How to Build Palaces in Heaven

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

29 March 2014 Burton, Michigan

Suhbah at As-Siddiq Mosque

Salaam 'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh. Alhamdulillahi rabbi ‘l-`alameen wa ‘s-salaatu wa ‘s-salaamu `ala ashrafi ‘l-mursaleen Sayyidina Muhammad (s) wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa sallim. Alhamdulillahi ‘l-ladhee sharafanaa bi noori ‘l-imaan bi noori ‘l-islaam bi noori ‘l-qur’an.

Alhamdulillah Who has opened our hearts to Islam and to the Holy Qur'an and made Sayyidina Muhammad (s) the Prophet to all of us. O believers! Be conscious of Allah for verily Allah is with those who are conscious of Him and those who do good. Verily the religion of God is Islam.

Brothers and sisters! We are here in a remote area in Michigan where there is lot of snow and we are waiting for that snow to melt. I heard from Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, he said that with every drop of snow, not a drop, a particle, a flake of snow doesn’t descend without an angel. An angel has to bring it down and if someone looks at the snow and `azhama rabbahu, glorified Allah for His blessings of sending snow, that flake that is representing one angel, carried by one angel, that angel will make tasbeeh until Day of Judgment and all that tasbeeh will be written for you as if you did that tasbeeh! Grandshaykh (q) said angels will be raised up as soon as the snow melts. So in Daghestan, his country, they used to say, “Yaa Rabbee, keep the snow!” for the barakah of the angels which come with the snow. Now we are in an area where there is a lot of snow and it will remind us, subhaanAllah, of the Creator and when you remember Him you glorify Him, as with dhikr of Allah the hearts go into tranquility.

With dhikrullah happiness, peacefulness, contentment and many other words, makes the heart feel happy. So the Prophet (s) has mentioned many ahadeeth and I think we should hear some of them that are very important in order to encourage us to do more. Islam is to encourage to do more, because if you do more you get rewarded more and if you do less you will be rewarded less. Don’t say, “It is a repetition,” because every day there is a different manifestation of mercy coming from Heavens on Earth or else we would have disappeared a long time ago if these blessings were not coming on Earth.

I heard from Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, many years ago, “If I repeat the same story a thousand times, every time I repeat that story it will come with a meaning and it will come with different rewards and it will be considered a new suhbat, a new story, it will carry the manifestation that is coming on that moment from Heavens. So that is why we always have to remember Allah (swt) with His Grants that He granted us.

rawaa Abu Ishaaq `ani’l-aghar ibn Abee Muslim annahu shahida `alaa abee sa`eed al-khudree wa abee hurayrata anahumaa shahidaa `alaa rasoolillahi sall Allahu `alayhi wa sallam annahu qaal. These two Sahaaba (r) Abu Sa`eed al-Khudree and Abu Hurayrah (r) said that they witnessed that the Prophet (s) said something which is very important. What did he say? Prophet (s) said: idha qaala al-`abdu laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa Allahu Akbar qaala yaqoolu ’Llah tabaraaka wa ta`ala sadaqa `abdee. “If Allah's servant says ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah,’ (everyone repeats), ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah w ’Allahu Akbar,’ Allah says, “My servant said the Truth.”

When Allah says, “My servant said the Truth,” then Allah will never throw that servant in Hellfire because that servant is trustworthy as he said, ‘laa ilaaha illa-Llah, There is no Creator but Allah; there is no god but Allah (swt).’ He is believing and confirming what he is believing, he does not accept any association, any partner with Allah, He accepts the Wahdaniyyatullah (awj), His Uniqueness and His Oneness. what does Allah say? Sadaqa `abdee, “My servant said the Truth.” If you want to say the truth, say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Allahu Akbar.”

Then, qaaloo yaqoolullah tabaraka wa ta`ala sadaqa `abdee laa ilaha illa Anaa, wa Akbar, confirming by Himself to Himself “there is no Creator except Me and I am the greatest, anaa Akbar.” No limit on His Greatness, so much that you cannot describe, you cannot say. wa idhaa qaal laa ilaaha illa-Llah wahdahu, then Allah says, sadaqa `abdee, “My servant said the truth,” laa ilaaha illa Anaa wahdee, “I am confirming that He said, ‘There is no one except Me alone.’”

So you have to believe everything is from Allah (swt) and by Him alone, no shareek, no partner, no children, lam yalid wa lam yulad, “He never was born and never gave birth, He is alone by Himself.”

wa idha qaala laa ilaaha illa-Llah wahdahu laa shareek lahu qaala sadaqa `abdee, laa ilaaha illa Anaa laa shareeka lee, when you say Allah is alone, no partner, He says, “My servant said the truth, ‘There is no one partner with Me.’” Wa idhaa qaala laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa laa hawla wa la quwatta illa billah qaala sadaqa `abdee laa ilaaha illa Anaa wa laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa bee, “And when My servants say, ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah wahdahu laa shareek lahu wa laa quwatta illa bi laa quwatta illa billah,’ Allah says, “There is no god except Me, the Creator, and the Power is in My Hand.”

That’s why Allah (swt) is happy with His servants everywhere when they glorify Him; when they glorify Him, then Allah will give them Heavenly buildings. Today people are running to buy homes, they say for investment and to rent them. To do what? Investment. Did you say, “Can we buy and have investment in Akhirah, in Paradise?” We need investment in Akhirah, it is not free! As you invest in dunya to buy a house, we need investment in Akhirah to have a house, to have a palace, to be rewarded.

Inna door al-jannati tubna bi ’dh-dhikr fa idhaa amsaka adh-dhaakri `ani’dh-dhikri amsakati ’l- malaa’ikata `ani’l-binaa. fa yuqaalu lahum, fayaquloona: hattaa taateena bi-nafaqa.

From Hakeem bin Muhammad al-Akhnasee who said, “It has reached me that the homes in Paradise are built by angels through dhikrullah and when the rememberer stops making dhikr the angels stop building.” And it is said to them, and they say, “not until we are paid.” (athar of Ibn Abi ’d-Dunyaa)

You make dhikr and they make Paradises, they build it for you according to your dhikr, they build it custom-made. What is custom-made? You give them the design, but are you clever enough to give them the design? They have the best angels who design for you! Don't think Allah (swt) is not generous. He is generous, He gives from whatever He wants and to whomever He likes!

Trade. If you want to trade with Akhirah you make dhikr, if you stop making dhikr you stop trading, and what does “you stop trading” mean? Angels will stop giving you paradises in Heavens. So what you want? To keep dhikrullah. Always remember Allah (swt):

Alladheena yadhkuroonallaha qiyaaman wa qu`oodan wa `alaa junoobihim wa yatafakkaroona fee khalqi ’s-samaawaati wa ’l-ard.

Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting and lying down on their sides, and contemplating the creation of the Heavens and the Earth. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:191)

“Those who remember Allah standing, sitting,” like we are sitting, “or laying down,” all the time we are remembering Allah (swt), but unfortunately we are remembering our desires, how we can contain our desires and and find ways to satisfy our pleasures and dunya desires, is it not? Does anyone think how to win Allah’s Pleasure and desires for Akhirah? No, we are only thinking how to have desires in dunya, all of us, me, you and everyone. So what does Allah want from us? To remember Him. By remembering Him we are making ourselves busy with love of Allah (swt), because when you mention something or you remember something it means you love that thing. Especially today people love cars, racing cars or antique cars or a new fashion car. Did we think in Paradise how we are going to move from one place to another? Do we need a heavenly car? Why not? By “Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem” that heavenly car will be wherever you like. Even awliyaullah in dunya say “Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem” and move in space, because of what? Because of dhikrullah!

Behold! In the creation of Heaven and Earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding, those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting and lying down on their sides, and contemplating the creation of the Heavens and the Earth, (saying), "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose! Glory to You! Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.” (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:191-192)

In every moment they are remembering Allah, not remembering themselves. Now we are not saying, “Don’t work in dunya,” no. You have a family, you have children, you have responsibilities, you work, but don’t forget about your Akhirah, as Sayyidina `Ali (r) said, “Work for yourself, your world, your life, dunya, as if you are living forever and do for your Hereafter as if you are dying tomorrow.”

Can anyone guarantee for himself or herself that he goes out of this masjid? If Allah wants that person to die, at any moment you might die. There was, about six or seven years ago, you know `Abdul Qadir who comes here from Canton? His father, they were praying taraweeh in Ramadan, and in the eighth or sixth raka`at they went to sajda, “Allahu Akbar,” and went into sajda, and then, “Allahu Akbar,” they sat, and that man did not come up. He died in sajda, his father, in taraweeh. The son comes here. Who can guarantee (his life) when he is fasting and he went to pray taraweeh and he died in prayer and in sajda? What do you want better than that? This person will go to Paradise with no account. We don't know, so our duty is to remember Allah (swt) and Allah remembers us.

Anaa jaleesu man dhakaranee.

I sit with him who remembers Me. (Ahmad, Bayhaqi)

“I am sitting with the One who remembers Me,” so remember your Lord by remembering Him, then Allah will open to your heart what you like. People come and say, “Pray for me.” What to pray for you? Doesn’t Allah know your problem? Allah doesn’t know? Allah knows, but it’s good from you to ask because it shows tawada`u, humbleness, so it’s good for you to come to someone and ask, that shows humbleness. But Allah doesn’t know what you need?

Id`oonee astajib lakum wakkil al-hawwaaij ila Allah wa laa ta`tamid illa `alayh, “Don’t depend on anyone except Him; ask everything from Him and don’t depend on anyone but Allah (swt).”

“Call on Me, I give you what you want.” Do not call on your desires. Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammad.

Wa dhakara ibn Abi Dunya min hadeethi Abee Hurayrata `ani ’n-nabiyy sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallim annahu qaal, man qaala subhaanAllah wa bi-hamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`azheem saba`a marraat buniya lahu burjun fi ’l-jannah,

The Prophet (s) said: Whoever repeats ‘subhanallah wa bihamdihi al-`azheem’ seven times, Allah will build for him a huge tower in Paradise.”

That tower can be seen by everyone from far way, but you have to recite seven times! SubhaanAllah wa bi-hamdihi subhaanAllah` al-`azheem [repeats 7 times].

That hadith of Prophet (s), Allah will build for you a tower in Paradise, you are guarantee a tower in Paradise now, is it not? The Prophet (s) said it, we didn’t say it, you didn’t say it, Prophet (s) said it.

wa kamaaa an binaahaa bi ’dh-dhikr fa gharaasu basaateenihaa bi ’dh-dhikr,

Ibn Qayyim continues: “As these Paradises are built for you from dhikr, also all gardens in that Paradise containing any kind of heavenly trees are all created from dhikr.”

Not dunya trees, dunya trees are like the shell of the Paradise trees, has no taste, whole dunya trees, if you bring all dunya fruit trees and eat their fruits, they are not like one tree in Paradise. Allahu Akbar! What kind of trees? What kind of trees? Young boys here, don't be like this one here, old and like me, and this one here, be from your childhood remembering Allah (swt)! All trees of dunya don’t taste like one tree of Paradise, all trees of dunya don't taste like it. What Allah is giving to His servants, Allahu Akbar!

Kamaa taqaddama hadeethi ’n-nabiyy sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam anna Ibraheemi ’l-Khaleel `alayhi s-salaam: inn al-Jannata tayyibatu ’t-turbata `adhbatu ’l-maa wa inna ghiraasuhaa subhaanAllah wa ’lhamdulillah wa laa ilaaha illa ’Llah w’Allahu Akbar.

The Prophet (s) said about Sayyidina Ibrahim, Friend of the Merciful, (a), that “Paradises in Heavens are sweet, containing the best kind of soil.”

What kind of soil? What kind of soil? Look, what I have to tell you, look at the soil. I was in London two years ago on one trip and the host said, “Do you like to make ziyarah to Holy Hair of the Prophet (s)?” and I said, “Of course!” It was Ramadan. So he brought the Holy Hair and we made ziyarah, made shahaadah there and we make salawaat on Prophet (s) and this one was making qaseedah, and I said to him, “This is too big, can I take half?” He didn’t want to say no to me, because he loves me, so he said, “Okay,” but I know how his heart went with the half. So he brought the scissors and he cut half and I took it and brought it here. It is one of the hairs that we sometimes bring out to make ziyarah. He put the other half back in the soil, which is a certain kind of soil they use to put the Holy Hair (s) in; it is made of sandalwood, which they make like powder, very expensive, high quality sandalwood and they bring the musk of the deer, it is like piece of, not wood or another element, they crush it, it is black, and they mix it with the sandalwood and put the other half of the Holy Hair (s) in that soil, which is turbatan tayyiba, “sweet soil.”

Next year, second year I came and he said, “Do you like to visit the Holy Hair?” I said, “Yes.” And he had not opened it all year and he brought it and opened it and I said to him, “Yunus, what is this?” Allahu Akbar! It had gone back to its original size. Allahu Akbar! It went all the way back, it grew by itself. So now people take some and it grows, because turbatan tayyiba; the Prophet’s (s) body is alive, so it grows up.

So Allah will give you in Paradise as it is mentioned, Jannatu tayyibatu-turbatuhu, the soil of Paradise is sweet, nice, fertile, wa innahu ghiraasuha subhaanallah wa ‘l-hamdulillah wa laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa Allahu Akbar, “and the plantation in it, the seeds are subhanallah wa ‘l-lhamdulillah wa laa ilaaha illa-Llah w’Allahu Akbar.” These are the seeds. As much as you do seeds in dunya, meaning saying “Subhaanallah wa ‘l-hamdulillah wa laa ilaaha illa-Llah w’Allahu Akbar,” Allah will give you a different tree in Paradise and that tree will pull you, even if you are punished in Hellfire, no one can take it from you as Allah gave it to you.

Ibn Qayyim continues (in al-Waabil as-Sayyib):

إن الذكر سد بين العبد وبين جهنم

Inna adh-dhikra saddun bayna al-`abdi wa bayna jahannam,

Dhikr is a fence, as shield between the servant of Allah and Hellfire.”

Anyone making dhikrullah, there will be a shield between him and Hellfire. May Allah (swt) give us turbatan tayyiba and give us different trees in Heavens and different places that we can be in Heavens inshaa-Allah. And now we will be doing Khatm al-Khawajagan, dhikrullah, as it is important for us to make dhikrullah in order to build our homes for us in Paradise.

People believe or don't believe or have doubts about whether we are building houses and homes in Paradise, or palaces in Paradise, or this or that: don't be doubting.

O Believers! Avoid suspicion as much as possible, for suspicion in some cases is a sin.

(Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:12)

O believers, avoid doubting, because most of doubting is wrong! When you say “laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadan Rasoolullah” with belief, it takes you to Paradise, as Prophet (s) said, man qaala laa ilaaha illa-Llah dakhal il-Jannah, they enter Paradise. If you have doubts, never mind! Keep saying “laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadan Rasoolullah,” because many people have doubts about Islam or Muslims themselves don't believe, but if they say “laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammad Rasoolullah,” even if we are shaky Allah will forgive them, and we are asking forgiveness, because we are like that. May Allah forgive us and may Allah bless us!

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. As we said that always the mureeds of the shaykh love their shaykh, they love their guide and they try to show them the utmost love, and that’s why many mureeds of different tariqats for different shaykhs, they praise their shuyookh in a way that they feel is good. That is why we have to show our utmost love to our shaykh, Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim an-Naqshandi ash-Shaami ad-Dimashqi, this is how he used to write his name: “Khaadim al-Fuqaraa, Servant of the Impoverished, Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil an-Naqshbandi,” sometimes “al-Qubrusi” if he was in Cyprus, sometimes, “ash-Shaami ad-Dimashqi.” “Khaadim al-Fuqaraa,” that is what he calls himself, but our duty is to call him in a higher form of respect, because the Prophet (s) was told in Holy Qur'an:

قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُوحَى إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَا إِلَهُكُمْ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ فَمَن كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاء رَبِّهِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا

وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا

Qul innamaa anaa basharun mithlukum yoohaa ilayya.

Say, "I am but a man like yourselves, (but) revelation has come to me. (Surat al-Kahf, 18:110)

To show humbleness, Prophet (s) said, “I am only a human being like you, yoohaa ilayy, revealed to me,” and that’s why Muhammad al-Busayri (q) said:

محمد بشر وليس كالبشر بل هو ياقوتة والناس كالحجر

Muhammad basharun wa laysa ka ’l-bashari

bal huwa yaaqootatun wa’ n-naasu ka ’l-hajari,

Muhammad is a human being, but not a human being like us,

Nay Muhammad is a gem and mankind are like stones

Which means he is completely different, he is subtle human being, he is the one who went for Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa without any vehicle. Bal huwa yaaqootatun, when he reached a place that Jibreel (a) said, “I cannot go,” Buraaq took him and went forward? Buraaq took him and went forward? Is Buraaq higher than Jibreel (a)? If Jibreel was not able to go, of course Buraaq could not go, so Prophet (s) went by himself. That is the greatness of Prophet (s): he didn’t need the Buraaq. Our beliefs are like that.

So awliyaullah are named by others, not by themselves, because they are humble, that is why some nine years or ten years ago, the followers of Mawlana began to call him Sultan al-Awliya, Sultan al-Awliya, out of love. The shaykh did not say about himself, “I am Sultan al-Awliya,” the mureeds said their shaykh is Sultan al-Awliya.

So for that reason, like after Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r), the tariqah went from Sayyidina Abu Bakr (r) then to Sayyidina Qasim (q), and then to Ja`far as-Sadiq (q), and it was called in that era...the mureeds called it this, not Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r), called at-Tariqah Siddiqiyyah, because it was called after Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r), from that time up to Sayyidina Aba Yazid al-Bastami (q) and it was called Tayfouriyya, after Aba Yazid’s name, then it was called after Khawaja 'Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q): Ghujdawaniyya. Then it was called Naqshbaniyya from the time of Shah Naqshband (q) until the time of Ahmad al-Faruqi Mujaddid Alf-ath-Thani, after which it was called Naqshbandiyya-Mujaddidiyya. At the time of Khalid al-Baghdadi (q), it became known as the Naqshbandiyya-Khalidiyya, and from the time the tariqah moved to Daghestan, up to the time of Shaykh `Abdullah al-Fa’iz ad-Daghestani (q), it was known as the Naqshbandiyya- Daghestaniyya. So why we have to call it Naqshbandiyya-Haqqaniyya? Out of respect, but we have to go to a higher level, because now there are too many issues around the name, “Haqqaniyya.” Why do we have to keep that title that is used by many black-listed people in Pakistan and the Sub-continent? So it is better to call the tariqah after his name directly. That is why we said, “Naqshbandiyya-Nazimiyya,” to keep the honor and the name of the shaykh.

If we were not showing respect and higher level of titles to our shaykh, because it is mentioned in hadith:

عند ذكل الصالحين تنزل الرحمة

`inda dhikr as-saaliheen tanzilu ’r-rahmat,

When you mention the name of pious people, Allah sends His Mercy on you.

So why we have to mention a clan, a tribe in the Sub-continent, when we have to better mention the name of our shaykh, because when you mention his name rahmat comes down, is it not? So that’s why, from now on up to the time Mahdi (a) comes down, inshaa-Allah, that tariqah will be named after the one who spread it East and West, he spread Islam to non-Muslims, he brought thousands and thousand of converts through the tariqah Naqshbandiyya-Nazimiyya, and it’s better to call after his name as at least we will get barakah of that rahmah that descends on the people when they mention a pious person’s name.

May Allah, yaa Sayyidee Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim, may Allah bless you more and more! (Amin!) And give you more and more! (Amin!) And we like to be always with you dunya and Akhirah and with Grandshaykh `AbdAllah Fa’iz ad-Daghestani (q), and to be all under in your arms, no hatred; to take hatred away from our hearts, to take anger from our hearts and to take jealousy from our hearts, to take doubts away from our hearts, to make everyone not to speak on the back of the other, to take backbiting away, to take away nameemah away and to take fitna away!

Yaa ayyuha alladheena aamanoo in jaakum faasiqun bi-nabain fatabayyanoo an tuseeboo qawman bi-jahaalatin fatusbihoo `alaa maa fa`altum naadimeen

O ye who believe! If a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm people unwittingly, and afterwards become full of repentance for what ye have done. (Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:6)

O believers, believers of Mawlana, believers in Prophet (s), believers in Islam, believers in awliyaullah:

أَلا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاء اللّهِ لاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Alaa inna awliyaaullaahi laa khawfun `alayhim wa laa hum yahzanoon.

Behold! Verily on the Friends of Allah there is no fear, nor shall they grieve. (Surah Yunus, 10:62)

Believers about awliyaullah, there are too many corrupted people who show you the face of a lamb, but behind they have the face of tigers, munaafiqoon, they are trying to throw false rumors to bring people down and to sit on the chair that will take them to Hellfire! You are sitting on a chair that will take you to Hellfire if you keep backbiting and making bad rumors! We are all coming from one father through spirituality, which is Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah grant him long life, and we ask Allah for the barakah of Prophet (s) and the sake of Prophet (s) and sake of awliyaullah, to keep us on the right way, everyone of us. Wa min Allahi ‘t-tawfeeq. And inshaa-Allah we call it Naqshbandiyya- Nazimiyya in order for it to be known that it is connected and it is spread by Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil, always he writes his name “Shaykh Khaadim al-Fuqaraa Muhammad Nazim Adil an-Naqshbandi ash-Shaami ad-Dimashqi.”

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuuh. Bi hurmatil Fatihah.
