Do Not Turn Your Homes into Graveyards

The Holy Qur’an Will Interceded for You (Series)

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

4 April 2014 Burton, Michigan

Jumu`ah Khutbah at As-Siddiq Mosque

Yaa ayyuha 'Lladheena aamanoo ittaqullah wa koonu ma` as-saadiqeen.

O you who believe! Fear Allah and be with those who are trustworthy (in word and deed).

(Surat at-Tawbah, 9:119)

O Muslims, brothers and sisters. Alhamdulillah that He created us Muslims, that we came completely dressed with Islam because we say “laa ilaaha illa-Llah,” and the Prophet (s) said:

من قال لا اله الا الله دخل الجنة

Man qaala laa ilaaha illa-Llah dakhal al-jannah.

Whoever says ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ enters Paradise.

We ask Allah to keep us saying “laa ilaaha illa-Llah,” not to freeze our tongue on our death, not to freeze our tongue in our graves, not to freeze our tongue in the Day of Judgment!

Wa innaka la-`alaa khuluqin `azheem.

You are of the most exalted character. (Surat al-Qalam, 68:4)

Satan is alway there and don't think he is not affecting you. The biggest Shaytan in there in our home, that screen, the screen of the television. Too much things comes from there and the Prophet (s) knows that in every home there is Shaytan, and ‘every home’ means every person. In every heart there is a place for Shaytan to enter and so the Prophet (s) said to beware:

لاَ تَجْعَلُوا بُيُوتَكُمْ مَقَابِرَ

Laa taj`alu buyootakum maqaabir.

Do not turn your houses into graves. (Narrated by Abu Hurayrah; Tirmidhi)

“Don't make your homes graveyards for yourself.” When you go to a cemetery Shaytan stays there, many jinn stay there. That is why it is not recommended to go to the cemetery after dark, but up to Maghrib it is okay. The Prophet (s) said:

وَإِنَّ الْبَيْتَ الَّذِي تُقْرَأُ فِيهِ الْبَقَرَةُ لاَ يَدْخُلُهُ الشَّيْطَانُ

Ash-Shaytan yanfiru min albayti ’llatee tuqraau feehaa surat al-baqara.

Indeed Shaytan does not enter the house in which Surat al-Baqarah is recited.

(Narrated by Abu Hurayrah; Tirmidhi)

When you come home and find that your wife has a problem or your children have a problem, immediately go take a shower or wudu and pray two raka`ats and then recite Surat al-Baqara. Immediately Shaytan will run away! We go to the doctor and say, “My wife is sick,” or, “My husband is sick,” and sometimes they say you are schizophrenic or bi-polar, and what did the Prophet (s) say? Read Surat al-Baqara. That is the importance of Holy Qur'an in our homes. Always have Holy Qur'an in your homes, even if you only read one page, but read the one page. We are continuing the topic of the importance of reading Holy Qur'an.

The Prophet (s) used to warn Sahaabah (r) about the Anti-Messiah, ad-Dajjal. It is mentioned in many ahadith that from Signs of Last Days is the appearance of Massih ad-Dajjal. In their time, Sahaabah (r) used to look behind the palm trees expecting Dajjal, and the Prophet (s) did not mention a time; the Prophet (s) mentioned that the anti-Messiah will come and that Jesus would kill him. Yes, he is coming, but that also is to tell you about everything in your life, to bei careful of everything evil.

To get rid of evil from your home, what you have to do? The Prophet (s) said:

مَنْ حَفِظَ عَشْرَ آيَاتٍ مِنْ أَوَّلِ سُورَةِ الْكَهْفِ عُصِمَ مِنَ الدَّجَّالِ

Man hafizha awwala `ashara ayaatin min surat al-kahf `usima min ad-dajjal.

If anyone learns by heart the first ten verses of Surat al-Kahf, he will be protected from the Dajjal.

(Narrated by Abu Darda`; Muslim)

“Whoever memorizes the first ten verses of Surat al-Kahf will not only be protected by Allah from Dajjal, he will `usima minhu, be protected and Dajjal will have no power on him, or his house will be protected.” And in another riwaya:

من حفظ عشر آيات من أول سورة الكهف، عصم من الدجال‏"‏ وفي رواية‏:‏ ‏"‏من آخر سورة الكهف

Man hafizha akhira `ashara ayaatin min surat al-kahf `usima min ad-dajjal.

(Whoever memorizes) the last ten ayaat of Surat Al-Kahf, he will be protected from (the trial of) ad-Dajjal (Antichrist). (Narrated by Abu Darda`; Muslim)

“Whoever memorizes the last ten verses of Surat al-Kahf will be protected from Dajjal and saved from that day.” So what do we want more than that? Surat al-Baqara or the first or last ten verses from Surat al-Kahf that will protect us from Shaytan and protect us from Massih ad-Dajjal!

O Muslims! Really, if you go deep in to your religion you will realize we can never give thanks to Allah as it should be, and even if you recite as much salawaat on the Prophet (s) you will never give as much as should be. And that is why the Prophet (s) gave us first Surat al-Baqara, and then he said first/last ten verses of Surat al-Kahf, because inna ma` al-`usri yusraa, “Verily with difficulty there is ease (94:6),” and make things easy and don't make them difficult.

The Prophet (s) said, yassiroo wa laa tu`assiroo, “Make things easy and don’t make them difficult.”

One day the Prophet (s) was so happy, as reported by Sayyidina `Umar (r) (the Prophet [s] wanted to give his ummah something so sweet. All his life he was worried, not sleeping, so concerned at night until Sayyida `Ayesha said, “O Prophet of Allah! Why are you praying and praying so much, until your feet are swollen?)

And the Prophet (s) said, “This is the best day on Earth, this is the best, happiest news that I heard!” And he said, laqad unzila `alayya hadhihi 'l-layla afdal ma tala`t `alahyi ’sh-shams. “This night a verse was revealed that is better than whatever the sun rises upon.”

Inna fatahnaa laka fathan mubeena.

Verily, We have granted you (O Muhammad!) a manifest victory/opening. (Surat al-Fath, 48:1)

“We have opened for you a clear opening,” and that is an opening until the Day of Judgment.

There was a man reciting Surat al-Kahf by the trees, sitting by himself. He had tied his horse very tightly with two ropes because it was a very wild horse and he would run away, and a cloud came over him and approached him, and it came over the area, over the horse. The horse began to push in order to run away and he was wild, very strong, but he was unable to move from that situation. As the cloud was coming over he was pushing to run away and in the morning that man came to the Prophet (s) and mentioned that to him. The Prophet (s) said to him, tilka as-sakeenatu tanazalat bi’l-Qur'an, “That was the sakeena, the tranquility, peacefulness that comes down with the Holy Qur'an, and the horse was afraid from that tranquility that was coming.” Because sometimes, like when you wake up you have goosebumps that make you shake either due to something good or something bad, so that rahmatullah was making that horse shake, so whatever came also came over the horse and over the man.

I will end with this hadith:

من القرآن سورة ثلاثون آية شفعت لرجل حتى غفرت له ،وهي‏:‏ تبارك الذي بيده الملك

Min al-qur'anu suratun thalaathoon ayati shufi`at li rajulin hatta ghufirat lahu. wa hiya tabaarak alladhee bi-yadihi’l-mulk.

There is a Surah in the Qur'an which contains thirty ayaat which kept interceding for a man until his sins were forgiven. This surah is “Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the Dominion.”

(Narrated Abu Hurayrah; Tirmidhi)

“There is a surah in the Holy Qur'an with thirty verses; that surah interceded for a person until that person was forgiven.” That surah kept asking and asking until that person was forgiven. What is that surah? Surat al-Mulk, and many of you know it.
