The Prophet (s) Made 'Laa Ilaaha illa-Llah' to be Known!

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

11 February 2011 Burton, Michigan

Jumu`ah Khutbah at As-Siddiq Mosque

As-salaamu `alaykum.

O Muslims, Believers! Alhamdulillah that we are in the month of Prophet (s), Rabi` al-Awwal. He was born on 12 Rabi` al-Awwal, which coincides with Monday or Tuesday, which is Sunday evening or Monday evening depending on the country and when they celebrate, but the most important thing is Allah (swt), with His endless mercy, sent Prophet (s):

وَرَحْمَتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ

wa rahmatee wasi`at kulla shay.

My Mercy encompasses everything. (al-A`araaf, 7:156)

Allah wants that mercy to be between human beings and He wants to give blessings to human beings. What is more of a blessing than Sayyidina Muhammad (s) as a messenger for humanity? He is a messenger for everyone and by him Allah (swt) gave birth to Islam. That is why the scholars of the ummah say the beginning of Islam is when the Prophet (s) was born, because Allah dressed him since he was child. According to many narrations and according to Sayyidina Muhammad (s), He sent Sayyidina Jibreel (a) to open his heart and take out that clot. In the heart of every human being there is small black clot where Shaytan can enter. Jibreel opened Prophet's (s) chest by Allah's order and took out that place of Shaytan. So since birth, Prophet (s) was being dressed by Heavenly dressing.

Everywhere around the world, you look at every country saying, "Irhaal, irhaal. Go away, go away!" to someone who has been thirty years in the presidency. People don't like tyranny, oppression, or hegemony, but people like to be free to practice their religion, and that (the government) not dictate what the imaam has to say so that everyone is going to be the same. You know Allah (swt) punished that one and he left the country today, because they interfered in every issue of Islam. (In Muslim countries) why do we have mosques everywhere? In order to call the adhan and to raise up the name of Prophet (s)! Prophet said:

The tallest neck on the Day of Judgment is the neck of the one who calls the adhan. (Bukhari)

Yahya narrated it on the authority of his uncle, who had sat in the company of Mu'awiya bin Abu Sufyan when they called (Muslims) to prayer. Mu`awiya said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say, "The muezzins will have the longest necks on the Day of Resurrection." Not the imaam; the imaam carries the burden, so run away (from that role). But those who are giving adhan, and who are clean. So Allah likes His Name to be raised up in every mosque and there has to be a person who calls people to prayer, to remind them about prayer. The first country that prohibited that was Egypt two or three years ago, and Turkey followed that example, and maybe Pakistan also. In all the masaajid they have no more muezzins. There is a cable that connects all the masaajid and they play a pre-recorded adhan. You've heard that. Allah (swt) does not like that, He likes His Name to be called by a person.

In past days, in Madinah and Mecca, they used to go on every minaret of Haram Sharif, so for four different places there were four different muezzins. The first would say, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar," then the second would continue, then the third, and the fourth, until the adhan was finished. Allah likes that. Another example: today they say, "We need halal meat." What is that? "We are very fussy about eating halal." But what is happening? I went to a slaughter house in this area where they have a tape recorder, and they hang the animal by the feet and cut the neck, while the recording recites, "Bismillah, Allahu Akbar" (which is required at time of halal) to save from paying one employee fifty dollars! So how is it halal? Everything has a question mark now.

So Allah doesn't like tyranny; this is tyranny and oppression. In order to save the Muslims, what did Allah (swt) do? He dressed Prophet (s) with rahmah, as He said in Holy Qur'an:

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ

Wa maa arsalnaaka illa rahmatan lil-`alameen.

We sent thee not but as a Mercy for all creatures. (al-Anbiyaa, 21:107)

What does that mean? It is very simple. We don't want to go too deep into this narration; we will take it from the top. Prophet (s) said in an authentic hadith narrated by Abu Hurayrah (r):

Allah's Apostle said, "For every Prophet there is one invocation which is definitely fulfilled by Allah, and I wish, if Allah will, to keep My invocation to be the intercession for my followers on the Day of Resurrection." (Sahih Bukhari, 9:93:566)

It is an authentic hadith, "My intercession, on the Day of Judgment, that Allah (swt) gave me that power."

مَن ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِهِ

man dha lladhee yashfa`u `indahu illaa bi-idhni.

Who is there that could intercede with Him unless it be by His leave? (al-Baqara, 2:255)

When Allah (swt) gives that power to Prophet (s) to intercede for his ummah, Allah is giving it! You cannot say it is shirk! No! Allah is giving it, and He mentioned it, and Prophet (s) mentioned it, saying, "My intercession that Allah gives me on the Day of Judgment is for my ummah." Allah knows we are tyrants to ourselves. Like many tyrants in the political arena, we are also tyrants in our own bodies, in our own lives. So to save us, Allah (swt) sent Sayyidina Muhammad (s) as His Last Messenger, the Seal of Messengers, giving shafa`ah to his ummah, because he knows his ummah is not up to the level of the Sahaabah (r). No one can reach that level, that Allah will send them to Paradise with no account, and no judgment for them. We are going to be judged.

When you go to the court you get a lawyer. For something wrong in dunya, you say, "I need a lawyer." What do you think about Akhirah, where we all will come with those 99 records? Shaykh `Abd al-Wahhab al-Sha’rani, one of the big scholars in Egypt 600 years ago, said, "On the Day of Judgment Allah (swt) will call someone from the worst ones, who committed a lot of sins in his life. He will be from ummat un-Nabi, a Muslim, with 99 records, each one bigger than the distance from east to west, full of what he had done in his life. They are put on one side of the balance, and the balance goes down. It will be decreed, 'O, Hellfire. Punishment!' At that moment, one angel will come with a record, written on it, laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah."

Prophet (s) said:

من قال لا اله الا الله دخل الجنة

Man qaala laa ilaaha illa-Llah dakhal al-Jannah.

Whoever says, "Laa ilaaha illa-Llah" enters Paradise.

Every Muslim says, "Laa ilaaha illa-Llah." Everyone who says, "I am Muslim," inside of him is, "laa ilaaha illa-Llah." So a letter comes with "laa ilaaha illa-Llah" written on it, and it is put on the other side of the scale. It is hasanaat (good deeds) and outweighs all the sins, then Allah (swt) sends him to Paradise.

Allah (swt) loves those who say, "laa ilaaha illa-Llah." Allah loves Muslims who believe in Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! Believe in his message, believe in him as the Seal of Messengers, believe in Islam, believe in imaan! Those who try to build themselves to be perfect people, of Maqaam al-`Ihsaan, the Station of Moral Excellence, someone (Prophet) will come to give them shafa`ah, as Allah said, to intercede for his ummah. This is his month, the month when he was born. This means Islam was born with him, shafa`ah was born with him, the message was born with him, and "laa ilaaha illa-Llah" was made known through him! Prophet brought it and he taught us. He taught the Sahaabah to say, "laa ilaaha illa-Llah" and to leave idol worship.

Let us leave the idol worship which is in our hearts, always gossiping, telling us to do this and that. That idol worship is Shaytan! May Allah (swt) take that away from us and guide us to the right way. Ameen.

(End of first part of khutbah)

(Second part of khutbah)

During Jumu`ah, no one has the right to have beads in his hand, and no one has the right to stand up. No one has the right to do anything, except for those who are typing the suhbah, which is something different, but everyone else must focus on the suhbah. Anyone who does something which Prophet (s) prohibited, he will lose his Jumu`ah; you cannot do that, it is finished. The khutbah is considered as two raka`at of prayer; there are two raka`at of Jumu`ah, so there are four raka`at. And no one has the right to speak with his son, daughter, or anyone, or to use beads in his hand (during the khutbah), no way. You have to know this. I said this many times before and we are speaking about this another time.
