(...) Intercession of Prophet (s). Extend your love more and more to Prophet (s), as he is the Sultan. So Allah (swt) said in the Holy Qur’an:

يَا مَعْشَرَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنسِ إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتُمْ أَن تَنفُذُوا مِنْ أَقْطَارِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ فَانفُذُوا لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلْطَانٍ

Yaa ma`ashar al-jinni wa’l-insi in in istata`tum an tanfudhoo min aqtaari’s-samawaati w ’al-ardi fa ’nfudhoo laa tanfudhoona illa bi-sultaan.

O you assembly of jinns and men! If you can pass beyond the zones of the Heavens and the Earth, pass! Not without authority shall you be able to pass! (Surat ar-Rahmaan, 55:33)

In Arabic “sultan” means “the one who owns everything,” which is Prophet (s). So first is through Prophet (s), second is through his Shari`ah, third is through awliyaullah and fourth is through Mahdi (a). Anyone of them can take you to a certain level and Prophet (s) can take you to the highest level. Inshaa-Allah may Allah (swt) give us a Sultan, and to find a Sultan in these days is difficult. Not those who call themselves ‘sultan,’ but a real Sultan. I heard from Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, (that the station of) Sultan is to reach the Level of Annihilation. When you reach the Level of Annihilation, you are truly experiencing:

أَنَا جَلِيْسُ مَنْ ذَكَرَنِي

Anaa jaleesu man dhakaranee.

I sit with him who remembers me. (Ahmad, Bayhaqi)

So your Sultan is ‘beside you,’ if you can say that, meaning Allah (swt) will be dressing you from the Power of Prophet (s) that you will be able to reach “baqaa,” and baqaa is the Sultan. So baqaa comes after annihilation; Fanaa’un fillah, then comes Baqaa’un fillah. After you burn, annihilate yourself completely to Allah (swt), at that time Allah will dress you with baqaa, “ever-living.” When you are dressed with that, you are then called “Sultan al-Awliya.” That is the Sultan that can take you there.

That is why awliyaullah know that their followers are unable to do that. So do they have that? You may have seen the bristles on a hair brush. When you brush a lot of hair collects on the bristles, even more than the bristles themselves. So awliyaullah are the bristles and Prophet (s) is holding them together. When you use them, brush their love and perfume on you, you see (many strands of) hair. The mureeds will be connected to the bristles and the bristles will be connected to the handle of the brush that holds the brush, and the brush is Prophet (s). Awliyaullah know that we cannot do anything, so they say, “Okay, brush them!” and with one stroke they pull all of us! So they are brushing us every day, brushing us just like a person who cannot brush their hair, they need someone to brush their hair for them. Awliyaullah brush for you and connect you to Prophet (s) and Prophet (s) connects you to the Divine Presence. May Allah forgive us and make us from these people.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
