The Greatness of Laa Ilaaha Illa-Llah

Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

4 March 2016 Burton, Michigan

Jumu`ah Khutbah at As-Siddiq Institute & Mosque (ASIM)

O Believers, Muslims! Alhamdulillah, Allah (swt) gave us another Friday to be together and to sit and listen to each other. Allah created us and He gave us a contract to sign on the Day of Promises:

أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ قَالُوا بَلَىٰ

[Allah asked] “Am I not your Lord?” They said, “Yes!” (Surat al-Araaf, 7:172)

On that day, Allah asked us, “Am I not you Lord?” and we said, “Yes!” We came to dunya, and Allah knows best that in dunya is a test: who will follow and does not breach his contract will be saved, and who breaches his contract will not be saved. In order to save us Allah gave us hints and these hints are very valuable. Allah didn't create Creation to punish them. Allah's Mercy is everywhere. He provided for the Muslims and non-Muslims. We cannot judge, but we say:

فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ. وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ

And so, he who shall have done an atom's weight of good, shall behold it; and he who shall have done an atom's weight of evil, shall behold it. Sura Az-Zalzalah, 99:7-8)

Allah wants to save us.

كلمتان خفيفتان على اللسان ثقيلتان فى الميزان حبيبتان إلى الرحمن سبحان الله و بحمده سبحان الله العظيم

There are two words that are very easy to say, yet very heavy on the Scale, most beloved to The Merciful, “SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

“Kalimataan, if you mention two words, you will get My forgiveness; they are very light on the tongue, but heavy on the Scale and will make your sins disappear.” So recite them! Whatever Jibreel (a) gave to Prophet (s), he gave to the Ummah, so he (s) said, “These words are very light on the tongue but heavy on the Scale, SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem.”

It is said about the Day of Judgement, when everyone will tremble in fear:

لِّمَنِ الْمُلْكُ الْيَوْمَ ۖ لِلَّـهِ الْوَاحِدِ الْقَهَّارِ

To whom is the Kingdom this Day? To Allah, The Unique, The Irresistible. (Surat Ghafir, 40:16)

So we own nothing, everything is owned by Allah and on that Day everyone will tremble, but Allah wants to save us, so say “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah”! If you say it you will enter Paradise, but where is it? On the Day of Judgment, a servant will not see the ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ he said in dunya, so he will tremble! Allah loves that word, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah, there is no Creator but Allah,” as it is Tawheed, and who made the best Tawheed? Sayyidina Muhammad (s) made it in Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa, and yet he will also tremble, and when Sayyidina Israfil (a) blows the Trumpet and everyone rises from the dead, Sayyidina Muhammad (s) will go into sajda relieve the Ummah.

Allah (swt) likes sajda, so when you finish your prayer make sajda, and before you go to sleep make sajda, but we forget.

On the Day of Judgement, the `abd will look for his ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah,’ but when he doesn’t find it he will shake in fear and say, “Yaa Rabbee! I don’t see it. Where is my ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ that I said in dunya to save me in Akhirah?” It is our ticket to Paradise! That's why it is important not to listen to and obey our ego, but to listen to and obey Allah; otherwise, our ego will take us to bad states, bad thoughts and illnesses such as Bipolar Disorder, which is something within that you need to take out: don't listen to the negative whispers.

Allah (swt) will say, “The Scale and neither Heavens nor Earth can contain that Laa ilaaha illa-Llah, but Laa ilaaha illa-Llah can contain the Scale.” The evidence is in what Prophet (s) said, because, SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem already contains the Meezaan, Heavenly Scale, so there is no place for Laa ilaaha illa-Llah to come, it's already filled! When you say, “SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem,” it fills between Heavens and Earth and will intercede for you wherever you turn your face, and when the Scale fills with it, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah will come, contain you and you will enter Paradise, because it is pure Light.

Prophet (s) said, “Anyone, who says ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ sincerely from his heart even once[1], all Heavens will open for them until they reach the `Arsh and make sajda there.” So say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah”! What a great reward for Muslims! Be happy with your iman, faith!

It is mentioned that Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “Yaa Rabbee, teach me a special way to mention and remember You,” Allah said, “Remember me by saying, ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’.” Of course, Sayyidina Musa (a) is a prophet and he says ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’, but this confirms what is best for the Ummah.

Allah (swt) said, “Yaa Musa, if I put Heavens and Earth on one side of the Scale and on the other side I put the ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ you said, it will be heavier.”

O Muslims! Don't look for much: say your prayers, say “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah” when you are free and Allah (swt) will forgive you! He told Musa (a), “I’m giving you something special from Me, The Creator!”

Prophet (s) said, “Anyone who says ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ sincerely from his heart, all the Doors of Paradise will open for him and he will reach `Arshullah and make sajda there.” If we say “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah” on this holy day, Friday, all the Doors of Heavens will open for us and we will reach `Arshullah. What do you want better than that? It's our way to Paradise. May Allah keep all our ways open.
