Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadan an-nabi al-ummiyy wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa sallam

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaada, nawaytu 's-salook, lillahi ta`ala al-`Azheem fee hadha 'l-masjid.

Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

Today is a new day and every day Allah (swt) manifests what He likes on His servant, and He inspires His Creation to follow His Will. Imagine, I was reading from Grandshaykh `AbdAllah's notes yesterday and he said, “Trust is very important in a human being's life. If you have a trust or you are assigned to be a trusted person, to sit as a trustee, is very important.” That is very difficult, because Allah (swt) says, “Render the trusts to their owners.”

Allah bids you to deliver all you have been entrusted with to those entitled, and whenever you judge between people to judge with justice. Verily, the most excellent is what Allah orders you, for Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing! (4:58)

Allah (swt) is The Best Owner and He trusted everyone with something; He granted the servant a Trust that the servant accepted, and the order is not just to return it, but to give it back as you received it from Allah. Allah gave a clean soul, clean body and clean nafs! Can someone claim to give it back clean as Allah gave it? [No.] So what to do then? He quoted a story.

There were two partners who ran a big warehouse filled with flour, taheen, and wheat. They were very trustworthy and loved each other very much, and made an Islamic partnership.

One day one partner said to the other, “O my brother, I love you and respect you, but that trust between us needs to end and I will take take my share you take your share.”

The other partner said, “Yaa Sayyidee! We lived all our lives together in Islam, calling people to Allah (swt) and filled our warehouse with provisions and gave them to poor people. Why do you want to cut that trust now?"

He said, “I cannot do it any longer, I came to a decision today to stop this trust.” The other partner begged him to tell him why, and he said, "In all these 35 years of partnership, I always saw ants carry the spilled wheat grains through the door of the warehouse and deposit it inside; they come from outside, pick up grains and put them inside. But yesterday, I saw ants taking wheat seed from inside to outside, which showed me there is something very wrong. Therefore, I don't trust you anymore. Allah (swt) was supporting us, making our business big because we were clean in our trust, as He said, ‘I am giving you a Trust,’and we accepted that on the Day of Promises and must return it clean.’”

In this story, as long as the Trust was honored the ants took spilled wheat from from outside and placed it inside the warehouse, but when the Trust was broken they took from inside to outside.

He said, "What are you doing wrong?"

The other partner said, "No my brother, I am not doing anything wrong!"

He said, "There must be something wrong, recall what you did."

When you trust someone and they betray you, you cannot trust them another time as Prophet (s) said:

لا يلدغ المؤمن من جحر واحد مرتين

The Believer is not stung from one hole twice. (Bukhari)

If an animal stings you once, you close the hole, you won’t be stung again.

Grandshaykh (q) continues, then the other partner remembered, “I stole one thing: when someone gave us a gift of eggs or fruit, etc., I divided half to you and half to me, but I chose the biggest ones for me.”

He said, “Finished! You betrayed the Trust and I cannot continue with you any longer.”

They split, ended the partnership, but learned this lesson, which is also an important lesson for us all: if you betray the Trust for the blink of an eye, we are in a big problem.

The Prophet (s) often made the du`a:

اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَكِلْنِي إِلَى نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ وَلَا أَقَلَّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ

O Allah! Don't leave me to my ego for the blink of an eye or less.

For a blink of an eye, and that is the Prophet (s), the Seal of Messengers, the one who went to Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa, the one whom Allah perfected, the one to whom Allah granted everything, the one whom Allah dressed with His Mercy, the one whom Allah trusted with the Message, the one to whom He gave Holy Qur'an and the Ummah!

You were the best of Nations evolved from Mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong and believing in Allah. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:110)

We all promised Allah that we will return our Amaanat as clean as when He granted it! Allah trusted His Prophet (s) in all things and Prophet (s) took the Amaanat and said he will deliver it as clean as it was. That is why Allah (swt) said in Holy Qur'an:

نَّا عَرَضْنَا الْأَمَانَةَ عَلَى السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالْجِبَالِ فَأَبَيْنَ أَن يَحْمِلْنَهَا وَأَشْفَقْنَ مِنْهَا وَحَمَلَهَا الْإِنسَانُ

إِنَّهُ كَانَ ظَلُومًا جَهُولًا

Indeed, We offered the Trust to the Heavens and the Earth and the Mountains, but they refused to undertake it, being afraid, but Man undertook it! He proved to be a tyrant and a fool. (Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:72)

“We offered to Heavens and Earth the Trust,” and they said, "No", not "no" rejecting; out of adab no one can say "no" to Allah (swt), but they said, “We are weak.” But when He offered it to human beings they were proud and accepted it, and Allah described them as “ignorant oppressors to themselves” when they betrayed the Trust. So when Allah called His servant, Sayyidina Muhammad, `alayhi afdal as-salaatu wa ’s-salaam, to Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa in the Divine Presence, He said to the Prophet (s):

“Because of My love for you, I created an Ummah that I forgave even before I sent them to dunya, so how can I punish anyone who says, ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah’? No, I will rejuvenate their Trust and make it as clean as it was before they betrayed it.”

Grandshaykh (q) said that Allah offered the Trust to the Prophet (s), the Ummah. “I am honoring them and dressing them will all kinds of mercy and Noor. Do you accept?” With the secret of ‘Uloom al-Awwaleen wa ‘l-Akhireen, the Prophet (s) saw them clean, holding all their obligations, not missing anything that was ordered, and he was so happy that he held that Ummah on his chest and said, “Yaa Rabb, I accept!” That is why Allah (swt) revealed:

أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ وَوَضَعْنَا عَنكَ وِزْرَكَ

Have We not expanded for you your breast? And We removed from you your burden.

(Surat ash-Sharh, 94:1-2)

“Did We not expand your chest for you to be happy?”

“Yes my Lord! You expanded my chest to be happy!”

“And we took all your wizr away.”

Whose wizr, burden (of sins)? The Prophet (s) does not sin, he is ma`soom, infallible. “We took your sins,” means sins of the Ummah. “We gave you a good, trustworthy Ummah.” So when the Prophet (s) saw the Ummah so clean, he said, “Yaa Rabb, I am happy.” Awliyaullah say when that happened, Allah (swt) dressed them with what they are going to do in dunya and when the Prophet (s) saw that, how everyone sins, their zhulm, oppressing others, backbiting, making fitna, spreading bloodshed, the Prophet (s) was so sad, because how will he return the Trust clean?

He (s) said, “Yaa Rabbee, you gave me a clean Ummah, but after I accepted them I saw they are not clean.” Allah (swt) said, “Yaa Muhammad! I am sending you to them.”

I have been sent to perfect the best of conduct (your behavior and character). (Bazzaar)

“I have been sent to perfect your manners and characters, to restore back and rejuvenate back your Trust to be a good person.” So intercession is to bring back their Trust, that means rejuvenating them from their sins to bring the Trust back to make the Ummah, back clean. So we have to give back the Trust back clean as it was and even we have to struggle, even it has some places that are not clean, inshaa-Allah with intercession of the Prophet (s) Allah will accept. For example, you have prayer carpet and there is a small spot which is not clean, you have to clean it of any najaasa, or you cannot pray it has impurity. So to clean it, you must clean as much as you can. If you don't clean it you cannot pray. So how are you praying when your heart is not pure? There is impurity in our hearts. Can someone say, “There is no impurities in our hearts?” Everyone has something that is wrong in him. So that is what we have to struggle with.

They asked the Prophet (s) maa huwa afdal al-jihad, “What is the best of jihad?” He said, “Afdal al-jihad kalimatu haqqin `inda sultaanin jaa'ir, a word of truth in face of a tyrant that wants to make bloodshed.” Afdal al-jihadu kalimatu haqq. Who is the tyrant other than yourself? We are tyrants to ourselves. So the best of jihad is not to go and fight with machine guns but to go and fight your ego and bad desires. When you make du`a Allah (swt) with one du`a can fulfill everything for you. Why is Allah (swt) not fulfilling what we ask? It must be that our Trust is not clean to say the word of truth. Today they say, “Sit in circle and do group talking, therapy.” What is that group therapy? To speak something in your life. We need a group therapy! These circles are group therapy, one speaks and the others listen. Not the other way where everyone speaks together like these group therapies which are like Turkish bath, everyone wants to speak and there is no control. So one speaks and the others listen. Anyone can speak by turn, tomorrow he can speak, today it is my turn, it is free. To say the truth to yourself is important.

To remember Allah (contemplate or meditate) for one hour is better than seventy years of worship.

To meditate and contemplate for one hour, you will be rewarded as if you have worshipped seventy years, and in another Hadith it says the reward of one year. When you contemplate on what is wrong and audit yourself, but are we auditing ourselves?

Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, said that Sayyidina Jalaluddin Rumi (q) was walking with all his mureeds in an alley, then he stopped at a tree and said, “That tree has fruit let us sit and eat.” It was a tree on the street not belonging to anyone and he sat with his mureeds around him eating the delicious fruit of that tree. I wish I was there! Do you wish you were there? Of course. The Sahaabah were very happy to be in the presence of their prophet, Sayyidina Muhammad (s), and the mureeds of Sayyidina Jalaluddin Rumi were happy to sit around him in a circle like the Sahaabah sat around Prophet (s). Awliyaullah are around us until the Day of Judgement and also can take us to a tree that has fruit and let you sit in a circle around it and eat from it.

So he said to them, “The human being is like a tree, it can give nicely or it can give poison to others.” If the fruit is poisonous, if you eat from it you might get allergies. When anyone sits in the circle of an association, they must declare to themselves, “This meeting is the last association in which I will sit with my brothers/sisters as I expect my death.” To sit with your shaykh, guide or speaker in a circle represents dhikrullah. So you have to tell your ego this is the last association for your self, like someone who has cancer and the doctor says that you have two months to live. What will you be worrying about? You will count every moment in those two months to purify yourself, is that correct? [Yes.] You try to sort the fifty or sixty or seventy or hundred years that you have lived, and solve all your problems in these two months or three and Allah (swt) knows best how long that is. You want to solve problems and now you are admitting you did something wrong and you want to clean your Trust.

Grandshaykh said, “You must assume this is the last association in your life and the last prayer and the last dhikr and the last presence and the last minutes that you are able to get rid of your Satanic life. So you will put them altogether in these two months and you will try to clean them, and for sure it is impossible, you cannot clean them, but if you struggle and say, ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah’ you go to Paradise!”

Whoever says “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah” enters Paradise.

By saying, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah,” you are declaring that you have made some mistakes and are clearing and cleaning yourself, and that is key to Paradise. if that is key to Paradise why are we not doing it now instead of waiting to the end. We are asking Allah (swt) to forgive us and let our tongue to say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah.” So let our tongue to say, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah.”

That is why it is very important to give talqeen in Islam, to stand by the edge of a grave and the mureeds or shaykh or imam remind the deceased because he can hear them, to say, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah!” and “Amantu billahi wa malaa’ikatihi wa kutubihi wa rusulihi wa bi ’l-yawmi ‘l-aahkiri wa bi ‘l-qadiri khayrihi wa sharrihi min Allahi ta`ala.” Also to observe the Hadith:

اقرأوا على موتاكم يس

Recite Yaa-Seen on your deceased. (Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah)

Even Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya (student of Ibn Taymiyya, who said you cannot remind the deceased what to say) accepted that Hadith because Prophet (s) said, “Iqraa Yaaseen `alaa mawtaakum.” So recite Surat Yaaseen on the deceased person and by this you are entering the Trust of Prophet (s), because “Yaaseen” is Prophet (s) and Allah gave the Trust of every human being and his Ummah to the Prophet, he is carrying them. So by reciting Surah Yaaseen you are reminding the deceased that we are coming to the Prophet (s) for our Trust to be cleaned by him.

Run to Allah (from all that is false and evil)! (Surat adh-Dhaariyaat, 51:50)

At that time, run to Allah through the door of Prophet (s) for him to make us clean! So this Ramadan make your Trust as clean as possible and inshaa-Allah Allah will forgive us and change our fasting from imitational fasting to real fasting. We can fast day and night with no rewards if we are doing all kinds of sins, especially backbiting as that is worst sin you can do in your life, along with spreading false rumors. May Allah prevent us from falling into that category of backbiting, to be always clean as it should be, and we ask His forgiveness.

Wa min Allahi ‘t-tawfeeq bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati ‘l-Fatihah.
