Nawaytu 'l-arba`-een, nawaytu 'l-`-itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaada, nawaytu 's-salook, lillahi ta`ala al-`Azheem fee hadha 'l-masjid.

Sometimes you have a key that opens the lock, sometimes they give you a bunch of keys and they say “Open the door,” and it’s your luck if you get the right key, then it opens; if you don't get the right key it is closed. You know any stringed instrument, it has many different strings. If you touch one, a sound and another string, another sound, different sounds and from one sound to another sound it changes, you might like one and you don’t like the other. Allah (swt) has given us a string, He gave us a key for everyone that you cannot say, “This one has and this one doesn't,” Allah is Just, when He gives He gives everyone and the evidence is the Hadith of Prophet (s). One day a man came to Prophet (s) and said, “Yaa Rasoolullah I have an issue.” “What is your issue?” The man said, “The issue is with my wife.” (Laughter.) Now that wife was for the good cause. “The issue is with my wife. We are a nice family and we are living happily. We are your servants. We love you, you are our Prophet, the Seal of Messengers (s). We have an issue that my wife asked me to ask you about.” Look how much that wife was sincere. She asked her husband, “That issue that is between us, but you have to ask Prophet about it and whatever he says we follow.” Prophet (s) said, “What is your problem?” Prophet (s) knows even before the man came to him. Allah (swt) informed His Prophet...in every verse of the Holy Qur’an, before the Revelation, before wahiyy came to Jibreel (a) and from Jibreel (a) to Prophet (s), Prophet (s) already knew from Allah (swt) what the wahiyy would be:

الرَّحْمَنُ عَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ خَلَقَ الْإِنسَانَ

The Beneficent. Hath made known the Quran. He hath created man. -(Surat ar-Rahman, 55:1-3)

He created al-Insaan after, but He taught the Qu'ran before, to whom? The Qur’an has to be revealed to Prophet (s), so this means that when Allah created Sayyidina Muhammad (s), the first that Allah created was the Light of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), He taught him everything, `Uloom al-Awwaleen wa’l-Akhireen, Knowledge of Before and Knowledge of After. But Prophet (s) was not ordered to give the Ummah everything, nor the Sahaabah (r) at that time except by Allah’s Revelation, following the principles that if Allah gives him through wahiyy then he tells the people, delivers the Message.

So that man came to Prophet (s) and said, “Yaa Rasoolullah, we have an issue.” Because Prophet (s) is a just human being, he doesn't drop justice, he carries justice on a high level. So he gave an answer suitable to that person and for everyone Prophet (s) gives an answer. When you read Holy Qu’ran it gives many answers; all your answers will pass through verses of Holy Qur’an, because the ayah can carry different meanings and everyone reads the verses in different ways and takes a different meaning.

Kalaam ul-Qur’an ghayr il-maghloob. The way Allah (swt) revealed the language of the Holy Qur’an to Prophet (s), Allah’s Words can carry all the differences in the Ummah. So that man went to Prophet (s) and said, “Yaa Rasoolullah, we have an issue.” Now people run to whom? Allah said, “Run to Muhammad (s)!”

Say (O Muhammad), "If you (really) love Allah, then follow me! Allah will love you and forgive your sins, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:31)

That means it is an order for us: you cannot go to anyone other than Prophet (s) and he will take you to the Divine Presence. You cannot run to your ego and judge things according to what you understand. What do you understand? Your understanding is limited. Prophet's understanding is not limited. [...] Prophet (s) will give you an answer that fits your question and it has to be balanced, he is `adl, the manifestation of justice: he gives everyone his right, not like judges today that keep hearing your case and reviewing documents, and lawyers getting your money, making you poor to get £5 extra and you pay hundreds of pounds extra! The man went to the Prophet (s), who gave the answer, finished! Not, “We have to make a plan and sell that plan to who are interested and then give a little bit to me,” and to the other one, to the other one, and then what is left? Nothing is left on the plate to give to people. It’s dunya work and for Akhirah that does not work.

وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا

Leave what Prophet (s) forbade and take what he ordered. (Surat al-Hashr, 59:7)

Whatever Prophet (s) gives to you, take it, there are no questions!

قَالُواْ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا

We listen and we obey. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:46)

They say, “Yaa Rabbee, we listen and obey,” there is no discussion. You present your project and they want to make a discussion. For what? This is Islam and whatever it comes with is perfect so don’t try to challenge it. There is no renovation or reformation of Islam! There is no question: Islam is perfect like the full moon. Islam is a full moon. What do scholars say? Prophet (s) is the moon, qamar: Qamarun. Qamar shines its light at night, but Prophet's Light shines all over day and night. If the light of Prophet appears on dunya, this whole dunya will shine forever! Allah is keeping that Light of Prophet (s) until Judgement Day to shine over the whole Ummah and they will be shining and people will be bedazzled with the Light of Prophet (s), like stars. Here there is a limit of how much Allah sends as we cannot carry much, although awliya carry according to their limits. ‘Qamarun’, why not ‘Shamsun’? The Moon takes light from the Sun. Anta Noorun `alaa Noor. He (s) is Shams and the shams is light for this small planet, but Sayyidina Muhammad's Light is all over the universe as it is light from Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa and there is no limit to its shining!

So that man came to Prophet (s) and said, “My wife asked me to ask you and whatever you decide we will follow. You tell me, I will follow.” He did not say, “I will give my presentation and excuses and why I want this to happen.” No, he said, “What you decide I will take it.” So that is what is important: what Prophet (s) gives we take, the whole Ummah takes and everyone takes according to the understanding of Hadith and Holy Qur’an.

You cannot manipulate the verses of Holy Qur’an or Hadith. Don't use your crazy mind to make the Qur’an fit to your understanding. The Qur’an is higher, it is Allah’s Words and it can carry a lot of meanings, you have to be a mufti (highly educated) to interpret. Imam Malik founded a full school of thought (Maliki).. In his life he was running away from giving a fatwa, religious edict. He never tried to give a fatwa. He has a big following around the world, Madhhab of Imam Malik. Even with all this, if anyone comes for a fatwa he tried to get out of it, saying, “I don't want to be in a situation in which I make a mistake.” Today they are giving fatawa everywhere on the Internet, even a child gives fataawaa today. Imam Malik knew everything and he could give fatwa day and night, but everything is asaas al-mulk al-`adl, the principle to run a kingdom is justice, you cannot keep your eye away from justice.

How much they keep their eyes away from justice today, both eyes, especially in dealing with politicians, there no room for justice, there is only room for one thing. Does anyone know what? It is the opposite of justice. There are so many meanings. Everything depends on justice, but without justice…for example, everyone his rights and you must give them their rights, don't give only yourself your rights as that is not justice: speak the truth even on yourself.

O you who believe! Stand firmly for justice as witnesses to Allah, even against yourselves or your parents or your relatives, and whether it be (against) rich or poor for Allah can best protect both.

(Surat an-Nisaa, 4:135)

Who is better than Prophet (s)? No one! Asaas al-mulk al-`adl, the foundation of running a country depends on justice. If you give one support you have to give the other support, you have to give equally.

االناس سواسيه كااسنان المشط

People are equal like the teeth of a comb.

The poor ask, “Why do I have to take less while you take more?”

The wealthy answer, “Because I have money, so I take more.”

The poor say, “You already have more than me, so give me something for balance, equilibrium.”

So that man came to Prophet (s) and said, “This issue is bothering me and my wife said I cannot accept it without your decision, as you will make the right decision.” Look how `adl, justice is. Who can be `adil today? Prophet (s) gave his `adl speech. You must have `adl in your life and on your body, not to overload the other side, you must be fair with it. Allah gave you eight hours of work, eight hours of sleep, and eight hours to socialize with the family and take care of them, to give everyone their right. Your body needs eight hours’ sleep and you need to give Allah His taxation, `ibaadah, and to be with the family and children as they need your love, so you cannot work sixteen hours and take the right of the children out. You need `adl, justice, in communities, in countries, in education, in everything.

Sayyidina Bayazid al-Bistami (q) said, “Yaa Rabb! I want to pray two raka`ts like no one prayed before!” He is a wali, smelling the fragrance of Paradise. He is an `alim, a scholar and more, he is a high wali. He said, “Yaa Rabb! I want to pray two raka`ts that no one prayed like that for You before.”

Allah (swt) sent an angel to tell his heart, "Yaa `abdee, go ahead.”

He said, “Allahu Akbar,” and immediately he was in front of the Ka`bah. When you go to Mecca, you keep your gaze on the Ka`bah, although normally all your life you must keep your gaze on the place of sajda.

As soon as he finished his prayer, he heard, "Yaa Zhaalim! O oppressor! I gave ni`mat for you and you did not keep it right. You said you want to pray two raka`ts clean and pure, but you oppressed something that belongs to Me, your body, and you leaned on your left leg more than on your right leg!” Allah (swt) scolded him because he said he wants to pray two raka`ts out of ego. “That is not `adil, you have to lean the same on the left as on the right.” How do we pray? Sometimes we lean right, sometimes left, sometimes we spread our legs and a jinn might come and take something. Saw sufoofakum, “straighten your lines,” but they spread their feet to touch each other and they put their feet on top of yours! Then one who is not happy puts his feet on yours and they destroy the prayer by moving their feet.

So he heard a voice calling, "Yaa Zhaalim!" He thought he will pray a perfect prayer: don't think you are perfect! If Allah wants to pick on you then He will bring up everything you did in your life, which is why Prophet (s) said to Sayyida `Ayesha:

من حوسب عذب

(Yaa `Ayesha!) Who will be judged will be punished for sure. (Bukhari)

Whoever is judged is going to be punished. So that poor guy, he wants `adil, justice. You see heavy these beams in the ceiling? They sacrificed themselves to carry the load of the building. Allah gave you beams, legs, to balance your system, not to overload your system. People today go to gyms or jogging, thinking they will stretch their legs to live longer. Allah said that when death comes, you will not see one minute more or one minute less. You see people running on streets like crazy or they go to the gym, and also do business talking to each other, standing side by side, they even do business naked.

So that man said,”Yaa Rasoolullah, I have a servant,” you know in those days they had helpers in the house. “I know my son is suffering from so many things, so I gave him my helper.”

Prophet said, “Okay.”

The man said, “But my wife said, no, I cannot accept that decision, and she asked me to ask you if it right or wrong.”

What do you say, is it right or wrong? Allahu wa rasoolahu `alam, Allah and His Prophet know best.

Prophet (s) looked at him and said, “Do you have other children?”

The man said, “Yes,”

Prophet (s) said, “Then you have to give all of them a helper like you gave the eldest one. You must give equally, then I will accept what you did. You have to give your heirs an equal share and be just so that one of your children will not say, “Why did you give to him and not me? They must receive the same from you, so go back and give everyone a helper or, otherwise, release the helper you gave the one."

The man said, “I cannot give to all of them.”

Prophet (s) said, “Don't let your children become enemies to you when you die, give each of them equally.”

Awliyaullah know hearts of people and they prepare them to receive knowledge equally: they cannot give one more than they give to another as all are his mureeds and the shaykh is responsible, not you. He gave his hand; why he extended his hand if he is not responsible? He is responsible to take care everyone. Therefore, awliyaullah give equal shares of their suhbat to everyone, even if a king comes and sits with them and a poor person is sitting, he gives the same to each of them. In your eyes, they might give more respect to this one over that one, but that is only because one of them needs more attention from the shaykh, it does not mean he does not give you equally. He gives them with his heart what he gives the other with his tongue. Don't think you invented the wheel! Awliyaullah know their followers one by one.

One time Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Adil told me, “All the mureeds are like jewels on my turban. If any jewel is missing, then it looks ugly.” Yes, he might give more attention to one than another, because otherwise that one will run away.

So that man went away and took his helper back. Prophet did not let enmity grow in the family, and if he had left the one with more than the others, enmity will grow. So take your money. Awliyaullah protect everyone from Iblees and his soldiers equally. Even if you see that some are doing more dhikr or they are more pious, no: awliyaullah will happily give a share to them on Judgment Day, because at that time they will see the mercy of Allah (swt) is covering everyone, so they cannot say they gave him more or gave him less as everyone will be happy with what they have.

May Allah (swt) forgive us and may Allah bless us,

Wa min Allahi ‘t-tawfeeq bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
