What Kind of Power Did Allah Give to Prophet?

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

Suhbah at ICC

Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Aalameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een. Alhamdulillahi ‘lladhee hadaana li ’l-islami wa maa kunna an nahtadee law laa an hadanaa ‘Llah, Alhamdulillahi ’lladhee ja`alanaa min ummati ‘l-habeebi ‘l-mustafa `alayhi afdalu ’s-salaat wa ’s-salaam. Wa nashhadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, wa laa matheela lahu fee `uloowi sha’nihi wa `azheemi sultaanih. Wa nashhadu anna sayyidina wa mawlana Muhammadan `abduhu wa habeebahu wa rasooluh arsalahu rahmatan li ‘l-`aalameen.

O brothers and sisters, I am not that one who is qualified to be anything, I'm really saying it from my heart. We are like ants at the threshold of `ulama and awliya and we are the smallest ants at the door and threshold of Prophet (s), if he accepts us. We are nothing, zero, at the Divine Presence, al-hadra al-ilahiyya. We do not exist, the only existence is Allah (swt), no one exists except Allah. So if we are not existing, and this is the reality--when someone dies and goes to the grave he is no longer existing to us except through his deeds--then existence is only for The One Who creates and doesn’t need anyone except Himself! We have to know our limits as Muslims and as human beings and we have to know our ways:

وَأَلَّوِ اسْتَقَامُوا عَلَى الطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَاهُم مَّاء غَدَقًا

If they had (only) remained on the (right) Way, We should certainly have bestowed on them rain in abundance. (Surat al-Jinn, 72:16)

“If they know their ways and kept it,” Allah says in the Holy Qur’an, “I will shower them with rain (bless them), surely We will send on them the realities and dress them from Our Heavenly Dresses.” Allah sent 124,000 prophets, to send the Message to all of Creation. This number, 124,000 prophets, is not my calculation or addition, it’s from the tafsir of Ibn Abbas in Surat al-Araaf regarding the verse:

When Moses came to the place appointed by Us and his Lord addressed him, he said, “O my Lord! Show (Yourself) to me, so I may look upon You.” God said, “By no means can you see Me (directly), but look upon the mount; if it remains in its place, then you shall see Me.” When his Lord manifested His glory on the mount, He made it as dust and Moses fainted. When he came to his senses, he said, “Glory be to You! To You I turn in repentance and I am the first to believe.” (Surat al-Araaf, 7:143)

Musa (a) asked Allah, "Let me see you."

Allah said, "You cannot see Me.” Full stop! “First come to Me with humbleness.” Yet Allah gave him a chance, “You can if you prepare yourself,” because Allah can be seen in Paradise only as it is mentioned by Prophet (s): Allah can be seen through His Creation, His Oneness can be seen and understood from His Creation, how He created people, created everything, to see His Azhamah, Grandeur, in everything, in trees, in mountains, in mines, in different types of human beings, in the universe!

The other speaker spoke about the solar system. How we cannot accept and worship Allah (swt), The One that created this universe? Who can create? Show me one that can create a sun or moon or stars! Where are these scientists, lecturers, `ulama, physicists? Can they produce a star? No, they cannot, they only have theories.

Allah (swt) created Creation from nothing, from `adam, nowhere, no origin, non-existence. Kun fa-yakoon! Say to a thing, “Be!” and it will be. `Ulama and awliya say before Allah mentions "kun", when His iraada comes, it is already kun! Khalaqa min `adam, even to that extent, thumma a`dam. They say also, khalaq ‘l-`aalama min `adamin fa `adamahu, He created the whole Creation from nothing and He would send them back to nothing.

What we see now are images of our originality because already we have been dissolved because we die, we disappear. He created us from nothing and He will render us back to nothing.

Whose will be the dominion that Day? That of God, the One, the Irresistible! (Surat al-Ghafit, 40:17)

“To whom is the Kingdom today?” Allah says in the Holy Qur’an, saying to Himself, “To The One that can destroy everything and bring them back!” So we are nothing, we are images as it is mentioned by many awliya or`ulama, sincere pious servants of Allah, that we cannot declare anything of our existence except to say we are `abeed, servants of Allah. Even Prophet (s) said:

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلاً مِّنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ لِنُرِيَهُ

مِنْ آيَاتِنَا إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ البَصِيرُ

Glory be to He Who transported His servant by night from the Inviolable House of Worship (at Mecca) to the Remote House of Worship (at Jerusalem), the environs of which We had blessed so that We might show him some of Our symbols, for verily He Alone is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. (Surat al-Israa’, 17:1)

Praise be to Allah. He is praising Himself! "Praise be to Allah who took His servant to Masjid al-Aqsa," and then He took him in Mi`raaj. Can anyone do that? No, so, then why we are seeing this one as rich, this one as poor, this one as arrogant, this one as doubtful, this one thinks everyone else is at fault and he is right, don’t look at other than yourself. Prepare yourself that you are going to be asked one day, “Who is your Creator?” When someone dies, in the grave Ankar and Nakir (a) will come and ask you, “Who is your Creator?” Can you guarantee that your tongue will move? Or will it be frozen? Can we guarantee, when they ask, “Who is your prophet?” to say “Sayyidina Muhammad” (s)? Can we guarantee to say the Qur’an is our book? Can we guarantee to say our religion is Islam? We cannot guarantee anything. Give me a letter to show you are guaranteed! The Prophet (s) gave ten Sahaabah baraa’atun min an-naar, he guaranteed them safety from Hellfire. Do we have such guarantees? No. So what we have to do? To stay in sajda, worshipping. I am not saying stop working, work and take care of your family, but when you are free be a worshipper.

I go back to 124,000 and he said in his tafsir of Surat al-`Araaf, when Musa (a) asked to see, Allah said “No,” lan taraanee, but it is to make you feel the reality, because why to ask that question from the beginning? Sayyidina Musa (a) used to ask too many questions, and that is for our benefit, asking the questions and getting the answers, that’s why `ulama of Azhar don’t like their students to question them. When they say something that’s it, if you like it is fine, if you don’t like it you don’t need to come here. So He said, “Look at the mountain, if the mountain stays in its place when I bestow My Beautiful Names and Attributes then you will see Me.” When Allah manifested His Beautiful Names, Living Names, Oceans of Knowledge that awliya can write books on one letter, now we read the Holy Qur’an, as the doctor said they did a great job dividing it into ajzaa, making it easy to read, Holy Qur’an is Alive. Whoever says it is not alive is going outside the borders of Islam, it is a rukn, cornerstone of Islam to believe in the Holy Qur’an, you cannot say “aamantu billahi wa malaa’ikatihi wa rusulihi” without saying “wa kutubihi”. Kutub has to be accepted because they are the reservoir, the Ocean of Power. Every Name has Realities, not one Reality, but plural. We have to think.

So Sayyidina Musa (a) looked through one Name and it was enough to destroy a whole mountain. They said in the tafsir Ruh al-Bayan that when he woke up from fainting he saw people in lines and one in front leading them in prayers; he knew they were 124,000 prophets, and it is said that every Sahaabi (r) is at the foot of a prophet (r). There are also 124,000 Sahaabah (r). That number came from there. Allah sent these prophets to spread the message of brotherhood:

يُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَى وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ

إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ

O Mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has taqwa. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware. (Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:13)

“We created you male and female,” innaa khlaqnaakum min dhakarin wa unthaa, created from which material? Is it a fabric or something special from which Allah (swt) has created Creation? From Noor an-Nabi (s)! Many `ulama accept that. It is in the hadith of Ibn Asakir. He created us to know what? To know Him, to know who is the Creator. That's why `ulama’u ‘l-Islam, they try to come to that point: is it more difficult to create the human being or is it more difficult or to create the universe? Allah said:

Truly the creation of the Heavens and the Earth is greater than the creation of Man. (Surat Ghafir, 40:57)

“The creation of Heavens and Earth is greater than the creation of human beings.” What does that mean? “The creation of Heavens and Earth is greater than the creation of human beings,” that human being that has been created from Light. Allah created us, but He says "The creation of Heavens and Earth is greater than creation of human beings." That means there is something there in this universe. What is there that makes the creation of Heavens and Earth greater than the creation of human beings? We don't know, but what we know is:

سَخَّرَ لَكُم مَّا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعً

We subject to you whatever is in Heavens and in the Earth. (Surat al-Jaathiya, 45:13)

If you want to know, make sure that Allah (swt) will give you the command of Heavens and Earth as He said to His servants. If Allah is happy with His servants, He will give them the command of Heavens and Earth. Billions and billions and billions and trillions of stars and light years in billions, what is there?

Who knows? Anyone knows? Only one--the one who went to Israa wa ‘l-M`iraaj! Allah gave him (s) to know. That means that one is greater than Heavens and Earth because he is the only one that Allah brought to His Divine Presence, passing through this whole universe! What kind of power did Allah give to him?

O Muslim Ummah, O `ulama, O Muslims, open your heads, open your minds, you are intelligent, open everything in order to understand the reality of that human being that Allah loved, and we are in his month Sha`baan, open your mind to understand that he was the only one that was raised to Heavens! That is better than any kind of knowledge if you can understand how Prophet (s) was able to go, what kind of power he was able to go with? For Sayyidina Musa (a) the mountain shattered into powder and he fainted. Sayyidina Muhammad (s), his heart never shattered.

Had We sent down this Qur'an on a mountain, verily you would have seen it humble itself and cleave asunder for fear of Allah. Such are the similitudes that We propound to men that they may reflect.

(Surat al-Hashr, 59:21)

“If We reveal that Holy Qur’an, if We descend that Holy Qur’an on a mountain it will destroy it completely,” but He descended it on Prophet (s) and he didn't shatter. Qur’an is Kalamullah al-Qadeem, it is alive, its secrets will come. Allah will open. Why He gave us the Holy Qur’an? To understand behind what this verse means or that verse, or that, or that, or that.

We are in the month of Prophet (s). The Ummah will be dressed in Rajab with Tawhid, because the whole of Islam is based on Tawhid: that Allah is the Creator and everyone else is `abd. Rajab is the month of Tawhid. Sha`baan is the month of love to Prophet. As Allah dresses you in the month of Rajab with His Beautiful Names, Prophet will dress you from his Rahmah that Allah gave him. Then we enter into the month of Ramadan, it’s for the Ummah to receive all these gifts from Heavens.

That's why I want to come to a hadith from what I said, that Allah created us and honored us:

وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِي آدَمَ

We have honored the Children of Adam. (Surat al-Israa’, 17:70)

So everyone is honored with something that He knows best, what He honored everyone with. So to keep that honor is to keep respect with everyone, to keep good relationships between people, not to fight, not to humiliate people.

A man passed by the Prophet (s), so he asked a man who was sitting near him, "What is your opinion about this man?" That man replied: "He is one of the noblest men. By Allah he is certainly a proper person for (a girl) being given in marriage if he seeks to marry, and his recommendation is fit to be accepted if he recommends." The Messenger of Allah (swt) remained silent. Then another man passed. The Messenger of Allah (swt) enquired, "What is your opinion about this man?" He replied: "O Messenger of Allah, he is one of the poor Muslims. He is not a proper person (for a girl) to be given in marriage to, and his recommendation would not be accepted if he makes one; if he speaks, he is not to be listened to." The Messenger of Allah (swt) said, "He is better than the former by earthfuls!"

(Bukhari and Muslim)

Prophet (s) was sitting with one Sahaabi (r) in Madinatu ‘l-Munawwarah and someone passed by them and Prophet (s) asked his Companion, “What do you think about this man?”

O you who believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible) for suspicion in some cases is a sin, and spy not on each other, nor speak ill of each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? No, you would abhor it! (Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:12)

O believers! Avoid doubts on others, because many of these are doubts are wrong, are false. They are doubts. So he asked, “What do you think about this man?” the Companion replied, “He is one of the most honored people in the community. If he proposes to any family for their daughter, they would accept. If he intercede for anyone, they will accept his intercession, or if he asks for a favor from anyone, they will do it.” The Prophet (s) was silent, as we said before many times, silence. Be silent, don't talk or when you talk your tongue will go into sins, don’t talk, because then all badness that is inside comes on the tongue.

Then another man passed and Prophet (s) looked at his Companion asked again, “What do you think about this one? The first one you mentioned, now what about this one?” He said, “He is one of the poorest among the Muslims. If he proposes, they will refuse him, they will kick him out. If he intercede for you for any matter they will not accept his intercession, and if he says anything they block him.” What did Prophet (s) say? “This one is better than the first one, even if the whole Earth were full of ones like the first one, if you put all of them together with the first one, still the poor one is better!” Why? Don’t be mutakabbir.

(The Prophet [s] said) Shall I inform you about the people of Paradise? (They will be) every weak and oppressed person. Were he to swear by Allah, Allah would fulfill his oath....

(Narrated by Haritha bin Wahb. Bukhari, Muslim)

Everyone from Ahlu ‘l-Jannah is a person who was humble in dunya, and anyone in Hellfire is someone who was arrogant, mutakabbir. So don’t be arrogant. Be humble. Don't think you are going to take dunya in your hands. What Allah has written for it, you are going to say. No one can add anything, no one can change, finished. The pen is dry, what is written is written and you have to follow.

We follow those who teach us and guide us, teach us and guide us only on one matter, not on weapons and killing others, brainwashed, like many people today. No! Islam wants only one thing from you - to be humble. People of Jannah are humble...every humble one who became so humble. Every arrogant one who become jaahil, ignorant...don’t be ignorant and follow those who are brainwashing you, and brainwashing the whole Internet, don’t open it, don’t look at it. If Allah wants to clean the Ummah can He not send something that takes all the bad people away? Like He did with the people of Lut. He took them. `Aad and Thamud, He took them. He can! Allah gives you a chance but He will never forget, He will ask you. Those people who are happy to carry weapons and go for demonstrations, this group or that group, for what? Did Allah order you to kill people? Who gave you that power? Who assigned you khalifah? Did you assign yourself? You have to have every Muslim say this is a khalifah, to accept his bay`ah. Where can you get that? Khilafah is for one. As Prophet (s) says in many hadiths, it is for Sayyidina `Isa (a), and also in many hadiths for Sayyidina Mahdi (a). Some hadiths say there is no Mahdi except `Isa (a). Whoever it is, Mahdi (a) and `Isa (a), or `Isa (a) by himself, Khilafah is there, wait until it happens. If you die, no matter, we read Fatihah for you, you go. Wait. We are waiting 1400 years now. Prophet was telling the Sahaabah (r) about the Anti-Messiah since 1400 years. The Sahaabah (r) were thinking the Dajjal is coming from behind the palm trees, they were looking at the palm trees wondering when he is going to come out. They waited, we are waiting.

Haqq will come, baatil will go. Don’t follow baatil, don't follow machine guns. Islam is not about machine guns, Islam is a religion of tolerance, submission, harmony. It is like when Qaabil wanted to kill Haabil, Haabil said:

لَئِن بَسَطتَ إِلَيَّ يَدَكَ لِتَقْتُلَنِي مَا أَنَا بِبَاسِطٍ يَدِيَ إِلَيْكَ لِأَقْتُلَكَ ۖ إِنِّي أَخَافُ اللَّـهَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Even if you stretch out your hand towards me to kill me I will not stretch out my hand in the slightest towards you to kill you. Truly I fear Allah, Sustainer of the Worlds. (Surat al-Ma’ida, 5:28)

"I'm not extending my hand to kill you (his brother). If you want to kill me, I am surrendering." This is Islam, submission, surrender. If you be killed, you go to paradise. Tariqah is that. The reality of Tariqah is that. Any Tariqah. There are many tariqahs and shuyukh around the world, many scholars. Anyone who makes takfeer to any Muslims, he falls into the well of takfeer. They called them at-Takfeeriyyoon.

They are trying to destroy Islam from within and we are losing our focus from the reality of Creation. What is our job in dunya? Why we have been given different ages? Why does that one live 50 years, and that one 60 years, and that one 70 years? What is the reason? We were souls in the Presence of Allah (swt) in the Day of Promises. He created us as souls. What were we doing there? Are we thinking about this or are we thinking to take machine guns? Think about how you came to this universe, how the rooh entered your mother's womb, no one knows when it entered, it did not enter the wrong womb, but the right one.

Think about this Greatness. When someone dies, do you know when he will die? I was watching the news, a newscaster was reading the news, and as he was reading he fell down and died. Also a singer, while she was singing, and when death came she fell down, and she was shaking her feet and still singing, you can feel the rooh coming up, until the rooh came out of her mouth she was still singing. Two wrestlers were fighting. One won, and the other fell on the floor. People were counting for the one who fell on the floor, and as they were counting he tried to walk, then the one who won fell down and died. The one who won died, and the one who lost was still alive.

Who can guarantee? Think about that. Fight your nafs! Fight yourself, your ego. That is the real fight. Use all your powers within you, use your heart, your intelligence, to fight the nafs inside you that is ordering you and you are obeying its orders without realizing that you are doing something wrong.

He inspired the self of its good and its bad. (Surat ash-Shams, 91:8)

Allah has put in you Taqwa and showed you what is wrong and what is right in yourself. You know yourself better, “Who knows his limits, stands by his limits.” You are `abd, they are `abd. They are a different religion, Allah will take care of that. You take care of yourself! Pray! Do your fasting, read Qur’an, hadith, do salawaat. That is your duty, nothing else. After you finish your work that is your duty.

May Allah forgive us, may Allah bless us and make everyone happy and take away from us that badness and prepare us for the right way.

Ameen.
