Prophet (s) is not Like Us

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

5 June 2014 Singapore

Suhbah at Simply Islam

Salaam `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Our boss here--boss one, two and three--and the boss of Simply Islam asked me to make a short speech because he said he is hungry! (Laughter.) We are very honored, lana ash-sharaf al-kareem bi-hudoor, it is a big honor that we have Shaykh Fahmi Abdu ‘l-Qawiyy. Al-Qawiyy, not “The Powerful,” but “the Servant of The Powerful.” May Allah make us all al-Qawiyy, powerful on our Shaytan, to destroy our Shaytan and to destroy all the bad characteristics we have!

It is said that the Prophet (s) was asked by Allah (swt) in Laylat al-Israa’ wal-Mi`raaj, when he came by invitation, Allah asked him, “Describe Me, sifnee, yaa Rasoolullah,” and the Prophet (s) said, “O Allah! Anta ’l-Jabbar!” Jabbar, “The Overpowering,” and there is another word, “Majestic with All Power in His Hands,” al-Jabbar, “The Destroyer,” al-Mahiyy li kulli shayy, “You are The Destroyer.” Prophet (s) said, “Yaa Rabbee! Anta ’l-Jabbar, bihi alladee tumhee ma`asiyy ummatee, You are The Destroyer; with Your Power You erase all the sins of my ummah.” We ask Allah (swt) to destroy from us our sins, because there is no one who can raise his head, no prophet can raise his head on the Day of Judgment but the order comes to the Prophet (s) to stand in Allah's Presence!

How much you are lucky, shaykh. How much Sayyid ar-Rasul, Sayyid ar-Rahmat, we are lucky that we are chosen to be from the ummah of Habeeb ar-Rahmaan, laysa li `amaalina, not from our `amal, that we came from his ummah! Allah loves us. Allah created us lovers of the Prophet (s) and created us as lovers of Him or else we will not be in this position tonight!

Ummat an-Nabi (s) is not something easy on the tongue; it is like the Prophet (s) said, “Two words are very light on the tongue, but very heavy on the Scale, ‘SubhaanAllah wa bI-hamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem.’”

Ummat an-Nabi (s) is very light on the tongue, but very heavy on the Scale. We say, “We are Ummat an-Nabi,” but what does that mean? O `Ulama! O scholars, what does that mean? That sharaf, honor, is there nothing above it? All prophets with their ummahs will be coming to the Prophet (s) to be saved on Judgment Day. If all of them are coming asking for intercession, what about Ummat an-Nabi (s)? Allah put at-tayyib ma` at-tayyib, the good one, tasty one with the tasty one and good one with the sweet one and at-tayyiboona li-tayyibaat, the bad ones with the bad ones, and al-khabitheen lil-khabithaat:

الْخَبِيثِينَ وَالْخَبِيثُونَ لِلْخَبِيثَاتِ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلطَّيِّبِينَ وَالطَّيِّبُونَ لِلطَّيِّبَاتِ أُوْلَئِكَ مُبَرَّؤُونَ مِمَّا يَقُولُونَ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَرِزْقٌ كَرِيمٌ

Women impure are for men impure, and men impure for women impure, and women of purity are for men of purity, and men of purity are for women of purity. These are not affected by what people say. For them there is forgiveness and a provision honorable. (Surat al-Noor, 24:26)

Allah did not put khabeeth with the Prophet (s)! It is impossible. Prophet is the absolute tayyib; at-Tayyib is “the Good One,” that is one of the 200 names of the Prophet (s). Allah does not like except what is tayyib, sweet, and so the Prophet (s) is at-Tayyib, the Sweetest, and He put him with his ummah, so what is going to happen to the ummah? They are going to become tayyib!

I took some perfume and put it on me and I saw that he is with me, so I put some on Dr. Azizan, so he became tayyib; no, then I became tayyib, sweet and tasteful. So Allah put us with at-Tayyib, put the ummah with him, so we become from at-tayyiboon, the sweet ones. It is impossible for the Prophet (s) to leave one sin on his ummah on Judgment Day! The one who went to Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa, if he asked, can his du`a be rejected? That is impossible. We need to open our minds!

And on Judgment Day, the Prophet (s) will go into sajda and he said yaftah-ِllahu `alayya du`a lam yaftah `alaa ahadin min qabl, “Allah will open on my heart in that sajda du`as that were never opened to anyone before.” What kind of du`as? This is from hadith an-Nabi (s). Which form of praise? Will he praise Allah with du`as that in dunya he praised Allah, but in Akhirah Allah will open complete, unimaginable openings to the Prophet (s), the secrets of praising Allah! At that time the du`as are continuous, they do not stop. At that time Allah says:

يا محمد ارفع رأسك وسل تعط وقل يُسمع لك واشفع تشفع

O Muhammad! Raise your head, ask and you will be given! Say and you will be heard! Intercede and it will be accepted! (Bukhari)

What does Prophet (s) want? He wants his ummah, he wants his lovers! You will be first! Allah knows best, but the hearts of Allah's saints get this inspiration by Allah's generosity, and Allah will say, “Take one-third from your ummah to Paradise” with no account, and who are these from the ummah and how many are they?

لَقَدْ أَحْصَاهُمْ وَعَدَّهُمْ عَدًّا

He does take an account of them (all) and has numbered them (all) exactly.

(Surah Maryam, 19:94)

Allah will count them? He contained them and He knows them with their details. On Yawm al-Mahshar, hal yunadee fulaan wa fulaan, fardan fardan? aw yas'al ar-rasool haythu yumaththal al-ummah `ala al-itlaaq, will Allah (swt) ask each person on Judgment Day one-by-one ? No, the Prophet (s) will represent all of them, altogether. SubhaanAllah.

Ibn Ajeeba explained about `Ilm al-Awraaq and `Ilm al-Adhwaaq, Knowledge of Paper and Knowledge of Taste, but more than that it is Fard al-`Ayn, it is necessary to obtain Moral Excellence, Maqaam al-Ihsaan, to perfect the character. Although those two branches, Knowledge of Paper and Knowledge of Taste are well known, but the Moral Excellence is achieved through akhlaaq, the good manners.

‏انما بعثت لاتمم مكارم الاخلاق

The Prophet (s) said: I have been sent to perfect the best of conduct (your behavior and character). (Bazzaar)

Prophet (s) said, “I have been sent to perfect,” but in reality it is to ‘complete’ and not only to ‘perfect.’ Therefore, the Prophet (s) has been granted the power to “complete,” not only to “perfect.” I say to Dr. Azizan, “Don't do this, don't do this.” No, the Prophet (s) will take on his responsibility, that Dr. Azizan will be completed on good manners at the moment of death and the ummah, all of them, so that no one person dies but Prophet (s) will perfect him, as it is not possible that Allah will refuse the du`a of the Prophet (s)!

Therefore, when Jibreel (a) came with Surah Maryam, he recited, “Kaaf,” and the Prophet (s) said, “I knew it.” And he recited “Haa,” and he said, “I knew it.” And where was the Prophet (s) at that time? I cannot say in which universe, but in which presence? When he said, “I knew,” where was he? When Jibreel (a) said “Yaa,” Prophet (s) said, “I knew.” At that time, the Prophet (s) was in a Divine Presence and he knew what is the meaning of the letter Kaaf. Although the Revelation was coming with Jibreel (a) but Prophet (s) was knowing something different, at-Tayyib, the Sweetness, and Sweet with the Sweet.

Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

Alladhee anqada zhahrak.

Have We not expanded for you your breast? And We removed from you your burden that weighed so heavily on your back. (Surat ash-Sharh, 94:1-3)

Does Prophet (s) have wuzur/sins? He is ma`soom, infallible; from the Day of Promises when we all said, “Balaa, You are our Lord,” he has been ma`soom since that Day. So the sins that he is carrying are the sins of the ummah. Alladhee anqada zhahraq, “We took all your heavy load that is on your shoulder, We took that load that made you uncomfortable in dunya.” For the sake of whom, for what? Why does Allah want to save us? Because Allah is saving us by taking that heavy load from Prophet (s), which is us! Allah is doing this for us to be saved. For whose sake? For your sake, for his sake or any scholar’s sake? No, it is for Prophet’s (s) sake.

We are the children: the Prophet (s) is the father and he will not let us down. He will say, “Yaa Rabbee, Anta ‘l-Rabb, Allah. Allah! Yaa Sayyidee, Allah!

Al-alif tadoor `ala ’dh-dhaat qul Huw Allah!” If we remove the Alif then it is lillah, “to Allah,” nothing for us; everything Allah gave to the Prophet (s)! If you take the first Alif, everything He Owns, lillah; don’t claim it is for you, nothing of us, everything Allah (swt) gave to Prophet (s).

Don't say, “I am this” and “I am that,” laa takun muftakhiran, “Don't be proud and arrogant.” You are nothing, you are less than zero, not even minus of anything, infinity! You are under zero! Don't be arrogant, thinking that you are something. No, Allah (swt) honored you and every day you have to look at the mirror and say, “Thank You, yaa Rabb! You made me from the ummah of the Prophet (s). As You beautified my face, beautify my good manners.” Look in the mirror, as you cannot speak to the heart so speak to the mirror and look there.

O `ulama! Where are you? Are you sleeping tonight? I don't know. And if you remove the Laam then it is lahu, “belongs to Him.” One ant spoke, in which language?

One of the ants said, "O Ants! Enter your homes unless Sulayman and his armies unknowingly trample you." (Surat an-Naml, 27:18)

One ant was speaking with millions of ants. How do they all hear him? Qaalat namlatun, one ant, and all ants were hearing, idkhuloo masaakinakum. O Muslims! Run back to your homes!

فَفِرُّوا إِلَى اللَّهِ

Fa firroo il-Allah.

Flee to Allah!

Run to Allah, run to His Cave, the cave of Muhammad Rasoolullah, al-kahf al-Muhammadi.There is no way to run away except to run to the Prophet (s)!

‏‏أنا سيد ولد آدم ولا فخر

Anaa sayyidi waladi Adam was laa fakhr.

I am the Master (leader) of the Children of Adam and I say this with no arrogance.

(Musnad Ahmad)

“I am the master of the Children of Adam and I say it with no pride. I am the one whom Allah (swt) placed for you.” And he said in another place, to show how he has no pride:

قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُوحَى إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَا إِلَهُكُمْ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ فَمَن كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاء رَبِّهِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا

وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا

Say, "I am but a man like yourselves, (but) the inspiration has come to me that your Allah is one Allah. Whoever expects to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness and in the worship of his Lord admit no one as partner. (Surat al-Kahf, 18:110)

You go in Mi`raaj and then say that? That is enough for Ummat an-Nabi (s) to be in sajda day and night, because what the Prophet (s) received in Mi`raaj he will dress on the ummah. You think he will dress himself only and not share it with them? Where did the Prophet (s) go in Mi`raaj? He went to the First Heaven, then the Second, then the Third... Why does he have to go from one Heaven to another? In order for Allah to manifest to him all these different medallions on him in every Heaven!

Allah wants to dress him with His Beautiful Names and Attributes. Every Heaven has a different manifestation and Allah (swt) wants him to be in Complete Perfection, to dress him with all these dresses from His Divine Presence, to raise him to the Highest Station! What will he do with all these dresses, keep them or give them to ummah? He will give to his ummah! Money never gets less from a donation, so he gives his dresses and Allah gives him more!

O believers, O Muslims! Imam Muhammad al-Busayri (r) said, wa kullun min rasoolullaahi multamisun, “Everyone is in need of Prophet (s).” Every single one is receiving from the Prophet (s). Imam Busayri’s heart was open; he did not mean only the prophets here in this verse, but rather he meant each and every thing that Allah created--even trees, leaves, wind, the worms, the virus, the parasites, the bacteria--everything that you can think of, Allah made.

To understand that everything is taking from the Prophet (s) and taking madad, some of them in buckets from the ocean, and some in the drips of dew, Muhammad al-Busayri hid what he said in the first part of the verse; he doesn't want, as he exposed the secret in the first part of the verse, so he wants to cover in the second part of the verse. So he says, “in great quantities from oceans or in small drips,” and that is to indicate human beings, but no, it means everything, as his heart was open. We ask Allah (swt) to open our hearts! It is not easy; it is one of the most difficult principles or materials, to open our hearts.

We must eliminate our bad characteristics in order to open our hearts; like you go to a safety deposit box in the bank and open the first lock, and if you don't open the second lock you cannot open the box. So then you need a way to open the second lock, then the third, and finally you have to turn a big wheel in order to open it. In order that you are able to open [your heart], you eliminate one bad characteristic, then you have the second lock, then the third and you go on to open all the locks. Those [who open the locks] are awliyaullah.

That is why Allah (swt) said:

أَلا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاء اللّهِ لاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Alaa inna awliyaaullaahi laa khawfun `alayhim wa laa hum yahzanoon.

Behold! Verily on the Friends of Allah there is no fear, nor shall they grieve. (Surah Yunus, 10:62)

“They have no fear of anything,” because Allah dressed them with the dress of wilaya, sainthood. When the wali is dressed, will he keep that dress for himself? I know many awliyaullah that gave their jubba to their followers. Is that what is meant here by “dress”? No, it is Light, the Heavenly Light that Allah gives them, a drop of Heavenly Noor to their hearts so that wherever they go they are spotlights. May Allah (swt) forgive us and bless us.

Now I go to another [topic]. SubhaanAllah, if awliyaullah want something, Allah will not make them in a bad position, He will give them. From the blessings of our shaykh, may Allah bless his soul and make him to be with the Prophets and Veracious Ones and Martyrs and Pure Righteous Ones and the Prophet (s), I have felt some extraordinary tajalli, manifestation, that I had the honor to pray on him Salaat al-Janaza. With no pride, I was asked and pushed to do that and I did it, although there are better than me a hundred times, but it was for Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) to give me that honor, to pray on Mawlana Salaat al-Janaaza; it was his decision.

And before the janaaza, I also had the honor to wash him and then I had the honor to take him to al-Masjid al-Kabeer, the big mosque in Nicosia, to pray on him Salaat al-Janaaza. These are two big honors on me: to wash the shaykh and to pray on him janaza. It is Allah's Will; I never thought about it, but the issue I want to come to is that we went to bury him in his masjid, and we had dug a grave about 4 - 4.5 meters long. As my two sons were in the grave and Shaykh Bahauddin was also with me, they handed him to me very light, like a feather, and I hand it to them. Then I saw they don't know what to do, so I jumped in the grave and it was very deep, 2.5 - 3 meters. On one side, Omar [Kabbani] was putting Mawlana's head and on the other side I was putting his feet. They were not able to put his head correctly.

I jumped in and said, “You handle the left and I will handle the right,” and you see Mawlana's body coming from one end to the other of the grave, his head was rubbing on the wall from one side and his feet were rubbing the grave on the other side. It was like Mawlana had become four meters, so tall! I said to Omar, “Are you seeing what I am seeing?” SubhaanAllah! Mawlana Shaykh was giving a signal, and it might be some people here who are scholars don’t understand it. But Allah can make anything: it might be a vision I am seeing in order for them not to come against us. It might be I was sleeping and standing, but he was so long, subhaanAllah, and we buried him and covered him. I am sharing this with you to say that it was my honor to bury Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q).

Now I am thirsty and I have three bottles of water [in front of me], which am I going to drink? If I drink from any one of them it will it quench my thirst, yes or no? If I drink from this, I quench my thirst, this yes, this yes, this yes. Also we have three different colors of dates. Whatever it is, if I take one from here or here, it is a date, one is sweeter than the other, but they are all dates and taste the same. Can you say they are not dates? You eat it, if it is black or white or yellow or blue, still it is a date. [Same with] these different bottles: if I drink from this or that, still it is water. This one is not cold. So drink from the water that you like, drink the water that is more near to your heart and makes your chemistry to work with it, as it solves the problem.

Two Announcements

In March this year, I went to Cyprus with Hajjah Naziha and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said before I left, Allah is my witness, he said, “I want for you to put forty mosques.” On my head [I accept that responsibility[, I don't have one penny for one masjid even, but as he managed for me to buy four masaajid before, he can manage for someone to help to put forty masjids.

That is not the only question. I said, “Mawlana can we do, as everyone says ‘Naqshbandi-Haqqani,’ this is a nice word, but there are some blacklisted terrorists in Pakistan carrying that name (Haqqani) and people are asking us are we part of it.” And so I asked, “Can we change the name of this tariqah to ‘Naqshbandiyya-Nazimiyya’? At least we are mentioning your name.”

I heard a story from Grandshaykh `AbdAllah, may Allah bless his soul, that when the Prophet (s) was sitting with the Sahaabah (r) informally, laying down or sitting comfortably with them, the Sahaabah always try to come from behind him to say salaam to him, and they come around a second time to get another time salaam from him. And I heard from Grandshaykh that Bayazid al-Bistami (q) was sometimes getting in problems with `ulama because of the things he was saying, but the issue here is that I heard from Grandshaykh (q) that when a wali is mentioned on the tongue of someone, if he mentioned him bad or good, that wali is responsible to take him under him on Judgment Day!

العلماء ورثة الانبياء

Al-`ulama warathat al-anbiyaa.

The scholars are the inheritors of prophets.

Warathat al-anbiya in what? Everyone understands that warath is knowledge, it is not only in knowledge, but in everything, ma`rifah, haqaa’iq and everything else. The wali can take from the Prophet (s) according to his level. The Prophet (s) will inherit [bequeath] him some of his secrets, because:

عند ذكر الصالحين تنزل الرحمة

`Inda dhikr as-saaliheen tanzil ar-rahmah.

In the mention of the pious pure ones, mercy descends.

When a pious person and his `amal are mentioned, then mercy descends, and that is very well-known. So why we don't need to mention the name of our shaykh? I don't understand. To mention his name on every tongue, not to mention the Pakistani terrorists, although not every Pakistani is a terrorist, but why do we have to mention those who are blacklisted [Haqqani network]?

So I said to Mawlana, can we say ‘Naqshbandiyya-Nazimiyya’? And so tonight we are declaring and announcing after a long time that we have already established The Hajjah Naziha Charitable Society, as my wife (Hajjah Naziha) wants to make on her father's soul to make charity, to dig wells in Africa and give food around the world, and the Tariqat Naqshbandiyya-Nazimiyya will be the umbrella organization to do charitable work and to do da`wah on the name of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) in the way we understand tariqah.

I am 57 years on the way of Grandshaykh (q) and Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil (q). I know something, I know a drop of what they like to speak about. We announce the birth of that new organization, The Hajjah Naziha Charitable Society, and under the organization Tariqat Naqshbandiyya-Nazimiyya in order to do charity and da`wah. And in order to avoid fitna, I did discuss this with Shaykh Mehmet, my brother-in-law, and said, “I am doing this by Mawlana Shaykh’s order.” He said, “I have no problem, you do anything you want as it is a benefit for all of us.” And I want this to be known to everyone; if you don't believe it, ask him. So from now on, this tariqah is and will be Tariqat Naqshbandiyya-Nazimiyya and we add, as Shaykh Adnan recommended, the title al-`Aliyya.

And I will say something. When we were at the maqaam of Habib Noh and in Southeast Asia, as we were at maqaams of all awliyaullah in India, the inspiration came to me to appoint Razib as everyone likes him, and Abdul-Shakor as the second. If they are here, then Razib first and Shakor second. They will run the Naqshbandiyya-Nazimiyya al-`Aliyya here in Singapore. He was 17 years with Mawlana and many years with Hasan al-Bahr and very close to Shaykh Zakariyya and Shaykh Ibrahim. Now Shaykh Ibrahim is like me, retired! (Laughter.) And so these two young men will carry the responsibility of the tariqah to be peaceful and one that tolerates everyone, to conduct interfaith programs and to do whatever you can for the benefit of the country and the reputation of good muslims and good mum’ins, inshaa-Allah. So this is an appointment coming from Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil (q) to Grandshaykh (q) all the way from the Prophet (s). Inshaa-Allah that will be through that line of Naqshbandiyya-Nazimiyya al-`Aliyya Tariqat.

May Allah give me the power to run this, as it is not easy. When awliyaullah dress someone with a dress, they know it is going to be heavy, but that heaviness will slowly, slowly disappear and inshaa-Allah both of you can handle it well. If you need advice, you have elders to give you and if you don't need advice you will be okay, do according to your ilhaam. You have been with Mawlana for 10-13 years, and so may Allah bless both of you and both of you come and I renew your baya` with Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil (q). Don't stand, remain sitting and put your hands over the shoulders of everyone.

[Baya`.]

Also, just now Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil (q) is giving, another inspiration came, for Dr. Azizan. He, for his own people, especially in the country that they are Muslim, so before, when you give them as a preliminary to put them on the way, when you teach them, at the end let them put their hands and recite Shahadah and Ayat al-Baya`, which I will write for you, because under this baya`, for new people it is important to attract them to tariqah. Your work is, and baya` is, to bring people together by this way. The people who know you and connect with you, you connect them to awliyaullah to Tariqah Naqshbandiyya-Nazimiyya, to connect to the Golden Chain, from Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r), and there is another Golden Chain coming from Sayyidina `Ali (r) and both of them meet in Ja`far as-Sadiq (r). I give you permission and renew it for you.

[Baya`.]

I was asking you from where you came and you said from Kuala Lumpur, and that you came to take baya`. It is written for you to be on that Golden Chain from Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q). They brought you here tonight for that. Keep on that and do your best. Inshaa-Allah your dunya and your Akhirah will be blessed.

So if you drink from any bottle, it will be the same: if you drink from this one, it is up to you, might be a different color; if you drink from this one, it is water also, so drink, as any one of them take you to the same place as it is water. May Allah bless you.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. (Du`a. al-Fatihah.)
