he says ‘Alif’ it carries endless meanings because it is part of Holy Qur'an, Alif. Laam. Meem., so Alif is part of Allah's Words, it is alive. If that wali says ‘Alif’, it can move dunya, it can move mountains like a crane can move mountains, big blocks! A wali can do that, but we cannot! So go cry when you are alone by yourself and say, “Yaa Rabb, I am lost!” Allah (swt) is giving an oath by `asr, by time or by the century, wa'l-`asr, it is a specific timeframe in which people are losers:

وَالْعَصْرِإِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍإِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ

By al-`Asr (the time)! Verily, Mankind is in loss, except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and exhorted each other to truth and exhorted each other to patience. (Surat al-`Asr, 103:1-3)

Allah is saying we are losers (and we are saying we are winners) except those who believed in Muhammad (s). To believe in Allah alone without saying ‘Muhammad Rasoolullah’ is not accepted. You have to go up the stairs step by step and you cannot jump.

That is how we began this advice to myself and then to you: that Allah (swt) said, Yaa ayyuha’ lLadheena aamanoo in ja’akum faasiqun bi naba'in fa-tabayyinoo, O you who believe! If some wrongdoer comes to you with news, verify it. Don't say the faasiq is the one that brought the news, someone else! That is you if it comes to you with an inspiration to do something wrong, if the self comes and says, “Look at this and look at that.” There are so many fitnas outside and for that reason awliyaullah are hiding as there is too much darkness and something is going to happen!

O Believers! Don't take what you are hearing as a guarantee! It might be a faasiq (corrupted person) coming with corrupted message: fa-tabayyinoo! Allah is saying check it and see, don't listen and give a decision as it might be what you heard is corrupt. If anyone tells you something from Holy Qur'an or Hadith, that is correct, then no need to check if you know it is from Holy Qur'an or Hadith, but other than that you have to check because an tuseeboo qawman bi jahaalatin fa tusbihoo `alaa ma fa`ltum naadimeen, you might harm somebody through your ignorance. If you listen to your ego, you might end up hurting someone then regret it. Tasawwuf is the message from within Islam, Islam has the message of Tasawwuf inside it, as Prophet (s) said:

انما بعثت لاتمم مكارم الاخلاق

I have been sent to perfect the best of conduct (your behavior and character). (Bazzaar)

Allah sent the Prophet (s) as a messenger to perfect us, to take away that nafs al-ammaarah. If someone takes away your Nafs al-Ammaara, follow that person as he will guide you, but if that person puts you in your Nafs al-Ammaara then be careful. So it is in your hand. Allah gave you that Trust. That Trust is what? What is key of Jannah? Miftah al-Jannah ‘laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammad rasoolullah, the key of Paradise is laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammad rasoolullah. Don't let hidden shirk, about which the Prophet (s) was worried for his Ummah.

What I fear most for my Ummah is hidden shirk.

Hidden shirk is to assign to yourself what is for Allah, not for you as you claim. If you give someone money and say, “ I gave him money,” no, Allah gave him the money and you were only a means to reach to that person: it is from Allah (swt) to Allah (swt).

Allah gave a Trust. Where is that Trust, what you did with it? I heard from Grandshaykh `AbdAllah, may Allah bless his soul, that Allah sometimes opens kashf for His awliyaullah, the ability to see what cannot be seen, and this is authenticated by the hadith of the Prophet (s):

My servant does not cease to approach Me through voluntary worship until I will love him. When I love him, I will become the ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees, the hand with which he acts, and the legs with which he walks (and other versions include, “and the tongue with which he speaks.”). (Hadith Qudsiyy, Bukhari)

“When My servant approaches Me with voluntary worship I will love him and when I love him I become the eyes with which he sees....” and everyone is dressed different than each one, but sometimes for the baraka of that wali, Allah might dress him with mercy and give it to all present there. I heard from Grandshaykh `AbdAllah, may Allah bless his soul, one of the big awliyaullah that passed away on 4th Ramadan 1973, that in Israa and Mi`raaj, Allah wanted to give something to the Prophet (s), and He invited him to Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa, we are not going into that, but when he (s) was in the Divine Presence, Allah revealed to the Prophet (s), “Yaa `Abdee, this is your Ummah, I am giving it to you.” Prophet (s) is the Master of Human Beings:

آدم ومن دونه تحت لواي يوم القيامة

As Prophet (s) said: Adam and who is under Adam is under my flag on Judgment Day.

“Sayyidina Adam (a) and everyone other than him are under my flag on Judgment Day.” Allah said, “I am giving you these pure souls, yaa Muhammad. Hold them as Trust for Me.” Allah gave him a heavy Trust and gave him Shafa`ah to clean them on the Day of Judgment. Allah gave them to the Prophet (s) clean and said, “Return them to me clean,” and the Prophet (s) said, “I accept.” Then Allah revealed to the Prophet (s) and showed him what sins they are going to do and when the Prophet (s) saw those sins he was worried. So we are in the hands of the Prophet (s), as he accepted us at Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa and that is why Allah gave him Shafa`ah, to save us!

That is when Allah gave him Shafa`ah and Shaf`aat an-Nabi (s) does not leave even the child in womb of the mother! Everyone who says, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammad rasoolullah” will enter that Shafa`ah! But those in dunya who are trying to make the power of the Prophet (s) look low will feel ashamed in the presence of the Prophet (s) on Judgment Day! Their bad characters and bad manners are going to burn them from inside in shame before Allah (swt) and the Prophet (s)! May Allah keep us in the Shafa`ah of the Prophet (s).

May Allah forgive us. I was going to discuss Tasawwuf and I did not enter that as they took us somewhere else. We have to be careful when someone corrupted comes with a message: check it as you don't want to harm someone who is innocent. How many fitnaa come from jealousy between mureeds, and they do something (react) based on rumors?

O you who believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible). (Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:12)

O you who believe! Be far away from suspicion for some of suspicion is a sin, and Allah did not address the Muslims her but rather the mu’min because that is higher level and the Muslims are already full of suspicion. May Allah raise up our levels.

Wa min Allahi ‘t-tawfeeq bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
