The Miracles of Umm Hiram, Hala Sultan

Sultan al-Awliya

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani

28 December 2011 Lefke, Cyprus

The Russian czars were so generous. They have a good quality, perhaps the best quality. Our sultan’s have a good quality but they are strange. Peter the Great’s wife, Saint Catherina of Siena, was very famous and she was the mother of so many czars. I think she came to Cyprus when he was passing to Palestine and her maqaam is in Larnaca.

My grandfather visited the holy tomb of Hala Sultan (r) for forty years. When he walked from Cyprus to Acraa, Lebanon, he passed through Larnaca and then went on to Mecca. He walked, as at that time there were no cars, trains or planes, and people used camels to carry their baggage and also for riding. But my grandfather never rode camels, he walked. He did this four times, going to Mecca and returning on foot.

I found the history of how that stone came to the Hala Sultan tomb in an old, handwritten book in a zawiya library. She came from Hijaz and reached Saida, a port in South Lebanon, and a nun welcomed her to her monastery and showed her the garden. She saw there three large stones that even a crane could not carry, not even today.

She asked the nun, “I like them, can you sell them to me?”

The nun said, “O! It is my gift to you; take it,” although she knew that nothing could move these three stones. The nun was a Christan, but doubted the power of Heavens to carry the whole world up!

Hala Sultan (r) said, “Thank you. It is an amaanah; keep it and when I am in need I shall carry them.”

Subhaan-Allah! She came to Larnaca and they reached the lake that before was a vineyard full of grapes. Hala Sultan asked the owner, “Please give me one bunch of grapes.” This is according to our traditions.

The owner said, “I can’t.”

She said, “I will pay you,” because she was thirsty.

The owner said, “No, I will not give.”

Then Hala Sultan (r) took a pin from her headscarf, threw it down, and said, “May this garden become like a thorn, with nothing growing in it! May it turn into a place of salt and ice!

Subhaan-Allah, from that time up to today it is a lake of salt and you can’t find such tasteful salt anywhere else! Along the way, her mule jumped because it saw a snake, and she fell and broke her neck and she became a shaheed (martyr), fatally injured. She stuck her stick in the ground near a carob tree, and subhaan-Allah, until today that tree is living and still yields fruit after hundreds of years. When she fell and broke her neck, the same night people saw those three rocks by qudratullah, Allah’s Mighty Power, crossing the sea; one of them came on her head side, the second one on her feet side and the third one hung above her in the air without support. It is in the same position up to today. So many people were shocked when they saw that so they hung a curtain over her maqaam, yet the rock is suspended there and is perhaps 15 tonnes in weight. (...) Always a good smell comes from there.

My grandfather was at her service at her maqaam, every time opening after midnight. close to dawn. There is a minbar (pulpit) inside where she had two green flags opposite each other on both sides and next to it is a window that faces her maqaam. Whenever he opened it, he saw Hala Sultan sitting on the minbar between the two flags, then she would stand and re-enter her maqaam through the window. My grandfather observed this and narrated it to us. May Allah (swt) be pleased with her. No one knows such things. I am an old-timer, and therefore I know such stories.

When I was young I went there with my father every `Eid and there was a shaykh there for `Eid. On the third day His Excellency, the Governor came and many people visited Hala Sultan. His Excellency made a feast, and my father observed that feast through the office. He took me because I was the youngest, and I kissed the shaykh’s hand and he gave me one piastar for `Eid. From there I bowed and went to her maqaam. People were feasting and some slaughtered big sheep. I was very happy! When I grew up, I returned many times and always found that shaykh making the same wazifa for her maqaam. He was a good servant and he always made me the imaam to lead the prayer. Subhaan-Allah, he passed away. Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadan rasoolullah.

Thank you His Excellency, Mr. President (distinguished guest from Russia) for giving honor to our place. He is wasting his precious time to visit me and it is an honor that he ate something and heard from me. May Allah Almighty give His Excellency much more power. Seven big nations are coming into Islam when Jesus Christ will descend, correcting their wrong beliefs, changing them, and inshaa-Allah they will become Muslims. Seven big nations will come to Islam, and first Russia, and they are people of Ham (son of Prophet Noah) who were powerful on horses, and without wings your horses will fly! May Allah (swt) grant it to you.

The movement is beginning and it is a preparation for welcoming Jesus Christ back to Earth. He will wear a turban on his head, and although he never used a sword, he will return with a sword. Inshaa-Allah you will see all of this and I like to be there, too!

Fatihah.
