Maghrib Suhbah
A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.
أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ الرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِي الأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ
Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.
Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)
Someone might ask why Grandshaykh (q) always used to say, “At the beginning of every advice (suhbah), remember to say ‘Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.’” It means the body is the advice, but the head is the ayah ‘atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum,’ because the whole world, the whole universe and the whole Heavens is built on itaa`at, obedience. There is not but one to obey the other: children obey parents, who as adults obey what Allah (swt) has commanded and ordered them to do.
SubhaanAllah, whenever we read Holy Qur’an we have to know that we are being dressed with whatever we are reading. No matter what your reason, Allah dresses you with the tajalli of that ayah at that moment, because from moment to moment the tajalli changes. Whenever you have free time, try to read Holy Qur’an, because as you are reading you are getting more and more beautiful manifestations of Allah's (swt) Beauty!
When you say, atee`oollah, “obey Allah,” the opposite of it is disobedience, ma`siyya, `adamu ’l-ita`ah. When you say, “Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum,” who are you saying it to, others or first to yourself? As soon as you say “atee`oollah,” you are telling your desires, “I am not listening to you, but to Allah (swt).” Allah will dress you with complete forgiveness and every time you read it in the beginning of an advice, Allah (swt) will dress with you a different dress to fit that moment and the people who are listening. Angels will encompass you when you are in a circle of dhikr, halaqat adh-dhikr, up to the Heavens and all will make istighfaar on your behalf!
The normal, not the secret meaning of the Holy Qur’an is built on what? On itaa`at. Is there anything else? Allah (swt) is telling us, “Either obey Me or obey My enemy, Iblees,” who is the enemy of Allah and of people. So when we read Holy Qur’an and pass through that ayah, it is the head. Look at everyone here, as we mentioned previously, we all have the same body and if you took the head out, everyone would look the same. Would anyone differ? No, not at all. So everyone would change just by putting the head each one different from the other, unless they are identical twins. What makes you different? Grandshaykh (q) said, “The head of every suhbah is ‘atee`oollah,’ as it makes you differ from one another depending on the reality of your obedience: are you going to obey or are you going to argue, as some people frequently do? They argue because their desires cannot accept any advice from others as the desire wants to defend everything, even though it may be wrong. Your ego says, “No, no, no you do not understand! I am doing this correctly! You are arguing with me because you hate me and think I am wrong.” All of us are like that. So association with a group takes that heaviness away from us and makes us light, because Allah (swt) said:
يد الله على الجماعة
Yadul-Llaahi `ala ‘l-jama`ah.
Allah's Hand is over the group. (at-Tabarani)
This means Allah’s love and care for us is when we are sitting in a gathering remembering Him, despite what we are doing bad that still makes Him love us. What did Sayyidina `Ali (r) say to Sahaabah (r)? He said, “The entire Holy Qur’an is built on one point and that one point is makhaafatullah,” to know that Allah (swt) is watching you at any moment and you feel worried to do something wrong so as not to make Him unhappy.
Does Allah (swt) smile, is Allah sometimes unhappy? Yes, because He may be unhappy from His servant. “I gave you everything and you are not obeying Me.” How many times are we reciting Kalimat at-Tawheed, “laa ilaaha illa-Llah” every day? Some days we recite and some days we don’t. The best words for Allah (swt) is to recite, “laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah.”
So we must know that the subhah is based on obedience, just like today a mureed mashaa-Allah passed a test when usually he is always failing. Why not smile for him? We hope that all of us pass tests. Mashaa-Allah I am seeing more women and children here and they are going to be our assets, but they need to study and learn, not just come on Thursdays and Saturdays. `Ali will teach them qasidah and Sahib will teach them Qur’an, inshaa-Allah.
As I said before, inshaa-Allah Mawlana gave Taher Siddiqui lots of love and respect, and he has been granted the permission to give suhbah along with Sahib and `Ali. Inshaa-Allah they are going to make subhah in order to build the people up. So in my absence, every Thursday and Saturday Taher will give lessons on `aqeedah. He knows how drive for one hour and give a lesson on `aqeedah somewhere else, but we here are all in need of that. Every Thursday and Saturday he will prepare lessons on `aqeedah in order for everyone to learn our belief. May Allah bless us and forgive us.
