Baya` Is to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

14 May 2012 Bandung, Indonesia

Suhbah at Pesentran al-Falah

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani r-Raheem.

We are very happy today that we have been invited by Shaykh Shahid, may Allah bless him, and it is an honor for us to be here. I asked for only one qasida from Mawlana Shaykh Shahid in order to decorate this majlis. It is said:

زينوا مجالسكم بالصلاة على النبي صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم

zayyinoo majaalisakum bi ’s-salaat `ala an-Nabi (s).

Decorate your associations with Salaat upon the Prophet (s). (an-Namiri)

These meetings are decorated by Salaat an-Nabi, without which the `amal will not be raised to Allah (swt). When you start and end your majlis or speech with salawaat, your du`a, salaat, and `amal will be raised to heavens; otherwise, it will stay with you in this dunya.

Inshaa-Allah if there is time we will continue with tawsiyya later, because Mawlana Shaykh Shahid asked me to do the Dhikr al-Khwajagan first.

Now I would like to introduce to you someone who has been following me for one week, he is attracted to the love of Allah (swt) and Prophet (s). He is here, Chris, stand up. He is the son of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, H.E. Sharif Cicip Sutardjo, and he has been following us from place to place. I asked him, “What do you want to do?”

He said, “Whatever.”

I asked him, “Do you know how to clean?”

He said, “Yes.”

So I said, “You clean the restrooms.”

He said, "Okay, no problem.” Look at his humbleness!

(Khatm)

O Allah! Share with us the (rewards and blessings of) Hajj of those who are making Hajj and those making `umra and share with us the worship of the Prophet (s) and shower us with the greatest Name of Allah (swt). And the angels made sajda to Sayyidina Adam (a) due to the light of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) shining in his forehead. We have placed ourselves and all those related to us, and all these people who are present, and those doing dhikr in the safekeeping of our Prophet (s), and we expect to find all this in the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) on Judgment Day, and that he will intercede for us, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

(Baya`)

This baya` is for Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) and from him to the Prophet (s). Whoever has attributed the baya` to himself, from those who represent Mawlana Shaykh, are mentally and spiritually sick. It is not possible to give baya` to someone with a deficient mind, who is mentally disabled, like some representative who thinks he is collecting people and they attribute the baya` to him. That one is also making everyone who is taking baya` mentally sick. It is not permitted for anyone to attribute the baya` to himself and say, “I have a group of ten, twenty, one-hundred or one-thousand.” No, the example is what Allah (swt) said in His Noble Qu’ran:

Inna alladheena yuba`yoonaka innamaa yuba`yoon Allah, yadullaahi fawqa aydeehim, faman nakatha fa-innama yankuthu `alaa nafsih wa man awfaa bima `ahad `alayhullaaha fa-sayu’teehi ajran `adheema.

Verily, those who swear allegiance to you (Muhammad) swear allegiance only to Allah. The Hand of Allah is above their hands, so whoever breaks his oath does so only to his soul's injury, while whoever keeps his covenant with Allah, on him will He bestow immense reward. (al-Fath, 48:10)

Those who are taking your hand are in fact giving baya` to Allah (swt). So the baya` here is attributed to Allah Himself, but that does not mean we don’t pledge baya` to the Prophet (s); we run to him and we even say, “We ransom our father and mother for you!” But those mureeds who are making other mureeds to do baya` to themselves are falling completely into the will of Shaytan. I spent my life with Grandshaykh `AbdAllah al-Fa'iz ad-Daghestani (q), and never saw that he gave baya` to anyone. Rather, he refused and said, "No, to give baya` has conditions: first you have to be `alim in fiqh, tafseer, hadith, and then you have to be trained in everything.”

But now, the ones on the streets are giving baya` to each other. You ask people, “From whom did you take baya`?” They say, “From Shaykh Abdul Hafizh,” or “Abdu ’n-Noor,” “from this one or that one.” No! That baya` is not to you, but it is to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q)! It is like the bus (taking you to your destination); you get them into the bus and then it is no longer your responsibility.

You must be happy here, those who took baya` just now, that baya` went to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and to the Prophet (s) and now your baya` is in the hands of the Prophet (s)! Anyone who takes baya` from Shaykh Shahid is also taking baya` from Shaykh Nazim, which goes through the Prophet (s) as he is one of the awliyaullah in this area. He is hidden, his power cannot be seen, but he has responsibility over this whole area which is full of mu’min jinn. When he prays Fajr, all the mu’min jinn of this area pray behind him and there are very few people whom you will find have power like that.

Wa `alaykum salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh.
