Jumu`ah Khutbah at Manor House

Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

[Opening du`a of khutbah.]

O Muslims, Believers around the world or here. We must always remember Who created us, we have to know that we are His servants and He is our Creator. Unfortunately, due to many reasons, we forget to remember Allah (swt) except in a situation of sickness or difficulties or any other kind of situation that we don’t like. At that time we remember Allah (swt). Still, it is good, but if we remember what He said:

فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُواْ لِي وَلاَ تَكْفُرُونِ

Remember Me, I will remember you. Give thanks to Me and do not be ungrateful towards Me. (Surat al-Baqarah, 2:152)

Idhkuroonee means it is an order, “O Muslims! O human beings! Mention Me, remember Me. If you remember Me, I remember you.” It is so easy: say “Allah”. What will Allah say? “Ya `abdee!” If we don't say “Allah” He won’t say “ya `abdee!’”

Madhaa tureed.. astajeebu lak, I will give you. You want dunya I will give. Allah gives dunya. He gives dunya. You want Akhirah, I give Akhirah. You want more, I give you more that you don’t know, but what My Prophet knows of `Uloom al- Awwaleen wa ’l-Akhireen, Knowledge of the Firsts and the Lasts, but ask by remembering Me. You are living in dunya that I created and I own it. If you want I will give. You want a shelter, I give it to you, I have many dunya s, not one dunya.Every human being is dunya by itself through his system. I am giving you that dunya and you are in yourself a whole Akhirah by yourself, also, but remember Me!

You write petitions for jobs. You write to important people to give you a business to say to the employer that look I have that name there. You have to do everything because of that name. If that name is not there he doesn’t care for that card. But because he has a name there the employer will give him that work. What do you think if you have name of Prophet (s). What about the One who made creation. If you remember Me I remember through whom you are coming to me.

If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come to you (OMuhammad) and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:64)

If they are oppressors they come to you ya Muhammad. Finished. F’astaghfarullah w ’astaghfara lahumu ’r-rasool. They come with your name and ask forgiveness. I forgive and I want you to forgive them also. You want dunya? Say the truth! Yes ya Rabbee. We want akhirah. Ok say after me as Allah (swt) says:

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Our Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire!" (Surat al-Baqara, 2:201)

Allah ordered us to say yes, ya Rabbee give us dunya and let us live happy. Rabbanaa atinaa fi ’d-dunyaa hasanatan. O Allah give us in dunya something nice and good and give us in hereafter hasanah a reward. Without we are doing anything extra O Allah, except our obligations Allah will give. Because when you mentioned His Name, what did He say? qul Allah.

Say "Allah," then leave them to plunge in vain discourse and trifling. (Surat al-An`am, 6:91)

Some say don’t remember Allah by His Ismullah al-`Azham, that it is not accepted. Here, Allah is saying in Quran “Say ‘Allah’ then leave them in their games playing.” Leave the rest. You know you said “Allah” so don’t expect from someone else. You do the job. Fadkuroonee adhkurkum. “Remember Me, I remember you. When I remember you, thank Me because when I mention you it is not like you mentioning Me. It is not the same. When I remember you, you need to thank Me because I made you to remember Me. It is not easy to remember Me, because of the rewards that I dress you, it is only for those who remember Allah.”

It is not possible for anyone to have that Light except those who are remembering Allah! If someone among this crowd comes outside and announces, “A very official person is coming, royalty,” calling that one, “Muhammad, come here!” Everyone will run to see who is that royalty being called. He might be the best one or he might be the worst one, but everyone will go out to see that royalty, giving honor to that person. What you think when you say “Allah” and Allah is calling you, remembering you? What great honor that person will be dressed by Allah honoring him, remembering him and mentioning his name!

O Muslims! Allah gave us a lot, but we are not paying attention. It is not that we are neglecting or not accepting, that is something else; Muslims are accepting, but they are forgetting to remember Allah (swt). So that is why we remember Him only when we are in difficulty or in sickness and problems, but Allah wants you to remember Him bi ’l-ghudoowi wa ’l-aasaal, as He said, “When you go and and when you come, in the morning and evening”, remember Him when you enter your home and when you sit with your family.

And He said, “Say, rabbana aatinaa fi ’d-dunya. O Allah! give us hasana in dunya.” What is the best that Allah will give a mu’min in dunya? A house, villa, car, bank, movie theater, a restaurant? No! On top of that will come, but when we are asking Allah ‘rabbana aatinaa fi ’d-dunya hasana’, hasana is something when you are poor, you ask someone to give something from his heart, from his nobility, something to make you happy.

What does Allah give to make His servant happy? There is only one issue that will make you happy. Allah will dress you from the love that He dressed His Beloved One, Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! That hasana is Muhammad (s)! He is the ultimate hasana; no one wants more than that, which will cover dunya and Akhirah!

That is why He said, w ’ashkuru lee, “when you remember Me I remember you and give you the best hasana. I give you Muhammad! I made My beloved to appear to you; to see you; to look at you and not to turn his face.”

Allah wants you to be happy because you are asking him in His own Words in Holy Qur’an. What Allah said in Holy Qur’an? What is better than Muhammad where He gave angels that hasana by saying:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him with a worthy salutation. (Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:56)

That is dhikrullah. That is part of `ibadah. Any part of `ibadah is a dhikrullah. In the prayer, when you say ashadu an la ilaha ill ‘Llah wa ashadu anna Muhammad rasoolullah. Be happy he gave to mumin to Muslims he made us Muslim. that is honor. that is why he said w ’ashkuru lee thank Me day and night. Shukran ya Rabbee. Shukran laka ya Rabbee. And he said more:

وَلَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ

If you thank Me, I will give you more. (Surah Ibraaheem, 14:7)

If you thank Me I give you more. If you are not happy enough with what I gave you I give you more. He gives you, then you thank Him he gives more til the end of dunya non-stop.

You thank you get Allah gave. If you thank Me I increase. What He increases? Increase how much food we can eat in a day. Or He increases His reward by thanking Him? You make sins, you know, everyone makes sins, but Allah (swt) will give you that something. Sins are something and rewards are something else.

Good deeds waive the sins. (Surah Hud, 11:114)

The hasanaat not only takes sins away like a whale it swallows the sins and nothing will be on you. Hasanat means the good things ‘rabbana aatinaa fi ’d-dunya hasana means the hasanaat will take take away sayiaat and Allah gave us Sayyidina Muhammad in order we come to his presence to ask forgiveness. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:64)

He asked Sahaba if they are oppressors to themselves they come to you ya Muhammad (s). It is not enough. f’astaghfarallah, they ask Allah’s forgiveness, and, w ’astaghfara lahumu ’r-rasool, the condition is that the Prophet (s) has to make istighfaar on their behalf. Your istighfaar is accepted but with very little reward. But if the Prophet (s) makes istighfar on your behalf, the Meezan cannot carry that salawaat. That scale cannot carry that istighfaar on your behalf reward. Then they will find Allah forgiving them and mercying them.

O Muslims! Allah said in Holy Qur’an:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ ذِكْرًا كَثِيرًا وَسَبِّحُوهُ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا

O you who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance and glorify Him early and late. (Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:41,42)

He didn’t say idhkurullah dhikran but He said, idhkurullah dhikran katheera “too much.” Why did He say “too much”? We can make it one time. Laa ilaaha illa-Llah. Yaa Allah! Yaa Rahmaan, through His Beautiful Names and Attributes. But He said katheeran because He loves us and He wants to always give us a cause that will dress us from His Beauty, with the tajalli and mercy, and this has been given to us free. He selected us from His Creation, “You come, you come, you come.” He made us Muslim! Is it because you are clever that you became Muslim? Allah chose you to be Muslim! That is enough to sit and remember Him katheeran. idhkurallah dhikran katheeran wa sabihuhoo bukratan wa aseela, glorify Him, not only through reciting Asmaa’Llah al-Husnaa, but glorify Him.

Glory be to He Who transported His servant by night from the Inviolable House of Worship (at Mecca) to the Remote House of Worship (at Jerusalem), the environs of which We had blessed so that We might show him some of Our symbols, for verily He Alone is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. (Surat al-Israa’, 17:1)

Who said subhan allaadhee asraa bi `abdihi? Because of that great and big immense event - al-Mir`aj Allah was praising to Himself by Himself, saying, “Praise be to Me!” It means “no one can praise Me as I praise Myself. I am praising Myself to show the immensity of the mir`aj of Prophet (s).”

That is a great event in this universe because no one can pass this universe without being burned from the heat and from the immense temperature. Do you know the temperature at the core of the sun? The core is 50 million degrees centigrade. If it’s warm out, we say, “Oh! it’s 75 degrees, we cannot take it!” If it is 80 we are burning and if it’s 100 degrees we are boiling. The Prophet (s) went passing this whole universe through this solar system and coming back passing by and coming back through all these high temperature regions. That is why He is glorifying Himself to Himself. “I am not waiting for you to glorify Me, because you cannot reach the way I brought My servant to My Presence!”

O Muslims, we won’t be long. Tonight’s lecture in the university will be from this. I brought it to remember that mercy is waiting for you and that hasanaat are waiting for you.

Run to Allah (from all that is false and evil)! (Surat adh-Dhaariyaat, 51:50)

He said, “Run to Allah!”

________________

And Allah (swt) also said:

وَلَا تَعْدُ عَيْنَاكَ عَنْهُمْ تُرِيدُ زِينَةَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَلَا تُطِعْ مَنْ أَغْفَلْنَا قَلْبَهُ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَاتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ وَكَانَ أَمْرُهُ فُرُطًا

And let not your eyes pass beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever (in) neglect. (Surat al-Kahf, 18:28)

Tureedu zeenata al-hayaati ’d-dunya, “Don’t turn your face from those who are sitting behind your Holy House, the People of the Bench, those who are sitting and praising and making salawaat.” Allah is saying, “Look at them, give them a glance.” If Prophet (s) gave us an eye, what do we need better than that? Sometimes if a president or minister is coming, they want an eye from him. Allah is saying to the Prophet (s), “Look at them.” Tureedu zeenat al-hayaati ’d-dunya, “Do you want the dunya or do you want the Akhirah?” You want Akhirah.

O Muslims, Believers! What Allah will reward through dhikrullah cannot be known from its greatness. One person came to Prophet (s) and said:

عن عبد الله بن بسر رضي الله عنه أن رجلا قال: يا رسول الله إن شرائع الإسلام قد كثرت علي فأخبرني بشيء أتشبث به؟ قال لا يزال لسانك رطبا من ذكر الله" الترمذي.

A man came to the Prophet (s) and said, "O Rasoolullah! The rules of Islam became heavy on me, so give me news of something which I can maintain." Prophet (s) said, "Make your tongue wet with dhikrullah." (Tirmidhi)

That Bedouin said, “The laws of Islam are becoming a very big load on me,” meaning, ‘do this’, ‘don’t do this’, etc., which as Muslims we have to follow. Allah likes us to follow ittib`a an-Nabi. He said, “Give me something easy on me.” The Prophet (s) said, “Keep your tongue wet with dhikrullah, Allah’s Remembrance.” That is it, that is equal to balance on the other side and will make the heavy load to feel easy. They will not make you to carry the heavy load. They will make you to feel it is an easy load and it might be a light load that might float from your hands due to its lightness.

We do `ibaadah today and we feel it is too much. Praying Fajr, praying Zhuhr, praying `Asr. We are lazy. Allah will make it easy when you wet your tongue with dhikrullah!

May Allah forgive us. Astaghfirullah.
