`Eid al-Fitr Khutbah

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

30 August 2011 Burton, Michigan

As-Siddiq Mosque

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, laa ilaaha illa-Llah! Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Muhammad Rasoolullah. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Alhamdulillah al-ladhee hadaanaa li ’l-Islaami wa ’l-imaani wa maa kaana li-nahtadee law laa an hadaana-Allah.

O Muslims, Believers! Allah (swt) has granted us Islam and honored us to be from Ummat an-Nabi:

كُنتُمْ خَيْرَ أُمَّةٍ أُخْرِجَتْ لِلنَّاسِ

kuntum khayra ummatin ukhrijat li’n-naas

You are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, (Aali `Imraan, 3:110)

You are the best ummah and you will be the best ummah that Allah has sent to humanity, calling to good and forbidding bad. So our duty is to call to good and forbid what is wrong.

وَقُلْ جَاء الْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ الْبَاطِلُ

qul jaa al-haqq wa zahaq al-baatil.

Say, “Truth has come and falsehood has perished.” (Surat al-Isra, 17:81)

Truth came with Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and falsehood left; they stopped worshipping idols/statues. However, still we are making partnership to Allah (swt) by making partnership to our egos. We all have a defect, thinking we are the best, that our ego is best, and we cannot accept advice. We do not accept advice of Allah (swt) but we accept advice of Shaytan!

People are not realizing that Akhirah is coming and dunya is ending; we are going to die and the grave will inherit us! We are not teaching our children that this dunya is ending and we cannot live forever. Allah (swt) wants you to know in this life there is no “forever,” and that dunya doesn’t want you in the grave because of the dirtiness of our egos! Allah gave us Ramadan to be honored and purified of all kinds of sins and difficulties. tooba liman saama Ramadan, “Good tidings to the one who fasted Ramadan,” as Ramadan eats sins.

There is a fish that eats everything and is never satisfied: the piranha. Our ego is like that; it wants to eat everything and not stop, so Allah (swt) gave us fasting to polish the ego. There is no other way to polish it except through fasting and prayer.

If you want to be in the Divine Presence, make wudu and pray two raka`ats, then you are in their presence. In the five daily prayers you are in the Presence of Allah (swt). How do you want to present yourself? You must make wudu to come clean. Ramadan does not require you to have ablution but prayer does,. because Ramadan is worship to polish the ego and it works on you, but prayers take you to Allah's Presence! There, you have to wear the best clothes. On a job, loan, or scholarship interview, you present yourself perfectly to the interviewer. Similarly, when you need problems solved, quickly make wudu, pray two raka`ats and ask Allah (swt) to give you what you need!

In the book Nuzhat al-Majalis, ibn Mas`ud (r) related the hadith that not one believer who goes out to see the new moon of Ramadan and then praises Allah and recites Surat al-Fatihah seven times will ever experience a problem with his eyes. The crescent of Ramadan has a positive effect on our eyes; Allah sends the light of that moon which purifies the eyes and difficulties.

That is why Allah (swt) said:

الصيام لي وأنا أجزي به

as-sawmu lee wa anaa ajzee bih.

"Fasting is for Me, and I give the reward for it." (Bukhari)

Also, the Prophet (s) said, whoever attends a gathering of dhikrullah, for every step he takes toward that place, Allah will reward him as if he worshipped one year!

O Muslims! Do you need that or not? Yes, because we are committing sins! Allah is rewarding us on a golden plate as if we worshipped for one year, to be with Sayyidina Muhammad (s) under Allah's Throne! Also, whoever keeps the fast of Ramadan and prays fard and voluntary prayers, Allah will fill him with endless cities of light! He is “The Light,” an-Nur.

Anas ibn Malik (r) related that the Prophet (s) said:

The one that helps his brother or sister solve his or her problem, Allah (swt) will remove seventy of his sins and replace them with seventy good deeds until he comes back to his place.

Allah has created a group of Creation, angels that run to help people in their difficulties so that Allah will save them from their problems. That is a story about a Zoroastrian, as mentioned in Nuzhat al-Majalis, who found his son eating in public during Ramadan in front many Muslims, and he beat him to discipline him. Nowadays the say not to beat so we do not as we, “Obey Allah, obey the Prophet (s) and obey those in authority.” But if you do not discipline, don’t complain if the child will go wild as you gave allowed him access to Facebook, YouTtube, and in so doing you allowed him to go wild. You cannot allow that, especially for young children. That is how they spoiled the Muslim community! Today even a 4-year-old child plays games on the computer. If you allow that, don’t complain that your children are lost: you made them to be lost by giving them something to mislead them! You didn’t take them to the mosque to learn about Islam, so now they want to destroy you and our Islamic culture!

They say "don’t beat,” and so we do not, but there must be discipline to frighten our children from doing wrong things. One father found his children on Facebook and he broke all the computers in the house to make sure they don’t do it again. Now those kids are saving their money to buy computers, but they know there will be consequences and they will be punished if they go on Facebook!

That Zoroastrian saw his son eating in Ramadan and he beat him, saying, “Why didn't you keep the respect for Muslims in Ramadan, eating in front of them when they are fasting?” Do you think Allah will not guide him when he respected Muslims? Today people are not respecting Muslims. I heard today a news report about seven people who were killed when they left a mosque in Norway or Sweden; I don't know why.

That Zoroastrian died a month later, and the imam of the village saw him in a dream and he was in Paradise. The imam asked him, “Weren’t you Zoroastrian (a fire worshipper)? How did you end up in Paradise?"

He said, “Yes, I was, but when death approached me, as I exhaled my final seven breaths, because I had prohibited my son from eating in front of fasting Muslims during Ramadan, Allah (swt) was generous with me and made me to recite Kalimat ash-Shahadah when my soul was going out of my body! Because I respected Ramadan, Allah saved me.”

It is our duty to always respect Ramadan: to look for its approach, to fast as soon as you can, and to anticipate its huge benefits! Ramadan is so important in Muslim life. If you don’t fast one day without a valid excuse, you must fast sixty consecutive days to atone for that. Also, you are responsible to tell people about the importance of Ramadan. If you are sick or cannot fast for a valid reason, as is permitted in Islam, then you must feed sixty poor people. What then if you missed fasting all of Ramadan?

Allah (swt) said, “I am offering you Paradise without giving any account,” and you are saying, "bye bye," as if rejecting Allah's generosity! Allah doesn't like that!

The word “Ramadan” is comprised of five Arabic letters: “ra” is related to Allah's happiness with those in the Divine Presence; “meem” represents forgiveness for those who sinned during that year and for sake of Ramadan they were forgiven; “daad” represents damaan, Allah's insurance for obedient people that they will go to Paradise; “alif” represents ulfatullah lil-mutawakileen, “Whoever depends on Allah will get whatever he wants:’ and the last letter, “nun,” represents aman, the guarantee of safety.

The Prophet (s) said:

ورمضان أمان لأمته

Safety for the Ummah is Ramadan.

Ramadan will burn sins with the heat it produces against sins. May Allah (swt) forgive us and permit us to see more and more Ramadans in our life, hundreds and thousands of Ramadans for ummat an-Nabi (s)! fa ya fawzan lil-mustghfireen istaghfirullah. (Du`a)

On the minbar of Rasoolullah (s) we are renewing our bay`a to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani, may Allah grant him long life, and to Sayyidina al-Mahdi (a) and to Sayyidina Muhammad (s), by raising our hand and saying, ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasooluh. inna alladheen yub`ayoonaka inama yuba`yoona Allah. radina billahi rabban. Allahu, Allahu, Allahu Haqq!

(Ihda)

Fatihah.
